Amaysim $44.90 Starter Packs with 300 International Min and 5GB Data $10 (Save $34.90) @ Woolworths

880

Please be aware that as per this comment, packs MAY need to be activated before 29/3/2016

Time to stock on on cheap starter packs for the next 12 months or so. Seems woollies is clearing these for the new 28 day amaysim plans

These technically should activate on the new plans so you should get the extra data allowance

  • If you buy 12 packs that will last for whole year?

And will it allow you to transfer number again and again?

    • if you port in and out.

So technically every port will cost you a $2 sim

      • How does it come out to $2?
EDIT: Is it by getting the $1 Vodafone SIMs?

      • Sorry for piggybacking on the top comment but:
You must activate the SIMs before the 29/03.

        See my comment
Support: you had asked: So, I can activate the SIM at the end of April if I need to? My response was: No the sim does need to be activated before the expiry of the promotion. 29/03

Vodafone prepaid starter kit will be on sale this week, so you could port between providers every month.

      • +3

Yes, Buy 6 of Vodafone starter kits(available till tomorrow- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/238826) and 6 of Amaysim's(Starting wednesday). Together will last up to an Year.

I am sure Vodafone doesn't have any expiry date for activation

        • +3

Nah… Given both Amaysim and Vodafone have 28 day plans, you'd need 6 of one and 7 of the other. Ultimately, you'd need 13 packs to cover one year.

And Coles is also jumping on the bandwagon. They've got $30 Vodafone starter kits for $10 starting this week.

        • No rush. Coles has voda starter kits $10 from Wednesday

        • Noticed that the Coles catalogue has "Offer available to customers who activate or recharge on a $30 or above Vodafone Combo Starter Pack or recharge before 31.05.16. (inclusive)" so maybe they do have expiry dates. I wonder if this week's (ending tomorrow) Vodafone Woolworths deal has something similar.

        • +1

@titus: i bought one this week and confirmed with CC that they do not have any expiry dates

        • that's what i did had voda-optus sims…i might give amaysim a try..Amaysim on Voda or Optus network? if it on same network porting with take longer? since Voda have no expire data going to save it.

amaysim starter pack have expire date?

        • @apokalypsez: i don't think even amaysim starter packs have an expiry

        • @Skimpywallet: sold out here, of course.

        • @spk: no mention on the packs of any expiry date. But best to use them within 12 months

    • +1

Given Amaysim now have 28 day plans, you'd need 13 packs to cover one year.

      • Given Amaysim now have 28 day plans, you'd need 13 packs to cover one year.

not really. you may lose a few days every time you port out and in. you may forget to port. other commitments like family or work may also delay a port. a port may not even work at the time and you may have to contact cs.

        • That's true, but that essentially means you are okay with not able to make calls for around 28 days in a year.

        • I derived 13 packs per calendar year based on the fact that the user's phone would be useable for 365 days. I didn't consider days without service.

        • I can port-out-port-in to amaysim in ~5mins.

The only time it's failed is, when I make a typo in the date of birth … but CS can sort it out in a few mins. Using the online chat is typically quicker than phoning.

        • @sp00ker: porting out to who?

        • +1

          @neil aus:

Telstra/Vodafone/Optus (haven't tried any MVNOs) … they say it takes a few hours/day … but it's never taken me more than a few mins.

  • +4

Is there any expiry on the pack for activation ?

    • +1

      No.

  • Oh nice these are nano sims as well

    • +5

Most new starter packs are triple SIM, meaning they have nano, micro and full SIM cards in the one pack. Great for crapple devices.

      • Yeah not the old Optus starter packs I bought. Have to do a sim swap everytime. So annoying

        • +2

Yep, the packs with the sharp corners wouldn't have 3 in one. Keep an eye out for the Optus packs with rounded corners, they've got all SIMs in the same pack.

        • @KaptnKaos:

          Thanks thats good to know

  • Which woolworths? national wide?

    • +1

      yes nationwide.

      • thx

    • +7

      Which Woolworths?

      Your closest one.

    • +1

It will be interesting to see which stores have stock

  • I am a Newbie to the world of pre-paid. Do you experience much downtime when jumping from one carrier to another each month?

    • +1

if you use telstra during the start of the week, its almost instant

    • If you port during the porting hours, and you do not port within providers of the same operator, your downtime per port should be no more than 1 hour if that.

      • Do you have to call anyone to port ?

        • +3

          No.

Suppose you are porting from carrier A to carrier B, so your number is presently with carrier A.

Simply grab a starter pack from carrier B, go to carrier B's website, enter your phone number when prompted and you will then be told to select what your existing carrier is. At this point, enter or select carrier A.

Wait 1 hour or so (if porting within porting hours) and you will lose your reception on your present SIM.

Insert SIM from carrier B. Done.

        • @KaptnKaos: I'm trying to figure out how I can use these but keep my number

Is it possible to port out from amaysim and back in one day, so you can keep using these packs? Ie have a Telstra or similar prepaid sim on standby, port out, activate new amaysim sim and port back?

What would happen to the telstra sim when the number is ported away from it?

        • +3

          @heineken016:

One day? Time your ports within porting hours and it'll take you 2 hours tops.

Once you leave amaysim and go to Failstra, your old amaysim SIM will not work anymore.

Then, once you leave Failstra and go back to amaysim, you must use a new amaysim SIM. Your Failstra and old amaysim SIM cards can be cut up and thrown away, only when your new amaysim SIM is confirmed to be working properly.

        • @KaptnKaos: your the best

        • @tomleonhart:

          Thanks, happy to help.

          @heineken016:

He has already answered how to port. To port back just repeat the process

The Telstra sim will self destruct in five … four … three … two … one … POW!!!!

          @4agte:

The Telstra sim mobile network will self destruct in five … four … three … two … one … POW!!!!

          FTFY.

        • @KaptnKaos: you're not on BF4 by any chance are you?

        • @KaptnKaos: Ok, cheers mate.

So legitimate plan meeting the various tips here, would be buy this and $2 telstra sims, port to telstra sim and back.

$12 a month for the things included in this plan…. Right?

        • @tomleonhart:

Haha sorry, I'm far from a gamer. That needs spare time which I don't get much of…

        • +2

          @heineken016:

Correct, or you could purchase Vodafone and Amaysim starter packs, thus saving you $2 per month for essentially nothing.

But yes, Vodafone and Amaysim both have different offerings so that might make one provider more favourable over the other.

        • @KaptnKaos: Anyone know if the 5c Kogan mobile sims (Vodafone network) would be good for this?

        • +1

          @stickyfingers:

Yes, they should be fine for this. Ports within the Vodafone network haven't been identified as problematic.

        • @KaptnKaos: Thanks! Is there any problem/risk with porting twice in a day? For example from Amaysim to Kogan to Amaysim?

        • +1

          @stickyfingers:

There's no problem there. This entire process could be done within 2 hours or less, if the ports are done within the standard porting hours.

      • Hi, do you know roughly how long it might be if it's porting within providers of the same operator? I am thinking between Optus prepaid and Amaysim prepaid.

        • +4

Please, please don't do that. Anecdotal comments have noted a downtime of days, requiring many emails and calls to rectify.

This is easily avoided. Port to a different carrier.

        • I ported from amaysim to optus, took 3 days to complete (and a 2 phone calls to Optus). Never again.

        • @strawberrybug:
@smiley-k same here. Virgin to Amaysim took 3 working days, Friday to Tue Lost service for a few hours because you just dont know when they switch.

        • @Skimpywallet: Thank you! You guys saved me from a grave mistake.

    • Thanks guys.

    • If you port to voda it takes somewhere around 1-3 hours (if done during week) —- did this myself a few times.

      • Thanks smurfinaus.

    • Just portrd from aldi to amaysim last werk within 3hours i could use my phone

  • I thought you had to activate Amaysim packs within a certain number of days after purchase?

    • Yes can someone confirm this. I've been burnt with cheap Groupon deals before that need to be activated within a week.

    • That wouldn't be good. Anyone confirm?

    • +1

There's no mention of an expiry date anywhere on their starter packs, nor on the receipts that confirm their activation.

Try discussing this with their customer service. Failing that, TIO it.

    • +2

your referring to the ones you buy online from amaysim

these are different, they are prepaid kits

  • When does t start?

    • +1

      wednesday

    • +16

      T starts after S, I believe.

      • +1

        Ok we believe you.

  • Two things

Woolies clearing all these.. ie once they are out at a store, thats it? (if a store had little to none etc…)

Do amaysim packs have an expiry date?.

    • +1

      Yes.

      No.

      • thanks

think i better look around the local Woolies tomorrow to see who has stock and try to get them early Wed morning when they open lol

  • So they are ripping us off by going 28 days? Is this for all amaysim plans?

    • It depends. They now include extra data but if you don't care about it then yes it's worse value for you.

    • Only for the "unlimited" plans. The add-on data packs still last 30 days.

      • Nek minnit…

    • Yes, this was a big reason why I just jumped ship. I have been a loyal Amaysim customer for the past few years and now this dick move to squeeze an extra month out of us every a year.

      Gone on to greener pastures…

it's deals like these that make ozb amazing

  • my parents will coming over in for a week in september… should i get these for them or are there better options?

    • Grab these and hang onto them till September.

      • thats what i was thinking… but they really dont need much data really just for whatapp and stuff… you reckon theres none starter packs priced at like 5 bucks or so?

        • You'd be extremely lucky to find a starter pack of equivalent value for $5. They do exist, but I wouldn't be counting on any $5 starter packs popping up any time soon. They're generally at that price when it's gravely necessary ie. Close to expiry date.

        • Pick between the Vodafone or the Amaysim starter pack for $10 each. $5 is very rare and often is with Telstra, which has expiry dates.

        • +1

Coles mobile this Wednesday has $5 sim with $10 value. It will give u unlimited calls, limited data for 10 days. Usual price is $10 for 10 days unlimited calls.

        • @Skimpywallet: $5 for 800MB of Optus is not a bargain.

        • +1

          @gikku:
Not a bargain for regular users. But canadianbeaver wanted only 1 week of use for holiday visitors ($5). As opposed to $10 for a month but using for 1 week only. So canadianbeaver saved $5 actually.

  • Hmm…so it's not a pre-paid sim + recharge? cos if it's a recharge, then no need to port out and in and out and in…lol

    • It's most definitely not a recharge. It's a prepaid SIM only.

  • +1

There's been a lot of discussion of porting in and out, but what if you have a dual-sim phone? Can you just whack this in and go? I don't care about the mobile number, just the data, so do I need to bother with porting?

    • Nope - just activate and use.

There's been better data-only deals around though - normally when telstra prepaid starters go on sale …

    • Yes

    • Don't care about the number? Only using it for data?

Don't bother about porting - fire away!

  • Can you just buy 12/13 of these and activate one per month. Once month is over, activate new starter pack?

Is there a limit on how many you can activate as you need to put in your license/ passport no.

    • Yes

    • There is no limit per person.

Question is - do you want to retain your number?

      • Yes: You must port out of Amaysim to another provider, then port back into Amaysim again
      • No: You can activate each starter pack independently, but keep in mind that each pack will have a different phone number associated with it.
  • So if I buy 12 of these can I activate one every month in order to get away with cheap credit?

    • Yes

    • Given both Amaysim and Vodafone have 28 day plans, you'd need 6 of one and 7 of the other. Ultimately, you'd need 13 packs to cover one year.

      • Cheers mate will buy at least 13 I'm sick of paying $40 a month honestly trying to squeeze as much as I can out of my budget right now. My budget being minimal spending where possible lol.
