Hi ozbargain family,

I just discovered this awesome freebie and wanted to share with everyone. I have successfully activated on my iPhone and also confirmed working from my friend who just traveled to USA.

No credit card needed. Current info indicates it is free forever. But they can always change the terms and conditions later.

Here are the steps on iPhone (Android works as well but I don't have android phone hence cannot share the steps)

  1. change the APP store to USA
  2. Install Helium Mobile APP
  3. Current registration is by invitation only hence you need to enter the invitation code from Google search.
  4. The APP requires turning on location service and changing to "Always". (You can turn off after registration)
  5. Choose the plan "Zero" including 3GB data, 100min call, 300 text per month and an USA number
  6. Create your account.
  7. Enter a USA address, you can pick a random address from google map.
  8. Verify you ID from "Persona". The ID address needs to be your random USA address above.
    ChatGPT advises: "Yes, Persona ID verification is generally considered safe. Persona is a well-known identity verification service used by companies to securely verify user identities while protecting sensitive data. "
  9. ID address is the USA address, but country needs to be Australia and you can chose National ID and upload your Drivers License. Follow the prompt to complete ID check. The whole process takes 1 min and there is no credit inquiry on my file.
  10. Install eSim, Enable data roaming and wifi calling.
  11. there is no signal as I have not purchased the roaming package, but wifi calling is working. And I have got a message from them as well.
  12. Travel to USA and enjoy.

The only catch I see is the location service, but can be easily turned off after registration. ID check is performed by Persona who does background checks for many multinational companies.

      as long as your carrier support over wifi calling then no problem at all. i got an us mobile from T-mobile, works perfectly and no issue at all.

    I have it - however no matter how I try - I cannot pass the Persona checks - I have tried with my driver licence and Passport - does not work.

      Probably contact support? My other friend had the same thing and he pinged the support to pass the ID test. Not sure why.

    Was able to text to the new number and text to Aussie number from the new number. However eSIM was stuck in activating and then failed. Not sure if it is because of no signal. Anyone else has the same issue?

    I created an account on my iPhone 10 but just realised it doesn't support eSIM. I then tried adding the eSIM to my Android phone, which does support eSIM, by manually entering the activation code from my iPhone. However, it’s not working. I’m getting an error message: "The code isn't valid or has already been used. Contact your service provider for more information."

    Does anyone know what might be causing this?

      Each activation code can only be used once. your iphone most likely attempted to activate the esim. You gota contact support and they will send you a new code

        Thanks. I actually installed the app on my Android, logged on, and selected Magage SIM; followed the prompts. It installed a new eSim on the new device.

        Just download the apk file. Allow apks to be installed from unknown sources. Install downloaded helium mobile apk. That's about it.

      I think that's how they make money. you can use the number for subscription and 6 month later they will ask for a monthly fee.

      travel to usa at the end of each month can give u free 3+3 GB data. also for some one off subscription? register another whatsapp? it will be very useful if it is a truly free forever number otherwise it is a free travel sim.

      Try switching between National ID and DL in Persona - I think some state DLs are ok passing through as national ID, some won't

      Mine went through after few attempts as DL

          seems you have active subscriptions, then the only way is log out of your apple ID and register a new one. Select payment none and change location to USA.

          A VPN to the US would work (a new option "None" will appear as a payment method). Though I don't recommend switching your main Apple Account's location back and forth. Simply register a new US Apple Account and sign in to App Store

      Pretty sure you can only do it once a year. Easier to sideload it from apkpure - can install using MiXplorer instead of downloading apkpure's installer.

      While persona seems fairly secure, no company is immune to being hacked.

      Also, because of the Patriot Act, all other US intelligence agencies could access your details stored with Persona.

      It might be a bit of a stretch, but perhaps Musk & DOGE will therefore also have access to your data.

    Got a Welcome text, but couldn’t receive text and when tried calling got the message (both from USA number) : “The person you have dialed is not able to receive calls at this time”

    Not sure how others got it working.

      if you are using iphone, you need to turn on data roaming and wifi calling. you can see the wifi calling words beside the signal bar.

        Yes. I have both turned on and it gives me a US number, but “wifi calling” does not appear.
        Also when ImI sent txt from Australian mobile to supplied US number to test, someone answered.

          Wifi calling didn’t show on my phone, but it’s working. I’m still stuck on “activating” in settings, but I sent a text to the # and it was received. Perhaps we need to be connected to a base station in the US for activation to finish. My only concern is how long it will be stuck on “activation”. Hours? Days? Indefinitely? Could be something that drains some battery life. I can’t turn it off or delete the eSIM at the moment either.
