Hi ozbargain family,

I just discovered this awesome freebie and wanted to share with everyone. I have successfully activated on my iPhone and also confirmed working from my friend who just traveled to USA.

No credit card needed. Current info indicates it is free forever. But they can always change the terms and conditions later.

Here are the steps on iPhone (Android works as well but I don't have android phone hence cannot share the steps)

  1. change the APP store to USA
  2. Install Helium Mobile APP
  3. Current registration is by invitation only hence you need to enter the invitation code from Google search.
  4. The APP requires turning on location service and changing to "Always". (You can turn off after registration)
  5. Choose the plan "Zero" including 3GB data, 100min call, 300 text per month and an USA number
  6. Create your account.
  7. Enter a USA address, you can pick a random address from google map.
  8. Verify you ID from "Persona". The ID address needs to be your random USA address above.
    ChatGPT advises: "Yes, Persona ID verification is generally considered safe. Persona is a well-known identity verification service used by companies to securely verify user identities while protecting sensitive data. "
  9. ID address is the USA address, but country needs to be Australia and you can chose National ID and upload your Drivers License. Follow the prompt to complete ID check. The whole process takes 1 min and there is no credit inquiry on my file.
  10. Install eSim, Enable data roaming and wifi calling.
  11. there is no signal as I have not purchased the roaming package, but wifi calling is working. And I have got a message from them as well.
  12. Travel to USA and enjoy.

The only catch I see is the location service, but can be easily turned off after registration. ID check is performed by Persona who does background checks for many multinational companies.

    I successfully signed up for this but for some reason, my eSIM won't download properly to my SIM card. I've got a 9eSIM (physical eSIM) and I keep getting "Download Failed" when scanning the QR code. Anyone else here with a physical eSIM having issues?

      Yeah mine 1st said too many esims then when I deleted one and tried it said not enough space. Now it says esim has expired

      Same here. I also noticed the scam/spam calls started to rev up after the first 24-48 hours…

      So I'm now wondering if the scam/spam calls from US are actually a result of Helium selling out our info to advertisers…

      Either that, or:
      - got unlucky with a recycled number, or
      - there's just that many spam callers…but it's weird that the first 24-48 hours were quiet and then it ramped up a lot.

        Very likely a recycled number. I have had maybe 5 or 6 US travel sims with phone numbers and all got spam calls or wrong numbers (linked to a Target account, etc) very quickly.

        Our spam calls in Aus are pretty bad, but by the sounds of it they're off the charts in the US. So I'm honestly not that surprised.

    NSW DL could not work with Persona. I had to wait for the actual link to redo it with passport.

    Passport works with Persona- download Persona set up an account and link ID and selfie before proceeding with the check via Helium app.

    Anyone noticed that it the signal keeps disconnecting, only to reconnect with full bars?

    I am using Android and i dont have any reception on Helium. I turned on data roaming and wifi calling. Still cant get any text messages or any signals.

    I can pass the verification and when I get to the part to 'use eSim' it tells me that Sims are only available in countries that Helium Mobile supports. Anyone get this on Android?

      Yes I have the same error when trying to install the eSIM - "SIMs are only available in countries that helium mobile supports" on a Samsung/Android device

    It seems they don't accept Victorian driver licence for ID check. Has anyone successfully used Victoria diver licence to pass the Id check? Thanks.
