  • I have boost sim $300 expiring on 27 mar..how can i get this offer instead of annual recharge?

    • +3

      Port out & back.

      • +2

whats the best way to do this? Get $2 optus sim, port in and port to Boost next day?

        • Can these all be done online by myself, or do i need to chat with thier customer support?

          • +4

@John Doh: Do it all online yourself. Port out with a burner sim, port back in to Boost. No interaction with customer support necessary unless something goes wrong (which it hasn't the 2-3 times I've done it).

      • +9

It's a shame that people have to resort to this in order to access cheaper pricing rather than the provider giving cheaper pricing to loyal customers.

        • Loyal customers means nothing but new customer count even if you port back same day…strange but true!

          • @Smokey010: Not that strange when you consider that the objective is to keep growing their new customer base.

        • There no point in loyalty

    • No rush since 290GB on activation for new customers only, 240GB on next recharge. Activate by 7 July 2025, you can port out to another company then port in.

      • unless you don't want the cashback, otherwise you'll want to port back within 30 days.

  • great price. mine still valid still dec, so won't be able to claim cash back i guess

  • Data rollover on the long expiry ones? T&Cs i couldn't see it mentioned.

    • +2

      No it doesn't roll over.

Plus you cannot use this deal for recharge so you are always set up as new customer anyway.

    • +2

You have to port out and back in to take advantage of deals.

  • +15

Such a shame they removed the cheap plans. Have been looking at other telcos for some the old price we used to get boost sims (~180ish) but it sucks that none other have telstra coverage

    • +2

agree. i just ported out to Felix for a few months, trying to decide if i want to take this deal to Port back for telsta, or just switch to Vodafone $150 prepaid which seems mostly fine so far, keep my $12.50/month life.

      • @w3av3r did you port to esim with Felix ? how are you finding them on the $12.50 plan?
im looking at doing a heap of overseas travel in the next 12 months and I want to keep my phone number in AUS.
I been with Telstra for like 15 years but was thinking of porting to either this boost stuff or Felix on that small plan.
id want to recieve text messages to my Aus number while overseas but then have some data to use when returning to Aus between multiple trips.

(all my data for overseas trips would just be via sims for all the countries im going, so nothing to do with this)

        thanks :)

        • +1

no i don't have esim in my phone.

I've only been on for 2 days, but so far it has been good.
4g getting 20mbps in Melbourne cbd and 5g+ getting 120mbps+, getting 5g in the suburbs where i live.

got reception in a underground carpark where i normally don't get reception with boost/telstra. so that's cool.

Felix have that $20 365 day roaming which might be the cheapest way to do what you're talking about.
my wife has been with a Vodafone for a while and doesn't have many issues with roaming.

i don't know if this is still a thing, but make sure you have a phone with a lot of bands or the right bands for countries you're going to.

          • @w3av3r: thanks for the reply appreciate the feed back.

I have an iPhone 15PM so all good for staying connected over seas. I usually pick up esims from travelkon they have been super reliable for working consistently in like 40 countries I've done.

just looking for somewhere to park my AUS number for a year while I knock out another 30 countries.

            thanks again :)

    • As an existing Boost customer, you either sign up for a year at $300, which is $25/month, or pay by the month at $26/month…doesnt make any sense to me why they don't offer discounts to existing customers

      • +1

In Australia most essentials have monoploy or duopoly structure and has been for long time. Companies have zero incentive to keep customers loyal to their brand.

Telstra noticed mass migration of their customer base to Boost due to low prices and decided to do what they have been doing for a long time. Charge what they want not what they can as there is no competition.

        • Because people are usually lazy so they fleece those too slack to change provider, applies to insurance even more.

      • +1

The $26/month is actually $26 per 28 days, so essentially you have to pay an additional $26 per year. Sure it's not massive, but it irks me that telcos get away with this 28 day crap.

  • I’ve been with Vodafone for 13 years, currently paying $37 per month for sim and have two mobile phones and an NBN connection. For NBN, I’m paying $68 for a 50/20 plan. Would it be a good idea to cancel everything and switch to Boost, and find another NBN provider?

    • +3

I did that and haven’t looked back. I churn for nbn based on deals and prepaid for mobile. Quite a savings

    • If you are happy with Vodafone reception (obviously), shop for their prepaid (or even Kogan, Catch etc. whichever gives you the best deal). You don't necessarily need Boost.

And definitely find another NBN provider you will find cheaper option or faster speed for that price.

      • Catch

        FYI this is Optus.

        Vodafone MVNOs

        • +1

Yes I am aware of that. My point is if Vodafone was given good enough reception (yes they have upgraded recently by sharing with Optus but not for the past 13 years) then OP can pick any providers without paying the Telstra network premium.

    • +1

For NBN, you have many choices.. I am with Exetel and it's not bad value for money. I wouldn't say customer service is great but I have never had to call them. There could be an occasional drop-off of internet but usually it comes back within minutes. I have tried several other providers and most are in the same bucket in terms of quality and service so there's hardly any differentiator.

For mobile, if you have been paying $37/month per sim, it's high. Boost, Amaysim, Catch Connect, Coles Mobile, Woolworths Mobile, etc all have 365-days plans where you end up paying nearly half of that price. Also, no billing or renewal headache for a year once you activate it. No need of customer service ever either. I have been using 365-days plans for many years now and I believe that's the best product to be offered in telco sector, particularly at the prices that we get it here.

    • +2

If you are CBA customer and have access to Yello then I guess More Mobile and NBN would the best best with CBA discount .

  • Sorry we’re unable to process your order. Please try again later.

    • Just tried now also received that error

    • Try a different card. It didnt like my CBA one.

      • @Hellfire thanks tried a different card and it worked!

    • I can only get Boost prepaid SIMs with a prepaid MasterCard (Macquarie). My Macquarie Visa CC and ANZ Visa CC both fail.

  • Could I port to Telstra prepaid and then port back to Boost prepaid ? Would that work?

    • +1

Yes, it should do. In the past there was a bunch of issues doing ports between Telstra and Boost, but those all seem to have been sorted out.

      • Thank you SeaWolf au.

    • Yeah $2 prepaid sim will do.

  • +1

I am switching to More, check your CBA Yellow

    Almost half price 😁

    • Can only see a $10 off mobile plans for 12 months with More

      • This one is cheaper, isn't it?

        • By 75c yes (presuming lowest 5g tier)

For that extra 75c you get 0.84GB less

      • +1

Mine shows $15 off, comes to $9 a month for the 4G, 12GB a month plan, gonna switch to this :)

        • Same for me, if you select 5g, that's 17 a month

    • Full 4g and 5g networks?
I have the gig a day for a dollar a day deal, for the full network I think it's worth it.

      • Where? Dollar a day means 365$sssss

        It's either 4g or 5g with More

  • cheap but still have to deal with Telstra's rubbish customer service and incompetence, i made one change very small change and it screwed up my login completely had to wait 2 days for them to fix a stuff up they made….

sorry but telstra can say there network is the best but if most of there services are unusable or there customer service is useless when you have a problem then to me its the worst network in Australia.

    • They updated their network, but not their staff

  • Boost is expiring on 24/6. Will I still get 290GB data if I activate it around 27/6?

    • The website says 290GB before 7/7 but you won't get the cashback though that typically asks you to activate within 30 days so no point.

If it's expiring at that time good change you will pick up a deal EOFY.

      • Thanks. Makes sense. I will wait for some deal around that time then.

  • +2

got this one yesterday - Boost Mobile $300 Prepaid Sim Starter Pack with 290 GB Data for $235 - Delivered @ Cellpoint
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/896799

    • Same. I guess this is better if you activate and claim cashback.

  • Still waiting on Cashback from the previous deal.

    • +1

Are you referring to the Feb Boost offer? You commented on 21st Feb that you bought one. That's normal and you would usually wait about 3 months for the cashback to be paid. That seems to be the time frame for many retailers with cashback and would be the same with other cashback sites.

  • +1

    Cashback excludes eSIM

    • Get the physical sim then. It takes literally one min to switch to eSIM once the service is activated.

    • oh course it does, why would it be easy :)
my last SIM from them took about 10 days to arrive (WA)

      • I'm in metro Perth and the Boost 28-Day SIMs ordered in Feb and Mar this year arrived in about 1-2 business days. Last year a few SIMs took more than 2 weeks to arrive.

  • +9

I miss the $170 Boost sim I got last time :(

  • +2

So sick of Boost prices and data allowances having 25%+ swings every other day.
Can almost justify negging all their deals in knowing there'll be another variation of them within a few days.

  • Does anyone know if I can buy the esim on one phone, and activate it on another?

I'm moving from America to Australia and I don't want to change my iOS region. Unfortunately, Boost doesn't have an app in the American app store.

Most American phone companies let you just scan a QR code to get your ESIM running, no app needed. Does Boost work like that? I'm thinking I could install the app on my Australian work phone, generate the QR code on it, and then scan it with my personal phone.

    • +1

Id anticipate this would work with no issues.
The only thing you would somehow want to confirm is how they generate the QR code for the esim?

I have purchased many travel esims with no issue adding to my phone before heading to countries.
So I think you will be fine!

the other option would be could you buy this physical SIM card that is on sale on this post, then activate the physical sim on say your Australian phone then you could contact boost to change physical sim to esim service, and inter get then to add that esim device to your American phone?

a few hoops to jump through if you want the discounts.

if you want a cheap service try FELIX website they got cheap discount plans at the moment if you aren't after much data/crazy speeds. (I haven't used this service so not sure how reliable it is)

(Boost also uses the Telstra network which is arguable Australia's best network with the most coverage)

      hope any of this helps.

      • +1

        Great idea. Thanks!

      • I don’t think boost uses qr codes, you need the app to install the eSIM profile, at least that’s my experience.

Also after buying the eSIM in the boost app, it takes hours for the service to appear. You can install the eSIM during the purchase or wait until it appears when you are on the second Phone.

  • Cashback capped at $40? Or multiple can be bought and cashback stacks up?

      • i suspect this is against topcashback's t&c's unless its a legitimate account i.e. family member

  • Hi everybody, which is the easiest way to port out and back please ? With which company ? It's the first time that I want to do that.

    • +1

buy a Optus $2 simcard then it will give you port phone number instructions when activating the service.
wait for service to be active on the Optus sim (just ring your number and see it working) then you can do the second port probably the day after the Optus port.

      • +1

Great ! Thank you very much !

    • $2 Telstra, did that recently, easy process

      • Did you need to put any recharge amount on that Telstra sim for it to activate it?

  • is cashrewards $47.80 valid?

    • Matching promotion deal?? Looks even better

  • Ordered. $2 SIM. They sent me one that expired 6 months ago. Oh well. Move on.

This or the Lebara 360 days 120GB for $119? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/899022

  • +1

    I paid $228 2weeks ago, Lucky Mobile

  • On ShopBack the cashback is $45 until March 31st. Better than $40 cashback on TopCashback.

  • +1

TopCashback has increased cashback to $65.

  • Hi All TopCashback increased to $65 that means now this $300 plan will cost you only $190. $45 Discount from Boost & $65 from TopCashback (300 - 45 - 65 = $190).

I also noticed using Visa card showing error but Mastercard is all good.
