amaysim Prepaid Mobile - $30 Per 90 Days, 4GB Data with Rollover, Unlimited Talk + Text - Existing Customers Only

630

I know this is not a secret but for those who may not know Amaysim offer some plans you can only select after becoming an Amaysim customer which are pretty amazing value. I hadn't seen a post for this so thought I'd make one.

$30 per 90 days (roughly $10/pm)

$60 per annum

  • Unlimited talk + text
  • No Data

$0 per annum

  • 12c/min calls
  • 12c/SMS
  • 5c/MB data

To access these plans I grabbed a $10 prepaid SIM and activated it on the 7-day $10 plan, I believe this is the cheapest entry point. Immediately after I could log in to the Amaysim App or Website and change my plan to any one of the above (or any of the others advertised on their website).

The reason I came across this was I needed two SIM's for my young sons with a little bit of data. x2 of the $30/90-day plans works out about as cheap as it gets. Happy to debate why I went this over a discounted 365-day SIM from another MVNO in the comments :-)

I just thought they were a good-deal, and they're not really advertised. About as good a 'bargain' as it gets depending on your need. Happy to delete the post if it's not up to scratch! :-) Let me know :-)

      • -6

It's not really a bargain though if their is no discount or saving on the normal price.
It is just a FYI post… Belongs in the forums…

        • +2

Yeah but everyone knows Coles & WW half price grocery products are actually their normal price.

          • @WatchNerd: Feel free to post that too…

        • +2

A bargain is literally defined as a better price for a product/service than one would expect. A discount isn't necessarily a bargain, and a bargain isn't necessarily a discount.

This is a cheap mobile plan at a better price than most would expect, hence it's a bargain.

In when you save money based on what you would normally pay for something.

Thanks for posting this. I'm looking for a cheap plan to port to in a few months and hadn't seen this amaysim one advetised on the website as ik not currently with them. And don't mind jv, they are just a pest

        • Thank you for the kind words, I'll leave the post up. I thought it was a bargain! It's weird how Amaysim don't advertise it…

and hadn't seen this amaysim one

It's been mentioned on OzBargain numerous times.

  • my young sons with a little bit of data, 4Gb in 90d

@Erasmuz: how do you stop your sons from using mobile-data, eg share a video with friends…restraint can be difficult with peer-influence ?

Serious-restraint: have you consider buying Amaysim-starter-pack with credit, say $30 on sale for $10, periodically. Select PAYG on activation, & turn-OFF data @ phone?

Pls leave your post as is & thanks for sharing 👍

    • Thanks for your comment ab c!

My children are only young (10) so I'm not experienced enough to answer your question regarding restraint & peer-influence.

While not remotely the same they do have Android tablets and Windows PC's. We use parental controls, time limits and content filters, plus good ol' fashion supervision and it seems to work for now. However these devices are vastly less addictive and hugely more controllable and visible then a personal phone. Also everyone's children are different! I once gave the same advice to a friend then saw her children get on a phone and it was like they were on crack :D You know deep down what's right for your kids.

As for why I chose this mobile plan over others (such as turning off data, as you suggested) was this:

My kids are too young for their own mobile (IMHO) but they do have a legit need for a mobile when they go to sports activities, friends houses and Yu-Gi-Oh! card competitions. So I needed a plan to pop a SIM in some old phones that would give them phone/SMS access, but also enough data to maintain location services and my sons Yu-Gi-Oh! competition app.

I'm not sure I can convince many veteran OzBargain'ers but I do not like limited time rates. I don't like 1/2 off for the first 1, 3 or 6 months, nor do I like the discount 365 day SIM cards. To me (and I acknowledge this is a very personal issue) all that means is there's a ticking time bomb on when I need to do more paperwork - no thank you. I was also concerned with a 365 day SIM that if something went wrong (like they left YouTube on loop) all the data is gone for the year!

If anyone reads this far I'm amazed I'm sorry! The TL:DR is I prefer a monthly (or 3 monthly!) service where the inclusions rese, but as close to the price of a 365-day bargain SIM as I can - and this plan fits the bill.

      • +1

You've made a good decision base on YOUR-circumstances & preferences.

      • I believe Kogan gives you the option of splitting the data into monthly chunks on their yearly plans.

  • +1

Is it on purpose for getting as little as possible for the data, 4GB? I think Catch offers 20GB for similar package.

    • No Sir/Mam, it was purely a $/pm thing.

I think giving kids some limits when they first get a mobile is a brilliant idea! It certainly forces them to understand a bit about data amounts, transfer rates, plan prices, etc… maybe even a bit of a look at how much they are consuming!

However Felix also offer unlimited data for $40/pm, so while we bargain hunt it's a very short ladder before we hit the "this really isn't an issue any more" price point. Sorry to all those that have 4+ kids x$40/pm :D

FWIW when the kids are older and get their own mobiles I will get them a plan just like this and let them hit their data cap, it's a wonderful way to learn. However that was not my motivation at this time, which I'll explain in another post on this thread if anyone is THAT bored they want to read about it :-)

I assume this plan comes with 4GB per 90 days as I have no detail of it.

While Catch mobile has 90-day plan for $40 ongoing with 20GB (they charge old customers for $29 still and not upped yet). If you don't mind of any carrier, you get 5x the data with Catch for $10 more.
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/893306

1GB per month is stressful these days.

        • $10/pm more but a lot more data, tbh I might have gone for this if I'd found it in time :-) I'll move them over if they exceed their data allowance. Thanks for posting

Thanks for sharing! I’m on amaysim and has been a bit upset they scrapped my old $10/4GB 28 days plan and moved me to a $15/18GB one.
I got Wifi at home and at work, don’t watch videos on commute, and thus have no use for all the extra data. Happy to take this deal and save myself $60 a year.

    • Doesn't it make more sense for you to go for one of the annual plans (usually $99 for 60gb per year etc)

  • +2

Oh this is great, thanks for sharing. I've got 3 Sims with amaysim (including one I signed up last week) and this would be perfect

  • is there anyone know the $2 starter sim would work?

  • +1

offer… after becoming an Amaysim customer which are pretty amazing value

Offering value to established customers, what a rare business practice!

  • +1

There is also the $60 for 365days talk and text only in Australia (no data). Handy for those that don't require it or get their Data via other SIMs.

    • +2

Yeah, thinking about that as well. My company gives me a sim with data, as so i could keep my number for calls and work data for data, but it's on the voda network which is pretty crap

  • +1

Sorry how is the bottom-most linked plan a $0 per annum plan? Is it meant to say $10 per annum?

    • +1

I'm not 100% sure but I think the way it works is it's a minimum of $10 to get signed up to Amaysim (as I did in my example) then you can switch to any other plan?

Although the way that link is worded the $10 becomes your 'credit' towards the $0/pa plan, so any calls/sms/data you use gets deducted from this until it runs out?

This would make sense, Amaysim are a prepaid provider so it's not $0 until you are billed, it would be: step 1 - give Amaysim money, step 2 use the $0/pa plan until your credit runs out

      I hope this helps :-)

  • +1

The $60 annual plan is great for kids (I use it for my son at high school), but given the lack of data it's pretty niche! I'd set it up using my wife's plan, and I didn't know about the 3 month plan, so thanks for the info.

  • I also have kids and I use Belong. When a deal like this one pops up, I purchase in preparation when close to the 3 month mark.

This can last 3 months if combined with $20 referral credit & activated on the $30 (25GB) plan. So $55 + $20 equals $75 credit.
    1st month $30 (25GB) - 2nd month $21 (7GB) - 3rd month $21 (7GB) - Total $72
Once your account is set up you can move to the $21 (7GB) plan so it's ready for the next payment date.

So for $27, I get 3 months for each child who I use my own belong sim card as the referee.
    3 kids = $27 * 3 = $81
Each kid uses my referral code which gives me $60 which is almost 3 months ($63 for 3 months).
    So 4 total services for 3 months costs $81 + $3 = $84
$7 per month per sim card and we basically have unlimited data as I have over 500gb banked over the years.
    Works for us.

I port them out to either amaysim, coles mobile or boost when they have a $10 sim card or some type of cashrewards/shopback deal, then back into Belong.

  • There are some budget-friendly options if you choose to use Amaysim.

However, compared to other providers, it has a major drawback — roaming service isn’t enabled by default. To activate it, you need to purchase a minimum $20 roaming pack.

With other providers, roaming is usually enabled automatically, allowing you to receive SMS verification codes and use Wi-Fi calling without extra charges.

    Just sharing my two cents!

  • It's a bargain if you can get say a $50 SIM for like $20 and then use that $50 of credit over the course of 6 months (which you can do) using that $30 for 90 day deal. Assuming you don't need much data, which many may not these days.

  • The old $119 Woolworths plan seems to be a better deal than this in long term, if you can get one: https://www.amaysim.com.au/sim-plans/12-month-sim-plans/119-…

At least Amaysim got the balls not to pull the plugs on old plans, unlike Boost.

    • You can just buy a $30 Amaysim, activate it and choose as PAYG to active that sim with $30 credit (may need to press MORE or something like that for that options)
    • Then put the activated sim into a phone (make sure mobile data is off before you put sim in).
    • Go to normal text SMS, sent $30plan90 to 568. If it does not work, you may need to chat with Amaysim customer support and tell them you want $30 plan for 90 days with 4GB. I'm pretty sure they can do it from their end.
