$60 only for Talk and text is a bit too much. Data is necessary

    • Great for an elderly parent. Wonder if you can just add a service for same price.

      • +2

        Great for an elderly parent

Not anymore, even grandparents need data for sending and receiving group SMSs, I have had issues with two elderly people who one is on Voda$hit and another on Tel$tra, the one on Voda$hit doesn't get the message at all while the other one gets it but can't read the content (text only) so she know that she needs to turn data on!
And nowadays grandparents' phones need data because phones need constantly to be updated.

This option is only available if you already have any amaysim plan

What a non sense, even the cheapest phone plan has data so why would I move to a non sense text only plan???

        • I didnt realise a 3G Big Button phone could use data :)

        • Yeah I'll keep my mum on catch connect. $90 if you leave auto recharge on. $90 for 60gb and unlimited talk and text per year.

          • @Circly: It's $120 for 60 GB if you change plans?

            • @bcYield: Not sure what you mean but I got an email from catch connect that said I'd get 25% off ($90) if I recharged. So could either recharge now or do auto recharge and I'd get the discount when it rolls over.

              • @Circly: The 25% discount makes sense. Not sure if you get it again next year. From what I see their normal plan is 365d 60gb is $120.

                • +1

@bcYield: Yup that's the normal plan my mum is on. I swear last year I got the same deal and also paid $90.

Prefer $60/yr unlimited data no talk😂

    • +2

      That's the future

  • +1

Perfect for my dad who is 83 years old. Will get the Woolies deal to make even cheaper.

    Thanks OP.

    • How?

    • Ooo this looks interesting.
Please can you confirm the process here?
      1) you port the sim to this (to keep existing number), so now u r an existing customer
      2) then use the $40 credit + $20 (pay on top online) to get onto this plan
      Will it work?

      • +1

You port to the as you go plan and change the plan on the app or website after the port is completed. Yes it will let you use the credit on the service to buy the plan.

        • Thanks, will give it a go. Hope I find it in-store

    • how often do similar deals come?

  • +3

it's kinda crap, i am with amaysim and a few months ago got 60 gig plus all the talk and text for $60 for 12 months (also $7 cashback). Since then they've clearly downgraded their plans and i note their current other 12 month sim offers now start at 170. Nice to see price-gouging in full effect.

    • -7

a few months ago got 60 gig plus all the talk and text for $60 for 12 months

You should never buy long term plans because prices and offers change all the time, like car insurance you need to shop around unless you prefer to be relaxed or live overseas and just buy a one year plan.

      • +5

Your advice is the opposite of what happened. They got a better deal months ago.

        • +1

Yeah im on the $100/365day/180gb plan from a few months back

I mean even for car insurance you pay less if you pay for a year upfront vs paying for it monthly

          • @Rain Cloud:

you pay less if you pay for a year upfront

It seems like you didn't shop around with the latest prices hike, some hyenas discount you ~$10 but also you shop around and find a better deal and save $100-200, same goes with phone plans, private health insurances etc. etc..

            • @billadm: Honestly Im paying just over $8 a month for the year without any hassle of porting in and out so im happy

            • @billadm: Please show us how to save $100-$200 on a $100 plan. I'd like a free plan, and a $100 profit would be even better.

      • +1

I did shop around. Tell me how it's so much cheaper right now than the $53 i paid for 12 months of call, text and 60 gig data with Amaysim in May, please?

      • +1

Except his deal comes to $5 per month, which is pretty hard to beat and amazing value for the year

        • "pretty hard to beat"
Recently paid for my 3rd year of Woolies mobile. first year cost $25 after factoring in 10% discount, second year made more savings using 10% than the plan cost
          .

    • My yearly plan 180gb for $200 expires in 10 days and I contacted them to see if there are any upcoming deals or if they can do any discounts and they said sorry can't do any discounts and if I change yearly plan to $170 plan which is 150gb as well, all my remaining DATA will be forfeited as well:(

  • +3

If you change to this plan and have existing data, do you know if you can keep that data?

    • +2

Usually all data will be forfeited if a plan is changed. Please let me know if you find a way to keep the balance of data when changing plan.

    • I tried last time round with several service agents and they wouldn’t let me roll my 250Gb+ to a different plan.

  • +2

    boost sim hopping continues

  • Noticing sim deals have become more expensive.

    • What do you consider is a cheap plan? This is $5 a month for unlimited calls and text.

      • You could get same price with decent data couple of years ago with cash back deals

  • +2

The only place where I'd see this being useful is for a phone for a small business that is used as a secondary for outgoing SMS or calls. Even elderly people need data

    • Yeah i am on the lookout for a 12 month deal for my 85 year old dad but no data means no deal. Still $100 with Coles/Woolies for 60 gig and call and text (15 international countries included) for 12 months appears to be the best value atm.

  • -1

This plan would be great if you had an Iphone. Use it to make and receive calls and use an esim for data. If you find a better deal on data esims you don't have to port your talk and text sim account.

    • +2

Nah that doesn't make sense at all sorry. Just get a service that has data. Also not sure what having an iPhone has to do with it, many devices have ESIM now

  • My mobile hotspot speeds are carp with amaysim, anyone please confirm if you have same issue?

    • +6

Are carp speeds good for phishing?

    • Nope my speeds are fine on both a Pixel 2 used as a hotspot and an S22 ultra from time to time. Similar speeds, obviously not as good with 4G on the Pixel compared to 5G speeds on the Samsung. Maybe check your device can actually use the Amaysim bands to their full potential.

      • Thank you, will try again.

  • +2

Amaysim does this yearly plan with 60GB data for $60 twice a year, usually around November and Black Friday.

    • is it 60gb unlimited call sms? can i activate 40 dollar sim and use the vredit to part pay? as an ecisting customer?

      • I would also like to know.
        Thank you.

      • i wondering about this aswell..have anyone tried it?

      • Sorry I haven't been checking this deal but this was the last time they did $60 for 60gb and calls + text:

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/776176

Doesn't look like they will do it again for Black Friday as they have already have their deals up on the website.

  • MMS will work?

  • Not a bad deal you can just use the boost profit sims for the data.

    • Yeah, might be able to offset the cost of the amaysim plan with the boost profit deals!

  • +2

I just renewed my Amaysim 60Gb/$120 plan yesterday. My wife got the discount earlier in the year which brought hers down to $90, but I didn't get anything - so I emailed them to ask about any retention offers.

They replied back with a 'sure, why not' and I also got the $30 discount! So it can be worth just asking directly.

    • That’s a pretty good deal.
$90/12M = $7.5/month with 5GB per month to use or you can use it all up 60GB in one go.

Didn’t know about retention offers. Guess it doesn’t hurt asking for a discounted deal.
Heck, even $120/year is a good deal in current inflation market.

Boost now charges $230/year with 160GB data…. Extra 10GB added if new customer then it’s 170GB but still not value for money imo.

I miss my Virgin mobile sim only plan. It was a good value for me.

What phone do you use & how’s the reception quality? Optus seems neck and neck with Telstra in suburban areas & cbd. Go rural only Telstra ftw

      • Telstra monopoly hasn't been an issue for me for years thankfully. Blackspots are equal between both Telstra and Optus due to terrain and distance (Vodafone is still nonexistent as usual).

        Didn’t know about retention offers

I didn't think so either with Amaysim, but my wife got the email offer a few months ago and had zero reason to say no since it's already the lowest cost plan/month at the full $120. Didn't hurt to ask for my plan since I already had the proof that it was possible, and wouldn't have changed providers anyway.

  • If you can wait… I believe they have a $60 for 60GB/365 days plan with talk/text.

    • can i activate 40 dollar sim and use the credit to part pay? when does it normally come? ecisting customer?

  • nooooooooo

thanks for this, needed exactly this for my old man and thought I did well with the $99 deal a little while back, maybe next year I will remember to roll him over to this instead - don't think he needs data at all

    c'est la vie

  • is this available as eSIM?
    anyone know if it can at least recieve MMS for free? (I'm guessing prob not}

used to be on a (now grandfathered) Dodo plan for $5 a month unlimited calls and text. was quite useful back when I had a phone that could have dual physical SIMs installed - got a decent data only SIM plan to put in the other slot and it worked out well.

Phone I have now unfortunately takes only one physical SIM plus one eSIM, there weren't any reasonable data only eSIM plans around, barely any eSIM plans around at all for that matter - recent months there's been a few more resellers offering eSIM plans but they're all data+call+sms so it was no longer making any sense to keep the dodo call/sms only SIM active - other than the holding on to my long term number (which mostly doesn't even mattter, but when it does. it DOES matter. Like I end up copletely freakin locked out my bank accounts all weekend cos I can't receive a stupid OTP code.

    • Yes it can be used with eSIM. My backup phone is on this plan and I can receive and send MMS.

  • +2

Depending on how often you call and text, it might be cheaper to go on their PAYG plan instead. I'm on this and I recharge $10 maybe every 4 or 5 months.

    • Likewise, but I'm thinkin if I buy this + referalls cash back etc, that it should end up ahead by a few bucks and that's a win right?

  • Pretty decent deal if it stacks with their roaming plans… $80/year for international talk and txt

  • i could get this deal but wait for on sales for better deals..they had $60 for 60GB in the past so watch out for that, as people suggested BF sales…

thinking about my usage i already have enough data but need one really cheap unlimited calls/text plans only as throwaway/burner..towards public more than private.

  • Will this work with the $2 starter sim?

  • 2GB could be great.

  • Any referral codes?
