  • Is it still a deal when paying the unlock price?

    • -2

well, yes. For example you might be using an Amaysim, which would work on this phone.

Also if you buy it for $285 from Mobilciti even with the $80 unlocking fee you'll still be $7 better off, so yes a bargain

Optus Oppo F1 is available at Big W as well. 7.5% extra discount with gift cards will make it ~$184

      • The Optus version has dual-sim and some 3G/4G bands disabled whereas Mobilciti does not.

Would definitely pay $7 more for Mobilciti version assuming it is Aus stock.

  • A whole new level of vain if you buy a phone for the free selfie stick

    • It's a decent phone for the price.
And with 3rd party ROM support coming thanks to brinlystorm on Whirlpool.

Be aware that some (all?) users are reporting that Band 28 is not activated by default.

    • any idea how you can activated it?

      • Engineering Mode each time you restart.
and also complaining to Optus who are selling a device and claiming default support despite the fact its not actually active out of the box - assuming it is a problem being experienced by all Optus Prepaid handsets.

        • Was going to mention it locks itself again after reboot but you editied your post and beat me to it :-) Apparently the unlocked F1 has band 28.

    Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro.

    • great price, for great phone, however its a grey import and some people prefer dealing with a B&M Aussie shop.

Also 5.5" screen may be too big for and clunky for some.

      • That's what… oh wait.

      • this phone is only slightly smaller than redmi note 3. this phone has large bezels

  • unlocking this specific phone is pointless

optus have block the bands required to be used with Vodafone or Telstra

read the whirlpool thread on it.

I have this phone with dodo and its awesome!

    • Seems you can manually unlock them in Engineering mode, but yes…
The really interesting moment will come when the F1 bootloader unlock, root and custom ROM is properly released… Then it might well be possible to flash the non-Optus Modem file and have all bands unlocked.

This should work fine on Optus resellers without an unlock, right? (e.g. Vaya, LiveConnected etc)

Just letting you guys know that if you don't want to pay an unlocking fee, buy a prepaid sim card and charge $80 and you will be charged no fee

Provided that you've recharged your Prepaid service to a minimum/accumulated amount of $80 there is no fee
