After after the eligible spend. No Annual fee for first year, might as well use it for 11 months and close if after?

      • +5

I would cancel as soon as you get the bonus points so that the 12 month timer between bonus offer eligibility starts ticking again.

        • Yes very good.

    • After the three month spend period. That's what happened for me.

    • +1

As expected it's in the fine print. Bonus points may take up to 3 months or more to be credited after eligible purchases. Cancellation of the card prior to the points being awarded may result in the points not being awarded.

    • +1

I applied for this in early September 2015, bought $7500 worth of stuff within the 3 month period. I rang them the other day and they said they would be crediting my points after the end of the 4th month. Im guessing this should be any day now for me.

Argh don't have income of $75k. would they find out if I lie? If I lied and get busted… would they give me bad credit rating?

    • no. ull just go to jail for fraud hahha

      • lol yeh right, there would be heaps people going to jail then :P

        • Um yea, I was joking.. pfftt man read a book!

        • @Gavman: I hate books! lol. hahahahaha.

    • They check your income

    • Are you close? If you're like $72000, then maybe give it a go. If you're $30000, then no chance.

      • yeh pretty close to it! lol. I gave it a shot.. waiting for a response now. they say it will take 5 days… bs to that 60secs response!

        • usually 10% deviation.

        • +2

@brongz: Woot - got approved. maybe i have enough assets. Who knows. :D YAY

        • @nightfever:

what?? how? Thought your income is less than $75k

        • @Padzyk: Not sure, but my income was not a lot less thank 75k. I do have a lot of assets and 2 credit cards with $0 outstanding balance. Maybe good credit history? Who knows, I have bank accounts with them as well.

        • -1

@nightfever: Would be great if you can pm me your income details so I can get an idea if mine application will go through if i apply. I'm just below 75k

        • +1

@Padzyk: Soz mate, can't share exact info. :\ It's private.

Why don't you just apply and see if you do get through, worse comes to worst you get denied with 5 mins of life wasted.

          I did that exactly that.

        • -5

@nightfever: yeh thats what PM is for bro.

If it gets denied it might put a dent in my credit record which I'm pretty cautious of cos I'm planning to take out a loan to buy a property soon.

        • @Padzyk: Can't help you there bruh. If you are going to take out a loan to buy a property. The less cards you have the better chance of a good loan amount you will get.

        • @nightfever: yeh but free 75,000 Qantas points man

        • @Padzyk: Hmmm, still though. If I tell you my income and you are on similar income, then you applied… you get knocked back. Don't want to see a fallen bruh tho.

        • @nightfever: but if I get accepted you can sleep well knowing that you helped a bruh out

        • @Padzyk: lol PM me your income details then, I can tell you I have higher or lower. :)

        • @nightfever: I would if i could, you need to turn your PM on bruh

        • @Padzyk: lol - done. Enabled.

        • +13

          @nightfever:

          Bruhs… get a room!! lol

        • @Tuhan: lol did and done!

        • @nightfever: Did they call you to ask for evidence or what? How did they get more info about you between the application and the approval? Mine is saying 5 days as well.

        • -1

          @Kothos: What's your salary?

        • good luck with that!

My bro took the offer last month spent 7.5k get 75k for black.

Approval in 1 min, spent 10k next 2 weeks and then they call him asked for payslip

My bro has income >75k here and international.

Aussie income is less than 75k, they decided to void the card and all the bonus points lol

        • @Kothos:

They will ask for evidence after you use the card for few days/weeks

        • +1

          @fomal: Crikey….that is bizarre.

        • @Kothos: nah, no call nothing. I just got email said its approved. My work salary is paid to my ANZ accounts.

I assume by now you would have got an approval email?

        • @nightfever: They actually called me to check some things today. One of the investments I cited on my income is half in wife's name and the paperwork I supplied said that, so they wanted me to revise my mortgage repayments share etc. Also they said when putting down your monthly expenses, you only have to put down shopping, bills, mobile and travel commute expenses. Nothing else. After those two revisions I got approved over the phone.

        • @fomal:
lol wtf? what did your bro say? Maybe they think your bro wasn't able to pay off that 10k?

        • @Padzyk:
he was upset, he paid the 10k straight away and said it was anz loss not to have him using their cc as he has crazy international income

        • @fomal: Yeh it's defintely ANZ loss considering how much your brother was spending on the CC. Why didn't he complain?? bit low how ANZ decided to backflip after approving him. Let me guess, his AU income is much lower than 75K?

        • @HarveySpecter:
He made a complaint through phone, staff said decision is final.

        • @fomal: Many posts around this site suggest most providers don't check. Didn't rrealllly believe it.

I was thinking of accidentally entering a $75000+ income. I satisfy the $50k savings option, though. So will just go that angle.

        • @Utopian:
          yea unlucky him.

Does that 50k deposit needs to be a term deposit?

        • @fomal: I don't believe so. Simply states: "have $50,000 in Australian Authorised Deposit-taking Institution (ADI) accounts"

  • So is this better than this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/228327, considering this is free and that one needs $295?

    • If you have an income of >$75K then this is better

      • Or
"have $50,000 in Australian Authorised Deposit-taking Institution (ADI) accounts"

        • That only applies for non-Australian residents

        • @HarveySpecter: BALLS!
          How do you know this?
I'm gonna call them. I'd like/expect the same right. Money in the bank should speak volumes. I've got a lot more than required.

        • @Utopian: Cos it says on their requirements

*Be a non-Australian permanent resident with more than 9 months remaining on your Visa, earning a minimum annual income of $75,000 or have $50,000 in Australian Authorised Deposit-taking Institution (ADI) accounts

        • @HarveySpecter: Damn. Even the $50k part is mentioned on some pages, but not others. Thanks for letting me know. Still gonna call. Want those points!! :D

just cancelled my platinum at ANZ after they said they wont waiver the fee for this coming year.

    • +2

They wouldn't waive my fees either so did the same :(

    • With some credit card providers, best option is to pay the fee, then ring up and request payout figure to close account stating fees are too expensive and they should refund the fees, did this twice on separate cards and got both fees refunded, one was HSBC and the other Woolworths Money. A risk but worked for me

  • -1

If i have a platinum edge issued by Amex can i also get this deal?

    • +1

yes, as long as it is not issued by ANZ

  • -1

Can you convert Qantas points for Velocity? if so whats the rate?

  • What can you get for 75,000 QFF points?

    • +1

Return business class flights Sydney-Perth. One way to London (plus enough to go Brisbane-Melbourne). Premium economy to LA or Santiago. Plenty of options in Asia.

    • +2

Qantas recently (marginally) reduced the cost of redeeming flights, but also end of last year had a 50% off sale on points needed to redeem international flights. At that time, I got return to the USA for 50,000 points.

      • I heard they can jack up fees and taxes on point redemption. So 50,000 return could be + $788 taxes.

        • True, but in the latest change (last week) they also reduced these. I think it may have been by up to 40%.

        • point is they tend to jack it up on their discression based on supply and demand instead of adjusting the points to catch people out which sucks balls

      • +2

I got return to the USA for 50,000 points

        and how much in taxes?

        • charges and taxes amounted to about $600… so yes its not a totally free ride. but still relatively cheap if you wanted to use your points. Otherwise you'd have to wait for a sale and pay $1,100 for a return trip. So saving about $500 by using the points.

        • @hunter_syd:
From Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane you can get to Los Angeles for about $920 - $980 (not necessarily with Qantas) depending on the day. So if your 50,000 points was for that route on one of the cheaper days then it saved you about $350, or 0.7c per point. That's similar to using the points on a gift card.

        • @Dacs: Mine was to New York. But fair point if you didn't want to travel Qantas and went with Air NZ or something

        • @hunter_syd:
Ah, if for New York then that's pretty good value from the points. I would have done the same :-)

    • Excellent. Seems like worth going through the application then.

  • so 1 point is about 0.7-0.8 real cents from googling, can FF members confirm?

    • It all depends on what you are spending the points on. Gift cards seem to have a lower return on invest than buying a flight. I have heard upgrading your seat has the best return on investment.

      • A friend of mine who flies a lot, and another travelling colleague, both say they only uses points for upgrades. They buy economy then use points to get business class. It might be the most efficient use of points but if you don't travel much then business class is a bit of a luxury you could probably do without.

    • If you are redeeming Points for gift cards it works out close to that
i.e 3500 points for $25 David Jones Gift card ~0.7c
or 3000 points for $20 Wish Gift Card ~0.6c

Does anyone know when this offer ends?

  • Seems like there's a similar offer on the Platinum card and basic card, just with fewer points. Maybe include that in the deal as well :).

  • Does anyone have any advice on which is better out of the ANZ rewards black and the Frequent Flyers black? Platinum is 3 points per dollar, where as black is 1.5 points (amx). Frequent Flyers comes with Qantas lounge access.
A good spot to compare, https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/compare-cards/ there is also a deal on the Platinum black card which is 75k points.

    • +1

ANZ FF bonus points worth far more (up to double, depending on how you use them) than the ANZ rewards. FF far better promo.

      • Explains why you get double the points per spend with the ANZ rewards. Thanks for your help!

  • Thanks!!! Finally bit the bullet.

  • +1

For those who are asking about existing card holders, the offer worked for me. I still have an existing and active ANZ low rate card (which hasn't been used for a couple years) applied for the Black in December, and got credited the 75k points on my first statement.

    • The main concerns (and where people are asking likely from) are "ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months." As yours was a different card, it wasn't where they are most concerned.

      • +1

Yes I noticed that, however there is another user who asked a general question about having "an existing credit card" and was not specific- I should have replied to his comment but figured not everyone reads every single comment/response which is why I thought it would be better to post a comment. Anyways was only trying to be helpful to others.

  • What is the easiest way to cancel cards to avoid the annual fee for next year?

    • Go to a branch.

    • +1

      Cancel before your anniversary date.

    • +2

With ANZ , very easy to cancel over the phone.

    • ring them and say you want to cancel due to fees

if you are lucky and have spent plenty they will wipe the fees for another year

    • call them to cancel the card. easy peasy

    • Recently, best method that worked for me - pay the fee then ring up requesting payout figure to close account stating fees being too high, and they should refund the fee. Did this twice on separate cards and no problems in getting a refund…worth a try

    • If you're last minute like me. Log in online banking and send them an email so that it's in writing. Most likely they charge you for an annual fee but no worries they will give you a full refund.

  • +1

This card is also eligible for 2 free entries per calendar year into the American Express Lounge at Sydney International Airport.

    https://amexnetwork.com.au/goodgoing

    • Plus "Two Qantas Club lounge access passes per year"

  • If I use this card ( online facility ) to paid my rent ( online ), would that count as "spending" ?

    • Unlikely. I'm assuming you don't pay rent via BPay, hence you would be treating it like an EFT transfer which is deemed a cash advance. Not only will you get charged high interest on a cash advance but the "purchase" is not deemed eligible towards your $2500 min spend.

      • You're correct this R.A doesn't has BPAY. So if I paid for thing through BPAY it counts toward the "spending". Thank you for the info. How about paypal transaction that link to this card ?

        • +2

In my experience BPAY does not always count in terms of earning points, but it may count as a purchase (this was with Westpac). PayPal transactions are purchases yes.

        • +1

Yeah, what @uder said. Paypal transactions are just like paying for something with your credit card, so qualifies.

Some cards have been switching to exclude earning points on BPay (although I'm not sure how this impacts minimum spend criterion), but all of the T&C's for this particular card suggest that you will get points for a merchant that accepts BPay via credit card.

  • Great deal. I just got my points from the previous deal which required a $7500 spend. Now looking for the next deal given I've done ANZ, Westpac and Commonwealth in the past 12 months. NAB?

  • It sure is :)
