    • Same question here, is bill payment considered to be cash advance?

      • I think it's only a Cash Advance if the Biller does not accept BPay payments from CC.

        From ANZ FAQ - http://www.anz.com/personal/credit-cards/faqs/credit-card-fa…

Will a bill payment made using my credit card be treated as a purchase or a cash advance?

Bill payments from your credit card can be processed as either a purchase or a cash advance. This is dependent upon how the biller is set up with the BPAY® billing service. The biller has the option of accepting a credit card as a method of payment. If the biller chooses to accept, the bill payment is processed as a purchase. If the biller does not accept credit card payments, ANZ may allow you to make the payment using your credit card (when sufficient funds are available). If you choose to proceed with the payment, it will be processed as a cash advance. Relevant fees and interest will apply from the date of the cash advance.

what's the quickest way to spend $1500 in 3 months? Answer: by visiting Ozbargain everyday.

    • +4

topup your stored value train ticket using the new card. e.g. OPAL, MYKI, etc.. or purchase a quarterly, yearly ticket before they cancel the paper tickets (NSW).

      • Genius.

Does paying your taxes via ATO easy pay work? I used to use the ANZ rewards platinum and it gave me points just fine…

        • Yes. Did my HECS end of last year. Full points, well worth the .42% they charge for it (though worth less if you're using the ANZ Visa cards, due to the lower earn rate. Still worth it if it gets you to the $1500.

Go buy a Macbook Pro, then return it within the 14day no questions policy.
They actually have an option on their returns system called Buyers Remorse.

      • But if you put the refund back to that Credit Card, I believe it removes the points earned.

        • Once the points change hands, you're free to do as you wish, I believe.

      • Has anyone tried refunding and gotten points?

        From the Qantas website:
9.1.3 Points will not be awarded in relation to any products or services that are cancelled, refunded or returned. Qantas Loyalty may cancel or deduct any Points that have been awarded in relation to cancelled, refunded or returned products or services

    • $1500 in 3 months really isn't that hard - $500 a month = $125 per week approx.

If you have a car, then fuel is likely to be around $50-60 of that, depending on your commute etc.. Or equivalent on public transport (My Zone 1 and 2 Myki for example is $190 every 4 weeks)

The weekly food shop is likely to be easily another $70 a week or more

$1500 in 3 months spent easily, without even having to look for extra purchases.

      • With your specific examples, many Ozbargainers have other preferable methods of paying for groceries/fuel (ING/MEBank/WISH Gift Cards/BP Gift Cards).
But there are definitely ways to hit $1500 without really spending that money straight away. Someone mentioned buying WISH Gift Cards through entertainment book. That's probably the best way.

      You get both

  • So, does anyone with the citibank signature card think this is worth another query on your credit file? It's a good deal but I don't know if I should try it.

  • What are eligible purchases?
For example does paying utility bills qualify?
    1500 is quite a lot.

    • Approved! Though should we be concerned about "eligible purchases" or everyday grocery counts?

      • I usually buy wish gift cards

        • Can you resell them easily?

      • I will really struggle to spend 1500 in three months.
Even if I pause the direct debit on utilities and use this card instead, update the TPG card details for phone and internet, buy one train quarterly ticket and buy all my food with this card I would still end up short for say 200-ish according to my estimations.

          buy coles/woolworth gift cards

        • +1

Again the question can you resell them easily?
I do my shopping in Chinese/Indian small shops, Aldi and food markets which are way cheaper than Coles and Woolies. In Coles and Woolies I only buy things 50% off and more.

        • Give 200 (or any left over amount) to charity in June 2015, claim on taxes, and then cancel the card

        • Coles and Woolies gift cards are also able to be used for petrol. You can also use supermarket gift cards to buy gift cards for other places (like David Jones, iTunes, cinemas).

        • +2

You struggle to spend 1,500 a month?
Man. I really need to re-align my budget.

        • Has to be spent during the first three months right after getting the card, thus cant give to charity in 2015. I dont drive, no car.
Yes you can, use public transport, cook at home and bring to work, buy affordable and that`s it. Struggle to spend 500 per month.

        • +1

noskitch: What you say completely blows my mind. I want to understand and learn from you, who I think would have to be one of the most frugal people I've come across!

          $200 short of $1500 is $1300 over 3 months = $100 per week exactly
$100 minus $35 weekly train and $15~ weekly TPG/phone/prepaid at least = $50 left over which you would easily spend at Aldi who accept credit cards

Your $200 shortfall equates to roughly $15 a week. Find an asian grocer who accepts credit cards. Your grand total might be $5 more than the cash only place, but you'll make it back in $300 of gift cards you can claim with your 50,000 FF points.

Seriously, for how frugal you make it seem, you aren't very good at getting something for free.

Do you even know how to OzBargain?! Forget My earlier statement. I will learn nothing from you.

        • +2

noskich - if you struggle to spend that much in 3 months, what use do you have for 50000 QFF points?

        • +1

I have a concession and buy quarterly train ticket which is 170 for three months. The TPG plans are 16 for phone and 60 for internet monthly. Food markets dont accept cards and they are my major source of food as Im a vegetarian and prefer buying affordable and fresh fruits and vegetables.

        • I will use the points for the flight as I mentioned previously.

        • Do you have private health insurance?

        • No.

        • Starting to think splathowa had a good point.

        • I have leave planned for march next year, thus I need the flight tickets.

        • Buy your food from proper stores for the next few months, and prepay whatever you can.

Ask your mates if they'd mind you paying for any of their purchases on your card, and they reimburse you.

        • I think you can do better on the Internet price…

Another Bank issued Amex = opportunity to cash in on Amex rebates.

    • yes but remember bank issued cards have some offers missing

    • +2

I opened the free Amex Frequent Flyer Card. Completely free QFF card and I get access to all the Amex rebates. Win.

  • Thanks. Approved

  • Thanks Approved.

    Declined!

    • +2

Request your 1 free credit rating report. You should know why as this may bite you in the butt one day.

  • +1

Is there a cap on the ongoing QFF points that you can earn on the card? I know some banks have a cap. Defeats the purpose of having the card if you are capped on how many points you can accrue in a month.

    • Usually it's 100k per month or something ridiculous. In any case, none of these bank cards are much chop at earn rate anyway. Woolworths Qantas Mastercard gives you 1:1, and for a relatively modest $89 (usually waived if you call to cancel).

      • The reason I ask is…my mate has a Westpac card and he is limited to 3,750 points per month (I kid you not). that is a joke for a platinum card. Westpac has a similar Black card that is unlimited. And this ANZ offer also stipulates that the Black is unlimited.

Not that I would pay $400+ a year for a credit card anyway…

        • +1

Yes, that's big four banks for you - too many customers are happy to stay with the same bank from their primary school Dollarmite account, to the day they die.

Really enjoy the incentives they throw out for the promiscuous customers amongst us. :D

    • ANZ doesn't have a cap on their rewards cards, regardless of whether you get the base card, platinum or black.

  • Does this credit card application automatically sign you up for qantas frequent flyer membership? Sorry if this is a silly q… never had frequent flyer membership before.

  • +3

The rewards card have similar promotion but instead of $1500 in 3 months, they require an eligible purchase in 30 days: http://www.anz.com/personal/credit-cards/rewards-frequent-fl…

Not sure what it means with eligible purchase though.

What's better value? ANZ FF or the rewards card?

    • Does the rewards card grant 50,000 Qantas points?
Because the word Qantas is not mentioned in this deal unlike the other ones?

      • +1

no i think it s 5000 rewards points which can be converted to FF (of any airlines), dun know the exchange rate though.

        • Thanks. Would love to know whether these 50K points would be equivalent in value to the 50K Qantas points for travel. I dont care about the airline Im just interested in getting a flight such as SYD-HK return for free plus taxes.

        • Have a feeling they aren't. HSBC points, for example, have a worth of 0.5c per point, e.g. the recent 30k free points promo get you $150 worth of free gift vouchers.

        • It would appear that they don't transfer to Qantas FF Points. Transfers to Virgin and CP etc look to be 2:1 or worse.

          https://anzrewards.com/public/redeem_category.aspx?deptid=68…

        • Yes, a few years ago, Qantas decided they wouldn't allow purchase of FF points from ordinary credit cards, and only 'direct earn' (with the $49 fee) was available to banks.

    • If you want to redeem for anyqantas flight related items (fares, upgrades etc) then get the FF card. Otherwise the points on the ANZ Rewards points look far better VFM for things like gift cards.

  • +1

So tempting… but really don't need another credit card…

  • Can I have multiple Amex card which all accrue Qantas points and have these points all LINKED to the same Qantas membership number?

Just not sure if I apply for this card and where these Qantas FF points end up at!!??

    • Yes, just input your QFF # during application

    • This will be my 3rd Amex linked to my FF account. And I've had another 3 before.

Hrm… Maybe this is why my application got referred LOL

  • Possible for my wife and I to apply separately?

    • Absolutely. As long as she is Australian PR +18.

      • and can she USE my Qantas FF membership which is under my name??

        • No

        • then I guess it's too much trouble having two QFF accounts accruing points. These points don't expire i am assuming.

        • You could let her accrue points and when you cancel the cards transfer her points to your account.

          http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/usingPoints/fami…

        • They expire after 3 years of your QFF account not being used (eg not accruing any points for a whole 3 years), under the current terms

        • You can transfer your QFF points to family members 4 times a year through your FF account. Just sign her up, get her 50000 points then transfer them from her FF account to your FF account. Win win.

  • I also got approved on the spot without needing to provide payslips and blah (which stopped me from getting the visa signature last time as I'm hella lazy =( ). So I'm very happy. Thank you, OP!

  • I have to send in a bucket of documents…. annoying.

  • What's the cheapest way to buy QFF points?

    Anyone got any good methods?

    • -1

Someone suggested buying a Macbook and refunding it.

      • But if you buy and then return it for a refund, and the refund gets applied to the credit card, wouldn't that disqualify you for the 50,000 Qantas points?

Or does the $1500 spend doesn't take into account if it gets refunded or not?

    • Woolworth Gift Cards (Can be used at Big W, Woolies, Caltex, Dick Smith, Dan Murphs.. etc.)

    • Front loading any of your monthly spend is a good option. You could pay upfront on your phone bill (but do so directly, possibly not through the Post), your health insurance, car insurance, buy Christmas presents early, load up on Coles and Woolies gift vouchers (especially if you have access to 5% WISH discount) that can be used on all manner of every day stuff.

      • How do I get access to 5% WISH discount?

  • Referred!

Home owner/investments/no debit/6 figure income/ and they offer me a DEBIT card…"In reviewing your application we have identified that you may be eligible for an ANZ Access Advantage account (with Visa Debit)"; because I'm retired?

    • So are they evaluating you, or that was the result of the evaluation. My wife and I both have 6 figure incomes, both with same employer over 10 years, almost own our house(about 90% paid off), yet we both had to provide information to support our income. We've NEVER had that with any other lender before. We only asked for a 1K limit on their standard card… seems very strange to me…

  • NVM

  • got email reply:

""""We are unable to give you a final answer to your Credit Card application at this time, as further processing is required""""

=====> does that mean I am likely to get KNOCKED BACK with my application? (i only applied for the basic FF card)

anyone's got approved in the first go without receiving above email notification?

    • Yeah my application went through immediately. They will probably ask you for a payslip or something else as they couldn't approve you on the spot.

    • I applied for the Regular card and got approved immediately. Then after reading through the posts about all the positives of the Black, I decided to apply for that one as well later that night around midnight. I got the same email as you, but then the next morning around 9:00am I got another email saying I have been approved. I didn't need to submit anything at all.

Hopeful that I can rack up 100k points on both cards fingers crossed. If not, at least I'll get 50k points on one of the cards, and eventually cancel the Regular and hang onto the Black, cos once you go Black you'll never go back =)

    • Although you got negged (not from me), let me give you a warm hug to make you feel better ^^

  • anyone know how much $ is minimum credit limit for each card type? Can you nominate in your application or automatic?
