Citi Premier Credit Card: 110,000 Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Points - $8,000 Spend in 3 Months, $300 Annual Fee @ Citi Bank

200

Repeat of this popular deal from Points hack but this time direct from Citi Bank: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/836040

$8k spend over 3 months is high but you can still take advantage of Payall before it closes down from 20 January.

If you don't elect for auto-sweep you'll receive 220k Citi points instead and these can be manually converted to Flybuys (1:1) or Velocity (2:1) from Citi Rewards store.

Citi credit team are really quick at processing applications. I applied for the Points hack offer last month and was approved and received card within 5 business days of applying.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2024

  • is using payall still free of charge

    • No, they charge 0.95% from memory - so meeting all the minimum spend would cost you ~$80 in fees - probably still worth it

Eligible purchases exclude Citi PayAll payments

ah good pick up..! NAB have really killed off the Citi cards :(

  • +3

Please edit about Payall. It does not count towards your eligible purchase. It might confuses someone and they will be stuck with trying to spend 8k in 3 months. That's a lot of spending.

  • Any restrictions on previous cardholders?

    • yeah i think there was something noting other citi-backed cards but can't find or see it on phone atm - i have virgin money card currently and looking to close that out and get this but have concern that it's not going to work

      • There’s no restrictions that I know of. I held the Citi prestige card and successfully got the bonus points for the premier card with the points hack offer. Successfully applied for and received two sets of bonus points for the virgin money card within 6 months of each other too earlier this year

        • so just to clarify you've held two citi bank credit cards within a short period of time and received the bonus points for them?

          • +1

@nicolascage: I held Prestige and then got a Premier and got the points (confirmed in chat beforehand).

I'm more concerned about the timeout period for previously having held the Premier (if any) or any restriction like not available if you previously earned points on the same card.

I closed the Premier in about Sept 2023 but still have the Prestige (for now).

            • @gadgetguy: FYI I reached out to live chat. They advised that if you had ANY introductory bonus points offers in the past by Citi bank (regardless of card type), you would not be eligible for the bonus points. Not sure how true it is but I would not be risking it given the high spend

              • @Derain: Their chat team might say that but don't understand why they still can't be bothered simply adding an exclusion period in writing within their t&c like everyone else if that's really the case. Maybe they'll finally get around to it now after axing PayAll eligibility for the minimum spend.

Also Citi seems to be particularly trigger happy with rejections if you've had recent churns.

EDIT: Actually you might be correct with regards to Velocity at least. Seems like they used to have a 'forever' exclusion criteria on their website but it's gone now.

                • @vawiyoci: Yea I specifically asked if this was for any card which they confirmed yes. I had the Citi prestige which wasn’t a velocity card but you could redeem to velocity.

You could potentially try a few different live chat sessions to see if you get a different response but it’s a pass for me I think.

                  • @Derain: Yeah might just have to stick with their qantas ones (apply maybe every 3 months lol?). Unfortunately these days the breadth of choices are also getting slimmer with the extended exclusion periods for NAB and now westpac & co.

                    • @vawiyoci: So your saying no waiting period in Qantas but waiting period in this card i.e. premier card?

      • After chatting with a Citi rep, my understanding is that you can't get a sign-up bonus for the same product if you have received a bonus previously. So, if you had Citi Premier with a bonus, you won't get another bonus if you sign up for Citi Premier again, but you will get a bonus if you sign up for Citi Prestige or other Citi products

Can also transfer to Krisflyer for approx 90,000 KF points (after minimum spend etc)

    • Yeah I did this recently, ripper deal

  • What are the points worth in dollars?

Best offer out there at the moment if you can hit the spend?

    Much appreciated.

    • Recently converted 220k Citi points to ~$1000 Colesworth eGift card
Ppl say airline points used for business upgrades are often best value.

      • Yeah for flights you'd be aiming for 3-4¢ of value per velocity/qantas point redeeming international business/first class. But then again is it really a 'saving' if you weren't planning on booking business/first class seats to begin with? Not to mention those are the hardest to find sometimes. So you might get more value out of gift cards and buying groceries or an iphone or gift for a loved one instead.

      • Yes, I'd say airline redemptions are the best bet. At that conversion rate, with gift cards you would be getting $500 in value, but paying a $300 annual fee.

  • Bruh they killed this card, used to be 150k points and 7k spend in 3 months.

Luckily we got in before this change.

  • is there a waiting period on this card?

    • Check the thread up above.

  • If you currently hold Citi Rewards card would you still be eligible for this?

  • I won’t be able to meet the spending criteria as I just opened Amex explorer card. In this case, can I buy some gift card and will that count toward the spending amount ?

  • I just closed my Premier card last month (quite literally the same card, just different spend req. and bonus amount). Too soon to apply this month?

    • How long did it take to close the account?

It's been a couple of weeks and mine is still showing as 'open' under credit reporting agencies.

I called and was told there's no issue but it could take several weeks…

  • Seems like another credit card provider is unhappy with churners (I apply 2-4 cards per year in the last 2 years, before I was applying 1-2 cards per year and everything was fine)

"Unfortunately, we've been unable to approve your application.
After assessing your credit application, we've determined that your current circumstances do not satisfy our credit lending criteria for this product."

    • I've churned Virgin Money and Citibank a few times in the past and been rejected by both recently as well. I think this is there way of getting around the no waiting period problem.
