Contact The Good Guys and see if they will honour their 30 day price guarantee in this situation.

Link this thread so they can see how much of their reputation is at stake ;)

      • +1

Thanks lovesabargain77, if it works I stand to reap about $36! The discount last week was provided by PayPal, not The Good Guys, but the link you posted clearly states "any price, online or advertised."

      • +1

would this work if I bought instore in the last week and found a cheaper price online this week?

    • +1

is it a store discount or paypal discount , if its paypal then i would say not

    • Any Gift Cards

    • Did you get a proper receipt with that purchase from the TGG (do TGG ebay shop provide receipts?)? Reason i'm asking is because DSE doesn't seem to provide receipts from their ebay shop….

    • lol … xuc cac

    Here we go again..

        • +11

I was trying to cheer people up. :(

Finding out you could have got 5% better is depressing, for some.

    • good tip. check t&c's, i.e.

Do NOT add products to the ebay wishlist and purchase/bid over 24 hours later.

oops, too late. I'll try to un-add them now

Good one. Beat me to it…

    • Why the neg?

  • +21

    ebay australia getting desperate?

    • Yes!

    • +18

not enough profit from 12% fees

      • +4

they try to squeez every cents out of seller…

try harder, coz they are losing a lot of seller already!

        • +1

Yes. Sellers and buyer got ripped more. Hope we have more choices to buy online.

        • +1

ebay is a massive machine, I've been in their offices. Have to have a lot of small and micro transactions paying for their thousands of employees, network, etc.

Time for a new model, I'd think Paypal is propping up ebay.

    • It looks like the beginning of the end for ebay

  • +64

now we wait and watch the base prices increase

    • +13

I wonder if there is some kind of tracker that keeps a record of prices from these participating stores.

      • +1

I bought a camera the other Sunday which went up about $80 the day after.

    • why would the store increase the price though?

      isn't ebay paying the discount?

      • +2

yes but these shops can increase their profit margins by bumping up the price on sunday and you are duped into thinking that its really 20% off when it might not be… not saying it is but it could happen.

        • did this happen with the 15% deal ?

        • +1

yes. for example when people started buying the gift cards because of the 15% the seller decided to slightly bump up the price.

        • -2

          That's called "supply and demand"…

    • +2

confirmed, all Dicksmith products have increased by 5% since yesterday. woweee

      • where's your evidence?

        • +8

its a forum, no proof required, doubled I say…

        • I have seem dicksmith prices go up significantly. Some of their products are now more expensive on eBay compared to their website.

        • Amazing. If you know even a tiny bit about DSE you'd know that prices on a range of products fluctuate regularly.

        • +1

          @kbk
DS regularly have specials on their own website that are often not on their eBay store.

Just like the current 5% off deal posted on OZbargain.

  • +25

    15% is so yesterday…

    • +7

Nops. It is so last sunday.

        • +4

Now we know who listens to Hillary duff!

        • +4

Obnoxious foreigner? WTH? What are you, an obnoxious racist?

Speaking of subtleties of the English language…ever considered you have missed a few yourself?

I'm pretty sure he/she was making a joke. A funny one at that.

  • woohooo cant wait he he more things i dont need or use lol :)

    • +4

If you dont need or won't use why buy?

      • +33

This is Ozbargain, I don't understand your question?

      • I'm always getting negged for saying this.

By the way Third Gear, I really like your business. Motorcycle gear/parts are usually marked up ridiculously by other Australian distributors, and you are a good alternative to buying from the United States.

        • +1

The motorcycle and car parts industry in Australia is run by bandits, no doubt.

        • Bandits or Banditos?

  • +18

Some prices are higher even after the discount
Power Bank Ebay Kogan: $60 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kogan-Universal-11000mAh-Go-Power…)
Power Bank Kogan website: $45 (http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/universal-11000mah-power-bank/)

      • +6

        Valid from Sunday 29/6

It will be $48 on Sunday, still $3 more if you buy it today @ Kogan's site.

    • +18

The big brands don't really want you to buy from their eBay stores due to extra fees and PayPal protect. Some are fudging their prices.

      • Then whats the point in setting up an eBay store in the first place? They can very well sell from their webstores without paying fees.

        • +5

Exposure. Their items show up when people do a search on eBay.

        • Correct…

    • So it's Sunday and showing $46 on ebay before discount. Either they read this or were slow at updating their website.

How about you give them a chance on the day?

  • +1

My 25% discounted prepaid visa cards will come handy here.

    • How?

      • +1

        From a previous eBay promotion

      • +33

The same way that money in your bank account will come in handy.

        • So you will use prepaid visa to pay for this purchase?

        • I am assuming they can be used through PayPal. I have never tried it before. It's best I do some testing before the big frenzy.

  • looks good, thanks OP

  • I want to buy an Apple macbook pro with a good spec for development. Would it be a better deal buying form here than waiting for Mayer to reduce and then buy with discounted gift cards.
Which retailer would be better to buy from on ebay? Not sure if Good Guys sell apples.

    • +1

Not many, if any?, ebay big box stores stock the macbook. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I'd like to grab one too.

      • Can't see any Macs on DSE

    • +1

Same. Deciding whether to jump on the DSE/David Jones 11%, go refurbished, or see if there's anything better around. $2900 is still a lot for a laptop.

    • Yes they do.

    • they will likely not have any low margin listings on the day, or just a few to get people excited about it.

  • +5

Provided Dicky don't pull them out, there's huge savings on a number of Apple products.

    • +39

If it's Dick Smiths, you can be sure they will pull off a Dick move and completely shaft the customer.

      • +5

This will also come in handy.

      • +6

knowing DS employees they will probably palm you off leaving you feeling blue therefore ensuring an anti-climatic transaction

      • +1

and stick it up their customer's butt

      • Better get the oil ready gentlemen lol

    • Buy it now and pay it on Sunday like the other guys did with the gift cards.

      • Are you sure this will work?

Im looking for a SuperCheap tool kit that has a special until June 28!
        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Stanley-Tool-Kit-132-Piece-/20107…?

Can I really buy on Saturday night, June 28 and pay using the code on Sunday morning at 10am???

        • I didn't buy it myself but there were comments in the previous deal indicating that. Worst comes to worst you cancel the purchase and proceed with a new purchase on Sunday. You will know if the code works before you pay with paypal.

        • +2

You can't cancel as you like on eBay :(

        • I bought an item thru bidding two days before last Sunday deal.. And didn't pay at that time, and come Sunday as it was still in my cart the 15 percent discount applied on that too… Win win!

        • In saying that, the missus bought gift cards last Sunday just before midnight and the invoice showed the right amount but since paypal required her to update her password midnight ticked over and the discount dropped off.

So you think it will work?

I can't recall where or when you enter the code?

If it's ebay then it may not work, but if it's paypal there is a chance!

  • I will look for smartphone this time. Missed in last sale. Did not want import grey products.

  • CRAZY SUNDAY II

  • +2

It's 'sad' to see eBay is trying its best to survive, but it just can't.

    • +5

I can't see much of a problem with the future of eBay. They may not be the biggest internet shop now, but it'll be around for a while still. Perhaps they'll downsize, perhaps they'll charge less fees.

Also, don't forget eBay owns many other alternatives to it, including Gumtree.

      • +2

ebay has already started downsizing, they shut down ebay China site in 2006 in response to the hugely popular taobao site

        • +4
          1. thanks for the recent news..
        • -2

Taobao has a live chat system and when my gf sells stuff on it she claims she doesn't even need to pay fees like eBay does. I'm not chinese so i can't read chinese or anything so I want to know if my gf is full of shit so i can smack her over the head because someone on the internet said she was wrong?

Quick I got my spiked stick here ready to use.

        • @spn Google translate

        • There is no fee whatsoever to sell or buy on Taobao, but if you want your ad appears on homepage, it cost a lot.

I READ THIS SOMEWHERE, During its sale "11,11" (11th Nov) last year, it recorded $60million Aud sale in one day, which is equivalent to eBay AU's sale for a year.
