    Mention $99 after 20% discount

  • anyone know if it's one of the thicker ones or skinny?

    • +1

I think thicker, the thinner ones are mentioned in their title

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251506406012

I saw this before, but would rather pay the little extra for the Seagate from TheGoodGuys. Toshiba drives from what I have heard and experienced are pretty terrible.

      • i should have worded that better, i meant was it normal thick and not really chunky like some other ones. the poster below points to it being the regular size, which is just fine.

        • its the portable 2.5 hard disk. not 3.5 external hard disk with external power adapter. so definitely thin but not as thin as the seagate from the thegoodguys. 99aud for 2 tb is very cheap.

        • +4

Seagate 2TB Expansion Portable HDD $114.40 delivered using same discount code from The Good Guys. Its the one containing the Samsung 9.5mm drive suitable for removal and use in other devices.

          Teardown Video

        • What's the Coupon Code to be used for Seagate 2TB Expansion Portable HDD to get the price to $114.40 ?

        • +1

Seriously you dont know whats the coupon, its all the same CBIGTREAT.
Spponfeeding surely works for you :D

        • I think this one is actually the 9.5mm drive: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Seagate-2505233-2TB-Backup-Plus-S… , I'm pretty sure the other seagate drive posted above is a larger width.

        • +3

Both expansion portable and backup plus slim use the exact same drive. See teardown video I linked to above.

No point buying the more expensive backup plus if your just going to remove the drive.

        • LoL — Thanks !!!

          Ordered ..

        • Cheers for this post! :D

        • Thanks just ordered 2 of them for $228 lol

      i think this is right.

  • +1

i own one and just bought another one before the op post this, the size is small but not the slim version, it is really small just like any other branded portable hdd

  • I'm looking to buy an external HDD for my settop box but it only has USB 2.0. Would this work on my settop box?

    • +2

      definitely. usb 2.0 compatible

      • Thanks mate

  • Guys, looking for a wireless HDD. 2-3TB? Any suggestions?

  • +4

Toshiba hard drives apparently has higher failure rates, I would go with this one for $14 more, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Western-Digital-WDBU6Y0020BBK-PE-…
or the seagate one posted above.

    • -3

when you say $14 more — is there a coupon code to be used??

from what i see this HDD is listed for $138 - thats $40 more ..

      • The Good Guys is apart of the sale so you can use this code

      • I've been using 2 of these Toshiba drives for the last 12 months with no problems at all.

      • I think the biggest deal this week may have slipped by you unnoticed?

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150374

    • Kanasuke or anyone - do you know if the WD hard drive is compatible with MacBook pro?

      • My WD Passport Ultra 2TB works with MacBook Pro.

  • Playstation 4 for 423.20 or $412.62 with the 2% referral bonus ain't bad either.

Though TBH I think a $450 Destiny pack by Christmas isn't out of the question.

  • You can get a Western Digital one (Elements or Passport) from TheGoodGuys with the same discount for maybe 20-30$ more (Passport 2TB = ~122$).

  • +2

If you don't mind plugging via AC, this Seagate is 3TB and only 109 after the eBay code.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Seagate-Expansion-3TB-Desktop-Har…

    • Just bought two, nice price

    • We bought 2 too. Only 1 year warranty. Hope they last.

      • IMHO they will last around 367 days. If you keep it running 24/7 then it may last longer, however with every day on/off a couple times per day then it will struggle after a year. The enclosure does not allow good ventilation to exhaust any heat.

        • +1

mine didn't even last that long… 6 or 7 months at most.

But I had 2 choices send back for warranty replacement and accept the data was gone… or crack open the enclosure therefore voiding the warranty and trying the age old freezer trick but at least having a chance of getting my data.

          It didn't work

          all data was lost.

The enclosure still works with another drive I had laying around though.

        • +1

If you dont drop the thing it will last at least 6 years or longer the less you use it.

lifespan of over 25,000 drives tested running 24/7 came up with a median 6 years for most hard drives.

          http://www.pcworld.com/article/2062254/25-000-drive-study-sh…

  • I don't know about cheapest ever, we were paying less a few years back. Also not sure how ebay became a "local store". In any event, as a few others have noted, be cautious, Toshiba drives do have a higher failure rate than a WD (or even a Seagate).

    • +2

Its a local store because its dick smith.

  • Any core i5 laptop for less than $500 ?

  • +2

Nobody has mentioned this laptop yet.

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251537…

$480 reduced from $900 (33% off before the coupon on the dick smith website. Ticks all the features that I like in a laptop that usually cost around the $700 to $900 range.

    1080p screen
i5 with no graphics card (better for battery life as far as I know)
14" (more reasonable size than the usual 15.6" imo)
toshiba satellite is a quality brand
gigabit ethernet (not always standard these days)

    • +1

      where does it say 1080p?

    • 14" HD Widescreen Display

      Does that mean 1080p?

      • +2

No, 720p is called HD. 1080p is FHD

    • +2

14" HD Widescreen with LED Backlit Display mean 1366 X 768. So no, this is not 1080p.

      • Yeah you guys are right, I got my models mixed up as I was searching through them. Not 1080p

    • Thanks, no graphics card kills it for me though.

      • Although only 1366 x 768 still good on a 14' screen, and the HD 4400 is not too shabby either for the non gamer/Graphics hungry user. For a Toshi with 4th Gen. i5, for $480 delivered and from an Aussy B & M store, this today is a great bargain.

        • Whoever negged can you explain why?

      • it's a Toshiba = poor build, loud fans, high fail rate… no thanks

    • How can you go wrong with this? Better to get this rather than a NUC. This has i5U CPU unfortunately but so does NUC.

    • What about this for 720 AUD after code? 8GB RAM, i7 4th gen and NVIDIA gt820m 2GB. I'm broke already btw :(

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASUS-15-6-F550LD-X0225H-W8-NB-/25…

  • I bought a Samsung S5 and a Seagate 2TB NAS.

    • What was the price of the Galaxy S5 after all discounts?

      • My price was $692 but it could have been a bit cheaper via cash rewards.

  • +2

The Chromebook (Toshiba) comes to $279.20 with the code (free shipping). Seems the cheapest I've seen it for so far, anyone seen it cheaper?

    • +2

I grabbed a Chromebook a few months ago for a look in, and am impressed with the ease and speed of Chrome O/S combined with the new Haswel chip. Great battery life, makes a great second mobile machine, or just leave it sleeping on the coffee table till you need to surf the net.

  • Just bought the 3gig one <3 seems good

  • How do the prices compare to the 20% off DSE which was 10 days ago? Anything standing out?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/148790

Was hoping to get a Chromecast but none there.

  • +5

    Very dodgy DSE

Was $80 just a 2 days before sales ( I had been watching and int ending to buy one) but now increased to $100

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/3573fido9uvbalq/dick%20smith%20pri…

    • +2

So what, the sale ended days before this sale.

Why didn't you buy it with the 15% off?

Seems that the real issue here is that you procrastinated too long and missed out.

      • A sale that went on for more than 2 weeks ever since the product was put on the store, then suddenly 1-2 days before the 20% off sale increased to $100? hmmmmm

By the way, I missed out on nothing. After 20% off it still comes down to $80. The only thing you missed out on was addressing the actual issue.

        • +1

I agree with Maverick-au, if it was part of a sale which ended 1-2 days ago, that doesn't necessarily mean DS is being dodgy. So what if it was on sale for 2 weeks before and a day before the 20% off offer the sale ended? Sales start and end at different times, and there are plenty of reduced items on the DS ebay page which haven't gone up in price.

What Maverick-au was also saying is there was a 15% off code so you could have gotten it for 15% off $80 = $68.

  • Bought a Mivue 388….

  • Is this code apply to other item too?

  • Acer Aspire p3-131-60GB Tablet Silver $399 After ebay's 20% off deal and $99 cashback from Acer

  • Thanks, I bought g400s and 2TB Toshiba portable HDD.

  • Just Purchased ASUS 15.6" S551LN-CJ202H W8 NB for 799 AUD. Thought it was a good deal ! Thank you OzB.

  • Bit the bullet and bought the Navman mivue.

  • got the 2TB toshiba and the stupid pioneer $8 headphones -_-

    • Why stupid? Maybe because their white? Maybe not a top seller, but pioneer give you a good sound ( bass heavy ) for your money. Just because this model got lost in a sea of headphones does not make them bad. When you listen to them, you will be somewhat surprised for under $50 sets.

      • lol go easy

stupid because i don't need them yet i wasted money on them.. i doubt it'll be fulfilled though

        • +4

In that case its not the headphones that are stupid :/

        • yup.. bloody ozbargain!

  • I bought a Logitech Z130 speaker for 17.63 AUD after the code. I think its a bargain as Amazon's price is 18 USD with 4 star rating.

Have you guys items been dispatched yet? I bought the logitech G400S gaming mouse, in ebay activity, it still not showing posted. Same as Kogan group buy iphone 5S. Any idea?

    • I too have not received my mouse. I purchased mine 2 weeks ago and was notified delivery to be 7th July. I've contacted seller twice but have not heard back. I was pretty sure DSE was a reputable company and this wasn't a dodgy deal.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

      • Ordered 2 items (keyboard + the g400s mouse) on the 30th June.
Received the keyboard the very next day via courier.
The mouse wasn't part of it so I gave them a ring and DSE said it'll be ready by the Friday (4th).

Rang on the 4th, and they said the mouse is on Backorder till the following Friday (11th). The DSE warehouse is a seperate division to the B&M stores so theres no chance of just walking into a store and picking one up.

That being said, the ebay listing of the G400S mouse is rubbish as it still shows as limited quantity available. The delivery estimated date has moved out from 4 days to 11 days and is probably the best indicator of when they will get stock in.

      • i'm still waiting for my g400s too. DSE replied to a query on ebay stating the item is on backorder and new stock should be coming next week. pretty poor, took 2 queries on ebay before they said anything.

    • I too am waiting for it to be marked as shipped. Got a message today after I asked them about it last week. They said they should have more stock in the next few days so hopefully it will get it shipped then.

Really though, this seems pretty typical of DSE (and many Aussie retailers)…
It's shouldn't be hard to just allocate a certain amount of stock to their ebay store and only list that many as being available on the ebay ad. They always seem to list way more stock than they actually have on hand, and seem to rely on drop shipping too much :(

      • Email and invoice from Dick Smith just came in today, they now have the stock and will most likely be dispatching them today. 17 days…

        • That is way too long and it looks like this happens with a lot of items sold on the Dick Smith ebay store (just look at their recent negative/neutral feedback). Pretend to have stock then make customers wait several weeks just to post the thing…

I'm still waiting for my G400s to be shipped!
