        • Thank you both for the information.

        • +1

ING gives free bank cheque, unless you want express delivery, and it comes in snail mail so if you need to plan in advance.

    • +10

Get store to split into 301 paywave payments of $99.67. Receive $1500 back into ING Account.

      • Lol. But there are daily limits on debit cards? Hence my original question.

        • +1

It's a debit card but you can still press credit, which wont really have any limits apart from what you have in your account. Depends where you are buying from, some places will have a surcharge for paying with a card.

        • Oh I didn't know that! So the daily limit imposed by banks really only applies to withdrawals (ATM/EFTPOS) rather than spending amount? Meaning if I had $30k in my bank account, I could use my debit card to pay for the item up to $30k using the credit option (+ surcharge)?

Then what is the difference between cheque, savings, and credit options when paying by card? I normally carry cash around and one reason is because I'm such a noobie with card transactions (see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/144403).

        • +1

That's right, if you press savings or cheque there is a limit which is tiny, if you use credit there's not really a limit but some retailers will apply a surcharge if you press Credit.

        • Thanks. Mind=blown.

        • +2

          It's a paywave, you don't press anything :P

      • ING has a system that checks for such transactions. I've read of this being done previously and customers either getting a warning or in worse cases losing their account.

        • +1

I just purchase 200 bux worth of stuff from woolies last week and the transaction was broken up in 3 and I just go my 5% back for each transaction. So don't see why not eh?

    • Ask someone to bring a bag full of cash if you are not willing to do that ;)

  • Damn, unfortunately I linked my supperannuation to my account so it isn't exactly trivial for me to close and reopen an account. I've done it before though and it worked back then.

    • Just deposit $1,000 from any source, cash deposit at the post office or online transfer from another account. You don't need to link any accounts.

      • lol, maybe didn't explain myself well enough. I am already a customer but am not able to cancel my bank account and reapply for one (to be eligible for this offer) easily.

  • +1

i still havnt got an ING account - bad Ozb'er

waiting for a killer 'new customers only' deal

    • +5

OzB'er never waits..they grab the opportunity that comes in….

      • basically stuck using my amex for points. if i get this ill be torn between which one to use

  • I had ING account before, but I cancelled a while ago. Can I enjoy this promotion? Cheers!

    • +1

      I cancelled a while ago

How much is 'awhile'? If 'awhile' is at least 6 months, I'd give this promo a try.

      • Thanks for replying. I only cancelled in early April. Maybe I will wait for next promotion ;)

  • +2

Can you deposit cash at a branch?

    • +4

They have no branches. You can deposit cash via Australia Post.

      • neither does citibank but you can deposit @ NAB

        cheers

    • You can go to any bank branch your with and do a funds transfer to any account in the world. That is kinda their thing ;)

  • Does it say anywhere how long it would take before you get the bonus once you have made the deposit?

Had a look but can't seem to see any info on this.

    • +2

      It's in the fine print

"The $75 bonus payment offer is limited to one account per customer (including joint accounts) and will be credited to your Orange Everyday within a reasonable period of time after conditions of the offer as stated above have been satisfied"

What a 'reasonable period of time' is though is up for debate.

      • +2

thanks for bring this to my attention, indeed it's interesting wording.

  • +1

realised only LIMITED retails has 5% payback benefit when I looked at ING website.

  • +1

Orange everyday accounts have any fees associated with them?
    Account keeping and/or withdrawals?

    • would like to know this too

      • +1

2.5% fee on international purchases hmm

        • +2

Don't use ING Orange Everyday for international purchases, it's better to use 28 degrees Mastercard or BankWest Zero as they have no foreign exchange fees.

For overseas ATM withdrawals, use Citibank Plus as they have no foreign ATM withdrawal fees, although using Orange for this and incurring a flat $2.50 is one of the better options out there.

        • +2

It doesn't have to be your only card.

        • yeah i do have a citibank plus account.. pretty sure it has no fee for international purchases too.. i think? never really bothered to check

    • +4

      No account keeping fees.
They refund you the ATM fee if you withdraw $200 or more, otherwise you pay the ATM fee as it's from another bank.
They also PAY YOU $0.50 if you withdraw $200 or more via EFTPOS (shops) as it saves them paying ATM fees for you.

  • +1

Oh hell. I just realised I haven't been getting the rebates! They cut them off two months after I got the card, probably cause they realised I'd had an account before. :(

    • +2

Be thankful you received 2 months worth then :)

      • Yeah just wish I'd realised earlier and started using my Jetstar card again.
Trying to get my wife to sign up with ING now, haha. :)

  • Can the account be closed the following month? This is free $75?

    • +5

Yes. You can close after you got your $75.

However, why would you wanna do that? You are getting 5% off anything bought on PayPass.

      • +3

        $99.99 or less

  • I got a similiar offer last week emailed to me from ING.

The offer was a $250 gift voucher instead of $75 cash.

Also can anyone confirm the requirements. It says transfer pay but the fine details say pay is any funds from an outside source. Could I just transfer money from an exernal bank account and meet the conditions?

  • is the savings maximiser any good @ 4.35% for 4 months?

    • +1

      I think that's pretty high

    • +4

VERY good but after the 4 months are up, put your savings in Ubank.

      • hmm.. the transactions account?

    • Usaver with Ultra is higher and not capped by 4 months

  • +1

Thanks OP, I've been putting it off getting one of these, now is the time!

  • Gah I'm 18 in 2 months and I can't get this.

    • Ok random downvote.

      • +2

        How rude.

  • can i just deposit the $1000 in and remove it the next day and still get the $75 bonus?

    • +2

probably best to wait til the $75 appears mate

    • +3

Yes, you can. My wife put in $2000 into her account and transferred it out on the following day. She got her $50 last week already!

      • Thanks. Just the answer I was looking for. Going to open my account now and put in $1000 and take it out in 2 days. Cheers :)

  • I thought I would try my luck and ask for the bonus for my account opened 2 weeks ago. No dice.

    • let us know how you go with that

      • +2

Sorry I wasn't clear. I got a response basically saying 'No'

  • So this wouldn't work if I opened a saving maximiser account with them?

    • +1

Nope, a Maximiser (High Interest) is different to a Savings (transactional - no interest) account.

  • +13

A few years back, I remember opening an Orange everyday savings and a cheque account - and I got $50 deposited into each - I bought a bike from Kmart for $100 - a FREE freaking bike !!
Still got 2 accounts and 1 bike.

  • Is this suppose to appear in the "Participating Offers" section if you have signed up for it?

  • Opened my account just 6 days ago. So annoyed =(

  • For some stupid reason they won't accept Australian Drivers License or Birth Certificate for Victorians…I don't have a passport so I guess I'm stuck going in person.

  • So if I open joined account would I get $75 twice?

    • +1

no such luck I'm afraid but I love the way you think…;)

    • +2

No, your partner would spend it ;-)

  • My wife just opened one last week and activated it yesterday. Would she also be able to claim this offer if she deposit $1000 in the account before the specified date? don't think she saw this deal when she applied.

    • Nope unfortunately. If she didn't register her details before opening the account, she will not qualify for the $75 but will still get the 5% PayPass rebate.

  • +1

Does the 5% really add up?

    • +1

      Oh hell yes!

Depending on your spending patterns, it can easily add up. A friend of mine made almost a $1,000 out of it in 6 months!

    • +1

Well I spend about $100 on groceries every week. That is $5 per week for six months = $130. It is not that great, but it makes me feel like everything is discounted :)

  • +1

Does atm withdrawals of over $200 also for free from those generic atms found in pubs and RSL's?

    • +1

Says ANY ATM, didn't see any exceptions.

    • +2

ANY ATM in Australia is free to use if you withdraw at least $200 at a time. No exceptions.

  • Just sign up for every day account but didn't realise you need to first enter your detail. I entered my detail stright after open the account. Am I still in??

"To receive the $75 bonus you must be a new Orange Everyday customer and first register your details below."

    • oh true… i did the same… hmmm….. hopefully that isn't the case

    • I think you answered your own question ;)

Technically, you are not eligible but I suggest you give them a call and beg :)

      • +3

Just called CS said there is no problem and I can received $75 bonus

  • -1

    What timing!

Just got a $10K balance transferred on 'zero' balance credit card (at 0% for 12 months). Now this card has $10K available to spend in the next 12 months… so this 5% cashback deal during first 6 months (which was the major sweetener for me than the $75 bonus offer) is going to be wasted anyway. Shame! Do not plan to jump on ING bandwagon this time around… may be next year…

    • +3

That makes no sense to me

      • -1

Not at all, what a confusing thinking thread.

    • Anyone care to explain why it is confusing thinking? To me it's like getting a one year interest free loan of $10K saving me interest with the same money sitting in my offset account.

      • +2

It's not confusing - it's straight forward. You've done well

  • +1

This deal is always so revered by all Oz Bargainers. Can someone pls clarify why exactly? Is it really saving you LOADS, or is it a whole lot of malarky to just save 5% off ~$100 purchases for a 6-month time frame? Sorry if I haven't got the finer details yet. Can someone pls gimme a practical example of $$'s saved?

    • +2

Well I got ~$600 cashback for my last 6mths of paywave. The more you spend the more you save (my wife liked that idea - she kept telling me how much money we had saved by buying things!)

    • +1

Considering how many ppl takes up the fuel docket deal just to save 4cents per litre, $5 for every $100 is a wayyyyy better deal.
