    • Yes, compare to other retailers are selling, this is a bargain for a potential buyer or even an impulsive purcahse or for resell.

  • Holy shit! AMAZING DEAL!

  • +6

Anyone who purchased from google play using a 28 degree master card, it is time to get the difference back! :D

    • how?

      • +6

        SHOPPER'S PROTECTION INSURANCE
Price Protection means never having to miss out on the sales again. If you buy something with your 28 Degrees MasterCard and you see its dropped in price at the same retailer anytime in the first 6 months after you bought it, we’ll pay the difference in price back onto your card. So the more you claim the more you can save.

DAMNIT, I bought mine in Feb, so I miss out by a month :(

        • +1

          Owned.

        • But, there is one problem, should have the insurance activated which is 0.5% of closing balance. so missed out :-(

        • +1

When I buy electronic devices (especially phones) I am almost always eligible for a price difference claim in 6 months, that's just the nature of consumer electronics :D

        • Am sorry, what I don't understand is, are you eligible without paying the insurance? I also paid using 28 degrees card. But no protection insurance. Am I eligible too? Please suggest.

        • I don't think so if you don't have the insurance actiavated

        • Only if bought in Australia. Does it covers Google Play?

  • -1

Bought 2 to use as portable hard drives, thanks OP

    • +3

      Hopefully you're not being serious…
Apart from the obvious price/Gb issue, the Nexus 4 is MTP only, so not a great storage device.

      • +6

Any quote "Bought X…thanks OP" is considered to be a joke here :)

      • Really? That kind of sucks. The whole point of Android is to be able to move files off and on easily.

        • +2

No, the whole point of android is to get us all using Google services all day everyday so they can sell more ads.

        • +2

No, the whole point of android is to show Apple the middle finger and that consumer electronics can be useful without being restrictive.

        • No the whole point of android which is open source is to attract more people to use their services (ads) on various android portable devices from different phone makers and in return Google will make more $$$. Google is the ultimate winner behind Android not Samsug no HTC not Sony……They are the evil but we still thank them for bringing Android (because of the cheap phones) including myself lol.

        • Well Google and Samsung.

  • Is it still $20 for shipping?

    • +1

Yes. Still $19.95 shipping. Just bought one. AMAZING price. Thanks OP

      • +18

the new iphone will be fantastic…. probably a dual core 1.4 ghz and $200 more than the best phone currently available

        • yeah fair enough

        • -5

you could always run ios on an android phone… you'd get much better value for $

        • "you could always run ios on an android phone…"
          Are you sure about that?

        • -1

          No

      • Let's hope Crapple actually come up with a new design instead of keeping that same lame look they've had all these years!

        • -3

          "Crapple"
I see you're overflowing with originality. Idiot.

        • +4

As original as apple putting an 'i' in front of everything

        • somebody doesn't understand branding.

      • Still, I don't like the iTunes app.

  • +2

Can we use telstra credit on play store to pay this?

  • How does this compare to a galaxy s2? My only dislike for this phone is the lack of sd card slot

    • +21

      Shits ALL over it.

    • +2

Much better cpu, gpu, premium solid build. Better battery life, camera, performance, display, get updates quicker and for longer.

No microsd slot, nonremovable battery, much more fragile than the S2(get a case)

      (^What he said.)

      • What case would you recomend?

    • +1

I'd be tempted if you can live with only 16Gb.
Although, I'd be more tempted to wait for the Nexus 5 assuming it's at the $399 pricepoint that the Nexus 4 used to be.
S2 is still a pretty capable handset.

    • nexus 4 is comparable more to a GS3 than a GS2

      • Thanks for the replies guys, does it support USB on the go too?

        • +1

          Not really.
You need a special USBOTG adapter that allows for an external power adapter as the usb connector on the phone doesn't supply 5v.
AND you need a hacked kernel to activate USBOTG. The stock kernel doesn't support it even if you do have the appropriate adapter.

        • +1

bummer, I'm too lazy for all that hacked kernal stuff, If this is the standard "google" phone and they can't provide USB OTG even though the hardware is capable of it they are either lazy or simply cutting features out of base models so they can charge for them in high end models. Hate to say it but -1 for google (even though I do like this phone).

        • Except this is their high end model

    • +5

An S2 is still an amazing handset and does everything a Nexus 4 does (+ SD Card … I run a 64GB card in there.). It also runs the latest Android Version - Samsung updates were pretty good (nice to see that they support a handset longer).

Nexus 4 will be faster but I would see no point to upgrade. When I would buy a new one … Nexus 4 would be my choice … but upgrading … not worth it in my opinion. When you can get a well priced S2 … it is still a very nice phone.

      • +2

        I agree.
I wouldn't upgrade unless there were hardware issues.
If it's feeling sluggish, do a factory reset.

        • Thanks for the feedback guys, it's about 2 years old so I might try that.

      • By 'latest Android Version' which version do you mean?

        • 4.3

        • Official release? Because afaik the latest official is 4.1 or 4.2

Originally, the Samsung Galaxy S2 was believed to be getting Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and stopping there. Then, rumors suggested that Samsung was having issues with TouchWiz and that it would not be issuing Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S2.

          http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/08/27/android-4-2-update-b…

I ended up using SuperNexus (A v4.3) on mine :D

        • Yea I think 4.1 is the latest for the S2. I didn't read the comment to which you were replying to and thought you were just asking what is the latest version of android.

        • Sorry … you are correct … it is "only" 4.1.2 which I got … so not really the latest. I was already happy to get this (too many updates and versions in android world). But it is still Jelly Bean :-). (I am not such a geek … so I thought there is only one Jelly Bean Version … oops … my bad)

      • I have an SGS2 as well but does not compare to a Nexus4.

Also SGS2 does not and will not get the latest android (JB 4.2.x+) as Samsung stopped at 4.1.2. Using 4.2.x/4.3.x CyanogenMod builds are buggy as hell especially because Samsung hasn't made any new drivers to the Mali CPU.

  • From owning this phone for the last 3 months after having an iPhone 5, some views:

    Negatives:
The camera is atrocious compared to the iphone 5. Autofocus is poor, photos appear washed out.
Battery life is also pretty bad
    No removable battery life
    No micro sd conversion

    Positives:
    Quick
Fast and frequent software updates - solved a screen flash problem i had.
    Cheap.

All in all though, a bargain. However bear in mind your resale value.. If you intend on selling it in the near future, any price difference at sale would be lost in resale value compared to an iPhone.

    • +17

since when the iPhone 5 has:
      No removable battery life
      No micro sd conversion

      • +3

Perhaps a more appropriate comparison to a galaxy s4 rather than an iPhone.

        • +1

          So would be the price…

        • +2

The 64Gb iphone is already $999, the 128gb will most likely be $1099

          Holy moly

    • Battery life is pretty great, similar to the S3.

    • If you intend on selling it in the near future, any price difference at sale would be lost in resale value compared to an iPhone.

I don't think so, it's already $250 for the 8GB model. Even the Galaxy s2 is selling for more than this.

    • +1

The camera I haven't found to be anything astounding, true .. but battery life on my N4 is fine.

Also, if you are comparing with iphone5, you haven't mentioned what the N4 has over it .. such as wireless charging and NFC.

Anyone price match HN? Mmmmmm. Instant gratification….. drool

    • +1

+1 very tempted if I can get a local price match.

    • +1

Seems HN no longer sell it. Out of stock.

      • Yeh. Managed to find stock in VIC, but regional stores only - Moe, Ballarat, Bendigo. Good luck to anyone out that way!

  • +4

While some are speculating that this could be a run out sale before a new model, an alternate theory is that it is a pre-emptive strike against a potential new "lower cost" iPhone model rumoured to be announced in the next fortnight…

    • +11

'lower cost' in apple world isnt this cheap ;)

      • My guess would be $399 for us. $350 for US.

        • +1

My guess it will match the current iPhone 4 price of AUD$449. (With 4 & 4S, and possibly even 5 dropped)

    • -1

      That's why I'll be waiting.

    • +1

      second that.

Apple has stopped innovating for a while and so their competitors have a chance to catch up.
Now they are no longer have a clear lead.
There will be a point where they have to compete on price.
I think that point is late this year / early next year.
I reckon Apple knows that too.
whether they start competing this year or next year, we will have to wait and see.

Worst phone I ever bought. Paid 400 for it from Google, had the screen broken in a week from a small drop. Google asked me for 300 to fix it, I had insurance for anything bought on my credit card, which fixed it for free. Then two weeks later, My girl and I went to a pool, and put the phone in a locker, we came back to the screen looking like it was pounded in. Weakest glass and LCD ever, lucky someone was willing to pay 90 bucks for it on the second break. Never buy a LG product ever again.

    • +5

I am an Android fan and user but LG smartphone sucks. ASUS and HTC and Samsung is rocking so far.

    • +1

Same thing happened to me, wife broke the screen in the first month and she had no idea how it happened. I didn't have any cc insurance so bought a screen off the ebay for $110 and fixed it myself after seeing a DIY video from youtube. So far going alright after 6 months but I will definitely agree that the screen is exposed from all sides in case of a fall and has no protection around it.
Never going to buy a LG phone again.

    • +5

I'll counter that with an LG Optimus Black.
While it's quite outdated now, I can't get rid of mine.
I honestly wish it would just die so I could replace it, the hardware is so old than any recently updated apps are just too much for it.
It bounces when dropped from 2m. It has a couple of scratches but refuses to smash or die. Tougher than a fucken Nokia.

    • Personally I'm a bit biased against LG having noticed a few issues with them in the past - dead rows of pixels on a monitor 12 months after purchase, a leaking fridge (delivered and installed) and the girlfriend and her father both have cheapo LG Android's that like to spontaneously drop phone calls &/or turn themselves off on occasion.

I'm not concerned about the non-removable battery or the lack of an SD slot, its the LG logo on that Nexus that concerns me. LG definitely locked in for the 5? Would be nice if they had a couple of manufacturers building the Nexus, e.g. like computer hardware.
