Bought one. Delivery cost at $19.95 to make the whole thing $318.95 with $29 GST which you can claim back via TRS (going overseas end of next month). Thanks @Hessian! I have been thinking of getting one from HN for the last 2 weeks to replace my wife's dead Incredible S, and this price drop has just compelled me to pull the trigger.

    • Scott, is it 2 months from purchase date to claim trs?

      • +2

        Yes

        • -4

          Wrong info - Thanks neggers

        • +3

Travellers can claim through the tourist refund scheme on purchases made up to 60 days before leaving Australia (under old regulations they had 30 days). This will apply to sales made on or after 17 April 2013.

        • I bought a Nexus 10 last year from google last year and the invoice is made out from google with address from S'pore. Because of that, I can't get a GST refund, so I am not sure whether others managed to get it back.

        • @stargalaxy

You need to email them for a Tax Invoice.

        • @ozhunter : Thanks for the clarification; i too was worried when i saw the item is actually 'purchased' from Google Asia Pac (Singapore address). So i gather you got your tax invoice from them? Sorry to bother, but which email did you use? or just reply to the email of the order?

        • I'm also really interested.

I'll buy this headphones to reach the 300$ limit

        • +3
        • Well even after all the emailing to get the tax invoice in the required format TRS declined telling that they will NOT give the refund because it is a print out and that many people are using the print outs. When I started an argument, the lady just said that they were given instructions not to give out refunds for the google invoice and that if I had an issue I could write to claim it.

End result did not get the refund although my invoice had GST and Google ABN.

    • Can you claim the shipping fee? The service already delivered. $299 will not be enough for TRS.

      • From their website , http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4646.asp

"as long as each is a valid tax invoice from the one Australian Business Number retailer and the total value of goods purchased is $300 or more (including GST)."

I guess does 'shipping' classify as part of 'goods'? But my concern now is obtaining the "valid tax invoice". Has anyone actually managed to get a proper tax invoice from them before? If so how?

Regardless, even if doesn't qualify for TRS, still a damn good deal!

    • 1st. Shipping should be excluded from TRS which makes you ineligible for the claim
2nd. Good luck getting a formal tax invoice from Google !

      • Since the GST component they show is $29 it is quite obvious that they included the shipping fee in the calculation. (318.95/11 = 28.995454) As such your tax invoice will be over the threshold - if you manage to get one. That second point will be of interest.

This is a ridiculously good price. The only issue (if you can really call it an issue)with this phone is the average camera performance, otherwise stella deal.

  • Damn, just bought a S3 LTE from UM for 450.

Should of wait and got this instead, as I don't need LTE and micro sd.

Maybe I should sell my s3 and get this instead.

    • Should of wait and got this instead, as I don't need LTE and micro sd.
Maybe I should sell my s3 and get this instead.

      I would.

    • What do you want to sell the S3 for ?

I'd rather have a micro SD slot.

      • For 150 bucks in his pocket over a relatively pointless USD slot

  • I am thinking this would be a great buy for parent looking for a new phone as it will get all the security updates etc. Just wondering though, how does the font scaling on android go? Currently using a 3.5" screen with 480x320 resolution and their only worry is that the text on messages etc will appear tiny. Is anyone able to comment on whether the larger, higher resolution screen would make fonts smaller? Thanks for any help.

      • comment on whether the larger, higher resolution screen would make fonts smaller? *
        No, it scales fine.
      • Thanks for that, glad to hear it. Also, are font sizes adjustable in android? I am a meego/win phone user so haven't been on the android starship in a while.

        • +2

Had to look it up, but it appears yes..
Display - Font Size (options in Cyanogenmod are Small, Normal, Large and Huge)

A good price but personally, i'd spend $88 more (or less once you account for play store delivery costs) for the LG Optimus G from JB and get

    +LTE
    +16GB Storage
    +FM Radio
    +5MP on camera
    +Miracast dongle if youre lucky.

    • +1

      And more screen size.
Nexus loses ~5mm at the bottom of screen for navigation buttons.

    • Plus usb on the go. Plus the awesome see through multitasking functionality.

      • +1

I'm pretty sure LGOG suffers from the same USBOTG issue as the Nexus 4.
You need external power cause the microUSB port doesn't supply any.

        • +1

After doing some research some places say there is support but the actual truth is that it apparently doesn't. Most concerning was a review clearly stating that it has it…

        • Been using the LG Optimus G since the first JB Hifi deal. I love it!

Better than my HTC One (in my opinion) and I'm patiently waiting on more information on the Aus release of the LG G2.

    • +1

Only 3 reason why I didn't buy the Optimus G:

-LTE = City only ATM, pointless where I live…(I've read LTE on the N4 can be enabled…)
-JBHifi's LG Optimus G is a Telstra model, 850Mhz only, and the 900Mhz from Kogan says 2-3weeks dispatch then 3-5 days until I finally get it…
-Lastly No 4.2 update on the list with the G2 coming, so I don't get to taste the latest fruits…

      • I think you mean latest sweets

        • yep anything sweet with a fruity flavour… lol

  • +1

Still using my Nexus 4 no decrease in performance, unlike the nexus 7.

    • +2

4.3 update fixes the decrease in performance, but imo Tegra 3 kinda sucks.

    • i thought it was only me?

  • +5

Great phone, great price. Sold my 16GB for $330 the other week. Score. :D

    • not really if you bought it $400 before :)

      • +2

Bought it used a year ago for $360. ;)

  • does google sell the white nexus 4?

    • I believe that was a Harvey Norman exclusive.

  • Darn. I bought my Nexus 4 on 30 Jan 2013. It's out of 6 month window where I can claim the 28 Degree Price Protection Insurance.

    • feel proud that you were one of those people to recover google's R & D costs ;)

if not, we may not be receiving such a deal too early

      • +1

Pfttt I'm an OzBargainer… Getting something cheap (yet socially and ecologically responsible) is all I care about… :P

    • Means, you must be paying insurance i guess. I dont have insurance activated on my card.

  • -2

Last time there was a price drop (I think at $380 or roundabouts) I price matched at Hardly Normals for the internet price. At first they said no but I said other folks on the internet were successful and he caved instantly.

Might be worth giving them a call?

    • +3

Nexus 4 price drop? Never happened until now.

      • -2

        Yeah it did

  • +1

Arrrhhhhhh Only purchased this a week ago for the old price :(

Google you owe me a hundred bucks lol

  • +5

Just saw this on my Google Play Account

Nexus 4 (8GB and 16GB) purchases from Devices on Google Play are currently eligible for price protection if the purchase was made on or after August 12, 2013. If your purchase is eligible, we'll refund the difference in price within a reasonable time.

So I can log a case for the Hungee they owe me… Bargain… Let me rush up to press that plus symbol

  • I bought a similar phone last week, the LG Optimus G E975 4G.
    http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/lg-optimus-g-e975-4g-32gb-black/

    Pros:
    32gb v 16gb
    13MP v 8MP camera
    4G
Home/Back/Menu buttons don't take up screen space

    Cons:
    costs $60 more
less frequent official software updates (custom ROMs are available though)
    no 850mhz for telstra 3g

  • I fail to resist…

This is the first Android phone I've used that doesn't lag. Ever.

    Screen is incredible too.

  • +1

Been reading reviews about the fragility of the glass on the front and back - what are other people's experiences re dropping the phone?

    • It's fragile, though I use a case and haven't had any problems for almost 10 months now.

      • I have my white one naked. All good so far, haven't dropped it though

        • +2

          going commando on your phone.

    • read above

  • I bought the N4 during its second Aussie release back in February and have loved it. It was a great price then and it's an even better price now. I personally wouldn't buy it at this stage as it's clear something new is on the way, but if you are looking for a cheap but very good phone then this is the one!

  • +1

just realised how miserable i felt whenever my apple devices depreciated in price. with nexus 4 not so much as it was totally worth the money and wasn't so expensive to begin with.

unbelievable price for a brilliant phone.

i recently flashed miui custom rom and fell in love with it once again.

for people getting into android with this as their first phone i highly recommend installing smart launcher.

  • Thanks bought one ;)

  • Bought an 8GB, thanks!

  • Thanks tonnes. Bought a 8gb for a family member.

  • I agreed to buy No.2 son a white 16Gb version of this (ex HN) as an early birthday present. Too bad that they are out of stock. He'll have to put up with this one direct from Google instead. :-))

  • WOW!! Awesome Price. It also means that Nexus 5 is coming very soon!! Brilliant…
Hopefully! NEXUS 5 will be made by Samsung or HTC, even ASUS, much better than LG's quality.

    • +2

Could be Motorola, since Google own the company.

  • It is super slippery and will slip to fall at any slanted surfaces so get a cover/screen protector asap!

    edit: best price

  • +19.95 Del to Sydney, I'm still crazy tempted

  • +6

i gave in. not sure how, dont have any money but still bought it. i am the reason for GFC

    • +3

No Mate.. You are the reason we are being saved from a GFC… More spending helps in stabilising the economy.. Remember the $1000 stimulus package from the govt.. They wanted us to spend it not bank it..

      • Only if the spending is done locally, I don't know about spending in some off shore tax have like Singapore

    • +1

Actually this is the reason for recovering. Bad for you personally, good for the economy.

…if you want to let facts get in the way…

  • Those wondering about a refund from google…

    "Price protection for devices
If we reduce the price of a device on Google Play, we'll refund the difference in price in a reasonable time. Starting from the date of the price reduction, customers have 15 days to submit a price protection refund request"

    https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2667427?hl=en&r…

  • All we need now is someone to hack up a voucher/coupon for 5% off or free shipping or something like that.

  • +2

So, the only thing stopping me now is it doesn't work with 4G?? Is that right?

If I get it, I'm going to use it as my main phone, probably for a minimum of 2 years… and if it doesn't work on 4G, that could be quite frustrating.

    • I'm in the exact same boat here.

    • Nope no 4G, but it does DC-HSDPA, 42 Mbps.

      • Pardon my ignorance - is that equivalent to what the SGS2 does now?

      • +6

3G / HSDPA is more than enough for me. Heck. 42Mbps? I'll be happy if I can get 4.2Mbps from Optus.

      • Lumia 920 for 8 months on Telstra and never once did I test and actually get more than 32Mbps. Not sure if it was the phone or what, but even side by side with a Note 2 the note 2 was clocking 42.

Realistically I doubt u will notice the difference

        • I had my lumia 920 for a while on optus now and i almost always get over 32Mbps.

          My most recent screenie:
          http://i.imgur.com/Cm8wX76.png

          Optus Network. Inala QLD.

And the difference is noticable between 3G and 4G.
I guess its all about location but when I hit 4G, it is fast.

    • +8

Note that '4G' of tomorrow won't be the same as '4G' today anyway. Both Optus and Telstra will be rolling out new frequencies starting next year so many devices won't work on these. '3G' is going to remain the more important of the two for some time yet.

      • Huge + on this.

        • Clearly not everyone agrees.

  • Nexus 5 may come out Sep/Oct 2013?
    Priced at $350 USD?

    • +1

Maybe, maybe not, it's all rumors for now.

  • I bought one for my mum 50 minutes ago.

… I'm tempted to buy another one for my dad before the hour ends =).

    • Wait what? Before what hour ends??

      • As in I was planning to buy 2 within the span of an hour.

        • ohhh haha I thought the offer ended.. that's a releif
