Does anyone know if the 30days is also in regards to gas? They only switch after they do a reading.
Would like to know this too and whether we can set a date for the switch to happen. My gas reading isn't due until next month 23rd of Feb which is after the 30 day period. I wonder if we can get around it if we do it manually?
Seems too good to be true! Assuming you don’t end up with an awful rate - but even if you do - switch away again after 30 days no?
Eligible Recipients will receive the applicable Card/s by email up to 90-120 days after connecting to the relevant plan/s.
Yep - but doesn’t seem to be any reason you couldn’t switch after 30 days and just wait for your cards
Yep in the last one I switched after 30 days. Had forgotten all about it but then got my gift cards in emails after about 120 days.
That's what I am looking at. For electricity $200 for switching with Econnex and $200 from the company (Engie). For internet (which I was planning on changing next billing cycle anyways) its an extra $100. Not bad all up.
I was about to switch to Engie yesterday for $200 bonus. Luckily missed to complete registration, will do now for extra bonus from Econnex
Do Engie have the $200 credit on this deal though? I couldn’t see it
Oh it's changed. Thank you and fixed.
30 for energy and 45 for internet isn’t it?
Yes, rates aren't flash, but chop and change after the 45 days and you've fulfilled your agreement. Sometimes there's sign up bonuses with the provider that stack on top of the gift cards. For example $200 off your first bill.
Would it stack with red energy qantas points offer?
(I'll try to figure it out but I thought there might be a pro here. And I know red energy do that bad backdating thing. I'll wait until just after the meter read from current provider and switch for qantas points then out again.)
Would love to know this too.
Does it stack with ShopBack?
People have had mixed success with this, but the general consensus is no, it doesn't stack.
Thanks for sharing. I've churned many times but never noticed all the fees around remote connection and site access fees around connection and disconnection. What's this all about? Is it not relevant if I am simply churning at an existing property?
It's always worth checking with the provider, but in my experience the connection fees relate to a property that has been disconnected, not the transfer of provider for an already connected property.
Did not receive any GCs from the last deal. Signed up for all three, elec, gas & internet. Called econnex and they just keep bouncing it off their 'internal' teams.
I should downvote this deal but just waiting for others in the same boat to confirm.
No, it takes between 90 and 120 days to receive the gift cards. We'd be looking at the end of February to mid March for these to be sent out.
I guess I copied in the wrong deal, it was last to last somewhere around June 2024.
Oh I see, check through your spam and deleted items in your email. It comes from 'Karta Rewards' - looks like spam.
Failing that message this user - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/199794
They seem pretty responsive in helping everyone.
I received my $200 not from the last deal but the previous one
Also received my gift cards from deal linked
So you've received from the 25/11 deal, the one I mistakenly linked?
What's with the "may receive" and "a chance to earn" language? Is that just legal speak or something? Sounds dodgy. Keen to try this if its legit though.
Have received my Karta prepaid Mastercard eGift Cards ($150 for Elec, $100 for Gas) via email for the deal posted in early sep https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/864414
This was on top of the Engie credits of $200 each for Elec and Gas. So in total $650 worth of free money.Yeah I got these gift cards just before Christmas. Happy Days!
Yep, got mine on 24th but just saw the email now. Lucky I saw it as it time to claim it expired on 23rd
Engie looks OK with $200 per fuel signup.
I last signed up with Engie (Simply Energy) back at the end of November 2023. Electricity ported over about 10 days after, but Gas took till Mid Feb 2024 to come over.
For the new sign up credit ($200 + $200) the T&C state:
Your offer includes a one-off welcome credit of $200 on your first electricity bill and $200 on your first gas bill (total of $400 for gas and electricity), provided you have not received a welcome credit from us in the past 12 months. This credit includes GST and is not redeemable for cash.
I wonder if this is 12months from signup, or 12months from the utility becoming active under the new provider?
I'll bet your $200 it's the latter.
You would have lost that bet. I called up, its based on the signup day.
in 2023, the company was called Simply Energy, and now Engie.
I received my $200 credit this month from Engie, having been with Simply Energy in May 2024.
I just moved out of Engie about 3 months ago, what if you I now use the wife's name but for the same address. Does the 12 months still apply?
Does this deal work if you click "switch and save" to a deal you are already on? Already on AGL gas (value saver) yet the Engie Perks electricity deal I want has the same AGL gas (value saver) as part of the package? Or does it mean i won't be eligible for the bonus $100 gas mastercard.
Just sign up to a different provider then you currently are, best off to sign up for Engie for both Elec and Gas as only Engie is providing $200 credit each for each fuel on top of the EConnex gift card
Can I sign up for gas, if I don't have gas in the house?
Just askin'…
Yeah I would but it doesn't look like Engie provide Gas in my location… AGL, Energy Australia and Red Energy my only options.
I just pulled the trigger on electricity, was about to do the same on internet, and… WTF is this $300 "New Development Fee"??
It's the standard NBN fee, nothing new. You can google it.
But, I've already got NBN… I'd be churning 🤔
There would be no fee if you already have NBN and sticking with the same technology.
I built new townhouses and had to connect NBN for the first time and still somehow avoided the fee.
I also managed to upgrade from FTTN to FTTP and avoided the fee.
This is going to be tricky. Just signed up with Engie a week ago, but still in cooling off period.
Do I cancel with them and then try and sign up again using this link, or do I just go to Powershop instead.
I'm worried that Engie will stuff it up and refuse to credit me with the $200 welcome credit if they see I've already been in their system…..even though it was only a few days and cancelled within cooling off period.
Cooling off is cooling off! If you don't do it, I'll dob you to the OzB authorities, and have your credentials revoked XD
Nah….definitely cancelling with Engie now.
Just wondering if it's best to play it safe and go with Powershop through this link even though they are only offering a $150 welcome credit instead of the $200 from Engie.
I can definitely see Engie stuffing it up if I try and go with them again immediately after cancelling. If they refused to apply the $200 welcome credit again because my name was already in their system it would make this whole thing not worth it.
Did you get a sign up bonus from Engie? Could you let that ride for the duration of the discount then switch to Powershop using this deal?
@DoctorArd: Nah…I only switched a week ago and there were no Mastercard deals then. I was only getting the $200 welcome credit from them and that's pretty much always available…..at least in my area.
Don't forget you can get an extra $75 from powershop by using a referral, or $90 from cash rewards if you stay connected for around 70 days. You can also enter your own referral code and pick up $75 if anyone uses that, every time!
This deal will be back. Stick with engie. The credit inquiry even if you cool off.
am in the same boat! what did you end up doing?
Called Engie to get them to cancel. After being passed around three different people they found someone that could cancel it….I think.
I haven't heard anything more since then, so I don't know if it's already been transferred back to Alinta (my previous provider), or if I'm still with Engie and it's going to take a few days to send me back to Alinta.
Anyway, I decided to just play it safe and I signed up for Powershop with this deal, so hopefully I wind up there in the next week….haha. What a mess.
Thanks, OP. Churning electricity providers is my new favourite thing. I am still in $$141.78 credit with Engie so I will switch using this after my next bill.
Edit: On second thought - if I switch today would Engie have to payout the $141.78?
I'm going to have a go at stacking with $70 from Top Cashback and $150 off from Powershop: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/867116
No payout
True but not for promo credit which I assume some or more of the $141 is
I have personally received payout from Engie for sign up credits
Good effort, stand corrected
applied using this company before never get any gift cards or cashback
Does the Engie $200 welcome credit apply to your first bill only or does any outstanding credit roll over to next months bill?
My welcome credit has always rolled over resulting in a discount on at least my first two quarterly bills. This was with AGL and Engie.
Edit: I just checked my first Engie bill…
Once Off First Bill $200 ( Per Bill ) -181.820000 $181.82 Cr
Australian Government Energy Bill Relief $75.00 Cr
Credit for Service Outage $100.00 CrGiven the wording of "Once Off First Bill $200" I might be wrong and I might be in credit for some other reason.
Yeah that wording confused me. "Once Off First Bill $200" first bill makes it sound like its off your first bill only. Im normally under 200 a month so was wondering if it would roll over. Its no big deal if not but would be a added bonus.
Can confirm it does roll over.
The biggest bonus was this: Credit for Service Outage $100.00 Cr
We didn't even know we had a service outage!
"May" receive? Do we actually get it?
Is there meant to be a confirmation email and does it reference the mastercard offer? I signed up but no email and the check out page didn't seem to reference it.
You usually get an email from 'Econnex Comparison' with a reference number etc. But it doesn't mention the gift cards.
Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for it. Hopefully no issues getting the gift cards in 3-4 months time too.
Personally I've never had an issue, but it's always handy to have that reference number in case something goes wrong.
Just checked with them, marginally cheaper for electricity and marginally higher for gas if I switch to Momentum.
The gift cards and the extra signup bonus is making it appealing though.
just signed up thanks OP. any way to confirm the deal went through properly and the gift cards will be sent out?
The only issue with these frequent churns is finding out which retailer did the end of quarter 75$ VIC gov rebate land on…
I joined engie on 10-Dec but have yet to see it on an invoice. Could be on my powershop retailer which was the previous retailer but I can't see my elec account on the app anymore
Currently with Engie. Who else has a sign on bonus to stack this with?
Can someone help me out I'm with globird and the electricity seems cheaper on engie but gas is slightly more expensive which plan do I pick
Will the ShopBack or TopCashback work with this offer?
I just tested this. The deal link takes you here: https://www.econnex.com.au/promo-january
I can't find a way to get directly to that link via TopCashback so I'm not going to worry about it. $200 from this and $150 from Powershop should be enough!
I worked out why i couldn’t see a $200 credit for Engie - because i had solar selected and they don’t offer it on that - given I’m only going to stay for 30 days - i don’t mind forgoing the poor solar rebate for the period
For the NRMA offer from Engie, can you use the NRMA Blue membership number?
Id love to know this also
Yes
Can you change plan with the same provider once you have signed up without losing the cashback? The plan I am looking at with AGL is not in the offer.
Worth switching for Canberra? Not many providers here…
Didn’t even click through from Shopback but weirdly just got an email saying purchase tracked. $171 (made up of $108 and $63 - I did electricity and gas). Be nice if that comes in as well as the $300 mastercards and $200 Engie credit!
Did you go through shop back? It does not show $200 promo through ShopBack?
you must have clicked Shopback for Engie somehow, then even you close the tab and start over the transfer again with this offer, ShopBack will track it..
I went throught the steps above and received the tracking email from ShopBack for $171.
It's because ShopBack for Engie is also landing on Econnex website. But I think they will evetually reject it.
In the end, you will have $200 +$100 digital cards from Econnex and $200 and $200 credit for Electricity and Gas from Engie.
The only thing I am concerned about is whether we will receive confirmation of digital card (sort of tracking) from Econnex? or need to wait after 30 days?
Can you transfer services on more than one property
to receive the bonus from Econnex more than once?Hmm I might be in the minority here but I would prefer if they just took the $200 straight off the electricity bill - surely saves the company mailing and registering/dealing with customer service of a Prepaid MasterCard right?
Pick engie and they do that on top of the $200 Mastercard
Oh and they make a lot of money on breakage (people not claiming/redeeming the cards). If they gave everyone straight credit it would probably cost them twice as much

Does the switch need to happen by the 21st? Or can I schedule my internet to switch early Feb?
Edit: looks like it is fine as long as you apply within the promotion period and the plan takes effect within 30 days of application.
"Promotion available on qualifying Energy Plan and Internet plan applications made between 16th January 2025 and 21st January 2025"
"Your Internet Plan must be activated within 30 days from the date of application."
