  • Seems a good price for home DIYer.

Wonder of anyone knows whether the batteries are compatible with other brands like aldi Ferrex or Bunnings ozito

    • Pretty sure they aren't compatible with either of those.

  • +1

Extra 2Ah battery when purchased directly from Katana:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/881062

  • That's alot of electronics for $200, undeliverable value compared to a plank of wood for the same price from Bunnings.
Anyone know who manufactures Katana: is it Hi-Tec (who make Milwaukee, AEG, Ryobi) or Einhell (who make Ferrex, Ozito)?

    • fwiw searching the address of Katana Power Tools returns the location of Kincrome's head office

      • Katana is a brand by Kincrome. Not sure who actually makes them, but Kincrome cover the warrant. Tools arrived and look pretty good so far.

  • I’m looking for a circular saw to get into basic woodwork, already own a Ryobi 18v Impact Drill/Driver, would it be worth getting this instead of a Ryobi circular saw?

    • +1

probably not. Katana has a limited range and very small retail presence.

My experience with 18v circular saws is you need a larger battery (4ah+) to deal with anything other than thin pine boards.

      • Thanks, will wait for something better then!

        • Consider a wired drop saw/mitre saw as well as a circular saw - you'll find the circular saw useful for general outdoor imprecise plank cutting but as soon as you have to make things meet at 45° you'll quickly want a drop saw I think. If you're doing detailed work then a jigsaw or band saw might be more appropriate.

          • @Meconium: Hey, thanks for the reply! I reckon you're right, will go for a wired circular saw to start off with, and then if I get deeper into it, I'll get the other tools as needed.

  • Is this still available?

  • Just a quick PSA for all who purchased Katana tools -
To get your 5-year warranty, you must register your tool within 30 days, otherwise you will only have three years according to their Warranty page:
    https://www.katanapowertools.com.au/warranty

So don't forget to register your tools via https://www.katanapowertools.com.au/register-tool to make sure you get your full 5-year warranty on the tool. Batteries appear to be 3-years regardless. It doesn't matter if you purchased via a reseller or via their webpage, it seems you need to do the registration process. After registration, it should come up in your tool bag - https://www.katanapowertools.com.au/my-tool-bag
