Don’t buy this but the black and decker when it’s less than 1/2 the price. Heavy and during cut any faster.

    • Got a link for the model?

Price is high at the moment but has been as low as $129. Best part is that this saw can be used one handed which the dealt one can’t due to its weight. I found in side by side comparisons that this one cut just as fast with a sharp chain. You can always get a battery adapter for deadly to black and decker.

I've had one of these for a few years (edit: 5 years actually), they're ok if you're already invested in Dewalt and you only want to use it for camping firewood cutting or light track clearing, it's ok on say 25mm+ to 100mm stuff…

The chain speed is VERY slow so it doesn't like cutting real small stuff, and it's really not happy if you try to cut anything with the top of the bar, like when you do a cut under a limb before cutting from the top.. It also leaks bar lube terribly, you really need to drain it after use…

I mainly purchased it for odd pruning and cutting the tops out of a stack of gumtrees I keep as a wind break, and such, but it's not really suited for the job, I tend to use one of those $20 Makita knockoff 4" chainsaws for most my pruning these days… (or my little petrol Stihl.. The smaller ones start from $300 these days)

I so rarely use my Dewalt saw, occasional track work and that's it, it wasn't a good purchase IMHO…

I've also had one of these for about 3 years, I was already invested in the DeWalt system. Overall, I found it surprisingly good for cutting/sawing goes through branches around 150mm dia. without any problems for me and lasts a long time on a single 4ah battery. No problems with undercuts or small stuff for me.
Agree 100% it leaks bar lube, I drain it between uses and if only doing a few cuts I lube the chain directly. Looking online I have seen an issue where a small plastic part breaks inside which can cause the bar lube to stop entirely as well, which is a concern.
Considering these issues, I'd rate it as OK, I use it and it does the job for me.

I paid the same price for the saw alone, so with the kit this is a much better deal.

      • It is ok for some jobs, or if you have nothing else, but I think there's better out there…

The low chain speed is my main complaint, it's only around 7.5m/s, a 54v Dewalt is about 15m/s, and petrol saws are around 20-25m/s… A faster chain speed is soooo much better…

Same as everything, horses for courses… (I'm probably a bit spoilt by having multiple petrol saws and such)

Yeah, that's fair, I use mine for heavy pruning or small stumps. I haven't had experience using petrol powered saws because I dont want to deal with keeping fuel, maintenance etc. so I don't know what I'm missing I guess.

  • Bought this saw about a year ago, used it to cut down over 8 trees that's around 6-8m tall and trunk circumference around 60cm. Don't have much to complain about. To be honest, I think it's reasonably good for beginner that never deal with chainsaw before. I would consider not able to cut far as a plus for beginner, and the low kickback give you more confidence than other big electric/oil chainsaws.
