      • Did it work?

        • Yes, both transactions got tracked and now are waiting for approval.

  • +3

From Critical Info Summary: “ Plans may no longer be available or may have changed if you do not activate your SIM within 30 days of purchase.”

    • +1

Have any good reason to trust Optus?

    • this is Optus' critical info, not CB's. Right?

It appears that I could purchase this now and activate next year when my Boost plan expires.

      • Yep no mention in the Cashrewards "Special Terms" of needing to activate so just take a screenshot in case.

        • +1

Are you guys planning on not activating straight away as well?

          • @Brick50: Yes, I manage a few phone plans for family members so will be buying this today for one who doesn't need it until March 2025.

      • +1

I called Optus prepaid and they confirmed that (as per Critical Summary), 200GB data is guaranteed available at the time of activation. The prepaid card expires in 2026, so, whatever the "bonus" data is available for $320 prepaid plan on the day of activation will apply.

The way I see this is, $120 (after CB) for 200GB, 12 months on full Optus network is a good deal (free OS phone calls included too). It's as good as Boost if not better depending on which countries you call.

        • But for those who have to wait a few months, wouldn't it be better to wait for a deal closer switch date?

Not sure if that ANZ plus bonus stack but if it does then make sense to get it now, I think that bonus only pays once though?

          • @syswong: My mobile plan ends end of Feb, no guarantee that there'll be another deal like this closer to churn date.

  • Anyone received CR tracking yet?

    • +4

Yup, I did receive it. Took 2 mins

    • Yes, mine tracked for $100

      • did u do existing or new number ?

        • neither.
I have not even received the SIM card yet. apparently it's arriving today 28/11 via Startrack

The network in Sydney has been very poor especially in the Western suburbs. I am using Coles (iPhone 6S) and Amaysim (iPhone 11 Pro), and the 4G network is really poor now.
Up until last year, it was fine.

I will be switching to Boost once this plan finishes.

    • Thanks for the report!

    • +2

Funny you say that, I’m in the south of Sydney and just switched from Amaysim to Boost hoping to get less congestion on the train to the CBD. Telstra reception is terrible at home for me, Optus 4G was 200mb speed, and on train to city get constant congestion problems with Boost as well . I guess every network is different for everyone.

      • +1

Same in north west Sydney. Telstra is the worst in my area.

      • Yes south of Sydney is different from West of Sydney. My partner uses 4G Boost on iPhone X and it works like a charm.

      • I switched Vodafone to boost and now get terrible congestion on train to Sydney. Airport line is unusable. Telstra not what it used to be especially if Vodafone beats it

      • +1

Your experience is pretty much what the statistics show. Telstra is just riding off their laurels from 10+ years ago when they genuinely had the best network.

These days, for anyone who lives in the inner city or the suburbs, Vodafone actually provides the most consistent speeds and connection, which is what I've observed as well.

        For example, see: https://www.opensignal.com/reports/2024/10/australia/mobile-….

The "Download Speed Experience" test places Vodafone at an average of 84.3 Mbps, with Telstra at 68.1 Mbps, for example. Telstra also lags behind in network consistency.

Telstra, overall, does have better coverage, as seen in the "Coverage Experience" test, so folks in regional and remote areas will be best served by Telstra. However, where Vodafone pulls ahead is in the Availability / 5G Availability tests, which basically just shows how congested the Telstra network is - they simply do not have the spectrum and / or towers to carry all of their customers in denser areas.

TL;DR, if you never go into a rural area, don't get Telstra.

    • I'm on Optus 5G and drive all through western Sydney with no drop outs whatsoever. However I am using 5G (Pixel 7 Pro) so not sure if that's making a difference. In fact my reception is better than what it was on Woolworths Mobile 4G that apparently uses the Telstra network.

      • Thanks, I don't use 5G. My post was only related to 4G.

        • I know, and my response was to add an an alternative experience based on 5G, as not everyone is using 4G exclusively.

    • You might find that if you upgraded to a 5G phone your experience will be vastly better as there is more bandwidth available.

      • Thanks, not sure why people are negging me. Optus network has been shit on 4G. I must say that their 3G was really good up until last year as well. If 3G is removed, then 4G must get some of that bandwidth.

I don't have 5G devices yet so no idea how their 5G is.

Irrespective of that, will switch to Boost/Telstra.

    • that's funny because Optus have more spectrum then Telstra deployed

      • Only for 5G. I am considering buying an iPhone 16 Pro now then.

        • Telstra operate b7 20, b3 15, b1 10, b28 20 on 4G, while optus operates b40 2x 20, b28 10, b8 10, b7 20, b3 15, b1 20

          • @Quarter Pounder: I checked 11 Pro Bands, do you think the below are correct?

            Model A2160*
            FDD‑LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 29, 30, 66, 71)
            TD‑LTE (Bands 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 46, 48)

    • -1

Part of the reception goes to hypocrite iPhone Co. with Siri that $py every behaviour to make you pay more ;) It will be worse when you get Apple Un-intelligence ;)

      • evidence?

  • +25

Almost worth leaking my driver license info for this

    • Just get a new drivers license after. This bargain is worth your time. Tell them Optus leak yours again

    tracked

Noice deal, just in time. Now the wait begins for CR.

  • if i want to buy 3 of these for 3 different mobile numbers (family members) can i and can i do 3 x cashback all under my own account?
the sims will remain in there names, but ill be paying the optus prepaid charges/signup?

  • +2

Can we purchase multiple sims for multiple cash backs?

  • +1

Ordered 2 sim cards and I will report back if they are tracked or not. Thanks OP!

    • Got email of tracked one at least.

      • -1

You should've read the terms. You stuffed up.

        • Be more specific?

"Cashback is paid once per order/transaction, regardless of the number of plans purchased on that order."

So you should be able to get it 2+ times via seperate orders.

          • @nzcoops: Yes, I ordered 2 cards in 2 separate transactions. Lucky!

            • @paulzhang: Yeah, that was aimed at plmko suggesting something in the terms says otherwise.

I'll likely do the same (3) soon.

    • +3

Got both tracked. I am not sure if they will be confirmed or not next year.

  • perfect deal for mum

  • It's worth noting that network speeds are capped at 150Mbps on this plan. Their monthly prepaid plans are capped at the higher speed of 250Mbps.

Still good value so I'll take it. Not expecting much from Catch or Amaysim this year based on last years poor showing.

    • Why not?
      This year can be better.

Past performance is not an indicator of future performance.

    • Its same for Boost and Telstra too.

  • I'm using ANZ credit card and it's asking for otp but the amount stated is $0.00 vs my cart being $220. Anyone having the same issue ?

    • Same here. Abandoned cart. Let me know how you go

      • I used my other phone and it didn't ask for otp and it went through

        Beats me!!

  • +2

    Thanks
Ordered, got tracked in a few min

  • This was a good deal if you need more GB but otherwise $120 for 280GB is great!

    • +1

      Optus over Catch anyday

  • Can i add number share on my apple watch

  • My Boost plan ends in June 2025. Can I still buy this now and activate it then?

    • Looks like you can but you'd be most likely to lose the $100 cashback

      • There's no mention in the Cashrewards "Special Terms" of needing to activate so just take a screenshot in case.

  • +1

CR support has been incredibly frustrating. Still waiting for the Optus cashback from with this deal

Their constant response is, "I have escalated this to our operations team who will now follow up on this transaction with Optus Postpaid Mobile. Once Optus Postpaid Mobile updates us on the status, we will update your Cashrewards account accordingly."

    • +4

This is what makes me hesitate on this deal. Normally if the cash back is really good, they weasel out of it by blaming the merchant and washing their hands off of any responsibility.

    • +3

Same for me as well. My estimated cashback date was in October but there's still no word from CR.

  • +1

If currently with amaysim/catch (optus network), is the Kogan (or voda) $2 esim the easiest and cheapest way to port out and in?

    • +1

Don't need to. Just port directly to optus

  • I ordered and it has appeared in my bank transaction list but I did not get a confirmation email, nor Cashrewards tracking. Been a couple of hours since I ordered.

  • Since Coles Mobile is also Optus, can it be ported to this? Asking for my dad

    • I'm in the same boat. Would like to know.

    • Yes, you can 'port' between retailers just like a normal port between carriers. Instead of a full port, something in Optus' system just gets changed so your number goes live on the new provider's SIM.

  • +1

Is there a cashrewards rep here? Would like some clarification re activation and cashback. I have 3 months left on my current Optus plan, would like to know if this needs to be activated by a certain time for the cashback or can I port out/back in, in a couple months time?

    • Maybe ask CR directly via their website

    • Keen to know what they say

    • Did you find out?

  • Thanks Op

Hodl for the $99 Costco Vodafone 12 month 240GB Black Friday deal.

    • +1

      Optus>>>Vodafone

    • 💪🏼

    • +1

      Costco no longer sell them

    • -1

legit or you just talking sh!t?

    • Does boost also offer oversea wifi calling?

      • Yes it does

    • +1

Does it have overseas WiFi calling? Afaik it's only available for Telstra and its MVNOs e.g. Boost

      • +1

Argh you are right. Optus don't allow WiFi calling when overseas.

  • lets see how long this takes to track, I never got my quitelike cash back

  • my current plan expires in Jan, can I purchase now and activate later? would it still be eligible for the cash back?
also, buying esim seems not eligible for cashrewards as it does via Optus app.

    • Yep no mention in the Cashrewards "Special Terms" of needing to activate so just take a screenshot in case.

  • Was waiting for this but decided that i wanted at least one phone at home to be on a different network so paid 278 for Telstras Prepaid equivalent. 120 bucks after cashback is hard to beat.

  • +2

What is the deadline to activate this sim if buy it now? Can't see it mentioned on the website.

    • +1

There is no mention in the Cashrewards "Special Terms" of needing to activate so just take a screenshot in case.

  • +4

Decided to stick with Boost because I'm still sour about the Optus breach a couple of years back

Looks like it doesn't matter when you activate

    • On Optus checkout page:
      Plan Terms & Conditions:
Activate within 30 days of purchase or by date advertised (whichever is earlier) to receive advertised inclusions.

      • +2

That's nothing to do with the cashback

      • Is there a date advertised?

  • How long will it take for new SIM to arrive? I live in the metro area Western Australia and my current boost expires in 3 days. Is there click and collect? Thanks!

  • Ordered about 2hrs ago and tracked within 5 minutes on CR.
