Well if is new to cash rewards I don’t think it can get up to 320+ votes. Unless everyone is having multiple accounts lol.

        • If its for "New CR members only" then it shouldn't get tracked as CR would know straight away while us making a purchase that if we're a New Customer or an already existing customer.
I dont think so CR would double their work to check each account if they were NEW Accounts at the time of making the purchase.
Rest will see in 20/3/2025 if it gets Declined or Approved….🤞🏼🤞🏼

        • Just to update, mine tracked fine… within 5 minutes.
But enough people not being tracked, so had to ask the question. (Well, relay it from others.)

      • I think lodge to CR is quicker now. It’s delivered today lol

    • I did 2 orders this arvo and both tracked in under 10 min. I was actually very worried cos I did it on Cashrewards app but had to switch apps for banks OTP verification that it would mess up the tracking. Luckily all good. I’d def suggest cancel and re-order if you can.

      • Do you plan on activating within 30 days?

  • Has anyone received the SIM card by Aus post?

    • mine's startrack delivery today.

      • Is there an expiry date on the packaging? Planning on activating mine in late March.

I thought last year i got a bargain with the $99 Vodafone deal but this year $220 - $100 - $50(ANZ plus deal) $70 Love Black Friday Deals.

  • Anyone managed to order 4?

It seems i cant order the 4th one even after waiting 24-48 hrs.

    • I'm stuck at the 4th too - do I have to choose which kid doesn't get to use his mobile anymore?

    • $120 for a yearly sim with reasonable amount of data is quite common, why you need so many sim?

although $10 for 23gb is rare but its only valuable if you use that much.

  • Ordered on Sunday 24th, contacted optus - got kicked around in circles, then asked if I paid for it, then asked what it is even after having the order number, then finally said nothing they could and rather have to call the customer service line. And apparently delay for people ordered on sunday as its not a working day, even orders placed on Monday have already shipped…..

    • Similar story here. Took about 40 mins on chat for them to say there is no pending order and maybe or probably it will arrive in 5-7 days lol

    • I ordered last monday, but still not shipped. The order number still cannot be tracked on startrack website.

      • Did you receive the sim finally?

    • I chat to Optus online and had a look at my credit card transaction description online. Optus process it as afterpay while I paid in full.

Looks like this is their system bugs again. Optus CS told me to bring receipt and proof of payment to the nearest Optus store to pick up the SIM.

  • Bought one despite the reception issues. Cashrewards tracked immediately.

  • +1

I bought one yesterday was tracked after 5 mins. and I bought another one today also tracked within 5 mins. same cashrewards account. would love to know if I can activate my sim in mid Jan which after 30 days of purchase??

  • I am sure I replied but can't seem to find it so here we go again.

The new member refer to new Optus user (number) not new CashRewards member.

As long as you purchase the pack you "should" get the cashback🤞🤞

The activation is not related to CashRewards but Optus. Google revealed this sim is suppose to come with 200G only so if you activate after 30 days, you "may" lost 80G of data.

Now my turn for a question, I saw someone mention extra cashback if you have ANZ Plus. I don't have one yet but I can open one if need to. Does that offer works (tracks) with this deal? Don't want to open another account if doesn't work. Thanks 🙏🙏

    • Can you share the google link please. Keen to activate after 30 days, ok with having just 200G.

      • 320 is standard annual recharge on Optus website, which gives you 200G data for 365 day.

look at the recharge option in Optus prepaid website.

And before anyone ask, no you cannot use this pack as recharge credit.

  • Is this deal applicable if we choose to buy eSim ?
    Can we port existing number?

    • +1

No esim. Cashback is only on physical sim.

      • I couldn't see that in any terms though. Is it mentioned somewhere?

  • How long does it take for Optus to deliver the sim to Metro Melbourne?

    • +1

Within 4 business days via star track. And only mentioned person's name can receive the package. No one else can take in their behalf. I had to go to Auspost to collect as they didn't gave it to my wife. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

      • Ah, thanks for the heads up. I asked them to deliver it to the letterbox, but will probably have to be at home if possible when it deliver then.

      • Ended up getting it today via Star Track. Within 1 business day of ordering.

  • ordered one through cashrewards extension/website through PC and got email of tracking after 10 minutes.

  • +1

purhcased 90 minutes ago and didn't receive any tracked email. still waiting.

    • I've already received my sim card, but it's still not tracked.

      • +2

I think I know the reason why:

If you click missing Cashback, you can see Optus Post Paid Sim there on your transaction date. It looks like you had clicked through the Optus - Post Paid Link instead of the Optus Prepaid.

It’s confusing. It never happens to have a different Cashback link for two products even the retailer is the same.

I will wait for 7 days then submit a missing claim request to cashrewards.

        • oh dear yes it is showing as "Optus Postpaid Mobile" in the click history.
please keep us (me) updated on how to work that out…. thanks mate you're a legend

        • +1

Damn I did the same thing. I'd love to hear how you go as well.

    • For those whose Cashrewards did not track automatically, Cashrewards support asks the question "Can you please confirm if this is for a new sign-up?".
New sign-up is not defined aywhere. New sign-up could be:
      1. New Optus Customer
      2. New Prepaid service
I can confirm new sign-up does not mean new cashrewards member.
Do you have an existing account with Optus whether it's for Internet or an existing postpaid service? I myself have an existing postpaid service, so I'm wondering if that's the reason why it didn't track automatically.

      • +1

just got to the 7 day I can file my missing claim.
I do not have any Optus account / postpaid service though. Will keep you guys informed.

  • Perfect since I just got an email saying my CatchConnect prepaid is expiring in 2 days.

My only worry about this — over other cheaper offerings albeit at much lesser data — is the cashback. Specifically if it doesn't track or is rejected for whatever reason.

  • Ordered 10:39am - Tracked email came through at 10:44am.
I don't always trust that the computer won't block, so use app instead.

  • Has anyone received the SIM card? Ordered on Sunday and haven't seen any update…

    • Same boat. Ordered last monday, still waiting for the sim to get shipped.

    • Received mine within 2 days

  • Is it easy to switch from physical sim to eSIM after activation with Optus?

  • +1

    Thanks heaps, awesome timing!
Spent the whole week trying to GTFO out of Catch Connect.

    • Is it that bad? My mate seems to think they are ok?

      • They worked fine, but are handballing the failed port out issue I'm facing to the 4 other service providers just to see if I can even get out. The error message literally says it's the original provider but they keep coming back with everything is fine on their end.

  • Do you need to port out if you are with amaysim?

    • +1

It is OK to port over to Optus directly.

  • +1

bought via webbrowser on pc.. from CR website.. still not tracked.

    • +1

There are two Optus icons on cashrewards website.

One is Optus Post Paid, the other is Optus Prepaid. I reckon you clicked on the Post Paid link, then purchase a Prepaid Sim, that’s why it cannot be tracked.

I am in the same boat.

You can check the “missing Cashback” section from your cashrewards, and see what you had clicked on your transaction date.

      • Oh dang… I clicked on postpaid…
Is there a way to still get cashback or I am I stuffed?

        • +1

Not sure yet. I submitted a missing cashback claims first. See how Cashrewards reply.

      • I was wondering why the browser extension wasnt working, so I activated cashback through it. in CR I noticed it activated the postpaid mobile, while clicks through the CR website were for prepaid.

however, my purchased still tracked for $100 and the store is Optus Postpaid Mobile while my partner's one is for Optus Prepaid Mobile =/

  • +1

Mine hasn't tracked after 7 days, purchased through browser, should've used app. Submitted a claim today, fingers crossed

  • Thanks, bought via browser, tracked within minutes.
    120 days till approval 😂

If I use this yearly sim, can I still receive SMS overseas? Or this is considered as roaming services that I need to pay.

I usually buy a travel esim when I travel, but I want to find a provider that I can receive SMS verification code when I am overseas.

Does anyone know which provider is free for doing that? Thanks.

    • +1

I'm on vodafone prepaid and I was able to receive SMS when I was in Taiwan last month. I did not buy any extra roaming service.

  • Does anyone know how long the cashback will be up for? The BF optus sale goes till 4th Dec so I want to maximise my 30 days period of activation because my boost isn't expiring till mid Jan.

  • Not sure if this has been answered previously but with this deal can you still apply the Optus One Number to use on the Apple Watch or is that only for pay by the month accounts?

    • I believe you can't use a prepaid sim for Optus number share. Optus number share is only available for postpaid plans.

  • Tempted to change from Telstra but the Optus 5G coverage map for Melbourne looks so patchy

    • +1

See if you can find a cheap discount Optus sim in supermarket to test out in areas that you hang out.

On paper Telstra in Sydney looks way better than Optus but in practice Telstra 5G is way behind in many areas, and many comments prove my experience is not alone.

      • Thanks, I did wonder if Optus and Telstra coverage maps are showing 5g coverage in the same way or not. Optus looks way worse on the map than what I would expect compared to Telstra.

        • Download the tower app and see how far you are away from towers.

I use to live 500 meter from a Voda and Optus Cell and speed was so good.

Now I am in a suburb 2.5 time the population and although there is 4 tower near me, all are at least 1.5-2km the difference was shocking. There is clearly signal strength and capacity issue for both. It did push me into NBN and now with the Superloop deal I am getting almost LAN speed with 100/40 which was a surprise.

In both address Telstra never worked for me, all cells are 2km min, 5G just doesn't travel that far, can't break the law of physics.

  • +1

Anyone know if you can activate a contract like this with a new number from Optus, then port across another number at a later date when its current contract is going to expire (if your identity is the same for both numbers) ?

    • +1

Nope even Telstra stop that ages ago, which was the only carrier you can do that.

Just buy now and activate it later, or look for a deal closer to your contract expires.

      • Thanks for explaining, just goes to show one should never trust chatgpt to answer a question like this - it was "sure, here's how" etc.

  • +1

My purchase from 19/04 is still pending $50 cashback

  • Fantastic deal, thanks OP! Bought via Cashrewards on Chrome, tracked within minutes.

  • I realised I clicked the postpaid link and not prepaid via cashback..

    • Let’s appeal and compliant! It’s confusing.

The usual practice to earn cashback is to click on the retailer icon and then choose your products and buy!

This is the first time they have two icons -one for Optus Prepaid and one for Optus Post Paid. Even if you clicked on the Post Paid Link, you can still see Cashback Rate on the Prepaid Sim in the T&C! I can’t see any reason why they don’t honor this!

      • Good luck to us! Lesson learned for me.

I clicked the missing cashback and will see what the. Say!

        • man i'm on the same boat. last click history says postpaid. how should we start appealing this?
do we have CR rep here?

          • @ozcosdoz: I applied via the missing transaction and will see what they say

    • Same thing. My prepaid SIM tracked as postpaid. I don't think it's us - I reckon something is not working correctly on the Optus/CR side.

I clicked all the prepaid links on the Optus website, purchased the SIM and within about 15 mins it tracked the $100 cashback as postpaid.

      • Ok figured out what is going on here. I made this "mistake" too.

The OP (or perhaps Ozbargain Moderator) has put the following two identical descriptions in the CR link

Top Link- $100 $320 - 365 Day Prepaid SIM - If you click this, and you probably would - it takes you to the Optus Postpaid Cashback
Bottom Link- $100 $320- 365 Day Prepaid SIM - If you click this, it takes you to the Optus Pre-Pay Cashback

Cashrewards (Should) work on the basis that you made the transaction via clicking thru from their site and made the purchase at Optus (and the cashback (should) represent the value and type of transaction made. Usually their pages just have one page for any type of purchase not multiple pages - may make it easier them to track.

I also noted that Optus only pre auth a 0.01 c charge and so if cashback didnt track, and they are playing hardball, there is no obligation to pay the 220 to complete the transaction once the sim arrives.

I think it is in their best interest to cashback the deal given how their page works and how this deal kind of hinges on the price being CR included - or they could find 100's if not 1000's complaining!

  • I am currently with Catch Connect for 2 phones, one phone is for me and the other is the wifes. The account with Catch Connect is in my name solely showing 2 individual numbers. Is this setup going to cause me a problem when I purchase each sim individually with Optus?

  • Is it possible to receive SMS while overseas without paying anything extra on this?

    • +1

The big 3 always allow SMS to go through as long as you have roaming enable in account.

Some MVNOs will ask you to pay a deposit before they allow roaming to switch on, stay away from those like Moose.

I had Kogan, Boost, now with Amaysim and Spintel, all let SMS through as long as you have roaming enable.

Obviously REMEMBER to switch off roaming data to avoid bill shock.

    • -4

Roaming SMS has a cost on receiving SMS's. The only free overseas SMS (and calls) I ever had was through Wifi Calling. This was with Woolworths mobile. I am hoping this is the same with Optus.

      • +2

This is wrong. Other users including myself have already confirmed that you do need to pay for roaming to receive sms. You only need to pay $5 a day if you want to data roam or to send sms or make calls.

        • That is with some stingy MVNOs because they would not enable your roaming unless you buy a roaming pack.

This is ALWAYS NOT THE CASE with big 3. You can enable roaming on account services and disable data roaming on phone. You can receive SMS free while you are overseas.

Both my Amaysim and Spintel I enable the roaming while I was overseas in Japan. Some issues with Spintel but was not payment related. Once enabled both was able to roam in Japan and receiving SMS, not a cent charge to my account.

        • Hi can I double check with you whether you might have accidentaly omitted a 'not' in your reply (you do 'not' need to pay for roaming to receive sms)? Thanks!

          • +2

@cacbm: Yes you're right. Must have been typing too fast.
            * You do not need to pay for roaming to receive SMSs.

            • +1

@cynical17: Thanks! Your comment is super useful and in fact I bought the sim card because of it!

              • +2

@cacbm: I've called up Optus in the past multiple times. Each time a rep has reiterated that you need to pay $5 to receive SMSs. So I tried it twice over the last 2 overseas trips and low and behold I received SMS without paying the $5. Just make sure you don't make outbound calls and make sure your data roaming setting is off.

  • My Boost plan is coming to an end on 23rd Dec. Since they kept increasing their prices, I was looking to switch. Thanks OP, this is a great find and I bought 1! My cashback tracked in 6 mins. Purchased on an Android phone via CR app if anyone is wondering.

    PS Telstra just acquired Boost

  • Bought the pack over 6hrs ago using chrome and the ext, but still no confirmation email.

    • I bought it on Friday and it still hasn't tracked. It does say 1-7 days to track but I'm not convinced since other people's seem to have tracked in minutes?

      • im also not convinced, because usually when i use CR, i use it through the mobile app and i get a tracking confirm email within minutes. This time i was stupid and used the chrome ext.

        • Same. I think what happened (according to my "click history") was I clicked through the CR website for pre-paid, and then on the pre-paid page, clicked "activate" in the chrome extension, which has tracked as a post-paid click. Which is incredibly misleading and I will be lodging a claim as soon as the 7 days are up.

  • Thanks. Bought and tracked within 10 minutes!

I also signed up for ANZ plus so lets see if that tracks in 7 days lol

    • I can now see the $50 ANZ plus in the CR app. I bought the sim on 3rd Dec, $100 Cashback appeared on the same day and ANZ plus $50 cashback appears in the app as of yesterday.
