Optus Flex Plus 365 Days Prepaid SIM 280GB for $220 Delivered ($320 Ongoing) + $100 Cashrewards Cashback (Expired) @ Optus

510

eSIM excluded.

Cashrewards is currently offering $100 cashback on the $320 plan Expired, now $26 (16/11)

I am not 100% sure if the Cashback will stack with the $220 deal, but based on the comments from a previous deal it should.
Cashback will likely go down to ~$30 after a few days but not sure exactly when.

$120 for 280GB seems pretty good.

My optus cashback from April is still pending

    • Does it have a 180 day pay out period?

      • +6

28 day sim. 120 day pay out. Thieves

    • +3

      Same

  • +3

Do you need to activate SIM soon in order to get cash back? Can we activate 2-3 months from purchase?

  • +6
    • No cashback though.

      • +2

Stack on with 10% everyday extras. Have done it a few times on amaysim kits and works.

      • Still cheaper $199 and not having to worry about cashback.

Edit my bad, $220 -$100. When I click though it shows full price

  • It is funny that Cashrewards increases the prices of listed $35 and $45 SKs by $4, but Optus actually haven't done it to match Telstra's move.

  • Does anyone get full price at $320 when clicking through cashrewards app? I don't see the discount.

    • Yes, it seems this deal won't work as intended. Some other wrong info also found above.

      • I posted based on amritshrestha's comment on this post.
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/865029

"I just order from laptop with cashrewards extension turned on for $220. Now, I have received an email from CR "Your Cashback is on its way! AUD 100 Estimated Approval upto 120 days."

Seems like you have to use the extension

    • +2

It's showing when I look at the linked site in Safari on a Mac and Cashrewards extension is showing the $100 cash back for that sim. Safari hates the Cashrewards extension though. It works better in Chrome.

      • Please let us know if the CR tracking works

        • I put my order through last night and the subsequent email came "your cash rewards was tracked ($100) from optus prepaid" so hopefully it goes through. It's only really worth it at $120!

          • @chriaj2689: How much did you pay?

If you go via CashRewards website, full price is shown= $320

            • +1

@2cheap: I used the extension as per the comment and it shows up as pending $100 in my CR account .

              • @chriaj2689: How much did they charge you initially?

                • @2cheap: $220. Use the link from the deal(after you click through the cashrewards link)

      • +1

Hi do you know if you will get the cashback if you buy more than one $320 sim with 3 seperate transactions? Thanks

  • Does this need to be activated within 30 days?

    • +1

was thinking the same thing, can't find the T&C that says within 30 days

      • +2

It doesn’t say anything. Do you know how long do we have to activate? I want to buy and save to use in few months. $120 for all those gb and full 5g it’s a treat.

  • +6

Don't we lose our Ozbargain cred if we buy 280Gb for $120?

  • +2

For $132 you can get 315Gb with a max speed of 250mbps (unlimited data on weekends if you have auto recharge on. It's not clear if you get this before having done an auto recharge though). That's three $55 105Gb 28 day sims with $11 cashrewards each. Just not sure how long you get to activate to get the cashback. Also they're 28 day sims rather than a year.

    • Where to get this deal?

Or get six of the 55Gb sims for $15 each with (I think) $8 cashreward). So $42 for 330Gb. Same issue about how long we can wait to activate to get the cashback. Also to get that data needs to be activated by 7/3/25.

        • +2

Confirmed you get $8 cashrewards for this $15 55Gb sim.

        • But this is a monthly prepaid card, don’t you have to port out after 28 days and get port back in?

          • @Chanelmania: Like the Boost sims I just use them for the month then start a new one. I have my phone number on an annual sim (Woolies). I just use these cheap ones for internet in my 5G Modem (at home or in my motorhome).

            • @wfdTamar: Ah. After using a third of the data on the first sim the 5G modem dropped connection. These sims only work in a phone (I really cant see why a phone running a hotspot vs a modem matters to them).

    • Any idea if these will work in an optus modem?

      • Dunno. I want them for a modem/router that's not network branded/locked. It works with Boost sims. It's not clear if these Optus sims work in non phone devices. Annoying if they wont as I've bought 4.

        • Just to confirm they are 55Gb and they do work in a non Optus modem (I'm using a Cudy P5) . So the same as Boost sims.

          • @wfdTamar: Ah. After using a third of the data on the first sim the 5G modem dropped connection. These sims only work in a phone (I really cant see why a phone running a hotspot vs a modem matters to them).

  • +2

Tempting.. I do hate Optus though.

Been with Amaysim for two years, last year they sent me a loyalty discount so I stayed.. not sure if they will do that again. Perks are I do keep my massive database but downside is no 5g.

    • +1

I all honesty do you really need 5G. I find 4G I can use for practically anything. 5G just seems to drain battery.

    • +1

Rare that a company offers perks to an existing customer.
I got the same loyalty offer from Amysim, took it up instead of porting out and then switching back for a new customer offer. Then I got some bonus data as well.
So impressed that my wife switched to them as well and now we even have them for NBN.

  • +3

Seems expensive considering Optus were recently hacked and exposed customers private data.

They handled it so poorly, i wouldn't even consider using Optus

    • Not to mention spotty network. Lucky to use half that with the quality of tgeir network

  • +3

POA: Requesting a refund for unused prepaid service is painful (if you don't activate the plan). If you find that the cashback has not been honoured, you may want to request a refund.

    • Don't you need to activate the SIM as a part of the cashback terms? I remember reading something like this in the past from Cash Rewards or Shop Back.

  • +1

I tried cashback sometime ago, but they never gave me any money back? Thats why I am cautious of trying to purchase via Cashback or any similar stuff, it does not make sense, how do they actually make money. The purchase was with a product called Ivacy which is now taken over by PureVPN company

    • Massive try contacting them lmao

  • +2

I've been doing prepaid sim for years and i love it tbh!

    • Me too!

  • +3

I wonder why this deal isn't more popular? Seems like a much better deal than this $100 for 120gb. This is 280gb for only an extra $20?

    • +2

      Store subscriber number on OZB:

Optus 19 versus Catch Connect 101

  • I had a rooted Mi phone and recently used it with Catch Connect sim. However I just got an email from Catch saying Optus network identified the handset is not safe and the handset needs to be replaced. So strange as I did not recall any carrier ever states that their sims need to be used on unrooted device.

  • +4

Just got this from a Cashrewards support person:

'You can activate your Optus SIM at any time, as there is no specific time limit mentioned in the store terms regarding activation for cashback eligibility.'

    • On Optus checkout page:
      Plan Terms & Conditions:
Activate within 30 days of purchase or by date advertised (whichever is earlier) to receive advertised inclusions.

      • The Cashback is what I was talking about.

What you’ve found is stuff like bonus data.

  • Seems like $100 cashback is for $320 priced sim. Not sure if the discounted $220 on optus website will return in cashback. Did anyone successfully try?

  • My Ezysim still got half a year remaining… :(

Does anyone know if Optus prepaid has a expiry date when you have to activate by ?

    • +1

Expiry date of the pack. Mine is late 2025.

      • thanks…buying it online is a bit of a Russian roulette then :(

        • +1

I have not seen them sending any pack with less than half a year of expiry.

          • @hawkeye93: Thanks! Just got one from woolies exp June '25!
Fineprint reads "activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on a promotion, whichever is earlier, to received advertised inclusions". I guess 'advertised inclusions' means 280GB, if not 200GB ?

Also, woolies has their own 'Activation was successful' - Does this mean I need to port number before 27 Nov to get 280GB otherwise I'll only get 200GB ?

            • +1

@PAPower: Most luckily, however I have activated Vodafone at later dates and got the inclusions going then. So you’ll get the allowance given at the time of activation (that’s my understanding).

  • 'Customers who SIM swap or change rate
plans are only eligible for standard data inclusions.'

    WTF is Sim swap?

    • +1

Guessing it's where you're already a customer (aka not a "new" customer) and you keep your existing Optus number with the new SIM card.

If you got a new phone number or ported it in from another provider I'm guessing you'd be fine and this wouldn't matter.

  • +2

I did that.. got cashback 100.. took a few months

    • Months or Minutes to track?

    • Please share the timeline of your purchase. This will give us an estimate.

  • Do most people really need that much data? I was on a yearly 80gb plan and I still have about 70% left unused with couple months left.

    • I am on a Prepaid boost plan, I have used about 143GB in 315 days.
I think it depends on how much you travel.

  • +1

Normal price is shown when I click the link through cashreward. Is it another geo fenced deal by Optus? Based in SA

  • +1

I think this deal is over… Cash back is now $26 on 365 day sim.

    • If you need one now have to grab one from
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/872973

      Not as cheap $199

    • +1

Still shows as $100 on cash rewards till 31st October is the deal

      • Yes, I bought earlier for $220 and I did receive $100 on my Cashrewards statement.

      • Sweet. Deal came back. Purchased and got tracking confirmation. If i logged into cashrewards prior to going into the page it showed the original $320. But if I got to the $220 page first and then clicked on cash rewards it worked properly.

        • Do you have the extension?

          • @2cheap: Yup I have the chrome extension.

  • +1

Cheers OP. I was hoping it work work for an e-sim tonight as my Boost expires tomorrow but can only buy on the app.

Just got the sim and hoping it gets delivered tomorrow or Monday. It does say express shipping.

    • +1

Purchased mine yesterday evening and mine hasn't shipped yet.

    • I purchased yesterday at 3pm and received it this morning at 9am! Sydney
If you don't receive it on time you could purchase a discounted Felix monthly esim (or other esim offer), use it, and port to this Optus sim in a month?

    • I did exactly the same thing. My Boost expired today, but I just recharged for 7 days. I have just ordered my Optus a few minutes ago. Just got my email from Cash Rewards, Hopefully I will get my new SIM within 7 days.

  • I bought it over 24 hours ago using the cashrewards google chrome extension but it has not yet tracked. Anyone has the same issue?

    • +1

      Mine tracked within 5 minutes.

Can you check your clock history in cash rewards? Does it ha e the optus site? Also check your spam inbox.

      • Yeah it shows up on my click history as "Optus Postpaid Mobile" for some reason, even though I have literally received my prepaid sim today but still no tracking. I guess I will just have to wait for 7 days and send a claim.

    • +3

checked my email and there were 7 minutes between the Optus email (received your order) and the Cashrewards tracking email

  • +1

Hi, does anyone try to buy more than one sim (say 3) with this offer under 3 transactions and get $100 cashbank under each transaction to make it 3 card costed $120 each? Thanks.

  • Wait what, Optus Sport sub hub is not eligible with pre-paid.

This should be a big disclaimer!

    • @Circly

      Comes up under "add ons"
      ( under recharges Optus app)

      • Says its $12 per month. Shouldn't it be $9.99?

        • Sorry only just saw this.
Not sure why but that is correct it is more expensive.

I have a Postpaid data plan and it's says $9.99

          Very odd.
Suppose to cost $24.99 have no idea who pays that tho.

          • @snappy1234: So I've confirmed with help desk that $9.99 applies to post paid only.

Prepaid cannot subscribe to sub hub, you can only Optus Sport directly which is $12.

It is sneaky as the Optus Sport page says in big writing "Optus Customer $9.99“ without specifying that its postpaid only.

To be transparent it needs to have another row saying" Optus Prepaid Customers $12".

            Very sneaky.

As someone on the fence I'll just forgo adding Optus Sport then on principle.

Overall, deal was still ok with cash back as I am getting 220gb more data than the old plan for the same price. However, as it's for my elderly mother I doubt she will use that data anyway.

This should be a psa on each prepaid deal from now on.

  • anyone else succesfull using the chrome extension?

    • +2

Yes, just put an order through with the CR extension installed. On the Optus page there was an auto CR extension popup ‘click to activate’. Clicked that and put the order through for $220. Have not received a CR ‘tracked’ email, but just checked in the app and $100 cash back is has tracked in CR as ‘pending’.

    • I did it last night and got the tracked email.
      Hope it goes through.

  • Nice deal but concerned about this clause in the cash rewards T and Cs? Not sure if this special deal counts as a discount or not, hopefully not?

Cashback is ineligible on: Purchases using any type of discount which lowers price advertised on the Merchant site, including but not limited to employee discounts, student discounts and price-matching.

    • +1

$220 price is advertised on their site.

  • Looks like this needs to be activated within 30 days of purchase - is this correct, despite the expiry date could be 2026?

  • -1
