    Too good to miss!

    • +7

Too bad it's Optus. Won't be giving them my personal information nor business for a veeery long time.

    • How many times was it? Fool you twice shame on who, but we lost count now πŸ˜‚

  • +20

If Amaysim doesn't come up with a renewal Black Friday plan in the next five days, I'll jump on this.

    • Is there a risk of this expiring before the fortnight is over?

      • Black Friday Deal: Ends 4/12/24.

        • +5

Nothing stopping Cashrewards lowering the cashback amount though

    • same situation

    • I just got one for one of my 150GB yearly SIMs, $127.50 for 200GB 12 mths if I renew by 27 Nov which is before BF.

      • Sorry what u got…offer from Amaysim?

        • Yes

          • @sheikyerbouti: can u pls clarify your offer again, you got offered 365 days renewal plan for what and what is your current plan?…I just asked them on chat and they refused…

      • I got this offer from Amaysim too.
Trying to decide whether to stay on Amaysim or switch to this Optus deal.

  • +1

nice, will it work with esim? TIA

    • I tried and couldn't get it to work… See my comment

      • i thought you can transfer to esim from physical sim afterward?

        • its was a pain in A## with optus when i tried last time, have to call them and request to transfer and then they will enable it on the app to download esim. not sure if things changed recently

          • @hopper: Did that maybe 2 months ago, same process

        • +1

You can do it through the app, just have to have a registered account with email and password. Otherwise u can go to an optus shop and ask them to help you change to esim

        • Genuinely curious. What are the benefits of moving to eSIM from physical sim card?

          • +1

@iamtapu: physical sim is occupied with overseas simcard.

          • @iamtapu: Only benefits if you swap SIMs frequently. One use case; where you have travel eSIM which you can enable when you are at destination, once back In AU, you can enable your AU eSIM. Don't need to remove case (if you have one) pop out tray to swap SIMs.

          • +3

@iamtapu: Honestly, I think the best method is to actually have your main number as physical sim and then use esim for travel / secondary that may change often.

This way you only need to physically open the sim slot once a year when you port as it is 12 months plan.

          • @iamtapu: The benefits I imagine are that you can have multiple eSims active at once (I believe most phones can support 5 active?).

Also I guess you can buy online and get it active immediately instead of waiting for the post for a physical sim.

            • @mortymorty: This depends on your phone, my S23 Ultra cannot do multiple active eSims

    • +6

I bought the last deal, got the plan activated using the physical Sim then the next day went to an Optus store and got it converted to esim.
      No issues

  • +16

Do you know how long do you have to activate? Current plan has about 6 months left.

    • Wondering the same. 2 months for me.

    • Want to know too

    • -1

Need to activate within 3 month for the cashback IIRC.

    • +1

Under the T&Cs, I can see

"All for use in Australia. Fair Go Policy applies. Activate included SIM within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on a promotion, whichever is earlier, to receive advertised inclusions."

And there is no specific activation expiry date for this deal, so my safer bet is we need to activate it within 30 days of purchase.

      • too bad, still have 3 months plan for me

        • +1

Same here, mine doesnt finish until Feb, but I got one for my old man.

      • What is the advertised inclusions in this case? The 280gb is printed on the product and applies for next 3 recharge, so it shouldn't disappear after 30 days.

  • +1

really good. wonder when to activate sim card by though.

    • -1

30 days from the day of purchase

  • +1

Assume this has a 3 year activation period? Given the bonus 280GB data mentions 3 years?

    • +1

Not if you want the $100 cashback, no doubt.
Usually need to be activated within ~30 days, but can't see the details. Wouldn't risk it either way if it's activated past 30 days, personally.

      • Hi, I used to use Optus but it expired a long time ago. I am using Boost atm, will I be considered as new customer if I activate with the same details as I used before?

        • Yes, you can leave for 1 day and return the next day to be considered, new.

  • +3

Be careful current Optus members! You cant do Sim Replacements anymore with preloaded sims (Keeping same Optus Numbers)

    • Yes, i made this mistake and bought a plan from Woolworth, had to sell to marketplace afterward.

      • +2

Why not just port out and back in instead of dealing with crazy people on marketplace?

        • +2

And miss out on the fun

    • What's sim replacements / preloaded sims?

I'm with Optus atm, am I able to port out to Kogan in a couple months and back in if I buy this?

      • +1

You can port to any other brand for 1 day and straight back to be considered a new customer..

  • +1

anyone know what 'New services only' mean? 12 months? was with a pretty good deal 12 months ago until i churned to another provider lol

    • +1

For Optus, no time limit. Even yeastday you port out a optus number to other telco, today you can port it back as"new customer" without any issue.

      • Hi, I used to use Optus but it expired a long time ago. I am using Boost atm, will I be considered as new customer if I activate with the same details as I used before?

        • +2

According to the past experience, "new customer" is based on phone numbers, not ID register. It means to create a new number or port in a number from other telco is both considered as "new customer".

  • +1

Cashreward means should be need to active within 30 days be careful check and buy

    • +1

'Cashback is issued by Cashrewards, not Optus.

Cashback is eligible on new sign ups only.

Cashback is paid once per order/transaction, regardless of the number of plans purchased on that order.'

      Is it? can't see anything

      • Yep no mention of needing to activate so just take a screenshot in case they don't give you the cashback.

    • +2

I don't see this in terms, where do you see this? I don't need to activate until next year so curious

      • -1

Just said so as per all old thread

        • It’s for boost not Optus.

    • +2

I'd be curious to see this verified. My current plan expires early Jan (I wouldn't lose too much if I need to activate within 30 days though).

  • +3

Wow, what a deal. Boost — where's the match!

    • +2

IKR - I've been waiting on Boost's cashback…. My current SIM expires in 3 days lol

    • +10

Boost is basically Telstra pricing now lol. RIP Boost.

      • Not really, boost is still a lot cheaper. Tel$tra = $365/12mths 165GB, Boost = $200/12mths (on eBay) 170GB

        • +4

Well that's not accurate current pricing… sure there are cheaper Boost (and Telstra) SIMs currently on eBay but they are a limited stock, they're not making more.

Boost new plan is $300. Telstra's $350 plan is currently $299 on their website. Currently one gets you 260GB, one gets you 265GB.

          • +1

@pennypincher98: This is true, however for an extra $20 you can get a Boost $365 SIM for $320 with 365GB. I also noticed sellers on eBay are now selling Boost $230/170GB SIMs with a 2026 expiry. But true, pricing is a lot similar now

    • +2

Boost is the ultimate FU model.
Bumping the price of their only good plan for 4 years on end then just straight up canning it.
It's sad that they have the energy to do such things and we have the energy to chase such things. Collective waste of energy.

  • +2

Wow. That's compete directly to catch conn ct, amaysim….and even other networks Kogan, Lebara….

  • -1

Some help please, as I can't buy eSim through cashrewards. After logging into CR, I follow to Optus site, select the prepaid plan ($220) then if I choose eSim notes 3 steps. Step 2 is to complete the purchase in the Optus app, and in doing so, it warns that this is outside of CR and may not track?

Otherwise I can just do physical Sim I guess.

    • +2

      Not applicable for esim 😒

    • +4

      Yes physical sim only.

      • Thanks for clarifying 😊

      • Assuming they allow us to switch to an e sim after activating the physical sim.

        • +1

You can do this. After activating the physical Sim go in store to convert to esim.

  • +3

Just to clarify, pay $220 and get $100 cb? Or pay $320 and get $100 cb? Asking only because cashrewards mentions $320 on their offer page

    • I guess CR is just quoting the original price. When you click the image you see the Optus discounted price.

  • +7

    No deal

Optus are still doing random TAC/IMEI bans on legit phones

Unless you are on Apple or Samsung, you have no idea if you can even use the 12 months of service that you are pre-paying for

    • +6

Not sure why this has been negged so badly. I believe telcos should be working with their customers not blanket blocking devices

    • +1

Why are you getting negged lol? I'm on xiaomi poco f3, any way to check if it'll work? Currently fine on Boost

      • +3

I'm on xiaomi poco f3, any way to check if it'll work?

You can check with a $2 SIM from Optus or other Optus MVNO

However, that only confirms current network access and your device could still be banned at anytime

Optus have lost a huge number of customers in the last month with their indiscriminate bans which is why you see this and the Catch Connect deals front running today

      • +6

Optus banned my Poco F3, woke up one morning and my phone has no signal. Can't even dial 000. Wasn't planning of buying a phone this year but here we are, i am pissed.

        • +1

Thanks for the info.. Seems I'll stay with Boost after all

        • +3

Same here, my Poco F3 was banned by Catchconnect (Optus), ironically it is a fully VOLTE compatible phone and it can make 000 calls.

        • Do you just have to swap to a different network when you get banned or whole different device?

      • F3 is banned on Optus. I had a foreign sim roaming on Optus and they my device to connect to that. Telstra works though.

  • +1

Does "Cashback is eligible on new sign-ups only" means new Cashrewards members, or does it refer to people who aren't already with Optus? Also, since Amaysim uses the Optus network, would that be considered the same as Optus? If so, does that mean I could switch to Telstra, Vodafone, or any provider using their network and then return to Optus?

    • I've switched between Boost and Telstra without any issues. So I think they are considered as different operators.

    • I am wondering whether new sign ups mean new cashrewards user too. But it seems no one answered here.

      • I am an existing CR user and cashback got tracked. Must be new Optus user I guess

        • odd, how? i did it 1-2 weeks ago and still have not received cashback.

for reference; i ported from boost to optus with existing number. and also existing cr member

  • +3

Are we able to port our existing number on the new sim?

    • Wanting to know this as well.. Can I port across from another carrier ? Eg voda or Telstra

  • Too good to be true!

  • +1

    Technically a dupe.

Also, note Optus Sport sub is $12 per month with this deal.

  • This would make a great NBN broadband backup plan yeah? I can attach the SIM into my 4G router and then plug that to my router so if my NBN connection goes down it will auto switch to this. $120 for 12 months of $280GB is crazy good! I hope they don't block the SIM somehow from doing that?

    • I think they may block SIMs that are used for tethering.
      Not sure about Optus.

      • How can they tell?

        • Data usage? I am not sure.

  • 50 standard international SMS from Australia to any international country

  • +1

You reckon I can buy one for me and one for my child on two separate transactions and get cashrewards for both?

'Cashback is paid once per order/transaction, regardless of the number of plans purchased on that order.'

    • +2

I bought two cards and let's see. lol

      • I'm assuming you buy 2 separate orders, 1 in each? I've got a kid sim in my name so not certain if doing 2 will the 2nd one be seen as 'new signup/customer', however both sims are with another provider at the moment (but I guess we just pay/order a sim and later port/override the sim with existing number during activation?)
