We have three new releases (descriptions have been written by Chiara, I'm not great at adding such flair!):

  • Signature Milk Tea: Inspired by the iconic taste of classic milk tea, this flavour combines a velvety, creamy base with subtle tea notes from Amino Z's signature blend of premium Assam and black teas.
  • Earl Grey Milk Tea: Developed with a blend of meticulously selected bergamot and a signature combination of rich black teas, this flavour brings creamy, milky notes for a smooth, satisfyingly elegant taste that’s true to the classic Earl Grey.
  • Caramelised Dutch Cookie: Inspired by classic Speculaas cookies, this flavour combines warm, spiced caramel with a creamy, sweet base. It delivers a rich, indulgent taste of caramelised cookies with subtle hints of cinnamon, gingerbread and other spices.

All flavours are naturally sweetened. We have transitioned over to thaumatin for the fact that it is an all natural plant based sweetener, a superior flavour profile, a neutral insulin impact (as it is a protein) and being very gentle on the gut. A bit of trivia, thaumatin is about 10x the cost of artificial counterparts (eg. sucralose) and more than 5x the cost of stevia based on weight! Our focus remains on product quality.

Five of the thirty flavours will attract a higher price point due to additional cost to manufacture and also higher ingredient costs associated with these flavours. They include the three cookie flavours (+$2.48 per 1kg bag for Caramelised Dutch Cookie, Cookies & Cream, Mint Cookie Crunch) and the two new tea flavours (+$4.14 per 1kg bag for Signature Milk Tea, Earl Grey Milk Tea). All other flavours are at the standard price.

To help guide, here are the category descriptions from the table above:

Category Description
STRAIGHT Unflavoured and optimised for macronutrients (90% protein). Due to omitting flavours and any sweetener, this is just straight WPI from the manufacturer (less than 1% sunflower lecithin added at the point of manufacture). Use in cookies, smoothies etc. Or if you just want the best macros and don't care for taste!
CORE These flavours have between 75-87% protein. They will also be low in fat (0.3-0.8g/serve) and also low in carbs (1-3.7g/serve). As a general guide, suitable if you have strict dietary restrictions and want to keep the carbs/fat down, but want something more exciting than unflavoured.
INDULGE These flavours will have 64-76% protein with a higher serving size. Notably, carbs and/or fat will be higher than most flavours in the core range, generally contributing an additional 20-30 calories per serve. These flavours will also contain extra ingredients that enhance the flavour profile. This extra latitude with macros and ingredients allows us to elevate the flavour to be what we consider amazing, while not being a complete cheat meal. Given the popularity of Aussie Choc Malt, we're experimenting with a few others in this category and have recently released our three new cookie flavours and our two new milk tea flavours.

Why 3kg this time? (Info on WPI Prices and Supply Constraints)

Previously we have done deals for 4-5kg, but given the current supply and pricing situation, we could just not make it feasible this time around. Given that we absolutely wanted to proceed with a Black Friday OzBargain deal, we felt that the best way we could proceed was to reduce the quantity. I'll provide some background.

Many retailers had a price increase this year due to the increased price of whey protein (particularly WPI). Unfortunately prices have continued to increase and supply is extremely limited globally. Currently WPI is practically not available for supply.

After speaking directly with almost 8 international manufacturers of WPI, it seems very unlikely that supply will improve in the next 3-6 months. For this reason (and as I mentioned in my video), we have had to restrict this deal to 3kg to avoid running out of stock. We also want to ensure that we have adequate supply to run this deal without having to end it far too prematurely.

To be completely transparent with everyone, it is extremely likely that we may not be able to run another whey deal in early 2025. While we do typically do a deal every 3-4 months, given the very challenging supply situation, it is quite possible that this may be the last WPI deal for a while.

Commonly Asked - Amino Z WPI / ON 100% Whey / Musashi 100% Whey (The 3 most popular proteins here on OzBargain)

In almost all of our prior WPI deals, I have been asked how our WPI compares to two other very popular products on OzBargain that we sell (Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey and Musashi 100% Whey).

One thing I want to emphasise is that we have sold all three products and despite us obviously having a vested interest in our own brand, we firmly stand behind the quality of all three products (hence why we used to stock all of them).

  • How do I use my Z Points/Credit? To apply existing store credit (Z Points), firstly make sure that you are logged in.         Hahahaha. No, its for people that train hard and struggle to get all the protein they need in food without over-eating and getting fat as well.. I eat about 300g of steak, chicken or lamb and 4-5 eggs every day, plus 300ml of non-homo milk, greek yoghurt, nuts, etc. I'm also 6ft2, 80kg and have two of these protein servings every day, 6 days a week. I take in about 50g of whey protein every day and the other 100+ grams come from food leaving me at around 2g per kg of bodyweight which is ideal for hypertrophy. Yes, you can get away with less and still grow but I don't flog myself to take that chance of malnourishment when I can bump it up with this stuff for cheap. It's like $1 a serving at these prices. This is called a protein SUPPLEMENT for a reason; it's not a meal replacement. I don't even drink one of the servings I have daily, I mix it into my greek yoghurt and the other serving goes into milk so I am always consuming real food with it.

        I think it's worth stressing the point raised above, this is a supplement and not a meal replacement. So we would never recommend people to stop eating a balanced wholefood diet and replacing it with our shakes.

        We do have a lot of people on vegetarian diets who do consume protein as a supplement, as it can be difficult to obtain adequate protein through food.

        Many of our customers will consume this to conveniently boost their protein intake. We have leaned into creating a wide variety of flavours to make it a bit more novel and enjoyable (and perhaps closer to a cheat meal).

        I note that WPI is a fast absorbing protein, so it's ideal to be taking after a workout to help facilitate recovery.

            @kungfuman: Sorry for any confusion here, but I guess it ultimately depends upon your personal situation.

            Some may already have a high protein diet but require additional protein (eg. to supplement with for their training).

            Others may struggle to eat sufficient protein through food. This is more common with vegetarians, as many plants will be lower in protein relative to meats. Certainly not all though. Plus, many plant based proteins are "incomplete" proteins meaning that some amino acids may be present in very low amounts. A whey protein is considered a "complete" protein and so therefore can be used to supplement a plant heavy diet.

            Once again, this is all very broad and general in nature. It will ultimately boil down to each individuals specific situation and requirements.

      Yeah it's a 3kg cap this time around due to the massive global stock shortage (and wholesale pricing is currently out of control too due to no stock availability). So we do have to run this deal on a very limited supply.

    Just curious, how come unflavoured is quite heavy in calories compared to the rest considering it's unflavoured? Is it just because of the higher protein content?

      @pakikanga yes correct. It is 90% protein. Despite its low carb and fat profile, protein is roughly 4 calories per gram and so it isn't a low calorie food by any means. That said, the serving size will be the smallest given the much higher protein density.

It's hard for me to say exactly for your unique circumstances, but a WPI is a fast digesting protein powder, commonly used after exercise to help facilitate recovery.
