    Sweetener (Sucralose)

I wish these protein products didn't use artificial sweeteners, they leave such a terrible aftertaste 😞 I understand that their target customers are gym going people and would prefer no sugar, but still.

    • +8

You could try the aminoz brand, they use Thaumatin to sweeten it which supposedly doesn't have an aftertaste.

      • Interesting, thanks for the info. I've never come across that sweetener. I know that Stevia (plant based sweetener) also leaves the same awful aftertaste I my mouth, which is why I haven't had Lipton ice tea in over 5 years 😞

      • I have tried it and still the same effect. I have gone with their unflavored ones since then.

      • Been waiting on a deal from them for months! Every 2 months last year at worst. Any day now I hope

        • +1

Check out the last comment from them in the latest expired deal post, seems they might not have another deal so soon

Functional purpose of protein supps are typically to feed muscle recovery/repair for resistance training like you said. Additional calories from sugar must be avoided.

Agree with the comment re Amino Z. I have used at least 6kg of their WPI product and do not detect any aftertaste.

      • +2

Not "must", but the amount of sugar it would take to get equivalent sweetness would be too much for most customers.

    • You could always go for an unflavored variety from Bulk Nutrients and add your own flavour (it's more hassle but you have full control)
      https://www.bulknutrients.com.au/products/whey-protein-conce…

    • coles own brand whey isolate comes in an unflavoured unsweetened version.

I find that these taste better for ones with added extras in it.

  • +3

bad tasting powder that doesnt mix well, but pretty cheap

    • +1

That's true I don't love it - AminoZ hasn't had a sale this year, so I am resorting to this and the vanilla for $61.

      • +1

@aminozcomau might be floating around, any sales coming up?

        • +1

doubtful, they just sent an email out the other day about price increases…

    • +1

Perhaps chuck it in a blender with some berries, oats and milk?

    • +1

bad tasting, bad texture but also musashi as a whole has gone down a lot since they started decades ago. It is cheap but i just dont trust their quality anymore so basically just look at it for value purposes only and even then a lot of times you can find value elsewhere.

  • they taste thick and artificial with boring flavours. I had these for a few years until I found True Protein. High protein percentage and very light on the palate, and more choices of tastes too.

    • +1

      They're $82/kg for WPI 😱

      • Probably so they can have a 40% off sale and still make money (like Coles and Woolworths)

    • +2

True Protein has heinous prices. Not remotely comparable products.

I found it tasted better when mixed with greek yogurt instead of water or milk. Add some almond and chia seeds for crunchiness

    • Interesting idea, i have never tried that. Do you buy bulk greek yoghurt ?

  • +1

Just buy plain protein powder with no additives. It tastes completely fine. Why eat all these extra crap additives they put in for no reason?

    • +1

plain protein powder with no additives

I agree. Which brands though? Hardly much options out there for this.

    • +2

Just buy plain protein powder with no additives.

That's all I used to buy when I was younger & training a lot, then you can add your own flavouring & not just stuck with choc. But where can you buy it for around this price these days?

    • +2

good luck even finding raw whey for prices anywhere near $30/kg

  • +3

Good product, good price. Use your 10% off and stack up too.

  • Wow nice deal

  • -1

    Showing as OOS for me

  • -3

This is halfprice pretty often not sure why a deal

    • Yes CW sometimes have 50% off $122.99 RRP (link provided in the description) so that would make it $61.49.

Also there's a product link in the description to previous OzB posts but I'll provide here for you as well.

Last time they had clearance on ON performance whey and it was like $50 while it is $110+ in other places

    • They’ve also has this instore for $60 this week.

I am looking for unflavoured ones, looks like there is none from Musashi. Also I don’t understand why unflavoured is twice the price.
Any recommendations for unflavoured as i think unflavoured can be consumed in so many different way in food preparation.

For those true bargainers, did you know that whey protein for horses is a fraction of the price? I bought 5kg for my inner city apartment dwelling horse for $55 delivered. The packaging lacks nutritional information, but it did claim "human grade" contents, and if you've ever met or dated a crazy horse girl, you'd know its only the best for them.
Anyway, my horse said the taste is quite horrible with no flavour, but hes still making gains with his lifts without spending nearly the same amount that just 1kg of bulk nutrients costs.

There are different grades of "whey protein". The highest grades of concentrate and isolate are 80 % and 90 % protein respectively. Lower grades could be 50 % or lower with the remainder composed of lactose, fat and ash.

Then there's "milk protein" which contains the casein as well as the whey.

If price is your only concern, skim milk powder is the cheapest "milk protein".

  • This is the whey

  • Running low from the last aminoz deal…hope they have a sale again soon.

    • I don’t think it suits all stomachs though. Could be the sweetener or something.YMMV.
