We have three new releases (descriptions have been written by Chiara, I'm not great at adding such flair!):

  • Signature Milk Tea: Inspired by the iconic taste of classic milk tea, this flavour combines a velvety, creamy base with subtle tea notes from Amino Z's signature blend of premium Assam and black teas.
  • Earl Grey Milk Tea: Developed with a blend of meticulously selected bergamot and a signature combination of rich black teas, this flavour brings creamy, milky notes for a smooth, satisfyingly elegant taste that’s true to the classic Earl Grey.
  • Caramelised Dutch Cookie: Inspired by classic Speculaas cookies, this flavour combines warm, spiced caramel with a creamy, sweet base. It delivers a rich, indulgent taste of caramelised cookies with subtle hints of cinnamon, gingerbread and other spices.

All flavours are naturally sweetened. We have transitioned over to thaumatin for the fact that it is an all natural plant based sweetener, a superior flavour profile, a neutral insulin impact (as it is a protein) and being very gentle on the gut. A bit of trivia, thaumatin is about 10x the cost of artificial counterparts (eg. sucralose) and more than 5x the cost of stevia based on weight! Our focus remains on product quality.

Five of the thirty flavours will attract a higher price point due to additional cost to manufacture and also higher ingredient costs associated with these flavours. They include the three cookie flavours (+$2.48 per 1kg bag for Caramelised Dutch Cookie, Cookies & Cream, Mint Cookie Crunch) and the two new tea flavours (+$4.14 per 1kg bag for Signature Milk Tea, Earl Grey Milk Tea). All other flavours are at the standard price.

To help guide, here are the category descriptions from the table above:

Category Description
STRAIGHT Unflavoured and optimised for macronutrients (90% protein). Due to omitting flavours and any sweetener, this is just straight WPI from the manufacturer (less than 1% sunflower lecithin added at the point of manufacture). Use in cookies, smoothies etc. Or if you just want the best macros and don't care for taste!
CORE These flavours have between 75-87% protein. They will also be low in fat (0.3-0.8g/serve) and also low in carbs (1-3.7g/serve). As a general guide, suitable if you have strict dietary restrictions and want to keep the carbs/fat down, but want something more exciting than unflavoured.
INDULGE These flavours will have 64-76% protein with a higher serving size. Notably, carbs and/or fat will be higher than most flavours in the core range, generally contributing an additional 20-30 calories per serve. These flavours will also contain extra ingredients that enhance the flavour profile. This extra latitude with macros and ingredients allows us to elevate the flavour to be what we consider amazing, while not being a complete cheat meal. Given the popularity of Aussie Choc Malt, we're experimenting with a few others in this category and have recently released our three new cookie flavours and our two new milk tea flavours.

Why 3kg this time? (Info on WPI Prices and Supply Constraints)

Previously we have done deals for 4-5kg, but given the current supply and pricing situation, we could just not make it feasible this time around. Given that we absolutely wanted to proceed with a Black Friday OzBargain deal, we felt that the best way we could proceed was to reduce the quantity. I'll provide some background.

Many retailers had a price increase this year due to the increased price of whey protein (particularly WPI). Unfortunately prices have continued to increase and supply is extremely limited globally. Currently WPI is practically not available for supply.

After speaking directly with almost 8 international manufacturers of WPI, it seems very unlikely that supply will improve in the next 3-6 months. For this reason (and as I mentioned in my video), we have had to restrict this deal to 3kg to avoid running out of stock. We also want to ensure that we have adequate supply to run this deal without having to end it far too prematurely.

To be completely transparent with everyone, it is extremely likely that we may not be able to run another whey deal in early 2025. While we do typically do a deal every 3-4 months, given the very challenging supply situation, it is quite possible that this may be the last WPI deal for a while.

Commonly Asked - Amino Z WPI / ON 100% Whey / Musashi 100% Whey (The 3 most popular proteins here on OzBargain)

In almost all of our prior WPI deals, I have been asked how our WPI compares to two other very popular products on OzBargain that we sell (Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey and Musashi 100% Whey).

One thing I want to emphasise is that we have sold all three products and despite us obviously having a vested interest in our own brand, we firmly stand behind the quality of all three products (hence why we used to stock all of them).

      @Krazyy I haven't tried this product specifically so I am quite limited in what I can advise.

      Both are WPI products.

      I cannot comment on flavour, nor on quality of the other product.

      The key difference would be in the sweetener. I can see the link provided uses stevia whereas ours uses thaumatin. We used to use stevia, but switched to thaumatin as a number of our customers were sensitive to the aftertaste that is present in stevia (not everyone, but enough for us to make the change).

    Thanks for this, ordered. A question on the loyalty program though, noticed that your loyalty program is not based on lifetime spend but the 6 monthly spend and the status expires as well. Is there a reason for that? I have been ordering with you from past 6 years but still sitting under the Silver tier.

      This was a long debate internally before we rolled out the current loyalty plan. Both have their merits as we value both frequent purchasers and lifetime purchasers.

      We ultimately decided to do a 6 month rolling spend instead of a lifetime spend with our loyalty program, as we have more flexibility for higher discounts for frequent purchasers. Going off a lifetime spend would have resulted in a far less compelling discount offer and this was the key deciding factor for us.

      With this promotion, that should put you onto the Silver tier.

      As we are in the process of redeveloping our website, our loyalty program is currently being reviewed. While I cannot guarantee that this will necessarily change to lifetime, it will be further discussed and I will take note of your query above as part of this process.

        pinch of salt
        fill it up with milk
        mix it or blend it with an immersion blender

        freeze 24hrs.

        re-spin if still powdery.

      Currently I have set this to expire on Black Friday itself (November 29th). But this will likely change.

      We have a limited amount of stock allocated for this promotion. Since we haven't done a 3kg deal in a very long time, we're estimating that we'll run out of stock around this time, but our estimates will likely be off. So I will adjust the expiry date as we get deeper into the deal, depending upon how quickly the stock sells through. It may end sooner, or we may extend it a bit beyond Black Friday, but this purely depends upon the sales volumes we receive.

    Club Z is like a bank for my Ozbargain aminoZ purchases. 😁
    I want to to start meal prepping protein overnight oats or weetbix, so I went with 3x caramelised dutch cookie.
    It sounds good, versatile.
    But, 200g of tropical fruit + water + 2 scoops of pandan coconut gelato in a blender is still my ultimate most favourite protein shake.
    So don't surprise me with any pandan coconut gelato discontinuations ever kthx. :)

      We do advise on the pack that this product isn't recommended for people under the age of 18. It is a highly processed form of whey, derived from milk.

      So while the product is not inherently "dangerous", as it is a concentrated form of milk-derived protein, we do recommend seeking professional advice for anyone under 18 consuming this.

      Currently we have this set to expire on Nov 29th, but this may change. We have a very strict limit on how many units we can sell due to the current supply shortage. If we sell faster than we have forecasted, we may need to end this deal sooner. However if we still have stock available, we may be able to extend the deal beyond Nov 29.

      That said, a few flavours may begin to fall into backorder as we have seen some extremely strong sales since launch. Aussie Choc Malt and Caramelised Dutch Cookie could have delays of 3-4 weeks as there are some delays with some of the raw materials needed for these flavours.

    Awesome deal as always! Just had a question regarding the table. It's organised by protein per 100g, what is the significance of this?

    I am a little confused because if you buy any of the protein powders it's still ~26-27g of protein per serving. Is it that the lower you go in the table, the more fats and carbs are present making it have less protein if you were to measure 100g of each flavour?

    Eg. Unflavoured is 90% protein at 100g vs Chocolate Caramel is 75.8% protein at 100g

      I ordered this by protein percentage so you can see which flavours are going to be highest in protein, which is a buying decision for some. As we have standardised the protein per serve (with some variation), generally speaking, those lower in protein will have higher serving sizes.

      This one does have a "real" cookie component to it and so it's not as clean as the "CORE" range. Both fat and carbs are a little higher on this from the inclusion of the cookies.

      Frankly we have added some flexibility to the ingredients and macros here to significantly elevate the taste. We have been receiving some amazing feedback on this one given the flavour profile (it's now one of our top sellers after only recently releasing it). So it will come down to your personal preferences and how strict you wish to be on the macros.

    Is there a reason why non-Aminoz items have been discontinued from the website? It significantly lowers the value of ClubZ for me, as I used it to purchase items that AminoZ doesn’t offer, especially with the price beat feature.

      @exit thanks for asking. This is a very significant change to our business that we have made in the past 6-9 months and I'll provide some background around this.

      There are a few contributing factors to this change. The key factor has been around physical space constraints. We have seen significant growth in our own Amino Z brand, meaning that we have had to increase the total raw materials that we stock as well as the total finished goods we have available at any one time. As it is not currently feasible for us to be moving premises (and it is unviable economically for us to be renting out additional space), this was a key factor for us to discontinue all the other brands we carry to accommodate for our own brand.

      The other key factor was more general as a small business with constraints beyond just physical space (time, money, focus etc). Carrying a whole lot of additional brands adds a lot of complexity to our business. Given that we have seen very significant growth in our own brand, we felt that it was wise for us to dedicate 100% of our resources to adding value to our Amino Z brand, rather than trying to spread ourselves out across Amino Z and all the other brands that we carry. This would therefore allow us to focus on adding far more value to the Amino Z line of products, without being held back unnecessary distractions and costs associated with carrying these other third party brands.

      I do understand that there are drawbacks such as what you have cited, especially in relation to being a Club Z member and the price beat feature. We did debate this extensively and ultimately decided that the way forward for us was to focus on Amino Z and turn this into a world-class brand. Frankly, we just cannot compete with the likes of Amazon, eBay and those other juggernauts out there selling the other third-party brands well below prices that were sustainable for us.

      I am sorry that this has decreased the value of Club Z for you and I do understand your position around this. It was a decision we put off for a few years because of exactly the reason you identified.

      I do hope that this provides some clarity around the changes. I greatly appreciate you being a Club Z member and for the ongoing support of our brand. That said, I completely understand if this is no longer viable for you given that the value equation has shifted with these recent changes to our business model.

          When we first embarked on this journey with manufacturing our own product, we considered Amino Z to be a "private label" (or cheaper home brand alternative just as you have said). But over time we realised that to provide value beyond just cheaper pricing, we really needed to pivot and focus on this brand exclusively as a brand in its own right. This required not only a reset of how we viewed our own product, but many changes within our company (such as this one you've raised). These changes are ultimately what made it possible for us to begin innovating and experimenting with more novel flavours in our protein, and we'll also soon be launching more novel product types too.

    Thanks for the deal Jay, ordered 3kg couple of days back. This morning I realised last year when I ordered on similar kind of deal with $50 credits I didn’t get it. I paid the full amount on latest ordered. I sent an email to your team and Grace has applied a missing credit on my account. Thank you very much for the prompt response and resolution. She would also send an email to your BOH to investigate why was it not applied automatically.

    It would be nice to have follow up email when you apply the credits back on our account.

    Placed an order yesterday but for some reason I was charged taxes on top of the advertised price. I sent a message through the website yesterday but no reply so far..

      @jopiter69 that's odd, the advertised price will contain GST, but I do note that GST will be displayed on the tax invoice and may appear to be additional despite it being included in the total.

      That said, I'll notify Vanessa about this and she can look into this as a priority. Would you mind sending through a direct message with your order number?
