Alk time low on this unit I think.
Price beat Officeworks for $355.30.

Not that I needed WiFi 7 right now but I got this as an upgrade as it's generally a solid device and rated highly by Wirecutter for overall performance with multiple devices in real-world use. Nice app and UI as well.

Also has 5x 2.5gig ports if that is useful for you.

            I care about high speeds on my desktop to speed up large Steam downloads, and get my backups done in a reasonable timeframe etc - but I can't say I'd ever notice (or care) how fast my phone was connecting 🤔

              @Nom: I get 930 down on my PC, it's not needed on a phone but then again I have all my videos and photos set for cloud backup when on wifi so it's useful for some things.

      yeah if your using it for a quest 3 wireless 7 abilities I would avoid tplink they have been terrible with quests.

        Quest 3 dont have wifi 7 only 6e. You're right about some old TP-links though they overheated and throttled.

      Even though this TP-Link model has 802.11be WiFi 7 capabilities,
      I have a soft-spot for Asus Wifi Routers and the RT-AX86U have Merlin-WRT support too.

      Strange coincidence but I suddenly needed a new router a couple of weeks ago and ended up deciding between these two. I went with the ASUS in the end because gaming is important to me. It’s been excellent so far.

      I think a way to look at it is a top tier WIFI6 vs bottom tier wifi7.

      Asus every time, as TP-link don’t update their firmware verify often to address security issues, and pretty much stop support within a year after release.

      They also love releasing different versions of their hardware.

    It seems there's something very wrong with all of TP-Link's Wi-Fi 7 gear, which I'm pretty sure all shares the same underlying hardware, Qualcomm SOCs.

    Multiple sets of BE85s I tried had data corruption issues causing stalled or failed downloads. I've read similar reports elsewhere online.

    I think TP-Link is currently in the business of shipping hardware that's not quite ready for prime time with less than stellar software and offloading the burden of beta testing to customers while they pivot and focus on the next new hardware to base future devices off of.

        Yes, that specific comment is ~1 year old and some of the comments do indicate later firmware upgrades did indeed minimise the reboots, but if you keep reading that entire thread, there are other issues and tidbits about this particular model.

        I wonder if this router will get OpenWRT support.

          I won't buy a router that doesn't support it now. I think I'm going to just get a mini pc as router and add dumb wifi APs.

      As ive specificly mentioned in past BE550 deals on here, that issue was firxed with a firmware update.

      Ive had my BE550 over 6 months and not once has it ever had any issues or needed to be restarted.

        How do you find the network throughput speeds? Range? Feature-sets? More than 2 or 3 SSIDs ?

        I really like my Asus GT-AX11000 but thinking of "moving on"…

          I don't really use any of that sorry just 5g and 6g wifi and all the heavy usage is wired Ethernet. Mostly bought this specifically for the 4 2.5g Ethernet ports to connect my unraid pc to my gaming PC to transfer files faster haha.

          Here's a couple speed test though.
          Bottom 2 are the same location, through two internal walls.
          The top two are same location. At the back fence, About 10m away through a brick exterior wall.

        What's it like for torrents? TP-Link modems in the past have tended to crap out on me for that especially when downloading multiple torrents with say 25 connections each

      There isn't many choices with built-in VoIP.

      There are VoIP ATAs if you want to plugin an older handset. If you want a new handset purchase an IP phone. These can plugin to any router like this TP-Link Archer BE550 with wired ethernet.
