I got one of these and it is very good!!!

On par or better than my old Asus 68U

  • Got one of these as recommended on the previous deal post, and have been thrilled with its performance. Might be a fair chunk cheaper on the GL.inet website - worth checking it out!

Flint 3 is expected late Q2, 2025, unless you need to buy now I think there may be some deals coming up closer to release date.

I'm not Nostradamus though so this at present is still a pretty good price for a good bang for buck router. Even when Flint 3 launches my next purchase will probably still be a Flint 2, they are a good bit of kit.

    • My flint 1s are still running great.
1 upstairs and 1 downstairs via ethernet

  • What is special about this router?

    • +7
      • Decently powerful hardware, will be able to handle gigabit internet when the NBN upgrade kicks in at the end of the year.
      • Built in tools like AdGuard Home, VPN (OpenVPN and Wireguard) etc.
      • Their custom frontend runs on top of OpenWRT, which gives you access to the entire set of OpenWRT features and addons.
      • Frequent firmware updates. They do tend to lag behind on their OpenWRT version, but if that's ever an issue you can drop their frontend and just run the latest OpenWRT.
      • All of the above at a pretty decent price.

      Fully open source. Fully.
      Vanilla OpenWRT compatible.

Virtually unbrickable, if you happen to mess something up then recovery through uboot is simple.

All as @Brobert has said. Bought mine nearly 1 year ago on special for $220 I think compared to an Asus RT-AX88U Pro with the same specs at more the double the price. Very happy with the unit. Has phenomenal WiFi range. Have had no issues at all, best buy I have made and I have saved a packet with this purchase instead of going with the Asus.

  • I was just shopping for a new router, current one can't route above 350mbps.

Was about to pull the trigger on er707 or 706w. I don't need 2.5gps wan but I do want to utilise as much of my 1gbps connection as possible.

Also, I'm not that tied to have integrated wireless. So I guess it comes down to which unit can handle the most bandwidth.

MR90X can be had for around $120 and its pretty much exactly the same performance plus you can install OpenWRT on it.

I have one of those and openwrt.

Its stable, but lacks internal storage. No usb port for 4g failover or app storage.

The extra $80 for this is an easy sell. Im replacing my mr90x with one asap.

      • Yeah likewise, I have an MR90x running openwrt and ran into issue with the adblock extension totally filling its storage - took the router down with it which was a bit annoying. Otherwise great performance.

That said, stacking the 2 for 20% off + $10 off using NAB card deals last year made the MR90X come in at around $90. Price is currently higher, but if you can get the MR90X for cheap I'm not sure if I'd pay over double for this model.

Very decent device. Looks like a gadget from the 90s, but it does what it's meant to and then some. The wifi is strong enough to cover my whole 3 bedroom 2 storey house.

With the included AdGuard Home, keep in mind that a handful of apps may misbehave or some actions may be slower. Unfortunately some app developers run user interactions through analytics and A/B tests and such, so these requests can get blocked by AdGuard.

  • Will this have enough coverage plus speed for a 2 storey house on a 400sqm block?
I have a 100Mpbs NBN connection my devices:

I have some tapo wireless cameras that need 2.5GhZ channel
TV that needs streaming sometimes 4k but not always
3 phones + 2 laptops using internet most of the time.

Just got my device after ordering while it was on sale, it blows away my old router in terms of WiFi range and performance.
