Have it, use it, worth it, great tool.

  • +1

does it work for weeds between pavers?

    • +3

      No

    • +5

Get a flame thrower for that.

      • +11

While a weed flamethrower is a real thing, I prefer pouring boiling water on them. Tends to a lot better job killing them off permanently, even if I do look a bit weird wandering around the garden with a kettle.

        • +7

Not as wiered as my neighbour vacuuming his front lawn

        • Boiling water is also good for Ant Nests.

          • @gccmelb: Not really since ant nest are usually underground you end up killing the top layer and then they just move to a new area

        • Does thst also kill the seeds?

          • +1

@zorodluffy: as long as you don't skimp on amount of water or temperature, yes.
Some criticise the method for maybe not killing the root of the weeds… but again, just don't skimp.

edit to clarify: will kill anything that comes into contact with near boiling temps.. but only the bits that get hot enough (80 degrees C is an old, reliable target). Heat will conduct a bit/fairly well.. but things will also leach that lovely heat… just don't skimp and you'll be fine. If it resists.. try a bit more later :)

            • @captain womble: Trying to get rid of winter grass weed.

Should i douse the area its at with boiling water then pull out the weed, or pull out weed then douse out area for any roots/seed?

              • @zorodluffy: I've never tried for that purpose so not sure. You might be better off hoping someone who has replies, but I'd suspect pull weeds and then douse (less stuff to block the water from getting to any seeds while still hot). I'd try not to turn over or tread down any dirt between pull and douse bits though (even if that meant doing in patches or strips, with overlapping of edges each "patch" when dousing to ensure no seeds manage escaping). :)

edit: I'm answering as if not paver based (instead dirted area based) weeds here, less chance of dirt shielding any seeds from boiling water if in pavers (but more chance pavers will)

              • @zorodluffy: Winter grass by itself? or in your lawn?

Best to pull out with seeds intact and put it in green bin.

            • +1

@captain womble: In short - just dont skimp

    • Use Yates path weeder. Great for that. Smells bad but works great. Don't use the cheap stuff or the round up brand. They're crap

    • +1

Simazine - Look up Bunnings path weeder. Good for 12 months.

  • +1

Paid about twice this much for one of these and has been worth it. Saves me a lot of lower back pain.

  • -4

but has exclusion that Order's value < $50

So is this eligible for the 30% cashback or not?

    • +5

      is $36.50 less than $50?

      • -3

yes, so it's excluded from cashback then?

        • +2

          Yes.
.. but buy two, or something else at same time and….

  • +1

Used it once and never touched it again. Was pretty crap for my weed.

    • +28

You only have one weed ?

Have they been in store yet? Can't seem to check stock (If I search for "weed" it autocompletes to "weed extractor" correctly, but doesn't show any results), and it says "Experiencing delays" on the product page.

      • +2

        I've seen some around

        • +1

Like weeds, see 1, see 100

      • I have seen them in-store

    • Hit and miss. Arrived at my ALDI 2 weeks after the catalogue date

  • I've posted ShopBack's Everyday Market offer here for any queries relating to cashback: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/876396

I have $130 worth of hoselink stuff sitting in my market place cart but stupidly they don't sell the adaptor set to connect normal devices to their connectors which I imagine most people would want. It means you've got to order the adapter kit elsewhere which kills the deal a bit.

    • The same here! I got the hoselink from a previous deal, but no adapter. Now I am looking for one and it is 10$ plus 7$ shipping! Ridiculous

      • I spoke with a hoselink rep via chat and suggested they should get someone to add it. Seems like a poor oversight.

        • Let's hope it will be added in this deal. Thank you for doing that.

          • @Skilly: What do you mean no adapter? The claw part at the end of stick? So they just sent you the stick only…?

            • +1

@Bluey123: We mean this part https://www.hoselink.com.au/products/click-on-adapter-set?va…

So you can connect your old fittings like a pressure washer or sprinker etc to the hoselink connect system.

              • @cv05: I'm going to order the retractable hose from them. Do I need to order any Hoselink adapter to connect to my existing tap? Or some generic adapter from Bunnings can work?
                Thanks

                • +1

@Averell: I'm not sure sorry. Hoselink have a helpful chat popup on their website though.

                • +1

@Averell: No you don't. Hoselink comes with it's own tap fitting but you will need to remove the old tap fitting before installing the hoselink one.

  • Any ideas how to bring this to $50 for postage?

    • +9

      Spend another $13.50?

      • That's a lot easier said than done. Just about everything around that price in the ww everyday market seems like dollar store crap.

      • Boom tish

    • @DangerDave11 did you find something suitable? Also looking.

      • I was considering these lawn aerator boots, just to get it above $50, but I don't know if they're any better quality than the $9 Bunnings ones…

        • Don't bother. If they can penetrate the soil it likely didn't need aerating to begin with.

    • Get two.. dual wielding dewilding.. ?

  • Can anyone compare to this https://www.bunnings.com.au/fiskars-4-prongs-xact-weed-pulle…?

Obviously cheaper but better quality etc?

    • +2

I have the fiskars one and can confirm is of very good quality and works very well. Bought it at discount and well worth

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/824342

    • +1

Be prepared for the bunnings one to break, I went through 2 of them. They are fantastic when they work but they don't last long.

      • I've almost broken one of those Fiskars weeders but only by using it to pull something it wasn't designed for.

        How did you break them?

        • Weeding

      • Mine broke too within the first year and wasn't being abused either. From what I've read this is quite common with the Bunnings puller so thinking of giving this a go.

  • +4

Bought this, folds at bottom(they did refund me) , better to get bunnings one

  • find that these weed pullers break/fracture at the plastic parts, probably better off with a full steel construction, had the Fiskars one but it broke day 1, returned it no issues at Bunnings

  • I've heard these break. Probably better off paying the money for the fiskars one

  • +1

What happened to getting on your hands and knees with one of these. Is the average ozbargainer 75 with back issues?

    • +2

Scoliosis mate - might as well be 75

    • +1

Broad shoulders, carrying everyone is getting to me now.

  • +2

I bought this from the last deal and it snapped during the 1st day of use (yes I was following the instruction and didnt do anything silly). However Woolworths Markets Customer Support (and Hoselink) was excellent and sent me a replacement.

Since then, I only used my replacement unit once and I had to be very careful using it… its not strong enough and can easily bend/break if you try to pull weed using little force…

Maybe the Fiskars from Bunnings is a better buy, specially when on sale

  • I've got a similar one from Bunnings and while it does pull out the weeds with the roots it also takes out quite a bit of soil as well.
Anyone else encountered this or have a possible fix?

    • +2

      have a possible fix?

      put the soil back ?

  • Can anyone comment of the quality of the Aldi weed puller? The hoselink one seems not to be strong enough according to what I have read here.
    Thanks.

    • It looked a little cheap and fragile, but that's only from a quick look

      • +1

        Yep expected…thanks

        • The Fiskars one from Bunnings is excellent. A few people have commented about how easily they break but that hasn't been my experience.

The closest I came to breaking one was on a weed the device wasn't designed for and I had almost my entire body weight pressing down on it.

I've since learned the Fiskars is great for weeds with a taproot or small root structure & there are special crowbar-style weeders designed for removing the sort of weeds you will break a Fiskars (or lesser weeder) trying to pull out of the ground.

  • We bought one of these when they first came out, something like five or six years ago. It gets used regularly and has never shown any indication of wear or any issues. Absolute bargain at this price, I’m tempted to buy a spare 😁

    • One of the benefits of being underweight while many people here (potentially overweights from those treat deals) complain about breaking it again and again.

      • Yeah, I don't know if it's a QA issue and some are just brittle? But I don't understand how people are breaking them. Had mine for a good 5 years or so too.
Gets used often. Not stored particularly well and still works fine.

  • Stay away from this. As gentle as I was, it still essentially snapped in half.

  • I am on my 3rd one. Because the first 2 broke.

    • Get the bunning one for lifetime replacement?

      • I think I will when this one breaks.

  • Good tool. Only use it after it rains or watering otherwise it will break.

    • +1

      Good tool.

      and

      it will break.

      😕

  • Can anyone tell me if this works ok on winter grass? Does it take so much soil that I will need to backfill my lawn if I weed a few m2 of winter gras

    • +3

This wouldn't be a good tool for winter grass. This tool is better for weeds with deep roots, like dandelion or paspalum. Winter grass is better removed with a herbicide or by hand (the roots are quite shallow and it's easy to remove).

If you have a significant winter grass issue, I suggest you use a pre-emergent herbicide (such as Spartan). Pre-emergents work by stopping germination in the lawn. You would need to apply it in late February to stop winter grass from germinating. Once you've stopped it for one year it shouldn't come back again.

It is possible to keep applying pre-emergent herbicides every 6 months to eradicate every weed in your lawn. Apply in late February and late August. Just be aware that grass seed won't work if you use pre-emergent herbicide.

      • +1

Thanks a lot. Spartan in Feb it will be. Really appreciate that thorough response! Have been trying to remove it before seed heads emerge but it’s been a losing battle over the past few seasons!

  • Will the cashback work on woolworths marketplace from the woolworths site, or only from everyday rewards?

  • Got one in the last special, worth saving your fingers and back if you have a lot of weeds. Albeit, a long term solution to prevent weeds in the first place us probably best

  • How big is the everyday market? I'm struggling to find another item to make $50 for the free delivery.

    • +1

Also finding it difficult! Please share if you find something.

  • +1

Gonna have to neg this because the shaft of mine snapped in half after about the 20th-ish use. I wasn't abusing it either it was fairly low force.

  • +1

Just got refunded few weeks ago. I bought from previous deal and when I used it, it broke the first time.

    • It took 10 months to get a refund ??

  • +2

I dont know this one but I got the Fiskar one from last deal. It works nothing but perfect. My daughter now enjoys working on the lawn, as the tool is handy and the drink is icy.

  • Is Hoselink a very good brand? I'm thinking of buying retractable hose from them, but I've never spent $250 on a hose before, and I'm not sure how to install it myself.

    • yes I got 4 on my properties

  • While it's definitely better than bending down, this tool still requires physical effort and can still cause back pain. YMMV.

  • +1

Bought one - it arrived and bent on it's first use. Going through refund process now.
