Have this. It's a game changer and easy to pull out weeds. Even fun …

Save your back and get it!

    • -3

      Get a burner

    • +1

Have it too, it feeds those with any amount of OCD

    • This combined with a stirrup hoe have fulfilled all my weed pulling needs. Completely agree it's a game changer

      • +3

How does one stir up a hoe?

        • +15

          refuse to pay her

    • As long as some moisturiser in the soil lol

  • +2

These are great, was using mine this afternoon pulling out paspalum. 😭

    • +1

Work well? The bigger bunches in my lawn look like this would be impossible for this thing to rip out. Might buy it and give it a go.
Wish there was a selective spray that only kills paspalum.

      • +1

This used to be available, not sure if you can find it anywhere as looks like mitre10 and bunnings no longer sell it.

It got moved up schedules or whatever the control is called for chemicals, so us peasants can no longer use it as of January last year I think. Had cianide or something like that in it so the average person couldn't be trusted to handle it.

          • @Bread Pitt: the old man still has some agent orange in the garden shed that he bought at McEwans - he used it for the bindies

            • +1

              @freesteakknives: (profanity) me some people

              • @Franc-T: @Franc-T Comes from the days when you had lead weights for fishing, Hardie plank was made from asbestos, people smoked in the office and aeroplanes and lgbtqia were just letters in the alphabet. Different times my friend, different times. I'm surprised I'm still alive after all the toxins I was exposed to growing up.

      • +1

Yep, it works best after rain when the ground is softened.

You can also get a product called David Gray's crabgrass & clover killer which lists paspalum. Please read all labels for safe use.

      • Works reasonably well for paspalum. For big bunches with deep roots, go slow. I broke the fiskars being too aggressive, and bunnings replaced it.

      • There are a few - bit hard to use in a domestic situation though - DSMA, MSMA etc. Trouble is they usually need to be applied in about 1000L/Ha of water and can only be applied in 17C-30C range etc etc
Easier to manually remove or (my fave) spot spray with glyphosate (Roundup).

  • Reviews say the plastic foot pedal is weak and can break off. What do people who own it say?

    • +4

Apparently it has a 25 year warranty?

    • +1

Also see a lot of 1 star reviews saying it’s flimsy, anyone have this and able to comment?

      • +2

Have had ours for 4 years, still works. I even stomped it into dried hardened clay earth in frustration (at the impossible clay earth). It didn't get through the "concrete" but it didn't break either which quite impressed me, after which I stopped treating it as badly.
Using it on Walter buffalo grass, it pulls out weeds like a legend - you get the weed and not too much of the grass, but on tiftuf, not so great. On tif tuf, it pulls the grass out in giant clumps together with the weed so you end up with golf putting size holes everywhere which you then have to fill with soil. Too much work. Ended up being easier to weed by hand on tiftuf and to weed using this tool on buffalo.

    • +4

I have put mine through its paces. Had it for over 5 years and it has never broke. And I've really never been gentile with it.

    • +6

Can confirm that Bunnings is pretty good with Fiskars products if you have your receipt.

I've broken the hedge shears three times on tough branches and taken them back and had them switched over, no problems.

      • +2

Mine just died after 8 years of use. What are my chances without the receipt? Zero to none?

        • +2

You’d have to contact Fiskars direct I’d say , or go to the actual Bunnings store and try and get them to find it on their system. Would help if you had a bank credit card with dates or amount I guess.

          • +11

@dammit: I did just that, spoke to Fiskars this morning, told them I lost my receipt, they gave me a warranty claim number, went to Bunnings and swapped over for a brand new one. Total of 2min 23sec on the phone. Another plus to go with the Fiskars.

    • +1

We left ours out in the sun for a year and it's still not broken

      • and not used it? why would it be broken then? =P

        • +5

Not sure if you're trying to troll but sun/UV damage and rust are definitely two easy ways to ruin a good tool that has plastic and steel bits

        • +1

I swear you could leave the Sun outside in the Sun on Oz and it would disintegrate within a year!!

    • +2

Can confirm it does break. I ended up getting and all metal knock off from eBay for about $30 instead. Works just as well.

      • +1

Got a link for that one chief? TIA

      • Pretty sure that bit people are saying you use your feet on is just the lever to make the claws work, should just jam it into the weed then pull back against it rather than using your foot to push it down.

        • No the instructions show it as being used to push down with your foot and then pull out weeds using it as a fulcrum. It's only made of plastic though and will break if you try to pull a tough weed out. Mine broke pulling a weed from buffalo lawn.

          • @FrankAbagnaleJr: Mmm the one I bought 5 years or so ago I swear it said the opposite, I don't have the instructions anymore though so you're probably right.

    • +1

I have one. I reckon people try to lever it up with their whole foot on the pedal. You only need to put your toes on the end. It's a fulcrum, it doesn't need to be held down forcefully. If you put your entire foot on it yeah you're gonna snap off the pedal where it meets the body.

    • +1

I broke one after a week of going hard at some paspalums with deep roots. Bunnings replaced it, no questions asked. It's a little flimsy.

Just go slow if the weed has deep roots.

    • +1

Yes. Mine was too flimsy. It started to slip and fail after 2 days of use. Close inspection revealed that he plastic mechanics easily wear away. I returned mine in a broken state and got a cyclone equivalent which is surviving my use ok.

      • Same. Wouldn't grip. Half the time, it just slipped. Bought yesterday, returned to Bunnings this morning for full refund.

    • +1

Roadtest: Sure it can be broken, but I don't think it likely if using under normal circumstances. I a lump of a human and it worked well under the greatest paspalum rosette I could find. Haven't tried on small leaf privot, but guess it will be fine in the right hands and on the right plants. I put a fair bit of grunt on it and the plastic lever foot bar worked well. It also has pump action reload kinda thing. I love it , saves on using nasty forever cancer chemicals or rooting my back. And I can get the sea of paspalum out of the mondo grass. Good exercise as well. Overall score 87/100 ( could have been longer to suit my 194cm build).

  • +2

I tried to purchase this before Christmas and it said $99 delivery. Even with my one pass.
Ended up buying a different model from Woolworths marketplace , had to buy 2 for free postage and gave the other one to the neighbour for Christmas.

    • +1

Damn. Are there neighbours like you out there?

        • +3

No. There's something out there? I just assumed after my city there is another city. I want to believe. I'm in Geelong, next stop Melbourne. 😂 You make a good point though. And I'm part of the problem, I'll backtrack if we coincidentally putting out bins at the same time. I'll find some nothing task to do to buy some time. 😂

      • +2

My elderly neighbour is great, she always brings my bins in , plus if I'm on holidays she puts them out too.

    • +4

      Hey it's me your neighbour

      • Don't be a jerk!

  • +5

Was expecting a deal on cat food

    • +1

This is what Aldi would have named their cat food if Sylvester's was already taken.

  • +6

Yeah this tool is pretty neat when plucking out those pesky weeds! Although note the soil should be somewhat fairly wet because if you are trying to pull it when it hasn’t rain for a while, it’s not that effective. I’d say pulling it a couple of days after it has rained will make it easier to pluck it out ✌️

    • +3

Second this. Would also add, it can take a fair chunk of soil with it, and can be helpful to have a bucket of fresh soil to keep that lawn nice and smooth

      • +6

I would second your second. It does take out a fair chunk of soil. I pull halfway but don't pluck the whole thing out just to loosen the root from the soil. It's pretty easy to pick up after that without leaving holes. It also aerates the soil so I guess that's a plus.

  • +4

I have this. Amazing and great quality. Fiskars warranty is also amazing.

  • Does this work pulling out weeds near the fence?

    • +2

You need to move the fence first.

      • +2

just try the all new Fiskars fence restumper.

    • +1

If you can get a good grip on the weed, it should be no issues then.

  • +2

I had this. Broke 1 year after purchase. Made in Poland.
Now $3 made in China cheapie and knee pad work better for me.

    • Why didn't you just deploy the warranty?

      • +1

Yes. I got refund from Bunnings after some drama because I did not keep the original receipt.
Well, I did not expect something with 25 years warranty would broke so soon…

    • +1

Now $3 made in China cheapie

      link?

      • +2

        This
Surprisingly, the price has been reduced…

        • Ha! That's what I currently use too!

  • +2

Bought one this,I'm very satisfied with it.

    • +4

I have the Amazon one. Probably the original (?). They are good. Much prefer steel over plastic.

Free C&C if that helps anyone

    https://www.mitre10.com.au/fiskars-xact-4-pronged-weed-pulle…

    • +1

Just don't go in store to buy it, mitre 10 don't price match their own online store. Nor do they price match Bunnings.

      • +1

Mitre 10 price matched a hose reel I bought a few weeks ago. Just showed them the Bunnings page at checkout. Easy.

        • +1

Mitre 10 don't have a published price match policy, it's at discretion of the local store.

They didn't want to price match the weed puller this morning, so I instead did a click and collect order in store.

          $30 difference was causing problems.

  • +5

It can be quite addictive pulling out weeds with this gadget.
But I end up leaving lots of holes on the nature strip afterwards.

    • +7

I have 2.5 acres, feel free to drop around and let your addiction run wild. :)

    • +1

I am about to embark on this mission. Neighbours think I'm already nuts. Time to take it next level.

      • Filled 2 large buckets with weeds this afternoon. Didn't even put a dent in it. After a few afternoons it will be looking good. Worth every cent and mental and physical health are satisfied with me applying myself. 😂

    • I have a similar tool - yes the nature strip has been de-weeded, but it does get tiring after a while

  • +3

My 2nd favourite type of weed to pull.

  • +1

Has this. It only works for big enough weeds. Little bitsy ones won't work. But I am happy with them.

    • +6

Guess I'm in luck, I keep putting off doing some weeding so all the weeds in my backyard are enormous.

  • +1

This weed puller makes pulling weeds effortless. Well worth the price.

  • How is this for pulling out paspalum?

  • +12

I had this for 3 months and it broke. Admittedly was used across three gardens and pulled maybe 200+ weeds total over three days. Warranty was fine, but I returned it instead of replacement.

Got the Hoselink instead, far strong so far, now 6 months later. Also seems to grasp and hold the weeds better as well as damaging the ground around it less. Has pulled out hundreds of weeds and still going strong.

Just thought share a users view of them both.

    • +1

Hoselink…..damaging the ground around it less

The Hoselink might cause less damage cos it has 2 thin spikes + 2 jaws, whereas the Fiskars has 4 jaws.

      • Probably. I assumed the 4 jaws would have pulled them out better though (hence getting the Fiskars it first) but it doesn't.

Honestly I'm sure both do the job and work as planned less issues that happen for random reasons. Personally would recommend the hoselink over the Fiskars form own experience, but assume others may do the same.

I think the issue we should all agree on, is how (profanity) annoying and time consuming are weeds.

    • But Hoselink only has 1 year warranty.

      • +1

It cost more in time taking the Fiskars back after three months than the warranty is worth. Everyone should value their things their own way.

For me, having a product break and be worse quality with 25 year warranty costs more in time and effort to me, than a product that is built better, works better and lasts longer. It's $60. After 6 months the Hoselink shows zero signs of wear or possible damage due to a better build quality. The fiskars broke in 3 months. The replacement ones all have the same defect and weak spot on the lever were pressure is applied. It'll break again, just a matter of time.

Each to their own. The Cyclone looks alright with lifetime warranty.

  • +4

Usually a big fan of Fiskars but ended up going with the Cyclone weed puller instead. To me the spring eject felt much better than the Fiskars. Recommend actually going instore and handling these before purchasing online, though that one's not on sale

    • +1

Interesting.. this one has Lifetime Warranty.

    • I almost bought the Cyclone, but then read reviews of it on the Bunnings website and subsequently decided to buy the Fiskars. A random person in Bunnings also mentioned that they bought the Fiskars years ago, and he highly recommends it.

I don't think the spring eject maters too much. It's virtually no effort pulling back the weed ejector. I pulled out a shitload of weeds with the Fiskars and that part is the least tiring.

  • Dammit just bought the hoselink one for 36 from woolies deal….heard this one is better
