YouTube Premium Monthly Subscription: TRY ₺79.99 (~A$3.58) / INR ₹149 (~A$2.69), No VPN Required

Hey Everyone!

I know there are a lot of ways to get YouTube Premium, but currently some of these methods are only available on iOS or require VPN. So, I thought I’d share a method I used recently to get YouTube Premium for Android users (or anyone else looking for a good deal). Please be gentle this is my first time posting something like this. I just spent hours on how to format on Oz :p

EDIT: Hey everyone, based on many comments below, it seems this method no longer works as it used to. It might work initially, but later on, YouTube seems to be asking users to update their payment details to match the country they've selected, like India. It works for a while, but eventually, they prompt you to change it. Personally, I haven’t been contacted yet, even after more than a month. Some people are still having success using the iOS method with a Turkey Apple/iOS account. (Reddit)

As the mods mentioned below, depending on feedback, I’ll consider taking this post down. Feel free to let me know your thoughts! :)

How to Get YouTube Premium with Geo-price (Android/Global Method)

Step 1: Set Up a New Google Account

  1. Create a new Google account.
  2. Once it’s created, click on the profile icon in the top right corner and select “Manage your Google account”.
  3. Go here Google Personal info link
  4. Look for a random address in India or Turkey. You can use any address generator online, or search for one.
  5. Make sure the address is set as India or Turkey in the Google payment center link
    — Important: When entering payment details, ensure you use an India or Turkey address. (Comm bank worked, assuming others would work too)

Step 2: Change Country Settings in Google Play Store

  1. Switch to phone and open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap the profile icon in the top right corner, then go to Settings > General > Account and device preferences.
  3. Make sure the "Country and profiles" setting is set to India or Turkey this is important for the next step.

Step 3: Subscribe to YouTube Premium

  1. Open YouTube either in the app or through Google Chrome (Note: it might not work on PC without a VPN).
  2. In the YouTube app, tap the profile icon in the bottom right corner and select "Get YouTube Premium”.
  3. Choose the payment option in Indian Rupees (INR) or Turkish Lira (TRY) to pay for your subscription at a discounted rate.
  4. Youtube premium

Youtube Plan AUD $ INR ₹ AUD$ Conversion
Individual $16.99 ₹149 $2.69 AUD
Family $32.99 ₹299 $5.39 AUD
Student $10.49 ₹89 $1.60 AUD
Annual $139.99 ₹1489 $26.84 AUD
Youtube Plan AUD $ TRY ₺ AUD$ Conversion
Individual $16.99 ₺79.99 $3.54 AUD
Family $32.99 ₺159.99 $7.08 AUD
Student $10.49 ₺52.99 $2.35 AUD
Annual $139.99 ₺N/A $N/A

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • If you're having trouble, you can try using the app “Fake GPS Location” by Lexa (available on the Google Play Store). I haven’t played around with it, but it kind of helped me for me on one of my accounts.
  • Alternatively, you might need to use a VPN to set the country correctly.

Moderator's Note

We are aware of users commenting that a local form of payment and/or a VPN is required to purchase the subscription. We are also aware that YouTube is cracking down on non-residential subscriptions and forcing subscribers to change to Australian subscriptions after 1 month. We will leave this deal post up to let users decide for themselves whether it is worth the time and effort to attempt this procedure. We encourage you to discuss your experiences and to vote accordingly.

User Potatohead82 has reported success using an alternative procedure which requires a VPN and a WISE card.

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the Aus price for family, I figured it was still around the $15-$20 mark. $30+ is simply stupid.

    • I will be travelling to Turkey next month, I’m thinking to buy some debit cards and see if it would work

  • Thank you ,works for me.. got 3 months free trial as well.

Still had my old acc for disney and using wise

  • can this be then "shared" with our existing google logins?

    • Yes if you have a family plan.

    Local payment required.So useless

the long lasting way is create a local Apple in your country of choice and use Apple gift cards as payment but that will attract a 20 to 30% Apple tax Plus whatever your card dealer adds on top.

    • I see your point, but after looking at Googls docs on valid ways to pay for Premium in each country, there is only listed a few payment methods for popular countries like India and Tyrkey. I suspect Google would have accepted apple account payment in the past in those countries, but no more.

Other Google services (like Google One or Gmail storage space) offer many other ways to pay like PayPal or Apple accounts on top of Visa etc. This is not the case for Youtube Premium

As someone currently on the IND YT premium this no longer works. It worked for the last few years however Google is now saying payment method requires a card issued by an Indian bank. My sub is going to end in December :(

    • I've got the same. I'm wondering if just a simple card change after the date will fix it…

      • +1

I tried to update my payment to another card and it wouldn’t work unfortunately :(
What I have heard though is this still works with either Poland or Taiwan so I’ll be trying that with a vpn come December

    • My Indian YT family plan renewed a couple of days ago without a debit card issue. (Westpac user)

I've also had mine going for a few years.

No good - need local issued credit card

Lol im reading the comments and ill just drop.

    https://grayjay.app

Android based app. Pay once for app and have it for lifetime. Im also not affiliated with the for profit company Futo behind it (futo.org) but i guess somewhat involved in GrapheneOS. Thats about it.

    • So I can't quite understand what it is.
It doesn't look like you get as-free youtube, just an aggregator of some video streaming platforms?

  • Also, isn't this just a copy and paste of the original post detailing VPN registration of international account?

  • +1

I've just been kicked off Indian YT because I don't have a local bank card, so not sure how this method will be any different?

Everyone is offering great alternatives to YouTube Premium itself, but does anyone have a good alternative to Youtube Music? I hate to admit but I love it.

you know what else is great for no ads, Brave browser. no youtube ads.

  • +2

Why not just use Brave browser and save the ~A$2.69 per month?

    • +9

No good for Google TV and phone .

      • +1

You can use brave for phone.

@G-rig: Then they have to pay the dumb tax/ boomer tax

              • +2

@G-rig: I’ve learned, and still learning, that people need to ask for help before helping them. Because most times they are ungrateful, entitled or often abusive when things don’t go perfectly.

        • Is the user interface for brave the same as what you'd find on a desktop or does it look like the YT app?

          • +1

@montorola: YouTube mobile interface. Unless you switch to desktop viewing lol.

            • @Griffindinho: Thanks mate, started using Brave on my android and it's blocking ads perfectly.

After five years of Indian membership, the party is finally coming to an end. It's been real - I'd put the savings at about $10 a month so around $600 in total. Obviously at this point they've got me hook line and sinker and I'll move to a regular sub but it will sting for a while yet.

    • Since when did it stop working? I’m on the same plan via India, for a few years now. And still working. It charges my Australian card. Last payment taken 16 October.

      • Check your emails, it will stop on 5th December, they are doing a big Purge like Netflix did, expect they are telling you in advance when it will happen.

        • Last payment taken 3 days ago and no inbox email.

  • Even using a credit card issued in Turkey is a pain in the butt and google play doesn’t accept it anymore even with a vpn. Still paying with my Turkish card though and it’s fine afaik I just received an email about raising the subscription fee couple of days ago

  • +1

I have been using Turkey for two years with a UK virtual revolut debit card and no issues even once. Haven’t received any emails or any requests. It’s been working amazingly well!

  • I used to be able to get Turkiye yotube premium with no issues by changing the vpn settings to Istanbul

It was time to renew it and I am not able to get the same deals. It keeps showing AUD prices even when I am connected to Turkiye

  • +3

A number of years ago I set up a Philippine PayPal account. After getting kicked out of India because my card wasn't issued there, I have been able to successfully set up in the Philippines using Paypal. I'm not sure it's as easy as it used to be and I don't really remember how I did it at the time. It's not quite as cheap as Turkey/India, but it's a lot better than $33/month for the family.

  • recently got email from google:

YouTube Premium memberships based in India require a form of payment issued in India.

To maintain your membership, please update your form of payment to one issued in India before 5 December 2024. If you do not update your form of payment, your membership will not renew automatically and you will lose access to your YouTube Premium benefits.

    • Same here and my google account settings are in India.

    • +1

Likewise (on 06th Nov). Mine is Pakistan.

      • Same here

    • +1

Hmm this doesn’t bode well…no email as of yet though.

What's the point of paying for a service to not see ads, when it'll just show you ads anyway? Even with YT Premium, "special partners" can still have their ads displayed to you. Giving your money to YouTube is the epitome of the "idiot tax".

    • +2

Can't say I have ever seen an Ad on anything I have ever watched when using Premium (except when the creator includes their own promos within their content). Only cost me $2.60 a month so great value if via (in my case) Pakistan.

    • -6

when you consume something for free, you are the products.

      • +3

But they're paying for a service hence "YouTube premium"

        • They are still the product. They just have the privilege of paying for it too lol

      • +1

        3 deep 5 me

  • Has there been any new updates how to get around it now that they are cracking down on the payments being required locally?

  • +2

Still waiting for my cancellation notice from Google for my Indian sub. Will continue to enjoy it while I still can.

  • -2

I have a Samsung TV, and the Youtube app allows me to skid ad's on free YouTube.

  • +3

If some people just want to get rid of Ads, I have been using “Brave” browser, on windows and on iOS. It’s been great.

    • Can you do the same with the YouTube app

  • Do we still need india payment credit card?

  • +9

    OMG, this worked!
    - Used Brave - incognito mode
    - PIA VPN set to India (on both laptop and phone)
    - I opened the account from laptop (macos)
    - Followed the rest of the steps (2 and 3) on android phone
    - Address taken from here: https://www.coolgenerator.com/in-address-generator
    - Used Wise card as a payment method
    - BOOM!!!! Thanks Op!!!

    • +7

Enjoy it before they came back ask you to update payment method away from Wise.

    • Anything special you need to do when signing up for a wise card?

      • +1

I just opened an account on Wise and submitted the card request which was approved in seconds. Nothing too complicated from memory.

        • does wise have you Indian or Aus address?

    • So can you watch ad-free YouTube Premium video with every browser including Chrome and Edge?

      • No reason why not as Premium doesn't discriminate on Browser used. Just a matter of logging into your Premium account when browsing Youtube.

    • I have an Up travel card, I wonder if it would work?

      • I've been using my Up card for a while now, and it has been working for a year or so, but like everyone else, I got the email saying my card needs to be from India.

    • I'm assuming you needed to create a new account for this, and couldn't bring over all the watch history and subscriptions on your existing account?

    • which country did you choose for thw wise card? I chose India but it doesn't give me a card number to use

  • Anyone here setting a family account and looking for other to join in?

i used to use the VPN sign ups with aussie credit cards but now i have a turkish itunes account which directly pays for youtube and microsoft products. i just have to reload the itunes account every now and then.

    • Is the Microsoft product gamepass?

      • yeh I signed up via oneDrive to get word, & excel etc.

    • i must've jinxed myself because i've just rec'd an email from youtube requesting new payment method.

      • +1

If paying through iTunes and Apple using gift cards how does YouTube know your payment details?

  • Unfortunately it doesn't work for me without VPN. Tried everything that OP said but it says:
"Couldn't complete your purchase. Check that you have the correct country selected in your play account. "

    Country selected is India.

  • Turkey will be 104.99 from next month

    • And India will be ₹195

  • I'd like to trigger a thread we can all get notifications from. Note your country, Premium type, renewal date and the type of email/update info by date you got here, and reply to yourself if it renews or cancels on you. I'll go first.

Yes but this won't work for casting - it failed to cast to my TV.

      • Ah, I've a samsung phone, when I need to cast its with samsung smart view. Never tried casting with youtube before.

    • +4

This app is full of ads itself…

  • Can you sign up for a yearly family plan?

  • Has anyone experienced the issue when using YT premium from a different country on an Android and everything on the playstore is from that country?

  • +10

As others have mentioned, this method no longer works reliably (if it works for you, then you win the OzBargain lotto) as Google is cracking down on these loopholes by requiring payments from the issuing country. The only reliable way to not pay ridiculous Australian prices is to (sigh) pay the Apple tax and use gift cards to subscribe into YouTube premium.

I did this a few days ago, but quick steps on how I did it was -

    1. Create a new Turkey Apple ID
    2. Go to G2A, buy Turkish iTunes gift cards and load onto the new account
    3. Grab an iOS device and sign up to YouTube Premium using the new ID (you might need a VPN for this, I didn't have to)

Note: If you want to sign up for Family (around AUD$9 per month), you probably want to set up your Google family first before signing up, because whoever joins the family will need to have the same payment profile as the owner of the subscription.

Note 2: I've seen people do this with India instead of Turkey, it turns out to be slightly cheaper but I haven't tested this so YMMV

    • +1

So far this seems like the only realistic workaround. I wonder if my 10 year old iPhone would work for this?

    • Can attest to this being the only option that worked for me and was pretty painless. You'll also need to generate a random Turkish address (iTunes will prompt for it late in the process).

    • Can confirm this works with India. Although family cost/month was 389INR, which is just over $7AUD :(

  • I had success in past with vpn. this time I am keep getting "Country not Verified" with vpn on. Has anyone got same message and any way around? Thanks

  • I created a new account and was able to get the YT premium and then invited it to the family group that I previously had. Seems like YT premium from the new account cannot be shared.

Does anyone know how to get around it?

  • For people like myself who use YoutubeMusic, is their an easy solution - For both PC and android ?

I know revanced kind of works, but heard you cant download songs for offline, which tbh i really need.

    • You can download music and video, or music from a video

  • +2

I still haven't broken the news to my google family…
It's been a good couple years.

  • To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to TRY 104.99/month.

Was TRY 79.99/month. So, this deal post will change soon in price. But will see.

  • I got an email a few days ago that my argentina family account will end as i don't have local payment method. I assume there's no workaround?

Has anyone tried paying via google play gift cards via android? (I don't have iphone)
