As part of AliExpress 11.11 sales, the following NVR and camera packages can be had for ATL pricing, if you tick all the boxes. “All the boxes”includes taking advantage of their price drop for singles day, an automatic seller discount, using an AliExpress code, a Reolink Direct code and a coins balance which you may or may not have. It does not include up to $60 more which you may receive from your cashback provider of choice if it is deemed eligible - so the final price may be even cheaper. Given the amount of coupons and discounts already being applied to a sale price item, it’s entirely possible that the transaction will be deemed ineligible, so treat it like a bonus, if you get it.

As briefly as possible, Reolink are a perennial OzBargain favourite due to their solid build quality, bang for buck and zero subscription fees. You can buy direct, from eBay or Amazon, or for a considerable discount from AliExpress. And because they are shipped from NSW, no additional GST is payable on the quoted AliExpress price, albeit they are priced in US dollars by default, so pay in $US with you currency conversion fee free credit card for best rates.

They’ve got a heap of cams, NVRs and combos on sale, but for the purposes of this post on concentrating on one-stop shop NVR and 4 cam packages. And because it’s OzBargain, I’m focusing on the value segment of the market. These are midrange 8MP and 5MP cams which are a couple years old - so are no competition for the latest 12MP and 16MP advanced commercial cams, but are accessible via the NVR or phone app by default and include microSD card slots in addition to the NVR storage. They are reliable, well built with mature firmware including AI functionality with Car/Person/Pet detection and hit that resolution vs file size sweet spot to ensure you have sufficient detail to identify intruders without exhausting the modest but upgradeable 2TB drive too quickly.

2TB RLK 8CH NVR + 4 x 820A 8MP Turret cameras = US$380.96 - Expired (Doesn't ship to Australia)
Minus $10 seller discount, minus $20 store coupon REOLINK1695 minus $60 AliExpress coupon minus 4191 coins = US$249.05 = AU$378.21

2TB RLK 8CH NVR + 4 x 520D4 5MP Turret cams = $US270.00 - Expired (Doesn't ship to Australia)
Minus $10 seller discount, minus $10 store coupon REOLINK1694 minus $40 AliExpress coupon minus 2970 coins = US$180.30 = AU$274.10

Note, in the 8MP range, there are three other choices in turret and bullet designs. It’s generally a matter of personal preference, but turrets generally work better when mounted under soffits, whereas bullets generally work better mounted off walls. The two slightly cheaper options are crippled to ensure they only work with the included NVR, so pay the extra $15 bucks to get the 810A (bullet) or 820A (turret) over the neutered B800 or D800 options.

Granted, you’ll pay a little more if you use the above links and do not have the necessary coins to max out the discount. You can’t link to the coins page in AliExpress app, so ensure you navigate to coins to get the $11 discount rather than the max 5% it caps out at on their main linked page.

Hopefully you’ll qualify for the extra cashback too. If I do, a 4 x 8mp cam + 2TB NVR will have cost me just $328. It’s my intent to use the great reddit support group below to use it as the basis for two seperate systems - one for the folks using the NVR plus 2 of the cams, and one for myself using a SFF minipc running free NVR software Frigate using the other 2 cams. I’ve already got some Duos and Trackmix’s that I’ll use for the different setups thanks to previous OzBargain deals, but there’s some great prices available for other cameras for anyone else looking to max out their other 4 vacant channels. Check out The Hook Up’s channel on YouTube for some great comparisons of their entire camera lineup.

Apologies for the long blurb - I’ve done my best to condense some of the most valuable info of garnered over the past six months since picking up my first Reolink Argus Solar cams after previous deals. Welcome to the wonderful world of CCTV and NVRs…

Amazing description 👌 thank you OP.

    These are insane prices

    • True, indeed good price, not sure if they refurbished. But couldn’t get the $60 voucher same as others mentioned, plus no coins can be used, all up can only managed to get down to $464.55….

  • I think the $60 coupon has been exhausted, do they come back available?

    • Have to find them at the sellers storefront

      • The $60 coupon is an AliExpress coupon, not a seller code.

There’s plenty of alternates available when current ones expire, as listed elsewhere on OzBargain.

I got a $90 one from the store front, i guess your mileage may vary

    Cameras use PoE?

If anyone has used Reolink before, is there a "cloud" component to the set-up,
ie. do we need to sign up to Reolink or need to access the NVR via some cloud-based App ?

    EDIT:
I just read OP's Reddit link , so it's all much clearer now ^_^

Thank You for the write-up, @UncleRico

  • +1

got it for $390 AUD ty

    • How did you do it?

      • +1

I used the codes OP listed + I had about 3200 coins to use not the max of 4191 available on this deal

  • Are these still recommended to be avoided for use with Frigate?

    • +3

I have a few Reolink POE cameras which were originally with a NVR kit. Although they worked fine with the NVR I've been wanting to use them with Frigate instead.
I have been able to get them working but it required using something called neolink as middleware as the cameras don't support standard protocols. I'm considering replacing them to be honest, as they've been nothing but trouble.

In summary, if you only ever plan to use them with the NVR then they're great value etc. But if you even plan on using them with something like Frigate then I would strongly avoid.

I got RLC-520 and RLC-520A cameras working with Frigate:

        height: 480

Note: With the RLC-520A, I have to use the admin user with no password because, well, Reolink is a bit shit, it's impossible to change the admin password (because it requires a non-blank password as the current password in order to change, and the default password is blank), and any additional users you setup are lost on reboot or even just after ten minutes having past. It's odd, and the firmware hasn't been updated since May 2023 (if I recall correctly) to fix these ridiculous bugs.

So, I block them at the firewall from any internet access.

The above took a bit of fiddling around to get it to work, as I was totally unfamiliar with Frigate when I started, and was just copying and pasting from other internet sources.

        • -1

Thanks but this doesn't apply to older cameras as only port 9000 is open, which is what they use to communicate with the NVR via a proprietary protocol. I could choose to continue running them via the NVR as the NVR supports RTSP but it's a bit of a waste of energy if I'm doing all the decoding/detecting and storing of footage on a server anyway…

          • @wittyidea3460: I had to turn on a bunch of services on the RCL-520A cameras to get them to work, but these were on by default for the 520s. Is it not possible to switch on additional service ports on the odler cameras?

I thought the 520s were old. Yours must pre-date mine by a ways.

            • +2

              @TightusAndronicus: Nope. Not possible unfortunately.
Sorry if I came across rude. I do appreciate your reply and attempting to help 🙂

              • +3

@wittyidea3460: No worries. I didn't downvote by the way - I'm not on here enough to get into all that. I'm also old enough that I don't take anything personally (even if it's intended that way) :)

    • +1

The subject is discussed at length on the above Reddit forum. Certainly it has historically been an issue but it is apparently less so with more recent models.

Original cams, esp those without SD card slots or UIDs as included in NVR combo packs, could be used but were certainly more challenging to set up. More recent cams advertising ONVIF functionality and compliance work more seamlessly. In theory. I’m yet to set up any of mine with Frigate but have been encouraged to do so by the many other posters who say it can be done fairly painlessly these days. Certainly thats what Noora from Reolink’s website told me when I enquired early today via their online chat. She said the 810A and 820A included in the above link would work fine with a non-Reolink NVR, but that the B800 and D800’s wouldn’t.

Hopefully her info is correct and I won’t live to regret it, else all cams will be migrated to run off the included NVR.

      • +1

That's good to hear they've changed their ways.

      • +1

I did it about a year ago with 810a’s. I had constant issues, and the software was fairly useless for my use case. Constant issues with out of sync audio, a poor user experience when reviewing footage, and codec (HEVC) playback issues and I just bought the NVR. Haven’t looked back, it’s great and set and forget.

Not perfect, but Frigate was absolutely painful for me with these cameras. It was fine with older h264 cameras from other brands but simply did not play nice for me with Reolink 810a. I could get it to work, but it was a hassle with too many issues. I have a pretty extensive Undaid setup so I’m not a moron with this sort of stuff but man it did my head in at times.

  • Any tips on how to build up more coins?

  • What would be the approx installation cost by a licensed technician?

    • -2

its pretty simple you should be able to do yourself no?

      • +2

Definitely not simple. The licensed electrician charged me $220 for installing one REOLINK Floodlight Camera, a 4K Dual-Lens Wired WiFi. The extensive drilling through the brick wall and wiring installation to a switch socket etc required approximately one hour to complete. Well worth it, though, as I don't have the tools and I am not qualified for it.

    • -1

      $65/hr + Materials.
All depends on your house how long it’ll take. Typical 50% markup on cat6 cable.

4 cable run in typical domestic setup is 1 day typically.
Approx $650 but as I said, all depends, 2 story house changes things, if no overhanging eaves it can things (e.g smashing through the brick/mortar or coming out the ceiling in conduit or duct can change things again).
Bad jobs can be 2-3 days.
      All depends.

Cable runs are generally pretty simple though.

      • Agreed, ive installed myself on a ground floor housecand foumd it not hard just time consuming.
Second storey probs get someone else to do

        • Yah easy.
I mostly work in commercial and haven’t done a huge amount of domestic.
Most domestic will have the cameras installed on ground floor anyway, installing on the upper story means EWP or extension ladders and that instantly doubles the price with a spotter and then equipment hire, (minimum $500 for a small scissor, more if you need a boom).

You’ll also run into the issue of not being a registered cabler, and while nothing should go wrong because data is simple, the work won’t be insured so if something goes wrong, or you pierce some tps or circ you may not be alive.

  • Reolink or Dahua?

    • +6

      Reolink hands down.

      • What's better about them? More user friendly?

        • Nicer interface and everything is so smooth.

    • My Daughter has Reolink, I have Dahua. I prefer Dahua, better interface, more camera tweaking options and most important better image at night, but if price is priority Reolink are ok.

  • What are current Reolink NVR users' impressions of the object recognition?

I'm setting up Frigate to my replace my aging non-AI-capable Reolink NVR, and wondering whether this would be a better and / or easier option.

    • Outstanding! Hope the payment materialises and that others have similar success…

  • Thanks for the great find, how do you get the thousands of coins?
Without coins the best I could get is about us$290.

    • Linked instructions above describing how to build a decent balance pretty quickly. Albeit it takes about ten minutes a day and results in some incidental spending…

Don’t lose too much sleep - the same kit is on special for $734 at https://m.reolink.com/product/rlc-820a/ so US$290/AU$440 is still pretty sharp.

  • How is the AI detection? Can you set it to remember faces so that you don't get dozens of alerts when you're out in the yard?

  • It seems to only be using 1950 of my coins even though I have over 5000. Also I can't seem to find the $60 coupon, is that targeted?

Original $60 coupon must be exhausted, but others are linked above and again below.

      • Is this only on the app?

  • +1

    $413.25 I paid but that's okay.

  • +2

Got the kit with the 4 Turret cameras + 2 additional cameras for about $600, I had no points to redeem.

    Seems a decent price still?

    • +1

Quite likely. What additional cameras did you go for? Conventional wisdom is that it’s not ideal to use all the same cameras for a range of varying usages, so you may have stumbled on a great result.

Alongside the 4 x 820A turrets, I’ve got 2 x Duo 3’s (for wide angle overview), 2 x Trackmix (for pan, tilt and zooming to track individuals), 2 x ColorX for late night ID’ing and 2 of Clear’s 510A’s because they were cheap and I can use them in some secondary areas. I’ve also got 2 Reolink wifi Doorbell’s which the app and NVR can also accept feeds for. Gonna split them across two installations - one via the included NVR for the folks and one via a Frigate install on an old miniPC I’ve got.

      • Are you running the CAT cable yourself?

        • +2

          Yep, that’s the plan.

Got a crimper, a 20m fish tape, 300m of CAT6 and a metric shit-tonne of blind ambition. This could definitely end in tears…

          • @UncleRico: Thoughts on the nanny state of DIY cabling?

            • +4

@impoze: Indifference. Have wired plenty of powerpoints in years gone by and don’t even ask about the power board orgies we ran under our kerosene heaters in the past. Happy to run the risk with some CAT cabling…

      • @UncleRico Can the NVR support the Duo 3 as it is 16MP? I think I might of got the wrong Duo 3 :(

        • Yep, sure can. I believe…

  • If I get PoE cameras, the reddit page recommends a PoE switch between the NVR and camera. Any recommendations? Also, if anyone recently had Ethernet cabling done in Melbourne, how much did it cost?

    • +2

The poe switch isn't necessary tbh, works well without and most of the people don't have one

    • +2

I paid just over $1k to have 3 cameras and the reolink video doorbell installed. It was all through the roof/walls, no external conduits. I don't have any of the required tools or experience with anything electrical, so for me was worth paying an expert to do it.

      • +1

Hey, did you go through an electrician or a specific security company in Melb? I know people say to DIY but some houses have abestos eaves and then cabling with insulation, etc. I'm having a good look if the install is worth it or if i go with say a CX410 wifi version as I have a power plug in the garage or the Altas PT Ultra solar with pre-recording.

        • +1

I went through a security company with licensed electricians, Hypower Security. They originally quoted for 2 workers at $1,600 but the job only needed 1 and he was fast. Very fast, running everywhere, super polite and respectful as well.
I have a double story home and while the cameras are on the lower floor, they put the NVR in a cupboard upstairs so he was on the roof a bunch. Whole job took less than 3 hours.

  • +1

it says out of stock now.
can't be shipped to your address.

    • Yeh I'm seeing the same.

Can get the NVR with 4x 800b4-A or 800D4. It comes up at $444 AUD for me

      • +1

also looks like the price has gone up as well..

  • Wow I paid 580 for a 8ch Reolink back in 2018.

  • The 5MP at $274 is still available (and is arguably the better bang for buck deal with the bigger discount off retail) but the 8MP variants are currently showing as unavailable.

Hopefully they’ll replenish in the morning as is often the case with Reolink AliExpress stock.

    • Im having trouble applying the $60 voucher it says the order value is too low?

      • fixed it, it only works when its showing price in USD, in AUD it won't allow you to apply it

  • +1

All units back in stock again…

  • +1

+vote for the detailed description and info esp around which cameras to choose, thank you!

I’m looking to run a PoE about 50m and have a camera outdoors possibly on a pole with a plastic cover over the top of it (saw some covers online for about $25) - would a turret be better as it is smaller so less likely to be yanked off / damaged by wind etc and possibly easier to cover?

    • +1

Probably not. Turrets seem more suitable to locations under soffits and indoors where they can be mounted immediately beneath a hard surface or ceiling.

I'd be going for a bullet style which are normally used on perpendicular walls or pole mounts, such as the 810A which is one of the options on the first link.

  • Any deals on the wireless ones?
Being wired means you would need ethernet cables everywhere?

    • +1

Being wireless means you would need power outlets everywhere though wouldn't it? Or do they run on batteries?

      • I see, PoE means that the camera runs of the power from the ethernet cables?
Can I have a few mesh routers and the webcam connect to these routers? Will the routers power the webcams?
Or must the webcams be connected to the NVR unit?

        • I'm not sure to be honest. I just know that "wireless" often isn't as straightforward as it sounds.

          • +1

@Never pay retail: Wireless refers to the network connection. You are correct that Wifi cameras still need power from a 240v source or via batteries, typically with solar. The latter cannot run 24/7 and do not have "preroll" where they are constantly recording and prerecord all events, since they typically lie in sleep mode until a PIR function awakes the camera. This can cost you up to 5 seconds footage, often missing entire incidents. Hence why most people relegate solar cams to secondary areas or those where POE or 240v/wifi coverage is limited.

        • 1) Yes POE means both power and data are supplied by the ethernet cables, so long as they are terminated into a POE switch, POE injector or POE compliant NVR, such as this 8ch Reolink.
          2) Which routers? This package includes an NVR, not a router - although much of the functionality is interchangeable. If you have a mesh router with a spare RJ45 port, you could have this NVR connect to it.
          3) A wired router can power the cams if it has POE - most basic WiFi routers do not. However, even they cannot power WiFi cams which require a 240v power outlet for power.
          4) No, it is fine to connect the cams to either a POE switch/router or to the NVR. Power users tend to use the former, whilst ease of use is generally best achieved via the latter.

Lots more spevific details and configurations are outlined in the above linked reddit Reolink forum.

          • @UncleRico: Thanks for the explanation. I think I may go with the Tapo C310P2 as the setup is easier.

            • @congo: No problem at all.

              I've got a wifi Tapo and it works fine, but is no easier setup than wifi Reolink - both still require a power source either 240v or battery/solar - and I actually prefer the Reolink app. Reolink also have a fair range of wifi cams albeit not quite as cheap as their POE gear. See halfway down the page;

              • @UncleRico: I am considering using extended power cords connected to the exterior power outlet.
However, a potential issue could be that intruders may disconnect the cord or switch off the power outlet.

                • @congo: if its poe its usually hidden under the camera

Do it once, do it right. Go wired.

        This.

Ask me how I know, and how much I'll sell you seven slightly used solar/wifi Reolink Argus cameras for…

  • Do these offer good quality? Or should i be looking at 12 or 16MP by paying a bit extra?

    • +2

Don't chase MP, look at the sensor size of the camera, for example a 2mp camera with the same sensor size as a 12-16mp. The 12-16mp would require a lot more light to produce the same brightness of image as the 2mp at night, unless you have stadium lighting at home and only care about day time image then go high MP.

  • Any deal for a single cam?

  • Which option would you recommend for the front yard?

  • When I go to cart its saying "Max discounts & coupon codes auto-applied".
Wont let me add any other codes.

Paid about US$290 (AU$440). CashRewards cashback tracked at $25.

Edit : Should have used Shopback instead as their cap is $50 but anyway.

    • Does in app coupon stack with ShopBack?

      • I just ordered another set from another account and this time I used Shopback and the transaction has tracked with $66.34 cashback. Now whether that would be paid or not that's a different story because none of the coupons are listed on Shopback's website.
