    Buy with coins.

    Always buy with coins…

Further 10% off when you buy from the coins page, and Reolink typically discount generously during the Ali sales, the next of which starts on 1 Oct…

Please explain coins, for those who do not know the mysterious ways of Aliexpress

      • +5

Bare with me, this one takes a little explaining - and the best true way to wrap your head around the earn and redeem options is to start playing with the icons on the Coins page in the app. In brief, on the site or in the app you can earn and redeem coins using various means, as can be seen at; www.aliexpress.com/p/coin-pc-index/index.html - and these coins can be netted off against the listed purchase price of all items. By default this amount is typically capped at 1-5% of purchase price, but by using the coins page/menu, much larger discounts are offered.

If you use the IOS/android app, the landing page has a Coins icon on the left hand side half way down. Clicking on it gives access to a catalogue of items which all have additional discounts for coin redemptions, and multiple other icons and shortcuts which award coins for interaction. To earn coins, there are various means including daily check ins, using different item search methods, rewards for playing their three in-app games, providing reviews, checking tracking and order histories etc. They're essentially a basic rebate system designed to reward frequent app interaction and engagement. Some tasks are painful and repetitive, but the basic daily check in ramps up to a daily 70 point award (equal to 70 US cents or just over one AUD$) in just 5 days, after which you receive that much every day you maintain your check in streak, so it's not too hard to start accruing some decent rebates.

For most items you search or click on within the app, they will subsequently come up in your feed on the Coins page - alongside many similar items - once the app has tracked your interest. So just clicking on the OP's link should be enough to ensure this item shows up on your Coins page once you've clicked through. The Coins page also has a search bar at the top, in which you can type things such as "Reolink NVR". If any seller has the item available with a bigger discount for coin redemption, it will be displayed, typically in the form of, "+ extra X% off" under each item listing. Reolink official storefront usually participates in the extra Ali Sale Days, frequently offering coin-based discounts up to 50% off.

Beware, that Ali's interpretation of "x% off" seldom reconciles, much like the fluid GST which is added to all orders at anywhere between 5-15% depending on which day of the week it is, so the true discount ends up being significantly less. However, the current rack-rate discount still provides a bona-fide 10% discount for coin redemptions, which takes a further $27 off the above price. The coins are also redeemable from the bonus items pages and on various other search screens, albeit the maximised discounts seem to apply solely to searches performed on the Coins page. Note also that the % discount seems to cap out at two identical items ordered at once, so any attempts to use it on the Bundles pages or for multiple pages to get above the US$10 free shipping minimum will typically end in tears…

Better still, it's almost certain to go on sale for a higher amount as of midnight GMT Oct 1, so start collecting those coins!

Happy hunting campers. And a big thanks to No Cure for pointing out this and previous great Reolink deals on Ali Express. Hope the coins tips help someone jag some even better deals on this and other bang for buck Reolink products, not least since unlike Ring and most other doorbell/CCTV systems they don't tie you to subscriptions and ongoing costs. And to the sooks who negged the comment because they begrudged the suggestion of saving an extra 10% or couldn't fathom how to google "how coins in Ali Express work", cry me a river NVR-less buttercups…

    • how to get to coin page?

      • +5

Coins page or My Account > Coins. It's better in the app.

You'll earn more coins with orders too.

        • When I go to the coins page I don't see this particular one at further 10% off. What am I doing wrong…

          • +4

@afayd: Add it to your wishlist and add it to cart and leave it there for a couple days. It should popup on your coins page.

          • @afayd: You're right - yours is showing 11% off AU$276.69, presumably just as a rounding issue since you default to AUD rather than USD.

Different items all have different discount rates, even from the same seller.

Haven't seen any such sales discounts as yet…

This or Synology Surveillance Station? I'm in 2 minds, I have a Terramaster NAS with XPenology on it but would need licenses and a PoE switch

    • +1

Synology also needs license if you run more than 2 cams and need PoE switch.
I reckon this is bang for bucks.

      • +1

        more info pls.
        i have ds1522 and ds1520

        • Mine is DS920 and it connects to a router.
For PoE cameras, they connect to a PoE switch which connects to the router. For WiFi cameras, they directly connect to the router.
The cameras should support either ONVIF or RTSP protocol to be able to integrate with Synology.

      • I'd like to know more, please.
Can i hook up Eufy cams to this? And, where to find the Surveillance Station ??

        • Surveillance Station is an app built for running inside a Synology NAS device. I suspect some Eufy cams would not be compatible, as many of them don't appear to support the ONVIF protocol.

If you have Eufy devices, you would almost certainly be be better off with Eufy's own version of an NVR, which is called a Homebase.

        • like @klaw81 says, you can hook up any camera that supports ONVIF. But if you already has cameras of good brand, better stick with it.
configuring Synology and the cameras could be very tiring… And for ONVIF cameras, probably you won't get alert notifications (or maybe I'm too lazy to do research)

          • @JackieCh: Thanks, Where did you find the Surveillance app you spoke of? I can't find a cracked version anywhere.

Off topic but I’m looking for a camera system /nvr that supports cloud backups for 3-7 days
The purpose is so that if I did actually get robbed then I’d be able to see the footage (as more recently I did get robbed and they simply just took the NVR with them)
I’ve had quotes for a dahua and hikvision system but the contractors said they cannot connect it to cloud
    Thank you in advance

      savage…

i ended up taking a really scenic way to get cloud storage using debian (linux) to run agent dvr then set it up to save the files locally to that pc as well as sync the save file to my NAS (so I had it saved on the debian PC and on the NAS), then setup a sync with my onedrive account as well so that there was an additional save on OneDrive.

This was a step by step if you are inclined to go that pathway. I am by no means competent in linux so there may be a more efficient way to do it but this was how I set it up :)

      https://www.reddit.com/r/debian/comments/1dlpnb9/comment/lb2…

      • So just to confirm, you are not using a standalone nvr but instead have the cameras feeding into the linux system, which then syncs with onedrive?

        • yup - just using standard POE to power cameras and then ethernet connection back to my debian pc. the data is saved onto the debian internal HDD, sync'd to my NAS via ethernet and also sync'd to my onedrive.

          • @kamelataturd: So you do not need to buy this NVR
Great work, I will get Hikvison from taobao and try

            • @Cataclysm: just need to make sure it has onvid and is compatible with agent dvr (usually if you google agentdvr and the camera it will come up with instructions to install)

              • @kamelataturd: oops sorry it doesnt need to have onvid, you can add non-onvid cameras also - but just check agentdvr instructions for how to add

      • i do similar.
Camera > frigate on a linux vm > save to nas
\> home assistant detect person event > save to nas > sync to onedrive

Hide a second NVR in the roof?

      • Tricky for fire risk etc. but hiding is a good idea in general.

      • Won't last with WA sun!

    • +2

Do you have an appletv/homepod and pay for icloud?

You can use scrypted to turn the ipcam into a fake HomeKit one, then apple lets you store for a while in the cloud (and it doesn’t count towards your storage quota).

      https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/icloud/mme054c72692/ic…

      50gb -1cam
      200gb - 5cams
      1tb - unlimited

    • +1

Wow that sucks. Did you have your NVR unit out in the open?

    • As someone else said; buy a 2nd one and hide it. Life hackster on youtube has a video on it for the reolink.
Reolink does have a cloud service. You get one camera backup free but only certain models are supported. I'm not sure if you pay then model restriction changes.
Also if you have stand alone cameras (not D800 etc) then you can put a memory card in each camera and get them to save motion to that as well as 24/7 to the NVR (I believe).

    • +1

Install your NVR into the top of a cupboard and just screw a wooden box under it so it's not visible?

    • +1

Very sorry to hear that! The Reolink does support FTP upload, so you can use an FTP service to backup your system. That is what I have setup for mine. I have Wasabi S3 for my cloud backups and it supports FTP. I just set up a bucket and it uploads everything. Keep in mind though, you might need a decent upload. I setup mine a few days ago and for my 10 cameras, it is about 200GB of upload a day.

    • I think the easier version here is simply installing it in a location which isn't accessible. Reolink do offer a cloud subscription, unsure how it integrates with the NVR. I got the NVR and am very happy with it as I was so sick of stuffing about with Frigate/BlueIris and just wanted something plug and play.

    • +2

Do your cameras accept a micro SD card?
If they do you could add that as a backup.

    • -1

You have the option of uploading to an FTP site on events, and Reolink does offer cloud backup for a subscription. You could also put SD cards in the camera, so the footage is saved in two places.

    • I have Reolink cameras and no NVR yet. Added 64Gb SD cards to all cameras. They are enough for multi day backups. I can access them via client software on my laptop or on Mobile. Considering an NVR so my display tablet on the wall can show all cameras on the same screen via Home Automation (still researching this though). For the thought that they take cameras as well (with SD cards) then cloud backup option is the best. Reolink has this service as a paid option. Hope this helps.

  • Thanks OP, been considering this NVR setup for a while.
Any deal for RLN16-410? Also how loud is this unit? Is the noise really that bad as per some reviews?
    TIA 🙏

    • +2

I have the rln16. It's loud enough that I have muffled the fan output. It never seems to get remotely hot and the fan makes more noise than airflow. Some suggest you can disconnect it. I have not been that brave. I suggest you would only need the fan if it was racked with other equipment.

      • +4

Some people have replaced the fan with a Noctua branded one that is quieter.

    • +1

I have a RLN16 and it would be no louder than a NAS really. Mine is in the cupboard and I barely hear it. I think my desktop computer is about the same sound as the NVR. I have all of my networking equipment and NVR in a cupboard, don't really hear it.

    • I have the RLN16 and personally thought the fan was too loud (NVR is under my desk) Replaced with the Noctua and it’s night and day, highly recommend the swap. I’ve had no issues with my 5 Reolink cams and the NVR.

  • +2

Paid with Google Pay, it proceeded in USD, brought the price down even further to $252 in AUD.

  • -1

Can you use this with any PoE camera or does it specifically need to be Reolink

    • Reolink only

      • Actually works with other cameras, but all comes down to a bit of 'luck of the draw' depending how the manufacturer has done the software on their cameras. I wouldn't recommend it though, unless integrating the odd camera without the expectation of flawless results (ie, I added a tplink camera for my 3d printer, it works fine but not used for anything critical).

        • Yes, I have been reading/watching the reviews, looks like not that reliable even if you are lucky. Not worth doing it, perhaps a synology surveillance if using combination of different brand cameras.

    • It can record footage from any camera that supports ONVIF.

      https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004384713-G…

But some of the more advanced features will only work with Reolink cameras.

  • As my pre-existing 3 camera set up has died, how easy is this to set up? Need something I can either use existing cameras or replace them and just a simple plug and play thing

    • I just installed my own Reolink system, and it was so easy; it really was plug-and-play. I replaced a previous 12v+BNC system so I was able to just attach the new CAT6 cable to the existing cables and just pull it through which was easier. Mount the new camera, plug into NVR and bang, done. Very easy and super simple!

      • +1

I had an easier time with Cat6 already run, but I have to say that the Reolink setup really was stoopid easy. Mine has been running great.

      • What camera did you end up going with?

        • +3

          I got multiple.

          • RLK16-800D8-A – Smart Security Kit in 4K UHD (NVR 16 Channel with 8 Dome Cameras)
          • Reolink RLC-830A - PTZ Camera
          • RLC-811A-4K Smart PoE Camera with Spotlight & Color Night Vision - Bullet Camera
          • RLC-843A - Smart 4K PoE IK10 Camera with 5X Optical Zoom - Dome Camera
          • Reolink Duo 2 PoE - 180 Degree Camera

I am going to do a little blog write up about my install at some point, but I love the cameras. So much better than my previous system.

Consider this upgrade as well as HDD upgrade as this unit does not have an internal fan.

  • +1

I've got a Reolink system and I love it. I've even got wireless cameras set up to my NVR in places where I haven't been able to run an ethernet cable

    Footage is nice and clear
App is pretty good and lets me download to my phone
Cameras are cheap and decent quality (not commercial grade but I don't care)

Most importantly it was real easy to set up and run. I replaced existing HikVision cameras and NVR with a Reolink.

I want to upgrade my 8 channel NVR to a 16 channel NVR so I can add more cameras. If there is a way to add 2 cameras to 1 PoE cable, then I can add even more cameras!

  • Probably obvious for the power users, but just wanted to point out if you have a home assistant or similar home server setup with decent storage, you can get most of the functionality of this by setting up an FTPS server on it and pointing the cameras to it.
Cheap and space efficient option if it suits you.

    • I have Home Assistant and use Reolink cameras for various automations, but also have a dedicated Reolink NVR to store footage.

I might play with software NVR and advanced detections within Home Assistant at some point, but I want my NVR to be utterly dependable and dedicated hardware is great for that.

      • sure, and fair enough. just pointing out you don't need to spend a few hundred for this box if you already have a server in use - because it took me a while to figure that out!

      • Does the NVR pass through to homeassist?

        • -1

I believe they are, but I am not certain.

My cameras are all plugged into PoE switches rather than directly into the NVR (my network is weirdly broken up over two buildings).

  • Good deal. Now any deal on the PoE cameras that goes well with this OP? :)

  • Is this the same as: https://reolink.com/au/product/rln8-410/

Reolink website says "support up to 16MP" whilst Aliexpress states "support up to 12MP"?

  • I am curious if this is the latest hardware version (N7MB01)?

  • +1

Op, seems the code is not working anymore, is that the case
