I was told you need a subscription for recording and also for some of the more useful features. I think you can remote view without but I am not sure about that.
You can use your Ring devices (doorbell and cameras) without a subscription, allowing you to receive real-time notifications and view live video, but you won't have access to features like video recording and storage.
So in theory if your house got robbed, you'll be able to see it live but can't review any footage.
