Is this your method of cannibalising parts from 4x vehicles to keep 1 running when this company goes under ? ha ha ha

  • Same questions asked of Tesla when they only had the S and was offering lifetime charge and 10 year warranties. The Xpeng (on top of the awkward name) is taking a fairly high risk launch strategy by partnering with none-standard car distribution channels to market. In a way it actually makes sense for an EV maker to not work with dealership networks but its not something the consumer is familiar with in Aus and i reckon it will hurt their sales. BYD had it tough for a few years and i think they have deeper pockets than Xpeng. The G9 though looks really good…

  • +3

Are most of the down votes coming from mad tesla scammed buyers?
Musk the cuck & fraud loves you all for your contribution

I don't see the point of Chinese EV when they are more expensive than Tesla Model Y (base model vs base model). In fact, the price isn't even the huge factor when you could save money by buying a Tesla with a novated lease. Chinese will come out and claim why Chinese EV are 'better' due to various perks, but I think pretty much every point is countered by the fact that Tesla has better support network in Australia. No wonder Tesla 3 & Y are outselling Chinese EV by a wide margin. Chinese EV aren't just competitive.

    • This initial launch price will inevitably drop, and I think it will drop significantly, especially once the MY25 MG ZS EV excite comes out.

      • Then whats the point of set up that price. People can always wait.

    • I do agree despite my comment above. At this price no one will buy G6. I suspect this pricing is to test out the market and build their network. Give it another year when the real price war starts. you can look at the chinese domestic market where Tesla is really struggling to see what's coming

      • -1

Well this isn't China which supports own EV manufacturers with subsidies & where Chinese are encouraged to buy Chinese EV. Again, the only thing that goes for Chinese EV are the prices. Eg) When BYD increased their prices for Atto 3, the sales figures of Atto 3 have gradually declined over the time as the people start to realise that Tesla 3 & Y offer cheaper prices for their base models.

        Chinese EV aren't just comeptitve.

      • Give it another year when the real price war starts

Yes, that's when Trump settles in, and will most likely impose tariffs on Chinese EVs, and possibly also encourage AUKUS members to do the same.

    • Very true. wishful pricing but I'd bet a dollar the intro price drops by $3,000 within 2-3 months

    • You should use past tense.

Look at October car sales in Australia. No Tesla in the top 20 vehicles. But the MG4 is. Sold more than 3 & Y combined! Price makes a difference…

And on a world-wide basis, BYD sold a lot more cars than Tesla, about 3 times as many cars all up, but that includes hybrids. Even stripping out hybrids, BYD sold more pure EVs.

  • Hows warranty on parts work, no labour included for the extended warranty?

  • +1

New brand wants a foothold in the local market, and prices themselves 'just' under Tesla?

Yeah nah… they need to do much better than that if they think they'll sell anything here.

Dodgy. Anyone buying these must be crazy! They could be gone in two years!

    • Cos your mustang is so slow at every red light next to an mg4 XPower?

      • Trust me whatever speed your PENG PENG or MG shitter can take off with your girl would still cringe getting into MG4 instead of a mustang 🤪

      • Do you gauge the quality of a car of how quickly it accelerates? If so, the MG3 X Power is a fail then.

        • Must be nice calling a non existent car a failure. Do you even know your ev you icehead??? Too much petrol sniffing going on.

          • @ChickenAdobo: Oh MG4 my bad, so sorry!

My comment still stands. EV cringe goes as far as how good the acceleration is. That is all.

  • +1

More dumping of crap cars in Australia by China.
Its an unknown brand, 3 service center/dealers (if the comments on pg1 are correct), are over priced compared to what else is around and there is zero expectation that the brand will be around in a couple of years let along 8-10 years.
This whole EV thing isn't green when this is the junk thats being made and dumped.

  • Why so many upvotes? is it cheapest EV in market ?

    • upvotes by china 50cents army yux

  • Not a fan of the aesthetics tbh. Too much like a mazda 3 crossed with a hyundai front end.

Would go the deepal or ev5 when its due in aus for the money.

    • Plus a bit of Porsche, especially the Macan rear.

    • The EV5 has landed. Kia has been calling me to come and have a test drive but haven't had time yet.

  • Toyota is better :)

    • They sold 5,000 RAV4 in Australia in October, 18,500 across the line up, that's like 600 cars a day.

    • +2

You're not comparing like for like, but even at $10,000 more the Toyota bzx4 seems to review similarly or worse than this car…

I get brand loyalty is a thing but you are missing out just by sticking blindly to a company that isn't doing well in the EV space.

      • The Xpeng is barely in this space so bit harsh to compare with Toyota BZ4X that is selling reasonably well. I'd wager that the BZ4X will sell more than this Xpeng

        • Reasonably well? 771 sales January to September. Mostly people who buy a brand, not the qualities of the specific product.

      • by sticking blindly to a company that isn't doing well in the EV space.

Akio Toyoda said that EV's are not Toyota's strategy, Hybrids are. He said most people don't want EV's and he is 100% right so far - VFACTS data says Hybrid sales were up 89% in the last 12 months, EV sales were down 27%

So it seems that most people prefer hybrids to EV's, so it will be a tough time for the dozen or so new Chinese EV companies that opened here recently don't you think? -27% is not sustainable in anyone's language. Toyota is currently selling 3x more vehicles than ALL EVs combined. I'm not brand loyal, but I do like to have a handle on reality.

    • +1

not sure if Toyota is worth the premium. for their ICE/hybrid products Toyota has earned their stripes, I doubt anyone will dispute that. EV cars are a whole different beast and they are late to the game. even Tesla has more to bring to the table with their software and charging network

      • Ev cars arent a different beast at all. Literally still a car.

        • I suppose you can call both a flashlight and a kerosene torch "literally still a light source"

          • @May4th: Terrible analogy

            • @Brick Tamland: fair enough, not my best attempts..
I guess I'm trying to say Toyota's biggest advantage is in the reliability of their ICE engine
EVs don't have an engine. It's literally a battery pack and motor stuck on a chassis, there's a lot less parts to break down. Sure Toyotas will be well put together, but it's not the most critical part of an EV car which is the battery, hence no reason to pay a premium on a Toyota like you would for an ICE

              • +1

@May4th: I do agree cars or EV's in this case will be more of a commoditised product. I wouldnt be surprised if Toyota started using BYD batteries which seems to be the rumours going around. Maybe higher-end Lexus style cars may get their own Toyota designed solid state batt to differentiate it.

              • -1

                @May4th:

hence no reason to pay a premium on a Toyota like you would for an ICE

Unless you don't want an EV, which latest sales figures tell us that 93% of buyers chose not to this year, then you might go for a Toyota.

  • Nice good to see more competition! This is pretty much only a good thing, just means lower prices for all.

    • It's $55k to $65k. Honest question. Where are these lower prices? BYD stated that aren't going to engage in a price war in the Australian market. Tesla definitely won't. Yes, they'll drop their prices slowly over time but where is the flood of these cheap chinese EVs? Everyone has been saying HODL for cheaper EVs but it's only really been MG dropping EV prices. I'm guessing see will say "next year" like always.

  • Looks like no salary-sacrifice leasing available for this deal.

XPENG Australia Launch Offer:>Complimentary 10-Year Extended Warranty and First-Year Servicing

    Terms and Conditions

    1. Promotion Period

    - The promotion is valid from orders placed between 8 November, 2024 to 31 December, 2024 (the “Promotion Period”).
    - XPENG Australia reserves the right to extend or shorten the Promo.on Period at its discretion.

    1. Eligibility

    - This offer is available only to customers who:
    - Are residents of Australia.
    - Purchase a new XPENG G6 from an authorised XPENG dealership in Australia during the
    Promo.on Period.
    - Fleet, corporate, and government customers are excluded from this promotion.
    - Pre-owned vehicles or vehicles purchased outside of Australia are not eligible.

    • Does this mean no novated leasing?

      • I have the same query.

I think "fleet" probably means the leasing companies cannot get this promotion, ie. to have this model in their 'fleet' of cars.

  • They worked hard to make sure its uglier than Model Y.

    • agreed..G6 styling is horrible..G9 looks much better.

  • +1

Just came back from the Sydney Ev thing at ICC. The xpeng had horrible paint job on the x6. Since it was black it was obvious. The guy made excuse about being a model from China that sent to demo it and not the final version. I can't believe the paint be bad

    • You mean on the g9 or x9? The g6 on display was the orange and grey not black.

      • It was the G9. The one if the corner facing the building corner. While the rest were facing the rest of the booths. I have to say the zeekr was surprisingly nice.

  • Does this have lidar and XNGP same as the one in China?

    • I don't think so - I think the models in overseas markets (Europe, other asian countries like Malaysia/Thailand/etc and Aus) only use cameras (12) and radars (5) - which likely means their full autopilot thing (equivalent to Tesla's) is different/not available (plus given it probably wouldn't even be legal on our roads anyway)

  • +14

Unfortunately people need to look at the bigger picture with XPeng G6 service costs.

During the 10 year warranty period, service intervals are 12 months or 20,000KM. However XPeng as of 09/11/2024 has only published servicing costs for the first 5 years, and they say "Prices quoted are for services completed from 1 November 2024 to 30 June 2025." meaning it is likely to go up some time next year, so don't treat these prices as "capped price servicing".

Also, 12 month and 20,000KM intervals are far shorter than what an EV needs. Most brands in the industry are either 24 month / 40,000KM or like Tesla, have no intervals.

12 month / 20,000KM intervals are a cash grab and nothing else.

All prices are inclusive of GST.

1st year: $238 (free for now)
    2nd year: $631
    3rd year: $238
    4th year: $719
    5th year: $238

Taking into account first year free service, average servicing cost for the first five years is a whopping $365.20 pear year.

Judging by their pattern of $2XX and $6XX/$7XX service prices, the next 5 years should be:

    6th year: $631
    7th year: $238
    8th year: $719
    9th year: $238
    10th year: $631

Which brings the theoretical cost of servicing over the first 10 years (including "free" first year service), if you choose to get your XPeng G6 serviced by Ultra Tune, to be $4283 or $428.30 per year.

You might be thinking why the prices are so high, this is because XPeng has chosen to replace a lot of parts well before they need replacing. Also you best believe Ultra Tune only agreed to this deal if they can rip customers a stupidly higher hourly rate.

Why did I even bother doing the maths? Because it's a (profanity) scam! All these companies, BYD, XPeng, Deepal, Smart, Zeekr, and probably the incoming Geely brand as well, are all going through "distributors" rather than having an official presence from the brand.

What this means for the end consumer is there is a lot of "fat" in between each layer between the production of the car, and when the end-users ends up with one in their hands.

BYD was going to come to our market with an in-house approach similar to Tesla, but last minute pulled the plug on that plan and went with Mycar and Eagers. This cuts BYD's costs at the expense of higher servicing prices for consumers.

The next brand to hit our market using an in-house approach will be the next big player like Tesla.

    • -1

The next brand to hit our market using an in-house approach will be the next big player like Tesla.

BYD is a big player already.

      • +1

        By what metric?

        Sales? Behind Tesla and MG.

Service costs? Higher than Tesla and MG.

I guess it depends on perspective? When I say big player, I mean the brand would be synonymous to "EV".

Right now I would say most of the general public has no idea what a BYD is. I wouldn't that a "big player" in our market.

        • +1

it's the 2nd biggest EV brand behind Tesla.. 12k sales so far this year behind Tesla's 30k, well ahead of MG's not quite 4k which has been in the local market a lot longer. give it time, it's a new player. globally it outsells Tesla as the world's leading producer of EVs - accounting for more than 21%, although this includes PHEVs as well as BEVs

if you add BYD's new SL6 (PHEV) that's another 3k in just one quarter

    • Glad you mentioned this, EVs are simple and have minimal maintenance and Xpeng want to charge this high amount of money for servicing. The servicing schedule every 2 years says replace the hydraulic oil and filter 😲

  • deng xiao peng's now deceased, favourite car

    • Don't insult Mr Deng with this piece of crap. His favorite is Hongqi.

With solar feed in tarrifs dropping personally I won't be buying an EV unless it supports V2H/V2G. Given how fast the EV landscape is changing I don't think now is a good time to buy if you're wanting to keep the car for several years.

    • -1

This doesn't? You'd have to be an idiot to buy an ev that doesn't have V2L at a minimum

  • -1

These Chinese electric cars are becoming so tempting now their quality has improved and they are backing up their offers with solid 10 years warranties.
Shame my Toyota arrived a few months ago or I’d have some serous thinking to do.
I really like the look of this particular vehicle and if the extended range model ever found itself priced closer to $50k I think I’d have no choice lol

  • -4

  • How much is the service cost? Per year?

  • Never mind it’s all suv no sedans or coupes

What next? Indian SUV and Pakistan EV

  • I don't understand the hight service cost for EV cars, I feel the competition is not enough.

    • I personally wouldn’t bother servicing EV cars. It’s a scam as all they do is top up fluids and run a pointless battery check. I suspect warranty may be void if you don’t service the car???

      • I suspect that would be the case.

        • Yeah, we need to consider these costs before buying any cars.

    • +1

The car is also not connecting to 4G but does connect to home wifi - I think there may be a SIM card issue as this is the first car delivered to the Australian market.

      LOL

Very likely due to the car using a Xiaomi 4G module, many of which have been recently network banned by all 3 mobile carriers due to the updated 000 Emergency Services Calling legislation

When a $50K+ car is based on connectivity services, OTA updates and "AI", a robust connectivity platform that has undergone extensive testing in the customer country is a bare minimum requirement

      • Someone posted this on one of the fb xpeng groups. The director of sales responded saying the vin needed to be registered on the app (however that works).

So they could in theory just remotely disable your car if they felt like it? And people pay money for that? China #1!

          • @1st-Amendment:

So they could in theory just remotely disable your car if they felt like it? And people pay money for that? China #1!

USA has legislated "remote disable" of cars, from 2026.

            source:
            https://hothardware.com/news/bidens-infrastructure-bill-mand…

Let us spell it out for you: by 2026, vehicles sold in the US will be required to automatically and silently record various metrics of driver performance, and then make a decision, absent any human oversight, whether the owner will be allowed to use their own vehicle. Even worse, the measure goes on to require that the system be "open" to remote access by "authorized" third parties at any time.

            • +1

@whyisave: It's about time that police chases were replaced with remote vehicle disable - the hard part will be somehow creating a process that only prevents police chases, without a whole bunch of undesirable side effects !!

This might help understand why Trump is so popular… Democrats are turning into CCP-lite…

              • @1st-Amendment: Understood it.

The title was edited here too but I did comment about this here, earlier this year, as "ex-President Biden" and you can read the ensuing replies.

  • That brand would do well in the UK.

"AH THAT CAR IS PENG BRUV!"

  • SB mai Xpeng

  • Their warranty looks dodgy … Almost like a scam. Even the original warranty of five years has a meagre 120000 KM! That extended warranty is a sad joke. Only parts … Free rein to ultratune. I think the Peng have no confidence on their machine. BTW the Felon musk's Tesla has worse warranty - FOUR YRS OR 80000 KM! I do that in two years. Only those with unlimited km warranty will win my vote.

The website looks very similar to BYDs which then also looks similar to Tesla's. Not surprised tbh as Chinese are well known for copying everything.

Predicting a fair few of these smaller Chinese car companies will exit Australia about as quick as they enter.

    • Voted down for facts. OzBargain at it's finest…

Predicting a fair few of these smaller Chinese car companies will exit Australia about as quick as they enter.

ChatGPT tells me that there's 24 EV brands (12 of which are Chinese) currently in Australia and only 47000 sales so far this year that aren't Tesla, so it doesn't leave a lot for the other 23 brands. To compare, Holden were selling 130,000 cars a year when they decided to exit. There simply isn't enough buyers to sustain 24 brands here so exits are a certainty.

  • I'd buy into Exceed / Chery /Jaecoo. They're very very well established.
