The website looks very similar to BYDs which then also looks similar to Tesla's. Not surprised tbh as Chinese are well known for copying everything.

Predicting a fair few of these smaller Chinese car companies will exit Australia about as quick as they enter.

    • Voted down for facts. OzBargain at it's finest…

Predicting a fair few of these smaller Chinese car companies will exit Australia about as quick as they enter.

ChatGPT tells me that there's 24 EV brands (12 of which are Chinese) currently in Australia and only 47000 sales so far this year that aren't Tesla, so it doesn't leave a lot for the other 23 brands. To compare, Holden were selling 130,000 cars a year when they decided to exit. There simply isn't enough buyers to sustain 24 brands here so exits are a certainty.

      • Holden is a whole different story

EV brands are counting on sales to go up (which might not happen)

Australian sales is just an outlet for excess capacity in China. Nobody going to think a country with 27m people is going to be a big profit driver

        • Nobody going to think a country with 27m people is going to be a big profit driver

Gina Rinehart, Frank Lowy, Harry Triguboff etc might have a different opinion…

No for-profit business will continue to operate with sustained losses. Government programs sure, they love to burn money that isn't theirs, but when it's your money you're not going to tolerate flushing it down the toilet year-in, year-out long term.

          • @1st-Amendment:

            Gina Rinehart

That is because she sells iron or to the world not 27m people in Australia

            Frank Lowy

That is because Westfield is basically a shopping monopoly here. Their overseas ventures were not quite as successful. Basically the Woolworths and Coles of shopping centres

            Harry Triguboff

How old is this guy? 80 years old selling apartments. Sure he is a billionaire but nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Australia doesn't have an Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos or anyone in the top 10 for a reason.

Also why Holden ended up being sold to GM then closed is a classic example of why you wouldn't really think Australia would be any type of profit driver. Nissan, Toyota and Mitsubishi come and gone for the same reason.

Sorry to hurt the ego but Australia is good for strip mining for excess profits but not going to be a profit driver.

Think of the big 4 banks. NAB goes to America met with disaster. ANZ expansion into pacific also a disaster. CBA makes AU$10bn has the same market cap as HSBC that makes US$30bn.

BHP and RIO shares used to be (probably still is) 20% cheaper if you by the UK listed shares than Australian listed shares (yes you don't get franking credits in the UK).

The level of cope in this post is next level. Imagine what level of mental gymnastics you have to perform to tell yourself that billion dollar profits aren't real profits lol…

              • @1st-Amendment: Net worth of $1bn is not the same as profits.

Of all those examples I hit back at you all you can come up with is that.

No wonder they call this country degree factories with graduates of dubious skills.

  • I'd buy into Exceed / Chery /Jaecoo. They're very very well established.

    • If you're going to talk the talk ….

      • +1

Well they can't if they are 'deactivated' LOL.

those colours: grey, light gray, dark gray, darker gray, got any grayer?

I drove the G6 at the NRMA drive day, very quiet and easy to drive - although the gear selector stalk where the indicator usually lives caught me unawares.

    • You haven’t driven a model y I guess. Nothing to be surprised.

  • So much talk of car company sales down and potential for companies to withdraw from oz. Doesn't make sense.
Demand for housing is sky-high, and more people are living in their cars now. Shouldn't people be buying up cars and paying more and more ridiculous prices, now that they can be seen as housing?

    • So, combining the house and car, to "save" on electricity bills ?

  • I woun't trust the chinese NMC battery. LFP should be okay. The mercedes benz fires caused by chinese NMC battery.

    • lol it's a cautionary tale buying an european badge thinking it guarantees quality, the EQE is a 140k car yet they opted to cheap out by buying obscure small scale manufacturer (faransis energy) with a history of faulty batteries

stick to CATL/BYD LFP batteries if safety is your biggest concern, Australian Model Y has the latter (soon to change to CATL)

      • completely agree.

      • stick to CATL/BYD LFP batteries

        LFP = Lithion Iron Phosphate

        What is CATL/BYD ?

        • +2

they are the biggest manufacturers of LFP batteries in the world, Tesla uses theirs for their RWD base models

          • @May4th: So, if I am in the market looking for a 2023 Model Y (Long Range or Performance),
how would I know what battery these cars have ? I mean, if I were to 'avoid' the NMC battery.

    • Of course, Mercedes had nothing to do with it

  • Toyato sera was my childhood dream car. Waiting for XPENG P7 launch.

  • I have one, I love it. Highly recommended.

  • The parts are so cheap. Watch out for the labour 🤣

  • Xpeng - 11yo company - 10y warranty …

    Emmmmmm…

  • Why are they specifically calling out car parts and battery?

I smell a bit of a rat, I'd want to read the t&c's. You could specially that parts are only available to authorised dealers who could charge excessive hourly fees, or over state the effort required to change a part, crawling back their losses.

Who are the importers, the manufacturer or an independent? A manufacturer may want to build their brand even if they have to run at a loss, which is something an independent may not have the resources to do.

Without a clear warranty this brand is dead to me.

    • That was quick. TrueEV are the importers and Ultra Tune are currently the authorised service centres

XPENG is a independent not owned by an automotive giant.
