Doesnt seem like a good card for points to me, what am I missing?

    • 80k points bonus is okay
    • yearly fee is huge

Maybe the status credits are worth a bit?

    • +11

Yeah this is odd… for that yearly fee I'd be looking at six-figure points bonus, travel insurance and a lounge pass.

      • +2

Absolutely. 80k points for a card with this sort of annual fee is pretty poor value…

I do acknowledge the 100 status credits, which is an offering very unique to this card, but that amount isn't even halfway to silver status… hardly something to get excited about.

I think a combo of 100 status credits and the $129 voucher justify it in year 1 - at lest for me personally

  • are they still operated by citi?

    • -1

      yeah

    • +1

      NAB I think

      • i am wondering would NAB combine the CITI credit card team to NAB credit card team or not.

I have no issues with NAB credit card application and got rejected by CITI for at least 3 times.

        • Don't know but I have a Citi, and was subsequently approved for a NAB (and hold both concurrently).

Virgin recently reduced the interest free period from 55 to 44 too.
Not that it's a big deal, just noting.

  • Oddly I opened this card last week. When the paperwork came through a few days later it says annual fee was $289 - will be interested to see what they end up charging me.

    • yeah I was going to check that , afaik it has always been $289

      seems to be an increase.

      • Website said 329 when I applied - and the TMD says 329 as of 3 October but the email clearly shows 289 in the table so I’ll push for that if they charge me the 329

I’d opt for the Flyer card. $74 annual fee, $1500 spend each month, 60,000 points, $129 voucher

I applied for the Virgin Flyer card and got declined. Have never been declined before. High income earner, permanent employment, strong credit score

My wife also applied and got approved. Lower income, part time, contract, no idea on credit score, recently opened a Citi card too

I’ve put in an appeal but it’s so frustrating that they seem to reject people for no apparent reason

How likely am I to ‘win’ the reassessment?

    • Unlikely.
      Do you churn a lot?

    • No chance - Banks don't reverse decisions on credit apps.

      • I’ve had this card before with no issue

When can I reapply for this card with some likelihood of being approved?

I really hate how subjective banks seem to be in approving cards

  • The povo Virgin card is much better, has lower spend, only 20k less points, and you make the fee back in a voucher

  • +1

If you can live without the status credits, the regular Flyer card is better value IMO.

30K+30K points for 2x$1500 spends, a $74 annual fee and $129 in travel bank credit seems much easier to achieve.

  • Apparently Velocity Flyer Card has better value given only $74 annual fee with 60k velocity points
Also worth to wait till the next round of 30k bonus points by velocity credit cards

  • We're with Citi and about to start looking at churn options

Citi's card setup is pretty average, under 1 point per dollar spent, need to pay for a 2nd card holder for more than one person to easily access the app for transaction history etc

  • +2

Wow this used to be a 120k card. How the mighty have fallen.

    • +1

Also with the new “classic plus point rewards,” Virgin is about to introduce that 80k is worth more like 40k. There has been a horrible inflation in airline miles. Less seats, more expensive

      https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/velocity-program-chang…

The dynamic pricing means that flights between eastern capital cities will cost up to 18900(!) plus taxes one way

  • You might as well apply for the Citi Premier card at this annual fee price point

  • +1

    Annual fees getting higher.
    Points getting lower.
    VFF points being devalued:

    https://flighthacks.com.au/velocity-program-changes-2024/

Not worth your time IMO. Demand more from your credit cards offers. Don't let the banks screw us further.

    • Transferring to KF miles then.

  • Anyone found any good qantas card deals?

    • Westpac Altitude Qantas Platinum - 60k points for $49 + $75 annual fee. Just need to be an existing customer first to get reduced annual fee. Easy to do, just apply for a free debit card.

      • Thanks! but bugger as I have had westpac in the last 12 months

        • Not bad at least. NAB is an 18 month wait, like amex :(

          • @starburstyellow: bugger again, was just looking at a nab one, im around 13 months so thought I was in the clear

  • This seems like a terrible deal

  • Fees is way to high, if not for points why would pay for BT and Annual fees - not a deal

    • For many frequent flyers - $200 for 200 Status Credits is a steal!
