      • That's for 24 months, it's 765 for 23 months and you can get a refund for the one month paid upfront.

        • +1

          $766.59 to be exact ;)

        • Do you have to cancel within the first month so you get the $99 back?

I had no idea you can get the $99 back, in JB they were completely clueless when i asked and cancelled my contract last month.

Can I still get the $99 back somehow? Thanks in advance

          • @drazenm: Sure but do it soon and helps if you dont use the Sim at all (Afterall you are paying for useage).

            • @G-rig: I didn't activate my sim card at all. I paid 99 in August and cancelled few days after first month passed at JB. I paid end of September the 760.

Do i contact telstra or go to their store for the 99 as JB has no idea it's possible? Thank you

              • @drazenm: JB in store people will say that the $99 can’t be refunded

Best bet is to contact via JB Mobile or Telstra app but I haven’t had luck recently via JB Mobile

              • +3

@drazenm: Telstra chat is easiest mate.
People said say accidentally bought it and don't need the service and haven't used it at all.

                • @G-rig: Thanks heaps i got the refund.

  • Can someone please tell where do i need to pay ETF.? Is it Telstra or JB..?

  • I'm interested in this to get the virtually unlimited high quality Telstra network for around $40 per month and use the $1200 gift card when JB puts the iPhone 16 Pro Max on sale in a few months. But I have 3 questions:

    1) In note 2, it says, "Gift card offer ends 3/10/24." Does that mean you have to port over today to get the gift card? I still have 3 weeks left on my current Amaysim plan. (BTW, in Note 2 it says 2/10 - presumably that's a typo.)

    2) Have people used this as a replacement for nbn/fttb by using your phone's hotspot without issues? Back in the day, some phone plans disallowed Hotspotting and/or Tethering.

    3) Does it say JB Hi-Fi or Telstra on your phone network? I'm not keen on regularly seeing JB Hi-Fi on my phone.

    • +1

      1) Yes, you have to port today. Might be worth trying to ask for a pro-rata refund from Amaysim? Unlikely but worth a shot.

      2) You can hotspot just fine.

      3) It says JB Hi-Fi now, I believe. Telstra has started being cagey about who exactly gets to have use their name.

      • Thanks, dongltron. FYI for other Amaysim customers, I just checked Amaysim and they say there's no refund. Also, I just saw @Headless above say JB Hi-Fi throttles hotspotting, so I might skip this deal.

        • +1

Telstra says that too, but they have relented in the past. Somebody else in this thread said they did so for them. Still, if you don't care, don't bother. Just might be worth a shot.

    • Does it say JB Hi-Fi or Telstra on your phone network? I'm not keen on regularly seeing JB Hi-Fi on my phone.

This plan shows Telstra, not sure about JB Hi-Fi Mobile prepaid.

  • Is it allowed to use this as an NBN alternative, such as in a WiFi modem?

    • You can but it's expensive for that don't you think

  • Finally they have updated that on their website , it’s only for one day . Can’t wait to get it today .

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/upfront-mobile-plans?utm_cam…

  • Anyone successfully got the plan cancelled paying ETF of 766 AUD? I've seen some thread above saying that they've changed to ask for pro rata of 1200 AUD.

    • +6

Don’t listen to them. They’re the keyboard warriors

As stipulated many times in my responses above, you can ask the JB people to show the CIS to you - that’s what you’re signing on.

It’ll be $800 - also confirmed by one of the OzBargainers in the above comments too

    • +4

Don't listen to people trying to stop you from getting a deal. Terms are $800 max Voucher Repayment Fee pro-rated, and its written point blank on the document you will sign.

People keep getting put off by the terms that say the gift card replaces the value of the voucher in the CIS, but they're ignoring the fact that's just telling you what you're receiving. The Voucher Repayment Fee is a separate thing from that never changes.

I haven't done this exact promo, but I did the Pixel 9 Pro XL gift card deal, and the terms/CIS definitely hasn't been updated since then so I know for a fact it'll be $800 minus the first month pro-rate.

JB know people are doing this as various gift card value promos have been going for almost a year now and they still haven't stopped it from happening, so they mustn't care.

  • Im assuming this can't be used with the below for pixel xl, was on JB website until yesterday

    • +1

You’d need to sign up to both plans regardless anyway if they were running coincide together

  • Bonus $1200 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card

Only worth $1080 if you can get 10% off via TCN like in this deal.

Or $1152 when you buy with a 4% discount via Macquarie etc.

    • Yes but you would pay no more than $900 if you cancel straight away. That means you are getting them at 25% off.

  • So is this the highest value gc offered?

Does anyone remember if this kind of deal comes with iphone at all? I saw s24, pixel9 etc but not iphone.

  • So you take off $1200 off of a phone?

So let's say $1800 phone will be left to pay $600 out of pocket plus you'd have to pay $89 first month and if you cancel also the cancellation fee of around $760?

Not much of a deal unless you want just the gift card then it's like $850 to get a $1200 gift card.

    • You are getting gift cards at least 25% off.

  • Its a shame the TV with bundled soundbar deal ended yday.

Would have been able to get the Samsung 98" QN90D (RRP$13,000) for $7070 with this by matching AppliancesOnline retail price, applying the soundbar 17% off discount and then the $1200 giftcard.. Ah well, next time.

  • +2

So in shorest the deal is : pay $850 to get a $1200 gift card….(30% off JB HiFi GC face value)

  • +1

i think yesterday deal was better: Get $1400 off a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL phone* when you switch
your number to JB HI-FI Mobile On a $89 Plan over 24 months #. Plan
Reverts to $99 per month after 24Months

    • Only if you need a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL phone

      • If you need the pixel 9 pro xl, the earlier deal is even better at $1700 off

      • You return the Pixel phone and keep the gift card

  • Okey Dokey, got my card time to cancel the plan

    • +1

Please let us know how it goes

      • Will do

      • +1

Just cancelled, was super easy on chat. Will be charged $766.59. I will try and get telstra to refund the $89 now

        • +1

Hi, been looking for info on how to cancel this- was it via Telstra or JB please?

And do you know if the gift card has an expiry date? I won't be using it for another 2 weeks

          • +2

@discountdiva: Log into the jbhifi mobile app. You will receive your login details on sign up. Once logged in , click the chat button and all i did was type cancel contract. From there it was a 5 min process. The stated the cis fee and i said yes pkease proceed. Now the 2nd part is to go to Telstra to see if i can get the $89 refunded. If not im still in front. The gift card has no expiry

            • @tnarg: Thanks so much!!

            • @tnarg: How did you go with the 2nd part for refunding with $89 ?

              • @jayzlolz: Haven't got around to that yet, but another in the thread said they went into a telstra shop and was successful

              • @jayzlolz: Jumped on Telstra chat this morning and they have said they will process the $89 refund

  • So has anyone accomplished this today? Can we get some reports from the field ;)

    • Look at my response above

    • +1

Ok I just did it, cancelled via chat..

  • +5

Just signed up and can confirm the early termination fee is still $800.

Edit: Wasn't able to get the first month credited back. ETC ended up being $766.59
    Total cost was $766.59 + $89 = $855.59

Note that I didn't fight for the credit.

    • Can you plz elaborate on the "fight for credit"? What is it?

      • They didn't fight for the first month charge back of $89

        • Correct.

That being said, I went onto Telstra chat (I cancelled by calling through to the JB Mobile line) and they said give it a few days for the payment to clear and they'll refund it.

See how I go in a few days.

  • +3

Successfully got the $1,200 gift card and cancelled today. Live chat excerpt while in the process of cancelling: "…cancelling your service will…trigger voucher ETC's to the amount of $766.59"

    Hope that helps.

    • Does port-in or new number matter?

      • +1

Doesn't matter, I got a new number fwiw

        • Thanks so much, going to do it now :)

    • +1

Do they ask a reason for cancelling?

      • getting quoted 799.92 to cancel and asked why I want to cancel

      • Yes, just say you can't afford it.

        • -2

Ha then why did they just sign up for it. make up your mind!

  • +1

Okay so live report from the field. Got the plan with 1200 GC, 800 ETF, cancelled successfully 10 minutes later within Telstra store with 89 of first month waived.

    • Thanks for confirming. So you paid $800 ETF for cancelling on the same day, not $767 as others have reported?

Did you cancel the plan via Telstra or JB?

      Ta :)

      • Literally says within Telstra store.

        • +1

          Sorry mate haven't had coffee..

        • Not sure how you go about telstra

      • The cancel fee is 766 AUD but I haven't received the email asking me to pay this. Anyway it will be deducted after 10 days from the card you used for sign up.
The cancellation is done within Telstra official store.
Regarding the 89 AUD first moth fee it's still in pending state. Although they promised the refund in the store, they are not able to refund it right away ultil the status changes to confirmed.

        • thanks!

        • It does not need to be done at a Telstra store
          You go through JB mobile

    • +1

Just a fair reminder, lots of personal information is collected as mandatary during sign up including employment and salary as they need to do credit report.
JB staff says this will hit the credit report so maybe just fire your shot once and don't get greedy.

      • Did they ask you for payslips or bank statements?

        • +1

No they didn't but they did ask for the name and phone number of my employer and my salary range. JB staff said they might conduct a credit check. I'm not sure if it's illegal to provide false info to them so I provided the real details.

          • @cdscjy: Wasn't planning to provide false info but wanted to know how extensive their checks are. Now contemplating if I still wanna go or not. Thanks

      • I’m on my fifth go 😊

        • That's the spirit. Go go go.

  • I wish someone would offer a plan with more data (on Telstra network

  • Has anyone transfered from woolworths mobile with this?

    • Don't need a transfer unless you specifically want your number.

    • Yes

  • Hey OzB,

I've been looking for the cheapest way to upgrade to an iPhone 16 pro (256gb @1997) and this seems to be it. My plan is to get this for a $344 discount (potentially +$89 if I'm lucky) on a $1200 gift card and purchase $800 jb gift cards for a 10% discount. However, I need to wait 2 weeks before purchasing the phone so I can meet the 60-day requirement for a tax refund at the airport.

Few questions, might be a bit silly but please be nice
    1. Does the $1200 JB gift card expire?
    2. Any tips on how to get the $89 refunded? Is this via Telstra chat?

    Thanks all

    • I just got the plan. The voucher does not expire.

      1. JB GCs won't expire
      2. Only one way to find out. Ask.
    • Any tips on how to get the $89 refunded? Is this via Telstra chat?

If fail once, try twice and you will eventually succeed. It took me the third time to get the $99 refund.

      • Is it like my case where they told you the refund will be processed after the payment of 89 is confirmed in bank?

    • UPDATE: I got my $1200 gift card and cancelled the service within 1.5hrs! Was told $766.59 ETF though I haven't received the email for that

      Thanks OzB!

  • Anyone that has this plan, can I receive SMS when I'm oversea?

    • Which sea?

      • Mediterranean Sea.

    • +1

      Yes

  • when do you get the JB gift card after signing up?

    • Right after the order in the store.

      • did you pay that $89 on the spot?

        • I did. They processed my $89 payment before giving me the $1200 gift card.
