No no, it’s because the CIS doesn’t get updated to $1200. This remains at $800 despite whatever promo JB runs

  • Cancel deal? If we cancel, what happens to the number?

    • We lose it

      • Unless u transfer away beforehand

      • +1

Not sure why I got negged lol
If we cancel the number, of course you don’t get to keep it

  • "… they can almost request a new number."

    Missed it by that much.

    • It doesn't make sense. So can I request a new number with this deal or not?

  • -5

Do laugh how they include 300gb

Like who is ever going to use that per month.

    • +1

Some who is looking to replace their nbn.

      • +1

Can you use this instead of nbn?

        • +2

Why not? A phone can act as a hotspot and a lot of older folks don’t have a laptop or computer so they just they smartphones to connect to the internet.

        • I did this for a month a while ago. The speed through the phone I was using was 3x what I was getting on the NBN. But it kills the battery life of your phone. It would be better to use it with a modem.

        • I would also like to know this. Some companies say no in their T&Cs and will disconnect you if it's used in a 4g/5g modem/router.

Edit: I found this in their T&Cs:

Your Service, and the allowances included with your service, are for personal and small business use in a smartphone only.

But weirdly the CIS says smartphone or tablet.

    • Just think of it as an ‘unlimited data’ plan which the rest of the world has had for years.
Was good not having to check my data usage for two years when I had this. I didn’t even bother connecting to wifi at home until i wanted to use the local network as 5g was much faster.

    link says $1000 gift card?

    • +1

Use the link in OP’s description

      • +1

        Still can’t see $1200.

Edited: waited, it seems this is for In Store only 🥲

        • Page now updated.

  • +1

Are we sure the CIS hasn’t been updated? I’ve followed these posts for a while and know that it’s never changed BUTTTTT…I just want to make sure. Thank you!

    • +3

Hopefully someone who signs up tomorrow morning can share a copy of their CIS and put everyone at ease.

      • Same will wait till tomorrow morning

      • im ready to purchase, but will wait to see an update tomorrow

    • Any updates?

  • I signed up for jbhifi today, is it possible to switch and get this?

  • -4

According to the jb websit: “If you cancel or move to a lower cost plan then you'll need to pay a JB Hi-Fi Gift Card Repayment Fee pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term if your plan came with a JB Hi-Fi Gift Card at the time of purchase.”

    • +2

3 times this question has been asked already since this deal has been posted lol

      • RIP.

      • So Do we pay the gift card or the 800$ 😀

        • +1

You only have to pay $766.59 voucher repayment fee if you cancel the plan or port the number to another service provider. Once you cancel your plan, you can contact Telstra to get an $89 refund.

          • +1

@jimojr: Contact Telstra from the Telstra website? Do you only get the refund if you cancel straight away? I have mine for over half a month alrdy.

            • +1

@cheapskateasianchic: Yes, chat on their website. I cancelled the plan straight away and contacted them 3 times before getting $99 refund. My friend cancelled the plan after 3 days and got a refund on the first chat 5 days later. Neither of us used the SIM card.

              • @jimojr: and you paid the $800 voucher fee not the extended value?

              • @jimojr: I tried getting the refund via the JB mobile app at the start but that was unsuccessful. Lucky to read your comment, the customer rep I spoke to at Telstra refunded the $99.

    • +3

The fine print on the image says:
“The $1200 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan's minimum term.”
Let’s hope they don’t replace the voucher value in CIS.

As it sounds a bit risky.

  • -1

And too good to be true

    • +1

It does, but both me and a friend did it last month…

      • I’ve done it 5 times now with various deals. It’s not too good to be true…yet

        • +3

I haven’t done it once but considering it today. I’m a little scared :( lol

        • Until you get banned from Telstra and JB haha.
          Fair few credit checks there..

          • +1

@G-rig: Hahaha. “Sorry sir, you’re not allowed into JB Hi Fi stores anymore. You’ve made too many legitimate transactions with our multi-million dollar company.”

            • @SirFrankGrimes: JB mobile.

              • @G-rig: They haven’t banned me so far. If I do get banned, it doesn’t bother me in the slightest!

                • @SirFrankGrimes: You sound like a great guy, haha.

Suppose you got enough different JB stores to go to or they'd know your face by now.

                  • @G-rig: I’m a bang average bloke, but OzBargain isn’t a morality contest haha

  • What if I took a two plans few weeks ago cancelled both so am I eligible for another plan now? Is there a limit per account?

    • Limit of 3 per customer.

Don't know if this is per promotion or just total.

  • +4

Does signing up to this involve a hard inquiry or hit on your credit report/rating?

    • +1

Yes. I had an entry in my credit file.

      • +1

So that means they check your credit score? Mine is really bad

  • -1

Would this be the cheapest way to buy and iPhone 16 pro at the moment? Signup and cancel for the "free" $400. Then use the voucher + 5% discounted JB giftcards.
    E.G. Iphone 16 pro 256gb is $1997 - $400 = $1597 x 95% = $1517.15.

Any way to get it cheaper? My previous plan was to price match costco at officeworks and use 10-15% discounted ultimate giftcards (when/if they ever return) however this seems better.

    • Also, is it guaranteed that you'll get the first month's $89 refunded by Telstra if you do it immediately?

      • Took me 3 attempts on their online chat but eventually they relented after some persuasion when I did it last month

        • +1

So you had already cancelled your plan or you don’t cancel until they promise to refund the first month at the same time?

    • -1

I bought two iPads a few months back and couldn’t get the first month back. Tried with 2 different chats. If I go ahead with this deal tomorrow I’ll try my luck but I’m thinking it’s more likely to be pay $889 and get $1200 vouchers (still amazing).

    • A trade in and/or mobile plan deal would be better, like with the pixels.
      Not many discounts with Apple.

  • Damn, I am with Boost. Can I get a new number from a random supplier to get this deal?

    • Why not?

  • -1

Gaaaah just signed up to the $1000 GC last week. Whats the chances of them swapping it with a $1200?

  • Can I port in from Belong?

    • yes

  • What do they mean by data sharing? Can you have multiple numbers that share this contract or only the data?

    • Just the data. Cheapest data only plan which shares data with this is $19/mth which also gets you an extra 25gb

  • +1

Could I permanently use this plan in a 5g modem?

    • Yes.

      • But you need a VPN to hide that you are hotspotting

        • So is hotspotting banned for this SIM/contract? If yes then technically you can't do it without breaching the contract, even if it is still physically possible to do it with a VPN or similar.

    • Question: what 5G modem is cheap, good quality and works with Telstra?

Currently using MR600 which is 4G+ and speeds are not better than a 100/20 NBN connection.

      • I've got a used Nokia Fastmile I could sell you? Where are you located?

        • How much would a used Nokia Fastmile cost?
          Western Sydney

    • I used it as 5G modem years ago, didn't need VPN.

  • I'm currently looking at the s24 ultra 1tb & if you sign up to this plan you currently receive $1500 off. Does anyone know if this $1200 gift card & bonus $300 gift card will be additional to the $1500 off?

    • If true, that would be the deal of the year :)

    • Yes. Thats correct. $300 GC with the phone will be on top of the $1200 voucher, but you cannot use the $300 GC to reduce or pay the for the phone.

    • I don’t think you can as $1500 off and $300 bonus GC promotion expires today.

  • +1

if i sign up telstra one, can I use the 2nd sim in a modem?

    • theres a second sim?

    • Would love to know this too

The website mentions something about an app on the watch, so maybe not?

      https://www.telstra.com.au/support/mobiles-devices/use-manag…

With Bluetooth turned on, pair your Google Pixel Watch to your phone
When prompted during setup, confirm your Telstra One Number subscription, and your Google Pixel Watch will automatically connect to the Telstra network.

Maybe you can move it to a modem after pairing to a watch?

  • Does anyone know if I sign up for this and use the $1200 voucher to buy a new phone, can I still use the receipt for the phone purchase to get tax back at the airport?

    • +2

Yes you can - you’re still paying full price for the item, it doesn’t matter what the payment source is.

  • Am I stupid in thinking of getting this with their mobile broadband plan?

    Plan 1 for moible) 89 x 24 months = 2136 - 1200 voucher = 936 for 24 months
    Plan 2 for home internet) 69 x 24 months = 1656 - 500 voucher = 1156 for 24 months

Essentially getting uncapped 5g speeds with 500 GB data to use every month along with mobile connection for $87 per month together, if I am going to spend $1700 at JB anyway.

    • There was a question raised above whether the SIM can be used as a 5g modem?

  • +1

Wish they’d do the $500 GC for $69 12mos again. Doubt it though.

  • -2

So wait am I correct in thinking for for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra:

    $1887
    - $1500 ($1500 off)
    + $89 (First month)
    + $89 (Second month)
    + $763 (Cancellation)
    = $1328 + $1500 JB Hi-Fi gift cards?

    • Thats not correct. You are double counting $1500. Also you only need to pay $89 for the 1st month and can cancel then before 2nd payment is charged.

      • -1

Sorry how am I double counting the $1500? I thought you get $1500 off the phone when you sign up to the $89 plan, and then the $300 giftcard + 1200 giftcard. Is that not right?

    • Where are you even getting the $1500 from?

      • Sorry, I might've confused you. I meant

        $1887
        - $1500 ($1500 off)
        + $89 (Second month)
        + $763 (Cancellation)
= $1239 (the amount I have to pay)

        I also get $300 giftcard + $1200 giftcard = $1500 worth of giftcards
