        • That's just my guess, the more choices for consumers the merrier.

      • What if this is an exception and 30k drive-away is as good as it gets?

  • +5

went for test drive this morning, very nice (compared to my manual 07 corolla)
Order placed for one in Black
Know I over paid for the tint, ceramic coat and dashcam but getting to stage in life to just pay for the convenience of them doing it all

    • +3

      Order ozbargain orange, you traitor.

    • +1

      Congrats and enjoy the car.

  • Bought one for business this month and got delivery on 17th only.
Wondering if I would be able to get the difference as below is mentioned in T&Cs

“a. $30,990 driveway price for the MG4 Excite 51 MY24 model without any options applied.
Driveway price includes 12 months registration and compulsory third-party insurance cover. Offers available at participating MG Dealers for new stock vehicles only, sold and delivered between 01 September 2024 to 30
    September 2024. While stock lasts.”

    Any thoughts!!

  • Anyone done insurance quotes on these? I was getting $800-900 a few months ago now quotes are $1400!!?

    • When I was looking at the MG4 Excite 64 the cheapest insurance I could find was $1400 in May 2024. EVs are expensive to insure as minor damage to the under body can write the whole car off.

    • +1

I found good prices at AAMI and RACWA. Around $800 with the default excess (around $800), by increasing excess to $1200 the premium drops to ~$700.

Of course depends on suburb and driving history.

Funny that: lowest fixed insured value I can pick at AAMI is $37k. Market value insurance costs more…

    • Juat did one with RAC $712

  • anyone manage to wrangle any extras outta dealers for these type of deals?

    • It's 10 years, I doubt they'd be willing to go higher.

      • I think he means stuff like floor mats, chargers etc

    • I tried to negotiate but they were very firm at that price and no extra stuff willing to include.

    • Yep, floor mats, dash mat, and premium window tint.

We got all that when (after the test drive and not having much luck negotiating) I picked up the the phone to call a different dealership to see if their demo was still available.

Demo (never driven, just 15km) was/is advertised on Carsales for $27000 with metallic paint, a saving of $1190 over the advertised special (in WA, after $3500 from government the advertised special works out to $27490, and metallic costs $700).

So well, the extra inclusions aren't worth $1200, more like $500, but I was not 100% sure the demo would come with the full 10 years of warranty. And the other dealership was 70km further from home…

According to dealers (maybe sales talk, maybe not) stock levels in WA were getting low around noon today.

      • +3

stock levels in WA were getting low around noon today
Probably sales BS. False urgency is the number 1 car sales tactic

        • +1

I have hearted some mg4 on car sales and 5 of them are marked as sold at the end of today. Who knows how many stock left in the yard.

          • @ChickenAdobo: Dealers will sell stock in their yards but it depends on how much stock is available overall in each state.

  • +13

Thankyou guys bought one from mg berwick for that price and free charger include worth of $1200 at no extra cost black colour.power of ozB.
    Thnks publisher.

    • +2

Thank you for joining OzBee just to say 'thank you'.

    • That s a very good deal. Congrats. Is the car more like a hatchback like VW Gold or more like a small SUV like CX3? Can't really tell from pics.

      • I would say golf size

      • Hatchback. If you want SUV, you'd go ZS EV, which also has some pretty decent specials at the moment. Or wait for the BYD Atto to drop their prices.

      • +4

As the other person mentioned this look same like golf from inside. I took test drive very powerfull car.

The salesperson name is liam he is best man.
I've called to 3 to 4 different MG dealership. All of thm have different offers. I recommend check in person to make a deal. Sorry just forgot to mention i got free matts aswell in this deal..
Car is preety decent from inside all daily need function in it.
I recommend buying this car if you travelling 400 to 500km a week.
Thankyou again to the guy who posted this deal. Also i don't know how to share invoice still learning how to use ozbargain. But invoice say 31000 on it.
        Thanks

        • Sorry just forgot to mention i got free matts aswell in this deal..

Aren't they included in the offer anyway?

    • +1

Was that the MG Charge Hub they included free? Any chance you could share the invoice so we can try other dealers to include?

      • +4

        Sorry for the late reply,
nothing was included i asked for free charger they said sorry we can't the car is already on offer. And i simply walked away and then i called t other dealership. Other dealership offered me a black black car in 30500.
I called to berwick and told that i got an offer from other dealership and they said come back we will throw you a free charger and matts.
        Thanks

        • Great deal there mate. Thank you, I'll call around and see if I can get a charger thrown in. Cheers

    • Do you have name of salesman?

    • Congrats and happy electric motoring.

    • Thank you, Thankyoui.

I called Berwick, and got the free charger as well.
I went to an MG dealership on the West side and they wouldn't give any extras, so I just called Berwick thanks to your comment.

  • +3

This will destroy 2nd hand prices

    • +4

It already happening. People see this deal and say wow that a bargain. They see a second hand 50k km Corolla for 20 grand. Where the value in that Toyota when you can pay abit more and never put petrol again.

      • He's referring to the 2nd hand prices of MG4s already on the road.

Imagine your joy if you bought one 3 months ago for $40k. You get the immediate ~25% depreciation as you drive off the lot and this "fire sale" has dropped it another $10k.

They must have truckloads of stock in the holding yards to dump the price like that.

  • +1

In WA you get the grant on top right, $27500?

    • -1

That the dealer taken the rebate first plus add $700 paint if you want another colour not white.

    • +2

Yes, you pay $30,990 and after about 2 months processing time the state government refunds $3,500 to your bank account. Final cost you paid for the base model in white: $27,490.

The demos that sell for around $27k have the rebate already taken into account. The dealer will get the subsidy paid out to them, as the first registered owner of the vehicle. They are passing that on to you through a lower sticker price.

  • +8

If you work somewhere you can get novated lease, this is why I think deal of century. New car for $91 per week with all costs included:

Repayment: $230 per fortnight (5 Years)
Minus $3500 EV grant ($30 per fortnight)
Minus 4.2c km traveled rebate ($9 per fortnight if 20,000km travelled)
= $91 per week for brand new car fully maintenaned (rego, insurance, tyres etc)
Recharge off solar power where possibly and happy days .

Sell your old ice and park that in offset for additional interest savings.

    • interesting… so keen to buy but know ZERO about novated leases…is it a rent to own or rent and return sort of scheme?

    • +1

I don't think any NL places are doing this price yet?

    • +1

Minus $3500 EV grant ($30 per fortnight)

      Closer to $27 a fortnight.

Minus 4.2c km traveled rebate ($9 per fortnight if 20,000km travelled)

Is that 20k travelled per year?

    • +1

      That calculation looks very optimistic.

First of all: the $3500 goes to the owner of the car, which is your employer. That reduces the amount on finance. So $27500 loan. I doubt they factor in more than $10k residual value. So you'd have to pay off $17500 over 5 years, and pay interest on the full $27500 (at least initially). Add costs for rego and insurance, tyres, maintenance. By the time the NL company adds their admin cost and margin, I'd be surprised if you end up paying less than $400 a fortnight.

Since that $400 comes from pre-tax money, the actual effect will depend a lot on your tax bracket. Definitely worth it on 45% (190k+). Probably still worth it on 37% (135k to 190k). Not necessarily worth it on 30% (45k to 130k). And certainly not worth it on 16% (income below 45k).

      • +2

$400 a fortnight for 5 years seems way to much for a $27500 loan even if it is pre tax money are you sure about that?

        • -1

To pay for the loss of value of $17,500 over 5 years, that's $3,500 a year. Car loans easily run at 10% interest, that's another $2,750 in year 1 (declining over time). Add rego, insurance, tyres, service and things will quickly approach $10k a year. By the time the novated lease company adds their overhead and profit margin it should be well north of $10k a year. Just an educated guess, but looks more realistic than the calculation that started this topic.

          • @team teri: Downvote as much as you like.

If you think I got it wrong, a lot more constructive would be to quote figures from an actual novated lease offer you got for this vehicle that comes in below $400 in pre-tax fortnightly cost. I doubt you can.

            • @team teri: Let them find out for themselves. Some people want to justify that they are getting a bargain or will get one.
Even if you have disposable income for a NL or have taxable income, why would you use it on an MG?

      • +1

Sorry but your $400 is wrong, you should edit it so you don't confuse people and they miss out on a great deal. There is tax benefits on novated leases now for EVs, i.e. my $70,000 EV has a post tax repayment lower than your $400 figure and that includes tyres rego maint etc

        • +2

Nothing wrong with my calculation. If you read carefully I was only talking about pre-tax figures. Those will be the same for everyone.

If you are in the highest income bracket, post tax can be a lot more attractive, no doubt. But that is not true for everyone.

Essentially, like so many tax reduction schemes, novated leases are a way to significantly reduce tax revenue for our government, passing on a portion of the tax savings to the people that take out the leases, while making sure the biggest winners are the novated lease providers.

    • +2

The online Novated Lease calculator I used for 5 years came to $264.00 a fortnight, so you were close. Not bad at all.

      • +1

        Pre-tax or post-tax?

    • +1

Just put a deposit down on one at sticker price. After running the numbers via self managed novated lease it should come in just under $120pw over 5 years (8k balloon).
MG do services every 2 years to maintain the 10 year warranty, approx $300,$900,$300,$900 for services 1-4, so should be $2400 over 10 years before tyres and brakes.

    • Coming from a 5 year NL, this is very misleading. Teri's comment is more of an accurate representation of this. EV or ICE, NL companies are out to make money especially when there are incentives + price drop. It's like free marketing for them

      • Your 5 NL wouldn't have been with the FBT exemption on EV though. The savings on EVs can be significant - yes lease companies will make money but paying from pre tax income is a good perk, especially when paired with EV grants in WA which can be taken on a lease plus the 4.2c km FBT free rebate on each km travelled when charging at home.

    • +7

All right, to put this to a rest I've looked for a lease calculator. I used the following.
      https://www.maxxia.com.au/calculator/novated-lease/electric

      Parameters:
      * purchase price $30,990
      * 20,000 km driven per year

Result (look at the comparison table):
Annual cost of the novated lease arrangement: $10,848 +$200 fee, total $11,048

That works out to $425 per fortnight (amount divided by 26), that's the pre-tax amount. I reckon I was pretty much spot on with my back of the envelope estimate of "over $400".

      Post tax, for someone on:
$45,000 annual income: $320 per fortnight
$145,000 annual income: $239 per fortnight (which is quite exactly the value you used)

Now compare that to taking cash out from Ubank to pay for the car. With interest rates set to drop, I'll assume an average rate of 4.5% over the next 5 years.

Over 5 years: loss in value $17k, loss in interest: $7k, service $1200, car rego $5000, car insurance $4000, one set of new tyres $1000. Total: 35200. Cost per fortnight $270.

      Result:
      * someone on $45k is a lot better off paying from their savings
      * someone on $145k is a little better off with the lease

      Impact on tax revenues:
From the detailed calculation of the $145k income example: loss in tax revenue $3943 per year.

Total loss in tax revenue over 5 years: $19,715

$32 a fortnight make it back to the car buyer as their savings. Total over 5 years: $4,160

The remaining $15k end up with the finance provider for interest margins and with the novated lease company for their fees and margin. What a waste of taxpayer's funds!

      • +2

Last time I ran the numbers on NL this was basically my conclusion - I'd be diverting tax dollars in to the pockets of the lease / finance companies… crap outcome for the rest of us.

      • I think the discrepancy is because Maxxia charges around 20% effective interest rate whereas the other figures are closer to CBA's sub 9% interest rate.

  • +3

Just a heads up for those that park their MG4 outside in the sun.
The excite model has piano black bare gloss plastic on the rear tailgate which looks like it spoils pretty quickly. The higher models have a clear plastic, I am not sure if it is any more resistant though.
I saw a demonstrator today where it was no longer shiny.
This may not matter to some but for some reason put me off getting one - I am happy to be disproven though if maybe this was just a one off.

    • +1

I wonder how they will regard sun fading and damage with warranty claims?
This is the sort of debatable stuff that can be hard to argue a few years in - they may say you should have kept it garaged etc
These are the exact problems I worry about with Chinese cars new to our market - plastics and interiors and paints not surviving the hot Aussie sun

      • +3

Not only from China - I had a Renault Koleos where the black plastic on the tailgate went exactly like this.

        • +3

Yes, exactly - my dad had an Audi that the paint and interior faded dramatically on one side only - parked in the same place every day.
Hot Aussie sun sorts them out quickly

        • +2

The i30s black exterior highlights we have at work go bad too as they aren't garaged or waxed

          • @sillyhead: I wonder if I order ceramic/wax extra etc - can something like this or a paint protection film be applied to protect the bare black plastic parts from sun damage?

            • +2

@repeat: Don't order the dealer 'ceramic coat' - just a way to fleece extra $ from you.
The best you can do is use regular turtle wax etc and keep it out of the weather if possible

            • @repeat: Reckon Just buy a ceramic wax and apply it to the car every 6 months. Spray or liquid.

              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/ceramic%20wax

Don't think these will be ever be driven around on classic car rego (>30 years)

        • How did you fix it? Mine went on the koleos

          • @bex000: I was unable to repair it by polishing. It needed to be replaced but never got around to it.

    • +2

I don't think they will cover this kind of thing under warranty. Good point from your observation to take into notice before buying.

  • +4

The MG site has two contradictory end of offer dates. One says offer ends on September 30, while the ribbon says October 31.

    • +2

If you call the dealer September 30 is the correct date.

      • +1

''sold and delivered between 01 September 2024 to 30 September 2024" wish i new about this deal September 1st!

        • +1

          https://mgmotor.com.au/
Look at the MG4 advertisement at the top. October 31.

          • +1

@barryquinn: My dealer confirmed October 31, but said that he doesn’t expect there to be any remaining stock for long.

        • It wasn't available on September 1st. Not even on Friday (20th) in the morning. I checked on their website that morning, to see if they were doing anything to bring down the 51 after they already had the 64s on special.

I reckon it is sloppy editing of a copy&paste marketing text.

    • +1

They usually try to pressure people into buying quickly by giving short deadlines. Then they extend them by another month.

The 'in stock' MY24 vehicle we bought for my partner on Saturday will most likely not be delivered until late next week, which would already be October. We have no doubt the price will be honoured, the VIN is on the contract.

With this deal: they can always pull it whenever they have achieved their sales target, by telling you they have sold all currently available stock.

  • Looks like it cannot be ordered with this special price directly on the website. Why not just let people order the car directly on the special price.

    • Add on road costs?

    • Shows 7 year warranty. Maybe that dealer registered it before August 1st (when the 10 years started)? Or they were sloppy when placing the ad.

      Several cheaper options here: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/mg/mg4/?sort=~Price
I'd go for the $26990 in black or $27000 in red, if they have first been registered after August 1st (10 year warranty).

Note: the cheap ones are all in WA, and for demos the dealer gets the $3500 from the state government. So minimal savings only for buying demo.

Note 2: all the cheap demo ones seem to be 2023 build date and advertised as MY23. The new ones are built in 2024 and called MY24. I am not aware of any changes between model years. But depending on what state of charge the battery was stored in, having it sitting in a warehouse for an extra 6 months+ could have a lasting effect on battery state of health.

      • pretty sure the 23/24 model diff is the battery chemistry.

        23 models are LFP

        24 models are NMC

        • Where do you get that info from? I've never heard it before, and I have been following this vehicle.

And why would they do that? NMC is more expensive and in many ways inferior. It would be a lose (costs them more to make) lose (customer gets a worse product) situation. For that battery size they might save 20kg of weight and add 2km range…

The only reason to use NMC for the 64/77 models is to fit the extra kWh into the available space.

          • +1

@team teri: I think I got mixed up..

the 51kw model is LFP the higher capacity models are NMC

The MG4 EV comes in 3 versions (51kWh, 64kWh and 77kWh Long Range) and offers 2 different types of battery: Standard Range Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) for the 51kWh and Long Range Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) for 64kWh and 77kWh.

  • Has the EV rebate scheme in QLD finished?

    • +1

      Yes, earlier this month

      • Thanks Bauser, a google search still showed $3000 but the link took me to the electricbike/scooter rebate so wasn't sure.

        • +1

$3000 off an e-bike would be quite a deal 😀

  • +1

Long shot - but did anyone have any luck with any extra accessories? Charger, mats, shades?

    • +2

Gave a few dealers calls, all would include some variety of mats, chargers, few years of servicing, paint upgrade or alternatively knock 1-2k off the price in lieu of extras.

      • +1

        Which state?

      • +1

Wow! Yep, competition is alive in the VIC car market.

  • +1

Anyone here has experiences with EV while living in apartments? Wanted to pull the trigger but kind of hesitate. P.S. Living in Melbourne CBD.

    • +1

Even if you could charge from home, for my BYD, the granny charger charges at 1.5kw/H
So from 0 to 100%, it's take about 48 hours

Or you could just use the commercial chargers instead or the free community ones.
I know there is one in Thornbury (near the DISC).

    • +1

Should be plenty of public chargers around Melbourne CBD. Download plugshare and you can see what chargers are around you and how much they are.

  • Interested in buying one. Has anybody actually turned up to a dealer with no stock available?

    • +2

Yes, some don't have stock. However there is pooled stock available.

  • +8

Just purchased one for $29k drive away in Victoria with mats included if it helps with negotiating.

    • +1

Could you please share which dealer? thanks

    • +1

That's a great deal. If you don't mind can you share the dealer & contact person please.

    • +1

      Congrats and happy electric motoring.
