Good price on this Mini PC if you're after something small and low powered. The Intel N100 packs a fair bit of punch and is a good option if you're wanting to use it as a media player. While the RAM at 12GB is a bit of a downside compared to others with 16GB RAM it's DDR5 instead of DDR4 found in a lot of similar mini PCs.

Featuring Windows 11 Pro, Intel N100 CPU with 4 cores & 4 threads (up to 3.4GHz), 12GB DDR5 4800MHz RAM, 512GB M.2 2242 SATA/PCIe SSD (upgradeable), 2x HDMI 2.0 (4K@60Hz), 1x DP (4K@60Hz), USB-C with Power Delivery, x3 USB 3.0, dual Gigabit LAN, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 3.5mm audio jack, VESA mounting and customisable lighting on the bottom of the case.

As with all Mini PCs I recommend doing a fresh install of Windows with a USB.

  • These N100's are so great for media servers! Has quicksync and an ethernet port, can't wait for the successor to these using the new lunar lake e cores that are like 65% faster

  • How does this stack up against the similarly priced and ubiquitous Dell USFF PCs we regularly see on eBay special?

    • +1

These are a lot more power effecient and are pretty similar single core, but a bit slower multi core since the ones on ebay special are 6 cores, in the long term this will save you a lot of money just from power bills if you're planning on running them 24/7

I’ve got an i7 surface pro 3 running as a server (screen disconnected and broken) around 9w on idle. The raspberry pi 4 I had was around 4 watts on idle.

        Over a year, that’s about 80kwh vs 35kwh.

        Assuming 30c/kwh, that’s about $24 vs $10 per year.

I gave up on the Pi as general performance was mostly as a server but a bit laggy if I used it like a desktop.

The $14 more per year (more like $8 with solar) was worth it for me. The math changes if you use the CPU more, but even with running a VM it was very low power 24/7.

I'd say the N100 is way better. newer codec, good quad core speed with much lower power consumption. The power bill savings is actually quite singificant over the longer term.

      • If power usage was not a factor, and use case was for a 10y/o to browse/play web games and use Google office suite, would there be any reason to go for the Dell USFF over one of these for day-to-day usage?

        • Better performance for sure.

I’ve just replaced my dad’s PC (cpu was worse than an i3 but can’t remember which), about 4 years old and laggy but useable. My mom’s 6-7 year old i3 still performs great.

      • The power bill savings is actually quite singificant over the longer term.

That depends on use case, under load N100 is efficient but for idling it's relatively the same as most of those refurbished USFFs.

    • Lower power than the typical Dell USFF and in a lot of cases faster too. Those USFFs are typically 4th - 6th gen CPUs, 4gb-8gb RAM and usually still have HDDs for the drive. I'd take one of these in a heartbeat over the Dell.

    • If minimizing power consumption is your priority, then a Raspberry Pi 5 is an excellent option. It has an impressively low idle power consumption of just 2.7 W. However, its drawbacks include limited CPU power and its ARM architecture, which can be a hassle if the services you need aren’t compatible.

On the other hand, the Intel N100 is more powerful and uses a standard x86 architecture, making it more versatile. Its limitation, however, is the maximum of 16 GB of memory, which can be restrictive for running multiple virtual machines (VMs). For example, if you need to run HAOS, Ubuntu, and a Windows 11 VM simultaneously, 16 GB may not be enough.

If you can invest in a Dell Mini PC with more processing power, it can host a greater number of services. However, its GPU performance may still fall short for tasks like multiple 4K video transcoding or game streaming. At that point, you might want to consider building an ITX PC to meet those needs.

Ultimately, it all comes down to your use cases. If you're unsure whether you need a more powerful machine, you probably don't. This computer may suit your needs just fine.

I had 6 Raspberry pi and a Dell 7070 Micro i5-9500T running at the same time before. Yes, I needed 7 servers back then.

  • What's the go with these laptops from the same seller? https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005007650058080.html

I know they're old N3700s, but surely they can't be doing a whole laptop with 16gb+1tb and a 1080p screen delivered for under $36 AUD?

    • +1

It's not the same seller (AliExpress is a marketplace) and it does say "Size: Original keyboard". You're probably going to get a crappy keyboard delivered.

      • Whilst it could absolutely be a scam, it lists the contents as being:
        Laptop*1
        User's Manual *1
        Power Adapter *1

        • +1

          Good luck with that.

          • @Clear: Cheap enough that I almost want to roll the dice 🤣

    • Different seller, the seller for those are "Shop1104091300 Store"

      • Sorry, thought I'd clicked a link within the same sellers store, but it was to another seller.

  • Anyone have this specific one and can comment on the fan noise? Considering replacing a raspberry pi but like silence.

    • Honestly if you don't like the fan just disable it and see how the temps are, the n100 has a tdp of 6w, lower than the peak of some smartphones

  • What are some of the use cases for these? Can they transcode Plex?

    • yes it has a quicksync module, pretty good for plex

  • This may be a bit of a specific and unique use for this computer, but how would Clone Hero run on it?

I'm looking for a cheap system to plug into a monitor and have it set up to purely play Clone Hero on.

  • is there any significant difference between Beelink and GMKtec? 12GB and 16GB RAM isn't that much of difference right ?

The Beelink has the advantage of upgradeable RAM as it's soldered on this one. Plus you can fit full sized M.2 SSDs and a 2.5" SSD.

      • it seems though this would be better value generally though right?

      • im using it as a firewall. Should be ok.
