Sunday's are always quiet so here's some sitewide AliExpress coupons that seem to work on everything and aren't meant to be public (they might get pulled). The best value coupon is the US$4 off US$25 code, as the others are just offsetting the GST.

If you want to be notified of future AliExpress coupon deals you can subscribe to the "AliExpress Sale" tag here.

Coupons are 1 per account, do not stack with the new user 'Welcome Offer", "Daily Deals (Super Deals)" and minimum spend excludes GST and shipping.

If a code doesn't work please say which one. Saying "it doesn't work" or similar is useless when there's over a dozen codes.

How to get the correct AU$ price with PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

bro linked a bing search results page 😭

      • +2
        • bing's got best video search also removes youtube ads
        • bing pays me for using it
        • google has gone downhill year on year my bing experience is probably on par or slightly better than google now
        • +7

Bing is dangerous for the average user who isn't too savvy and it's how they end up with a lot of desktop notification ads and other crap.

I.e. if you wanted to download Adobe Reader you'll get 4 results of crapware before the actual link to Adobe Reader. Meanwhile Google is smart enough to know and will have the download as the first result.

Bing Maps satellite being more up to date and detailed is certainly a plus.

          • @Clear: dam that sucks, my filters like instinct so missed that, feels like i find things quicker but still have to append reddit to most things

lol, might avoid google out of spite now, replacing more of my browsers with presearch or DuckDuckGo which apparently aggregates from Google, Bing and smaller niche engines

          • @Clear: Weird, usually Google will stick a bunch of ads at the top of search results.

            • @smartazz104: Can't say I've ever had that issue with a clean browser. Bing 100%.

        • +1

I personally use duckduckgo, which I believe uses bing on the backend.

Google has gone mad with sponsored links and tracking. If you search for something where the top result also has a paid link available, they will only show the sponsored link, not the normal result. I've set my partner's devices set to bypass in Pi-hole because of it 😞

          • @Chandler: Any chance to show how to bypass sponsored google search results in pihole?
My partner complains when all their links get “blocked” by pihole.

Turns out pihole can help reduce online shopping.

            • +1

              @sigh:

Turns out pihole can help reduce online shopping.

              🤣

Any chance to show how to bypass sponsored google search results in pihole?

Not bypassing the sponsored search results, but bypassing Pi-hole itself: my partner's DNS requests managed but not filtered by Pi-hole.

Can't remember exact wording, but I believe on a "Client settings" page you can add settings for specific clients (by MAC address). I'll have to have a look at home - haven't finished setting up my remote access.

Although bypassing sponsored google search results has got me thinking now… I wonder if the true URL is embedded in the Google URL and if Pi-hole can read that and redirect to the true URL rather than just block the Google URL…

Anyone else getting more frequent order cancellations recently, or is it just me?

    • Only if I happen to order from a really low feedback store by mistake.

    • Yeah I've been getting a few in the last couple weeks actually. Never got them before that!

    • Yeah, of my last order of 10 items on the 1st Aug, 5 (4 Choice) have been cancelled/expired before even shipping and the 6th (also Choice) was recently 'returned to warehouse". I've only received one item so far, and it wasn't a Choice seller.

Had a good run this year until this last order.

    • I had a bunch of smaller items last week and one warehouse was ok, but everything that came from another city/warehouse got expired or sent back to the sender.

    • I've had 3 unsuccessful attempts now at buying paint markers from different sellers that weren't cancelled but ran a month's course before 'returning to warehouse'

  • Seems like I can't use these coupons in conjunction with 'Coins' - it says:

      • +2

hope the big plan is to get the GST charge right lol

        • Yep

        • +6

Nope. The best minds have tried but they just can't crack the code. Whichever genius cryptographer came up with the GST cipher did their job too well. Maybe one day our government will cave and switch to a simple percentage calculation instead.

          • @schquid: Sometimes hard to get AU plugs, very common for US, UK and EU, AU can be harder to find.

Not a problem for figure 8 (IEC C7) cables or USB-C charging but some stuff comes with plug packs making it a pain.

UGreen is competitive with Amazon but no AU plugs on any of their direct plug in items.

Sometimes you find Amazon selling items from Aliexpress under different brand name for more expensive. But Australia Post have been replacing the address labels on my recent imports but some stores really don’t care about good packing and boxes come squashed as they have just the grey plastic as shipping bags.

Choice multiple ships also seem to arrive in better condition.

Depending on what store you buy from, box can end up squashed as no protection except grey plastic, but some use padded bags inside the grey plastic bag.

Found it interesting Australia post are putting their own labels over the top of the Chinese address labels, probably makes easier for their huge sub-contractor package delivery staff they have now.

They really push the Pay After Delivery as an incentive for the stores to get the items to you fast and in one piece, they don’t get paid until confirmed delivery.

Most have refund guarantees so if the box s massively crushed like it’s been squished during INTL transport, sometimes the light cardboard boxes aren’t enough protection. That said, I haven’t had any orders cancelled recently, but I regularly miss out during sales on my preferred colour or AU plug option if they have it.

I’m done with crappy EU and US adapters. Found one place that sold some better quality and you can even get stuff with earth pins if required.

Just watch out with Credit Card Hacks, I’ve had someone trying to buy BTC on a card that was only used with Splitit, their PAD service which appears to be a different company and Australia Post delivery confirmation has been getting back to Aliexpress without me having to click on anything but I had one parcel confirmed delivered, but never showed. Was refunded as all the stores had a refund guarantee. Sick of AusPost contract drivers leaving stuff in plain view on my door step.

            • +1

@dman1: "I’m done with crappy EU and US adapters. Found one place that sold some better quality and you can even get stuff with earth pins if required."

              Ah Where ?

      • They will have to with Temu taking a lot of businesses. Meanwhile Aliexpress been around for over a decade…

Not sure why Temu all over news headline while I hear nothing on Aliexpress.

Maybe shipping is faster, with the spinning wheel of fortune is disillusion

        • +1

AliExpress still have the advantage of having brands. While Temu shipping is 2-4 weeks and AliExpress is <7 business days.

Temu are winning by having no questions asked refunds for lost packages and price adjustments, however they punish the stores very hard. If I ordered a $10 product and it arrived broken, Temu will refund me the $10. They'll then fine the store anywhere between $20 and $50 for it.

That explains why they have a fraction of selection they did when they first launched.

  • +2

Thanks just bought another 3 retro handhelds

    • Which ones

      • +1

Powkiddy V10, Kinhank K36 and the Miyoo A30. I pretty much have everything else at this point.

        • Why Kinhank and not R36S?

          • +2

@RocketSwitch: If you have seen my previous comments on other posts you will see I have like 20 something handhelds at this point. I have three different coloured R36s actually. I also have the following Rg35xx, Rg351v, M17, R35s, RGB30, Retroid Pocket 3+, Sf2000, Smartpro Trimui, X55 and a couple of hacked Psps and 3DS just to name a few.

            • @habib23q: Haha, nice. I see you're a collector. Well done. I'm picking up the Orange R36S for $29 USD, just came as a Super Deal.

              • @RocketSwitch: Yes I am. Thanks. That's not bad but earlier on tonight it was on sale for $39 AUD with a 64gb card which is cheaper.

                • @habib23q: Ah, I couldn't find it cheaper than that. I searched for it, only saw that as a Super Deal. It was $26 USD, but + tax.

                  • +1

@RocketSwitch: The key is to add tons of items to your watch list and keep an eye on them. That's how i see alot of specials.

            • @habib23q: what do you do with them all?

              What's your pick of A30 vs RG28XX?

              I haven't kept up since RG35XX days

              • +1

@impoze: Set them up. Play with some of them. The rest are played by my kids and relatives. They all get used.

              • @impoze:

                What's your pick of A30 vs RG28XX?

Personally I prefer the Miyoo A30 (especially with SpruceOS).

Anbernic RG28XX is a more powerful device, but I find the buttons too small for my fingers (and also the lack of a Joystick).

                • @RichardL: I second this. Plus the A30 just seems to look better for me. I ended up getting the famicom coloured version. Also added spruce to it.

            • @habib23q: More Anbernic Devices on the horizon - RG40XXV, CUBE XX

              • @RichardL: I know. But at this point, I'm thinking to start culling some devices first. In the end alot of them overlap with each other. Basically you have your horizontal and vertical devices and most of them are very similar. Also, it's mainly the build quality that matters too.

                • @habib23q: Habibi, what's your recommendations for best vertical/horizontal available right now? And also, budget vertical/horizontal for their first retro? 😅 I'm only asking because AFAIK, these units don't get too expensive anyway? 😅 Thanks mate!

                  • +3

@WasBargain: For budget horizontal options, as has been mentioned countless times before its either the Miyoo Mini Plus with GarlicOS or the R36s and the Rg353v which is older at this point but always been super reliable or the Rg405v for the more expensive and powerful ones which does do more.

For verticals there's alot that have come out lately but you can't go wrong with either the Powkiddy RGB30 with either ROCKNIX or ArkOS and or the Smartpro Trimui with either Knulli or CrossMix installed. Other budget option's are the Rg35xx-h or Rg40xx and more expensive and powerful options are the Rgcube, the Retroid Pocket 4 or 4+ and the Rg556.

Note that this is all simplified. Theres quite literally a ton of devices out atm that all seem to he good at what they do.

Lastly, if your after a great all around device thats super nostalgic and you don't mind louder clicky controls its the Rg35xx-sp which is very similar to an old Gameboy SP. I had a silver one back in the day.

If you dont care about portability or price and want a great all in one unit but that frankly does everything get either the Steamdeck or Ayin Odin.

Phew, hope this helps out alot of people wondering what they can get into at this point.

                    • @habib23q: ^Tips hat^

That's a wildly impressive response within 30 minutes of me posting!

Thank you kindly my dude. <3

I'll have to watch a few quick reviews of each unit you've listed just to see what my preference is but this is an amazing start!

I was thinking more of just like those all-rounder retro gameboy sort of devices that has all the games in it preloaded from the different platforms from like nintendo to sega and stuff.

I have never heard of the Ayn Odin! Interesting unit though, when I read android-based, I was thinking this'd be great for those intense subway surfer sessions.. 🤣 Is this only for like, PlayStore games? I don't find many of those games enjoyable.. 😅

I read your previous post about having way too many devices now.. 😅 Thinking back on it, would you say to start out, just get 1 retro (or even 2 for the one-of-each-orientation) and then if you find it enjoyable to get a more pricier unit for more intensive games like the Steamdeck after? NGL, my steam account is over 20 years old now but I really like the look of the Z1.. 😅 I just never really considered getting one of these devices until recently..

                      • +3

@WasBargain: Thanks. Most of these devices can be bought preloaded or without the sd card. Either way the bundled sd card is almost always some rubbish branded or no name card that will usually not last long and corrupt itself. So as always if you do get a preloaded one make sure you make a fresh card using a good branded one such as SanDisk, Samsung or for more budget friendly cards i find the Patriot cards on Amazon are well worth using. Yes they aren't as fast in transfers etc but I've used about 30 so far and not one has been faulty.

Also as most people find having thousands of non curated games on there with duplicates or different regions isnt very useful. There are places to find good sets if you just google.

As for starting off gameboy style devices the Miyoo Mini Plus or even Rg35xx is the best bet unless you wanna use analog sticks and then just stick with the R36s.

I've managed to get a few R36s all for under 40 bucks delivered usually with a 64 or 128gb card. As always make a fresh card using the Retro Game Corps videos or written guides online. Russ certainly knows his stuff. For an alternative use Joeys Retro handhelds guides too. Another great source of info. Other great yt channels for reviews are Techdweeb, Taki, ETAPrime, Madlittlepixel, VladNerd and MVG.

Also lookup the thousands of yt reviews online for any of the consoles that your interested in. Alot of them also have their suggested devices for different price ranges or uses as well. I tend to find just adding them to an Aliexpress watch list and checking daily is the easiest way to find bargains. Especially when combined with their sales coupons which are regularly posted up here as well.

As for the Ayin Odin and like minded devices I was talking just generally being used as an all in one powerful emulation device. I too have a very old steam account at this point which is overwhelming to try to go through. But yes your right I wouldn't just buy a steamdeck or odin or whatever just off the bat just for emulation as such. Besides everyone else on here even seems to have one but tends to prefer the smaller cheapo handhelds as a second or third device but owing to their portability they tend to use them more often then the bigger devices for this reason alone.

Also you could just get a gamesir or similar type of controller add on for your Android or ios device but unless you have a spare or older decent phone this isn't very useful imho as you are still getting notifications and or draining your phone battery for no real benefit. However yes they are generally alot more powerful devices in most cases so this another option to consider for some.

Maybe I should start my own channel at this point lol. I've been involved with emulation since the early 486 days back in 94 ish…

        • Miyoo A30

I got one last AliExpress sale and with the recent Spruce 2.0, it's finally decent.

    • I remember a lot of fun was had playing 2 player games, can any of these handhelds do this? Cheers.

  • Time to buy SSP burrs

    • If you havent bought them yet i highly suspected these are replicas and not original SSPs. Despite them saying they're an authorised SSP reseller

      • Interesting, I have installed DLC burrs by default in my DF83. Initially I don't really need to make a big investment. I'll try to buy from a well known place like AB, Mi, or Df64coffee. It's too damn expensive, I don't know why. 600$ for a pair of burrs. 83mm is way more expensive than 64mm

        • Yeah its super expensive. I tell myself they'll last a long long time and transferrable to a future grinder.. will pull the trigger from Mi. Was super tempted when i saw them on ali express but all the reviews say to stay away. If they have the exact same dimensions and geometry they should perform the same. But at 70% of a real one, just go all the way i reckon!

        Seems they're replenished now.

  • I'm assuming this also doesn't work with Big Save items? I tried it and doesn't stack.

    • Yeah seems as though they've marked everything that's normal price 'Big Save' so you can't use discount codes…great.

  • -1

As usual none of these work for me.

    • Still working here. What message do you get? I bet it's going to be a case of trying to stack it on a Super Deals/Limited/Big Save product or there's a welcome deal

  • Thanks mate. Saved me $4usd!

I get this error when I try to apply coupon code: For security reasons your request can't currently be processed

    What does it mean?

    • Have you ordered from Ali before?

      • I have. Does it have something to do with that? Should I make a new account?

        • I tried with a new account without orders and one that hadn't ordered in a year and it didn't work. My normal account with recent orders worked fine.

    • +2

      I have the same issue

    • Same for me.

  • +2

lol, now it says when I put a promo code in: "For security reasons your request can't currently be processed"

But I can pay full price! It's only a security concern IF you're getting a discount lol, love humanity!!

    • A polite way of saying it's expired. XD

  • None of the $25 coupon is working for me. I'm buying choice item for $41.62 and also have deselected the coins discount which is $0.80 but still can't use any of the codes as its saying " can't be used in conjunction to other discounts" but there are no other discounts attached. Am I missing something?

    • Are you a new AliExpress user? Is it from Super Deals or Big Save?

      • I'm not a new user and its from Choice deal.

        • Do you happen to be on desktop? If you take what's after the .html in the URL does the price change?

Special prices from Super Deals, Big Save etc can still apply on Choice items

          • @Clear: I was trying it on the app but wil try it on desktop. Will see how it goes.
            Thanks

    • are you using the app? I changed to web from PC after encountering that on my phone.

      • Yeah. I was using the app. Wil try on desktop. Thanks

    • Any luck? I'm having the same issue with the US$10 off code. Deselected coins + Choice item, but get the "can't be used in conjunction to other discounts".

  • +2

If it helps someone, I made a purchase using the $25 code, about 15 mins ago. Thanks @clear for this deal.

  • +3

Getting the following when trying to use any of the codes: "For security reasons your request can't currently be processed"

    • Desktop, mobile or app? New or existing account? Have you made previous orders or not?

I'm still trying to work out what triggers it. My existing account with previous orders works, my new account with no orders gets that message and my other account with a single order (not yet delivered) gets that too.

      • Getting the same as above using code IFPSFPU. On both mobile (android) and desktop (chrome on Windows 10). I have ordered several times in the past on aliexpress.

        • +1

Given these aren't meant to be public codes there's probably some condition that accounts aren't meeting. Hard to say. I'll see if it can be made a targeted deal.
