I was after a EQ13 as I wanted a N100/N200 that ran quietly. Reviews indicate these are one of the quietest active cooled such mini-PCs. Mine arrives in a couple of days, so I'll find out exactly how quiet very soon.

Amazon currently has a coupon checkbox on this listing with a hefty discount. I cannot see when the coupon expires, though.

Make sure to tick the Apply $130 coupon or Apply $150 coupon checkbox to get this price.

EDIT:

  • EQ12 is back to full price
  • EQ13 (N100) is still on sale
  • EQ13 (N200) is out of stock

These N100 actually pack quite a punch.. I use one for Frigate and the integrated GPU is no slouch.
I think power wise it would give a raspberry pi a run for its money too.

    • +1

Exactly. I have one running proxmox with a few things running including Frigate.
Don't even need the Coral accelerator, the N100 does just fine on it's own.
      Love the N100's !

I have a Mele N95 version (Overclock4C with 32GB RAM), and it's crazy how well it holds up.

It's presently running a Proxmox node with a Windows RDP desktop, a Linux remote desktop, Unifi management server, Plex, PiHole and Home Assistant… and there's plenty of room for more. All-up averaging about 10W and dead-silent.

I shifted three old PCs into one box, taking up around 5% of the space, and with less than one tenth of the power consumption.

      • +3

When you also consider the price, that’s quite incredible

    • I have a N5095 and its pretty quick, this is quite a bit faster

Copied from youtube "In some respects, the EQ13 is both an upgrade and a downgrade from its predecessor, the EQ12. The EQ12 is mostly available as the N100, but it also sports 2 Intel 2.5G network ports, DDR5. The EQ13 downgrades the ram and network ports, and adds in the integrated power supply, better cooling, and dual NVME slots, although the drive shipped is indeed SATA which is limited to about 500 MBps. If you want a firewall appliance, the EQ12 is a better alternative, IMHO due to the Intel Network ports. I do believe that the 1st NVME slot is 3 lane, and the second is 1 lane; top speed I saw was about 3500 MBps with a NVME drive installed instead of the factory provided SATA drive. The second port topped out at about 900 MBps with the same NVME drive. The provided SATA drive does not work in the second NVME slot. On the EQ12, the second drive slot is SATA, allowing one to use a 2.5 inch SATA drive.
The EQ13 does have a larger cooling area for the heatsink exhaust; the port on the EQ12 is a bit smaller. Overall, you get a bit more CPU headroom with the EQ13 N200 over the EQ12 N100; something you'll appreciate when it comes to Windows updates. The DDR4 of the EQ13 vs the DDR5 of the EQ12 is not that noticeable in real life; just cheaper if jumping up to 32G.

The single slot nature of the RAM slot is an Intel design limitation, as is the number of lanes for the NVME slots; I do think many of the changes were made to make the device more competitive against other brands, like going to Realtek network ports, and going with DDR4 instead of 5. Overall, either system makes a nice low powered server, or cheap workstation for general use."

    Beelink N100 Mini S12, 16/500GB $259

Limited-time deal: Beelink Alder Lake-N100 Processor (Up to 3.40GHz) Mini Computer, MINI-S12 Pro Mini PC, 16GB RAM 500GB SSD Business Mini Desktop PC, Dual HDMI/WiFi 6/BT 5 .2/RJ45/WOL/Auto Power On https://amzn.asia/d/7O00vwm

    • What's the diff between s12 and eq12 other than the s12 have one less network port and usb a instead of c on one port?

      • +2

The S12 pro has DDR4 versus the EQ12 with DDR5. I say pro as there are two versions of the S12; one with the N95 processor (non-pro version) and one with the N100 processor, like the EQ12. The EQ12 is also said to run hotter and louder than the 'non-pro' S12, if that's the case with the S12 Pro version, I'm not sure, but considering the N100 is so power efficient compared to the N95 I'd say it is.

    • Ordered one of these for media PC on the TV and it is great for the price.

Fast little PC and plays 4K nice and clear.

  • +1

Surprised that the N200 is benchmarked as slower than the N100 (5,499 vs 5126 on the N200)

    • +5

Yeah Intel naming scheme for these low power chips makes no sense to me

      • +1

n200 is definitely faster, same chip with higher clock speed

    • the benchmark score is an average of the last 5 runs and invariably a person runs a benchmark while having windows update running in the background, since it's an average of only 5 scores a low benchmark can completely derail the result

if you scroll down you'll eventually see the 5 last results the score is based on, look at the highest out of those for absolute raw performance - if it's a chip that can be overclocked then you can drill down to the individual result and check the frequency, but these days the higher results at a glace is what you want

      n100
      6150

      n200
      6670

inline with the high clock speeds of the n200

why 16gb when apple makes do with 8gb?

    • +1

It's the ghost of Steve Jobs' reality distortion field, or perhaps "you're just holding it wrong" ;-)

    • Imagine how much better apple would be if it had 16GB RAM but they got you thinking you need give up your first born or take a second mortgage to afford 8GB more RAM.

  • +2

I've got the EQ12, and it's a great little powerhouse for a headless server

My only complaint is the fan is quite noisy, even at idle.

I wouldn't use one as a desktop (although it's ok in a pinch).

    • I have an S12 Pro, and the fan noise can be quite loud with that too. This is why I looked at the EQ13.

  • +1

16GB RAM is more than Apple gives you for 10x price (You can run AI on this ;)

    • ;) , but the way the ram and bandwidth works on this vs the mac makes for a very different experience. It's almost by luck that the Mac series works very well for AI work due to the shared memory between everything.

What’s the cheapest HDMI 2.1 equipped mini PC?

Would like one for a Moonlight client with 4K120hz HDR.

  • This or the Gmktek n97. I am interested in using for light work, coding and retro game

  • How does this compare to the MKtec Nucbox G2?. Will be using it primarily to run an Ubuntu Server hosting my Plex Server.

It's currently $260 but has 4GB less RAM then the EQ12. Does the $70 price difference justify the RAM increase? The Nucbox does come with a 'Energy Efficient Red cover' so it's hard to choose… :P

    • +1

EQ12 has dual 2.5g Lan port, if you can utilize that speed. Useful if you are running server on it like proxmox to get higher bandwidth even for local playback.

    • Specs wise, Beelink seems better. However, @clear has posted the following deal:
GMKtec G2 Mini PC (Intel N100, 12GB DDR5 RAM, 512GB SSD, Win11 Pro) US$120.49 (~A$181.49) Shipped @ GMKtec Office AliExpress and price is a key factor for these N100 Mini PCs.

      • GMKtec provides an actual DisplayPort for the 3rd display output vs Beelink EQ12 (which uses USB-C/DP alt-mode).
      • Beelink EQ12's USB-C port might be 10Gbps (due to the way Intel does N100), but I am cynical about the USB-A ports actually being gen 2, I reckon it is best to assume the USB-A ports are gen 1 (5Gbps). However, if you use the USB-C for alt-mode either by connecting to a PC USB-C monitor or a hub, when display is being used, the data transfer speed drops to 5Gbps.
      • GMKtec's ports, I would assume they are all USB 3.2 gen 1 ports (5Gbps).
      • Beelink EQ12 has more RAM.
      • Beelink EQ12's dual 2.5Gbps LANs can be handy.
      • WiFi 6 on either of them can vary (luck of the draw), you could end up with 1T1R cheap WiFi 6.
      • Beelink provides drivers and BIOS updates. As it is a good idea to do a fresh install of the OS (if you are worried about malware), the driver package is handy.
      • GMKtec does not provide drivers?

  • Can I run proxmox on this? Any good mini pc for proxmox ? Thanks

    • Yes you can run proxmox, but the bigger question is can it accommodate the workload you plan on throwing at it?

    • +1

      I do.
Running proxmox, frigate, home assistant, syncthing just fine

      • What do you have running in proxmox? Is it just the things you listed, or have you got other things? I'm thinking about getting into the self-hosted game, and would love one of these mini PCs for the small footprint and energy efficiency, but just unsure if an N100 will do what I need. I suspect it will, because I'm not planning on heaps, just Plex, syncthing, couple of others possibly like Immich.

        • +3

This is what I have running on it currently. I am pretty sure I can put few more services on it. That ram usage is not actual, it's the allocated kind of. So I think it is only using around 20% of the capacity overall.

  • +1

I'm currently typing this off an N100. I have a miniboox x1, the good old Chuwi.

Decent performer for what it is and the absurdly low amount I paid for it, but it is just my travel / just in case / sits in the back of the car at all times laptop (I run a small IT business, just easier to have something on hand incase).

I'm only using it right now because I'm testing out a new home made desk / monitor setup I crammed into a small space for the partner to WFH occasionally.

Some things are painfully slow, even just having too many tabs open. I actually never noticed it really being "too" bad when using it off the laptop screen, but for some reason throwing a 2560x1080 display at it seems to make it all the more noticeable.

TLDR: Good for a second computer / quick get a few things done workstation but they're nothing amazing and I wouldn't want one as my primary computer unless my usage was just doing my taxes once a year / minimal things.

Decent option for a hypervisor, plex / sonarr / radarr / homeassistant box and the like etc

  • Im looking to replace my extremely slow 2014 Imac. Eyeing a mid range pc with an aesthetic monitor under $1500 total. Would you suggest buying a mini PC and a nice monitor or go with an all in one PC? Suggestions would be very appreciated.

    • +1

I personally would look at one of the techfast/budget pc/nebula deals and add a monitor if you have $1500 to spend. Easier to add / change components. Mini PC is good for browsing / word / excel and AIOs are effectively laptops.

  • does it do usb c display?

  • N100 is equivalent to what, an 8th gen i5?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/865901

Surely the AMD SER5 offers better performance (6C/12T much better iGPU) for under $300? Yes, has less RAM, but easily and cheaply upgraded.

If this had 2.5Gb ethernet, or Thunderbolt, I might get it, otherwise what's the killer feature I'm missing, Quicksync for Plex?

    • +1

      I think more of 8th gen i3.

Yes igpu for plex & intel lan if running hypervisor as some linux don't like realtek.

  • Do any of these do HDMI 2.1 with VRR and the like?

  • +1

Why this over a refurbished mini/sff workstation with a 8500T/9500T?

    • +1

This gets asked on many of the threads about these mini PCs, so here's a summary, but have a look at some of those other threads for more answers.

Basically it's power consumption under load (they will be similar when idle). These Intel N100 chips have a very low power draw for similar performance to the 8500T/9500T processors.

They also support some newer video codecs which can be important for people doing Plex transcoding for example.

The downsides of them are that they have a maximum memory capacity of 32GB (but are usually only shipped with 16GB, and the official Intel spec sheet says 16GB), and do have lower multi core performance.

So TL;DR: depends on your use case. Do you value power savings or additional multi core performance+ RAM more?

    • +1

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PisIPpbMkTc&t=849s

A good comparison inc pricing in the relative power draw, and an attempt to factor in the Reduce / Reuse / Recycle vs buy new aspect.

  • Does this one come with Windows? There's no mention of it at all on the listing.

Has anyone used this as a portable computer? Thinking of bringing this for work as it seems it's good for commuting on the bike.

    • +1

It comes with Windows but others feel more comfortable installing the OS from scratch.

It's transportable, but not a laptop replacement as obviously you need a monitor, keyboard, mouse and a power source.

      • Instructions unclear. Plugs this to a portable screen and powered it using a portable generator.

      • Thank you for the response. It's odd that it was not mentioned in the listing.

Ah yes, I should've made it clearer that work has the monitor, keyboard and mouse already.

I have heard that mini pcs might not handle movement well during transport. Interested in hearing from people in that use case I suppose.

        • +1

With the exception of a fan on the cpu. There is no moving parts in this. So not really a problem moving them around.

  • With media servers in these mini PC's. How do you guys handle external storage? esp with TB of shows/movies ?
External HDD connected via USB 3 ?

    • An N100 mITX motherboard for around $200 would be a more likely starting point for this sort of end use.

    • That's one way. If you have tons of media, a separate NAS is better.

  • Ended up purchasing this Beelink SER5 MAX 32Gb / 500Gb? https://www.amazon.com.au/Beelink-Ryzen7-4-4GHz-Bluetooth-US…

    It comes down to $476.57 for me $749 - $220 (promo) - $52.43 (7% off)

Not sure if the 7% off is available for everyone, this is the only Beelink pc that I've found has it.

    • Why did you end up with this conclusion?

      • I needed the 32gb ram and processor seems faster. They weigh the same too.

Heigher power requirement and potentially not as quiet but I'm not using it for a media centre so I can live with that.

  • +1

how is this deal getting more interest than the ryzen 5560u mini pc for under $300
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/865901

    someone make it make sense

performance is significantly lower, performance per watt is lower

the only benefit the n200/n100 chips have is av1 hardware acceleration everything else is in favour of the ryzen

    • I wanna know too…

    • Depends what people are using it for. I bought one as a router and need 2x Ethernet ports.

      • good answer

im using a ethernet/usb dongle for my second nic and have opensense running as a router too, but it sits on promox with 4 other servers which is why i lean towards power being far more important than the 2nd nic

that and linux drivers from promox are probably saving me as i suspect the 2nd usb/ethernet nic would be less than flawless on freeBSD

all that being said I can't imagine the popularity of this device is down to such a edge case, n1/200 hype is conning people into a poorer deal imho

  • Kind of an expensive price, the EQ12 was $40 cheaper a year ago:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/795408

  • My friend is after a pc that can handle CorelDraw, can this pc run the software?

  • EQ13 n200 is gone, now it's EQ13 n100 same price.

    • Thanks. I have added a comment in the description.
