  • damn signing up asap

  • Crazy good deal.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm if it stacks

    • +2

Yes it stacks, in my welcome email they say I get it and I got the sign up deal. I just churned from Qantas after collecting the 60,000 points.

      • i have AHM one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/853764
which i purchased on 30th of june, and i am waiting for $100 refund.
Just want to know, what is the different between these 2 policies, Can i keep these 2 together and what should i do ?? someone care to explain please. don't know much about these health covers and how thay work.

      • I’m currently on the Qantas deal atm. If I sign up to this would I still be able to get my Qantas points.

        • Only if you're with them for 60 days (depending on the offer you signed up for). Their latest offer is a bit different as it has longer waiting periods on some points. They do give you the Qantas points super promptly though. If you won't get the points before September 25th you'd have to weigh up whether you want the points or the 13 weeks.

          • @machej: Dam hard to forfeit 120k Qantas points as it also earns me Qantas Club Plus.

            • @nightelves: Agree, if each point is worth 2 cents then it's $2400 of value + whatever you value PC.

        • Just sign up to both

      • It's funny because I posted the previous deal but I haven't received any info on the 7 weeks free yet XD

      • Didn’t receive this in the welcome email

      • When did you get your welcome email?

    • May I know which stacking you are referring here? TIA

  • Godammit thats good
Just churning ahm at the moment.

  • Question: Lots of health funds provides XXX weeks free offer every a few months, can I keeps transfer between different health funds?

    • Yes, just collect all the clearance certificates, make sure you have continuous coverage at a base level of coverage you want and send the certificates to your latest health insurer. I wouldn't suggest churning often if you have health issues or are expecting a baby as it could create unnecessary annoyance.

      • I reckon I disagree with that. In Australia, policy covers are standardized by law, so if you switch to an equivalent cover, you'll get exactly the same benefits. We've got bronze, silver, and gold levels, and that's pretty much it. Health funds might try to keep you by offering a ‘plus’ option with a few extra perks, but don’t be fooled—the basic cover is the same across all funds. So, if you’re on a gold cover that includes pregnancy, you can swap to any other fund and still get 100% coverage.

Let’s get the word out and make switching health funds the norm!

        • I don't think we're disagreeing with each other. I'm not saying you'll lose your cover, I'm saying without all your clearance certificates if you've moved within the same year the next health fund won't know you don't need to reserve waiting periods. Generally only your previous health fund will generate a clearance certificate and send it automatically to your next fund.

          • @machej: Sending your own CC to new fund saves headache. It means they know about pre existing conditions waiting periods already served etc

            • @leeroys_dad: Correct, that's exactly what I'm saying. I will send 4 CCs to GMHBA after receiving my previous one.

              • @machej: I have been churning consistenly, and usually I just let the new fund chace the previous one for the CC. But now you are making me think this twice. Any reason you do it yourself? It's so easy to just give your policy and they follow it up everytime

                • @nomekop: You just want to ensure you have 12 months of CCs to provide the latest fund so you're always covered. There's no issue with churning but I wouldn't suggest people constantly do it if they have chronic health issues, could cause unwarranted stress.

                  • -1

                    @machej: Thanks for replying.
I think someone that has a chronic condition should churn even more as, assuming they will have a expensive policy, the savings are really substantial. I want to emphasise there is nothing to stress about, as the clearance certificates are generated quickly and apply reatroactively. They will be covered at all times.
Furthemore, churning helps to reset extras maximum benefits. Some health companies reset in july, some in january, so churning would even help more someone that needs physio, etc

  • They also offer AIA vitality option. Rejoined them after finding out about the 7 weeks Covid free period despite being with them earlier this year (won’t be eligible for the 4 weeks) but much cheaper than going through AIA insurance

  • If i sign up what benefit will i be entitled to?

    • You get free weeks. Your entitlement depends on the policy you choose

  • So that means for 13 weeks i wont be charged anything as per this ad?

    • Correct, after the first 4 weeks.

    • after 4 weeks

      • On terms and conditions says you have to pay 1 month.

  • +1

I dont live in Vic but NSW would that work?

  • So pay for 4 weeks and get another 13 weeks free? Insane value.

  • +1

Technically, it looks like the 7 weeks is calculated based on premium on 25 Sep. So up your cover, be calculated 7 weeks, then lower coverage and get more time free

    • So you reckon signup to Basic Hospital + Basic Extra's now, change to Gold Hospital + Top Extra's for one week - perhaps 23 Sep, and then change it back to Basic Hospital + Basic Extra's to maximise premium rebate?

  • Title should say GMHBA

    • Thanks, good pick up, have amended.

  • Any experiences with this mob in terms of service etc?

  • I never had health insurance, which one covers kids in the family if i choose one? Or os it jist oneperson?

    • Just family and your dependents are free

  • dang. That’s a $1400+ saving.
Their premium is only $140 pa then I pay now.
So 10 years before I’m out of pocket for moving.

    • From family that have used them they also pay out particularly well for hospital so I kind of feel a bit dirty posting this deal but I'd hope that some people stay with them.

      • I actually feel bad leaving my current fund. Haven’t really had to use them much thankfully, they they’ve been great. I don’t really churn. Currently I’m on the cheapest premium for my family.
But these guys offer no excess for day hospital visits which is a big plus and I don’t think my fund offers that (on paper, they have just refunded me the excess when in practice though as a bonus).

        • +3

Why do you feel bad? They make lots of money. Don’t worry about it.

          • +1

@fozzie: Some of these insurers are not-for-profits like GMHBA.

            • @machej: Yeah mine is not for profit. It does cost a lot of money I agree.
Health Partners is my current fund. Most satisfied customers every year for 5 or 6 years if you believe Canstar.

          • @fozzie: Exactly! That they return 7 weeks is neglegible, as I am sure the profits are insane

        • I really wish I knew about this just a few months ago. 550$ just for the a daily procedure

  • Are you with HBA?

  • Trying to understand how this works, if you sign up prior to 20th Sep that's 20 weeks free?

    • +1

No the 13 weeks is inclusive of 7 weeks covid benefits. The standard offer is 6 weeks free.

      • Thought so, 13 weeks free is an odd number - still a decent offer.

  • I had a great cover with them and would join in a heartbeat if we’re not waiting for velocity points!
Love the extras cover 75% claim and don’t have to check “members providers” which was always a plus!

    • Damn same, can’t leave medibank until Oct

    • Technically I’m fairly sure you can double up insurance providers, but don’t quote me on that

  • How does the extras work? For example with dental, there is 1k limit and $300 sub-limit for preventative dental (what does this mean really?). If the cover for scaling is 55%, does that mean the fund will pay for 55% of it regardless of the dental location?

  • I moved to Aus 6 years ago. Single dad with 2 kids and with Bupa since I moved here. Is it worth moving around or should I just stay with them for $350pm?

    • +1

There's nothing stopping you from moving around. If you move with the same cover you'll have the same cover without reserving waiting periods. GMHBA is rated as a much better health insurer than Bupa which is worth considering as well.

  • link is just to the covid thing not to a 6 weeks free offer?

    • Sign up offer is 6 weeks after paying 4 weeks, Covid is 7 weeks. Here is the original Ozbargain offer: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/863079

      • yeah i worked it out after commenting lol.

found linking to the covid deal as the "deal" as well as linking to it again in the body of the deal confusing

  • Thanks OP. Any link to the member service providers? Both bupa and Medibank have a publicly accessible list of their member providers, but can’t find a similar list of service providers for GMHBA.

    • GMHBA doesn't subscribe to the whole allied healthcare stuff. They give either fixed amounts on extras or a % back at the provider of your choice.

  • +1

I've just paid my monthly fee to Bupa. Does anybody know if Bupa gives partial refund if I churn now or do I have to wait until the month end.

I guess I have to call to cancel and ask for refund?

    • Yes, all health insurance has to give a prorata refund from the day you leave. Some refund without you having to even ask.

    • Am in the same boat as you and I’m keen to know as well!

      • c get full refund pro rata always. And if it's a new policy, and you haven't made claims, there is usually cooling-off period

  • My 60 days with Qantas ends on 25 sept . Reckon I should sign up and let both run till my points land?

Only thing is I can't declare I'm switching funds as they would close my Qantas one

  • Ripper deal.
    Churned from HCF.

  • Probably a stupid question - I'm with medibank and how do I leave them? Call them up?

    • +2

No need to call anyone. Just sign up to this and give the details of your previous fund and the transfer happens automatically.

    • +1

You don't need to do anything. New fund will do it for you when you sign up.
Medibank have 14 days to send through your clearance certificate too them and refund you the unused portion of your current membership.

  • Noooo, just churned to Medibank private on 1 September…

  • I've been with Medibank for over 12yrs, is this better??

    • My understanding is anything is better than sticking to the same health fund for more than a year. I'm happy to be corrected, though.

  • I was with Frank Health Insurance which is part of GMHBA about a year ago. Anyone know if I'd still be eligible for the offer as I may not technically be a "new customer"?

  • When switching health funds, does the waiting periods reset for hospital cover or carry forward ? 3 more months to go for a 12 months waiting period on tonsillectomy

    • They get a certificate from your previous fund with how long of your waiting period has been served and carry it on from there.

    • Carry forward

  • I wouldn't recommend staying with GMHBA if you're interested in extras - the product sheet for those products comes with the most dodgy caveats I've ever seen…

    • Is this just in the product fact sheet or are there other caveats?

  • -2

Doesnt it say To have been eligible for a payment, members must have held an active resident policy for a minimum of 3 months between 1 April 2020 and 30 November 2022.

    • Happy to be corrected.

    • You are reading the "Who was eligible for the return of COVID-19 claims savings in 2022?" section. The current one is as follows:

Who is eligible for the 7-week contribution payment in 2024?
To qualify for the upcoming return of COVID-19 claims savings, GMHBA members need to hold an active private health insurance policy on 25 September 2024 and remain active on 30 September 2024.
