  • damn signing up asap

  • Crazy good deal.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm if it stacks

    • +5

Yes it stacks, in my welcome email they say I get it and I got the sign up deal. I just churned from Qantas after collecting the 60,000 points.

      • i have AHM one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/853764
which i purchased on 30th of june, and i am waiting for $100 refund.
Just want to know, what is the different between these 2 policies, Can i keep these 2 together and what should i do ?? someone care to explain please. don't know much about these health covers and how thay work.

      • I’m currently on the Qantas deal atm. If I sign up to this would I still be able to get my Qantas points.

        • Only if you're with them for 60 days (depending on the offer you signed up for). Their latest offer is a bit different as it has longer waiting periods on some points. They do give you the Qantas points super promptly though. If you won't get the points before September 25th you'd have to weigh up whether you want the points or the 13 weeks.

          • @machej: Dam hard to forfeit 120k Qantas points as it also earns me Qantas Club Plus.

            • @nightelves: Agree, if each point is worth 2 cents then it's $2400 of value + whatever you value PC.

        • +1

          Just sign up to both

      • -1

It's funny because I posted the previous deal but I haven't received any info on the 7 weeks free yet XD

      • Didn’t receive this in the welcome email

      • When did you get your welcome email?

      • can you confirm that your welcome email states both the 6 weeks free + 7 weeks covid offer? thanks!!!
weird that a couple of comments from others are saying that nothing is mentioned…???

I'm wondering if anyone else with welcome email capturing the stack offer

        • +1

It's not the first welcome email but the thanks for joining that you get 4-5 days later.

      • Im struggling to keep up here. Are GMHBA also offering 60k qff points on top of this 13 weeks free?

        • Different offers. Qantas offers points, GMBHA offer free weeks.

      • +1

Am a bit late to the game. Which one was the Qantas deal?

      • Where's the link to this Qantas health insurance? I just signed up to GMHBA…

      • Anyone in here still waiting for the confirmation email mentioning the bonuses? I haven't received any bonus confirmation. Only received the welcome email and this a little over a week ago.

        • I confirmed over chat that I qualify for the 6 weeks free and I signed up the night of the 13th. Then for the 7 weeks, it will only be looked at after 30 Sep as the condition is to have an active membership to this date. Well that's what they told me.

          • +2

@RenVilo: Thanks mate. I went and asked the chat support as well. Had quite the same response but was reassured the COVID benefit will be added too as the sign up was within the promotion period.

      • Can you tell me what your welcome email said? I have got a welcome email that didn't say anything, I want to confirm it worked.

        • My welcome email didn't mention any bonuses but I did get a separate one with the subject "Six weeks free applied".

In it was "Good news – your join offer of 6 weeks free has been applied to your membership.
There is nothing more you need to do."

    • May I know which stacking you are referring here? TIA

    • +1

"When will eligible memberships receive their seven-week contribution payment in 2024?
COVID-19 claims savings will be returned to eligible active memberships from 30 September 2024. On this date, the paid-to date for most eligible active policies will be moved forward 7 weeks. We’re working hard on getting these savings back to members and will send a reminder in September."

I found the above in the FAQs section at the bottom of the deal page. I think it's best to call to confirm. The cynical part of me thinks they're technically just giving you both benefits (doesn't say anything about extending the discount). Based on only the wording above, if:

      • you purchased this on 25 September - you get 4 weeks Covid Benefits, then 6 weeks Sign-up benefit kicks in (3 week overlap from weeks 5-7 inclusive with the 2 benefits, total 10 weeks free)

      • you purchased this in 2 days, Monday, 9 September - you get 1 week Covid Benefit from the 30, then the 6 week benefit kicks in (6 week overlap from weeks 5-10 inclusive, total 7 weeks free)

10 weeks is still a great saving

  • +1

    Godammit thats good
Just churning ahm at the moment.

    • I just churned a week ago for 6 weeks free, kicks in another 21 days… is it worthwhile to just churn again?

    • Sorry if this is a stupid question. When you churn these deals, do you need to re-serve 12 month waiting periods or can it be carried over between providers? I am looking to churn but have some services with 12 month waiting periods that I will need soon.

      • +1

If you stay on at least same level of cover, and supply transfer certificate to new fund, your waiting periods carry over to next fund

        • Is this process automatic?

          • +1

@boretentsu: Yes if you have been with previous fund a while. If you swap frequently you need to forward previous transfer certificates.

        • +2

bear in mind a difference in limits (e.g. $1000pa vs $1100pa) will mean a change in the level of cover

          • @ltwo: Is this just for extras or for hospital as well? I.e. Bronze to bronze

  • Question: Lots of health funds provides XXX weeks free offer every a few months, can I keeps transfer between different health funds?

    • +2

Yes, just collect all the clearance certificates, make sure you have continuous coverage at a base level of coverage you want and send the certificates to your latest health insurer. I wouldn't suggest churning often if you have health issues or are expecting a baby as it could create unnecessary annoyance.

      • I reckon I disagree with that. In Australia, policy covers are standardized by law, so if you switch to an equivalent cover, you'll get exactly the same benefits. We've got bronze, silver, and gold levels, and that's pretty much it. Health funds might try to keep you by offering a ‘plus’ option with a few extra perks, but don’t be fooled—the basic cover is the same across all funds. So, if you’re on a gold cover that includes pregnancy, you can swap to any other fund and still get 100% coverage.

Let’s get the word out and make switching health funds the norm!

        • I don't think we're disagreeing with each other. I'm not saying you'll lose your cover, I'm saying without all your clearance certificates if you've moved within the same year the next health fund won't know you don't need to reserve waiting periods. Generally only your previous health fund will generate a clearance certificate and send it automatically to your next fund.

          • @machej: Sending your own CC to new fund saves headache. It means they know about pre existing conditions waiting periods already served etc

            • @leeroys_dad: Correct, that's exactly what I'm saying. I will send 4 CCs to GMHBA after receiving my previous one.

              • +1

@machej: I have been churning consistenly, and usually I just let the new fund chace the previous one for the CC. But now you are making me think this twice. Any reason you do it yourself? It's so easy to just give your policy and they follow it up everytime

                • +1

@nomekop: You just want to ensure you have 12 months of CCs to provide the latest fund so you're always covered. There's no issue with churning but I wouldn't suggest people constantly do it if they have chronic health issues, could cause unwarranted stress.

                  • -1

                    @machej: Thanks for replying.
I think someone that has a chronic condition should churn even more as, assuming they will have a expensive policy, the savings are really substantial. I want to emphasise there is nothing to stress about, as the clearance certificates are generated quickly and apply reatroactively. They will be covered at all times.
Furthemore, churning helps to reset extras maximum benefits. Some health companies reset in july, some in january, so churning would even help more someone that needs physio, etc

                    • @nomekop: And if you raise flags and are denied cover you're screwed for the rest of your life when you have to declare you've been denied insurance before

                      • @0 0 0: Huh?

You wouldn't "raise flags" and health funds legally can't refuse to insure you.

                        • +1

@Aureus: Funds cannot legally deny you insurance. Why would you raide red flags? This is not like car insurance, as when you apply, the only thing they ask your name email and number.

You might be wondering how funds cover large expenses if a client transfer and has sudden high bills. For this instance, the health funds have a common fund pool which they can access in these instances. It ensures fairness for all.

                          • @nomekop: Think you meant to reply to the other guy.

      • +1

Hi, what is a clearance certificate and how do one obtain it?

        • It's a letter that your current insurer will issue to your new one when you leave. It contains information about who was covered on your policy, how long they were covered for, and what level of cover they held. It's issued automatically when the new insurer contacts the old one to request it. Note - you must tell your new insurer about the old one when you sign up and give them the member number and permission to contact the old fund.

  • They also offer AIA vitality option. Rejoined them after finding out about the 7 weeks Covid free period despite being with them earlier this year (won’t be eligible for the 4 weeks) but much cheaper than going through AIA insurance

    • dont think aia vitality option is availble for families

    • Is the AIA Vitality option also part of the covid 7 weeks extension? The FAQ doesnt say it isnt…

  • If i sign up what benefit will i be entitled to?

    • You get free weeks. Your entitlement depends on the policy you choose

  • So that means for 13 weeks i wont be charged anything as per this ad?

    • Correct, after the first 4 weeks.

    • after 4 weeks

      • +1

On terms and conditions says you have to pay 1 month.

  • +2

I dont live in Vic but NSW would that work?

    • Gmhba can be for anyone in Australia

  • So pay for 4 weeks and get another 13 weeks free? Insane value.

  • +3

Technically, it looks like the 7 weeks is calculated based on premium on 25 Sep. So up your cover, be calculated 7 weeks, then lower coverage and get more time free

    • So you reckon signup to Basic Hospital + Basic Extra's now, change to Gold Hospital + Top Extra's for one week - perhaps 23 Sep, and then change it back to Basic Hospital + Basic Extra's to maximise premium rebate?

    • Smart. Keeping fingers crossed about that. Does anyone know if changing can be done easily online?

  • Title should say GMHBA

    • Thanks, good pick up, have amended.

  • +1

I never had health insurance, which one covers kids in the family if i choose one? Or os it jist oneperson?

    • Just family and your dependents are free

  • dang. That’s a $1400+ saving.
Their premium is only $140 pa then I pay now.
So 10 years before I’m out of pocket for moving.

    • From family that have used them they also pay out particularly well for hospital so I kind of feel a bit dirty posting this deal but I'd hope that some people stay with them.

      • I actually feel bad leaving my current fund. Haven’t really had to use them much thankfully, they they’ve been great. I don’t really churn. Currently I’m on the cheapest premium for my family.
But these guys offer no excess for day hospital visits which is a big plus and I don’t think my fund offers that (on paper, they have just refunded me the excess when in practice though as a bonus).

        • +11

Why do you feel bad? They make lots of money. Don’t worry about it.

          • +1

@fozzie: Some of these insurers are not-for-profits like GMHBA.

            • @machej: Yeah mine is not for profit. It does cost a lot of money I agree.
Health Partners is my current fund. Most satisfied customers every year for 5 or 6 years if you believe Canstar.

          • +1

@fozzie: Exactly! That they return 7 weeks is neglegible, as I am sure the profits are insane

        • I really wish I knew about this just a few months ago. 550$ just for the a daily procedure

        • +1

Why feel bad? If you haven't had to use it much, then you've paid them for the privilege of getting a bit of a deduction if anything should go wrong.

Health insurers are not mum and pop shops.

They love taking your money, they don't love you.

          • @2024: If I knew about this policy, I would have moved to this fund right before

  • -3

    Are you with HBA?

    • -2

      Wtf would anyone downvote this?

  • -1

Trying to understand how this works, if you sign up prior to 20th Sep that's 20 weeks free?

    • +1

No the 13 weeks is inclusive of 7 weeks covid benefits. The standard offer is 6 weeks free.

      • Thought so, 13 weeks free is an odd number - still a decent offer.

  • I had a great cover with them and would join in a heartbeat if we’re not waiting for velocity points!
Love the extras cover 75% claim and don’t have to check “members providers” which was always a plus!

    • Damn same, can’t leave medibank until Oct

      • I’m in a similar postition. Evaluating whether is worth loosing the 2 weeks free with Medibank (policy is paid up to 4th October). This would mean for me pay a month and get 11 weeks free which is still a great saving.

        • Mine is paid until 9th of October. Have you received the 50k Medibank points yet? I'm just over 7 weeks, and I think it can up to 8 weeks.

          • @somethingguy: I received points. And you?

            • @fozzie: No points. When did you receive yours? Called Medibank and they reckon it can take up to 10 weeks.

              • @somethingguy: it's been a while. A couple of weeks at least. Have you signed up to live better?

    • Technically I’m fairly sure you can double up insurance providers, but don’t quote me on that

      • +2

Someone double check on this please. Im with corporate Bupa extras basic and wanna confirm.

        • +1

You can have as many insurance products as you like. But you can only claim from one

      • Correct. I have TUH hospital & extras and AHM top extras
