7 Weeks Free Health Insurance (COVID-19 Benefit, Stacks with Signup Benefit) @ GMHBA

3150

An insane deal as it seems to stack so you get the sign up benefit (expires 20/9) + Covid return benefit if signing up before 13th September. Duplicate offer removed from title — Mod.

Here is the Covid deal: https://www.gmhba.com.au/campaigns/returnofsavings

Here is the signup deal which has previously been posted on Ozbargain: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/863079

Could be worth >$1000 of value to some people.

⚠️ Important Notice ⚠️

Terms of the campaign was changed. To qualify for the upcoming return of COVID-19 claims savings, GMHBA members need to hold an active private health insurance policy from 13 September 2024 and remain active on 30 September 2024. See the full terms on their website.

The deal expiry date is updated to reflect 13th Sept as the last day to obtain this offer.

Most eligible members who were active on 1 September 2024 will have had their paid-to date moved forward by 7 weeks on 30 September 2024.
New members who joined GMHBA or reactivated their policy after 1 September 2024, and met the eligibility criteria for the 7-week contribution, will have this applied to their membership in the coming weeks. We will communicate further details with these members once the contribution has been made.

My app just updated. Paid to 5 Jan 2025, but next debit date is 7 Dec 2024. Sounds like they are going to charge me 2 days worth of insurance.

      The horror

  • Still no 7 weeks!

Btw, I'm now being told that I'm back to year 1 (eventhough I've been with my previous health provider for over 6 years), I just don't need to serve the waiting period because of the transfer. CS said, the years with previous health provider doesn't matter.
Is that normal? I thought we can carry our years of membership (means that I should be in year 6 with GMHBA, for some extras that has different cap because of years of membership)?

    • It's just waiting periods and limits used that transfer across. But if they are saying only 12 months, I'm fairly certain that's the maximum wait time for pre existing conditions.

It might be beneficial if you have hit any lifetime limits prior to that, they may not know about them!

      Basically, normal and no issue

But basically no wait time. So I'm transferring from Bupa mid level to GMHBA mid level too (comparable). I can use it right away, it's just thing that has cap of year 6 from Bupa, becoming cap of year 1 now (in other words, it's like I'm just having health insurance from now, like brand new customer, while the waiting period is waived). So in 12 months, nothing changed, as I'd only be year 2 (for item that has yearly cap like orthodontics, it'd only increase after year 4)

  • Does anyone have a screenshot of the offer terms on or before 20 September 2024? Would be very grateful to receive a copy.

I’m in a similar position to a few others, signed up on 20 September and could have sworn at that time that the 7 weeks offer only required you to be a member by sometime in late September, and not 13th September.

It’s clear that they changed the cut-off date at some point, just hoping to see if that point was on or before 20 Sept.

    Thanks in advance!

    • Screenshot from 13th September
If you signed up after 13th September, then these terms were updated (as scrimshaw also updated in this post).
You might have mistaken with this, which was the date they would credit it towards the eligible members.

      • Thanks, that’s very helpful.

Kicking myself! Must’ve read it before the terms changed on the 13th, and not looked again before signing up on 20th. Good reminder to me to always re-check terms before signing up to anything .

        • Sorry to hear that - costly mistake (invaluable life lesson?).
I almost made this mistake, I did follow the deal and enabled notifications. So I got a notification when it was updated.
I initially had set a reminder closer to the end date of original promotion.

  • Just received the email

Great news – GMHBA is covering 7 weeks of your premiums, and this contribution has been applied to your membership on 29/10/2024.

This 7-week premium contribution is part of our COVID-19 claims savings return to members.

    What you need to know
There’s nothing you need to do. You’ve qualified for this return, and we’ve moved your ‘paid-to date’ forward by 7 weeks.

The 7-week contribution was calculated on 25 September 2024 and based on the weekly net premium amount for your cover at the time. If there have been changes to your cover after this date, including to any rebates, loadings or discounts applied to your membership, then your premium contribution may no longer be precisely 7 weeks.

  • I got the 7 weeks and it is showing as a payment with the description of "Return of surplus" so it's possible you could churn/cancel and get the money back as a refund.

  • Just got the 7 weeks free applied today at around 7:30pm

  • Just received my 7 weeks as well.

  • Anyone NOT had theirs applied ?

  • Got my +7 weeks email today.

  • Still got the 7 weeks free even though I signed up a few days after the 13th of September. Not complaining 🤷‍♂️

  • Finally in the last few days, received my 7 weeks.
    No email though

    • Good stuff!!
