It’s a deal because it’s 6 weeks free after 4 weeks. Other funds require you to stay a minimum of 60 days, or even 90!
Furthermore, most funds are only offering 4 weeks free lately, not 6 weeks.

Would you know if the 6 weeks free is immediately after the 4 paid weeks or applied sometime later?

  • Medibank have a mixed discount.

    Says:

8 weeks free for extras + $50 giftcard
4 weeks free for hospital+extras (used to be 6 weeks) + points for a few hundred in gift cards.

    https://www.medibank.com.au/

    • Yeah, Medibank is not too good now. That’s why I like this deal

      • Still the best offer out there I think (with the 4 weeks + few hundred in giftcards).

    • Left Medibank after joining for 2 weeks. Am I still a new member after a month?

  • Anyone have any luck claiming the free weeks as an existing customer?

They did for me earlier this year when they had a similar promotion and I asked :)

I received an email saying as an existing member I'll be getting 7 weeks free from gmhba as well. Check your emails or spam.

      …. From email:
Great news, we'll be covering 7 weeks of your premium payments.

From 30 September 2024, COVID-19 savings will be returned via a premium contribution for eligible member policies.

To be eligible for this payment, your GMHBA policy needs to be active on 25 September 2024 and remain active on 30 September 2024.

      • When did you join them?

  • I don't get it. I'm currently paying $563pm for Medibank's Gold Complete Hospital and Top Extras 90. The equivalent (and highest cover) at GMHBA seems to be Gold Optimum Hospital and Top Extras 75% which is over $750!

    • I did a rough quote and I got a price of $800pm with GMHBA. Paying $550 or so with medibank as well for Gold and mid level extras.

      • glad it's not just me seeing this. i thought i mistakenly picked some ultra premium top cover with GMHBA!

With Medibank extras do you get a rebate of a set percentage for all appointments till the claimable limit is used up or is there a scale of different rebate percentages depending on whether it's the initial set number of appointments and less after? My current policy is the former at 80% (off eg. $600 pa for Physio) and I am looking for a similar policy.

  • Can I join hospital + extras and immediately get a tooth cleaning plus physio visit? Also how do you claim gym membership? Can I pay for 1 year membership and get refunded, then cancel the insurance?

    • 1) Teeth cleaning has no waiting periods, so yes, you can do it right away.
      2) Physio has a waiting period of 6months, but the promotion waives the waiting perio, so yes, you can use right away.
      3) Gym membership will require a letter from your GP or medical practicioner first.

You can cancel at any point and get pro-rate refund

      • And for optical?

        • For optical you can access right away. With specsavers you can get a solid par of glasses for free

  • Never churned before, but currently existing member with medibank (combined hospital and extras for family of 3) and considering jumping on this today

Anyone know if I sign-up/transfer to GMHBA today from Medibank, does membership activate immediately so that I'm eligible for this deal? or does the transfer normally take a few days pending Medibank side of things?

Don't want to pull the trigger only to miss out on the deal lol

  • would it be possible to sign up today but start the policy in the future and still receive 6 weeks free, for example start 8 October

    • Probably yes! Just give them a call, they can help you :)

      • I actually did call them and they confirmed you can :)

  • Hey

Just confirming people who signed got their 6 weeks free?
I signed up on 29th August and have paid 5 weekly instalments but can't see anything on account saying 6 weeks free and next "payment due" still saying this Friday 4th October.
Rang call centre and said they can see my "free 6 weeks" sign up option and it should kick in soon and likely as I paid weekly it needs 5 payments to equal a month - so hopefully should kick is soon I was told.

Was slightly complicates it is the 7 weeks free COVID rebate will kick in tomorrow as well I was told. So I am hoping the 2 options don't conflict but I was told all should be good.

But if works OK, the 13 weeks is a good option! Fingers crossed….
