      This is a good question, and the answer is quite simple for the US, because US politics affects us just as much as our own.
      As much as people like to think that all countries act in some sort of insulated bubble free of influence from the outside, the fact is that Australia's existence is only possible through the existence of a strong USA. Our economy, security and a lot of our culture is strongly linked. So it is our interest to ensure they remain strong so that we also remain strong.

      The other reason is that is makes great drama. And if you understand the mechanics of drama, villains vs heroes, the kayfabe aspect etc we are all magnets for it.

      I still can't wrap my head around why we in Australia get so invested and emotional about the politics in America, especially as a lot of the same people that get so excited about American Politics know so little about our own system. We are having some very heated arguments in these comments about political parties that are part of a different country.
      Maybe (just my opinion) we are getting too invested with social media i.e. American politics trend more so these people are seeing a lot of "news" items on their accounts about what the Democrats or Republicans (depending on their viewing history) are up to. We then fall into the tribe mentally of us (the very good people) and them (the very bad people).
