I have been advised by Incomm that they have lifted the restriction on Paypal, Sniip, and Amazon (see my comment here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15428492/redir)

However, the terms and conditions still state that recurring transactions are not permitted, and we can't get out of that one unfortunately. I couldn't get it to work with a recurring insurance payment and Spotify directly via their site.

    • Still does not work with sniip..trying to pay my super with no success

      • Could you add it as a payment method but then wasn't able to pay with it into super? or you couldn't even add it as a payment method at all?

        • I managed to just add it as a payment method, but haven't tried actually paying a bill yet (ain't got anything to pay right now)

          • @dinted: Yes, I too managed to add it as a payment type but haven't tried paying with it yet

        • I can add to the payment method but unable to use it to pay the super fund

          • @cuteduck: Which super fund is it? What error does sniip have? I can only try on July 1st, but I can ask Incomm maybe.

            • @dinted: It does work tonight for payment to qsuper

  • Anyone know if these cards get restocked daily?

    • +1

Was told by a guy at my local store that they come in batches instead of periodically so hard to say when's the next restock

      • I got the last two (variable load) in a store yesterday at about 2pm I think, and there were heaps more today after 5pm so no problems.
Couldn’t pay using my Prezzee gift cards though :(

  • got an error at woolies when trying to use these cards to buy groceries "over limit" something

  • Spent most of the value on paying off AIA Health and the remainder on Sydney Water (through PayPal). Thanks!

  • So has anybody tried these with sniip yet?

    • Tried to pay my strata levy, which also declines paying by vanilla visa gift cards. No luck.

It said: Payment method not selectable. This biller does not support this payment method.

  • Turns out not everywhere can "swipe". Tried to pay for dinner last night, the joint uses a basic Square Reader that can only do contactless and chip insert, not magnetic strip.

    • That (and the square stand) is probably the only pos that doesnt allow magstripe transactions.

      • It was a decent restaurant with multiple locations, they have iPads on every table to place orders, so I wonder who made the technology choice to go for the cheapest Square Reader for payment, it doesn't look like a business who can't afford a $300 Square Terminal.

Even small takeaway joints can afford, if not buy, to rent smart terminals.

Buy Restaurant Choice and add it to digital wallet.

    • Also found that some Commonwealth Bank card readers (like at my local pharmacy) don't have swipe either, so can't use these gift cards there.

      • Which Commonwealth Bank EFTPOS terminal are you talking about? There are currently four available for merchants and three of them have a magstripe reader.

        • The Smart Mini does not have a magstripe reader.

        • The Smart has the magstripe reader hidden on the bottom of the EFTPOS terminal, below the screen. That would mean you would need to physically pick up the EFTPOS terminal to swipe your Vanilla Visa gift card, and I did have one merchant once become confused when I asked whether I could grab the EFTPOS terminal to swipe my card.

        • The Smart Integrated and Essential Plus have the magstripe reader to the right of the EFTPOS terminal screen (like most EFTPOS terminals).

  • I bought two and used them to pay ahm private health insurance and the balance remaining to top up my Linkt toll account with no issues.

I've been buying a lot of cards and this has never happened to me before. I bought two happy birthday cards and loaded $500 on each. When I opened them, each one was missing numbers on the front, there were all twelve numbers instead of sixteen and no security code on the back. Very disturbing. I called them and they said to send photos and a copy of the receipt. Please hang on to that receipt. Previously, I was only saving the activation paper.

Your cards were tampered like the issue above. Not surprising in Melbourne, from all the stories over the years.

    • +1

If you're willing, possibly share which store you bought from? Would be a welcome heads up to others that purchased from the same place to check their cards if they haven't opened them yet.

    • Are they going to send you out new cards? Or do a bank transfer of the money owed?

      • They said they will send me new cards.

        • You can ask for a refund as it is considered as a major defect under the ACL. It is your choice to opt for a refund or a replacement. You will get the full amount + card fees transferred back to you. I have done it once with incomm and they were pretty cooperative.

  • Anyone else having issues using this vanilla visas to buy shopback supermarket gift cards?

    • Bought $200 and $300 successfully tonight after 40 minutes of buying vanilla visa. Used ShopBack supermarket to buy restaurant choice at coles

      • I am still getting "Please try again or use another payment method".
Worked fine with the vanilla mastercards, but these visa ones are failing for me

  • +2

I use them frequently and about 80% of the time there is no problem. When an acceptance problem arises, in addition to my sometimes using Paypal, I find it easier to use it at PostBillPay (The Australia Post bill payment website)

  • Has anyone used these for super contributions?

  • Tried to use a Vanilla Visa to pay Leaptel (ISP) - no dice, didn't work.
The card did however work with OVO Energy (electricity retailer) - dumped the entire $500 on there, which should give me plenty of credit for a few months.

Might pick up some more next time I'm at Woolworths so I can pay the ATO next week.

  • Can we add this card to Google Wallet?

    • +2

      No.

All Vanilla Visa gift cards sold in Australia do not support any mobile wallets.

      • +1

        Thanks

  • Are we able to pay ATO extra by using this card and claim the money back on tax return?

    • +3

Yes but after my previous experience I strongly recommend against it. If you have a refund due to excess payment in advance they don't just process as a normal refund. They cancel the original card payment so the money will go back on the card. But they claim not to have the card details on file so you need to have the card details (eg. Still have the card) or they can't process the cancellation and you can't get your money back. And they don't notify you of any of the above, you need to chase them after you notice you didn't receive the refund. And you'll be chasing them for months trying to get it all resolved.
Somewhere in an earlier post for another prepaid card deal I've shared a longer version of my experience if you're interested in more info. But I wouldn't do it. It's ok to use prepaid cards to pay some of an expected tax debt in advance, just make sure not to prepay too much and end up with a refund due.

      • +1

Thank you for sharing your experience.

      • If they really dont have the original card details, you should be able to give them your bank card details and tell them you paid from there. They cant prove you wrong lol.

    • Not from my experience. I had $2500 stuck there for a few years, until I finally had a tax debt last year. I tried ages ago just to see what happens, the overpayment didn’t get returned with my normal tax return. I think they can manually process it back to the original cards as mentioned above, but it was too much headache.

  • so how many cards people are buying, is anyone useing multiple accounts to buy more cards? I will end up with about 20 cards and will use for tax bill so in all about 20X$17 = $340 savings

    • I’m still yet to find one to buy lol.

Are we able to pay for this card by using Woolworths rewards dollars?

  • -2

Can we use the cards to buy more cards? e.g. buy 2 x $500 cards and then buy 2 more each day at the cost of an additional ~$15 a day

    • -1

Don’t know why you were negged but I think the days of prepaid CC inception is over.
There may be a chance that the coles Mastercards will still work for certain types of cards in WW but I believe the pure play of using the same type of card to roll through over and over again is over.

  • No variable at Woolies Belconnen (ACT) but plenty at Hawker (ACT) down the road.

  • Used the cards to pay my ACT rates with no issues.

Though couldn't top up my account on Launtel with it.
"Sorry we were unable to charge from your credit card. Message from our payment provider : Transaction declined (additional customer authentication required) (2022)"

  • Used 2 already with no issues. Just use them fast to avoid getting them drained and ensure the packaging is intact with the codes on the back.
