Update :
Just received an excellent condition iphone 12.
These are the only 2 small marks on the phone - just the front bottom edge
Battery health is 80%

bought it for my youngest whose iphoneX is glitching and cracked.

original ebay refurb code deal

refurbished: a euphemism for used

the above prices are for ebay Plus members who get 22% off refurbished items using code RFURB22 $389.22 (64GB), $428.22 (128GB)

for non-eBay plus peoples then use RFURB20 for 20% off, the prices are $399.20 (64GB), $439.20 (128GB)

yeah, a 3 year old phone, but these prices are less expensive compared to other recent deals like this 128 GB for $479 and this 128 GB for $479

the phones are used/refurbished and described as "Excellent Condition" , which the seller lists as -

"This item is in excellent cosmetic condition, showing minimal signs of wear such as small scratches or marks, which are only visible close up. It is fully functional having passed our 72-point diagnostic check. 30 Day Satisfaction Guarantee"

feedback for this seller is pretty decent - 98.9%

seller gives a 1 year warranty and a 30 day "satisfaction guarantee" - so there is that bonus compared to buying a used device from some random on marketplace.

The seller was selling the various version of iPhones including Japan version. Meanwhile, the condition may surprise you. However, it was easy returns if you don't mind waste your time and try your luck.

    • free return?

      • With eBay plus free returns.

    • was broken so returned
      Big bright spot on screen

Bought a phone from greengadgets before. The phone was in better condition than I expected. YMMV. Also provided a GST receipt on request for TRS.

    • +1

I bought an iPhone 13 listed in "as new" condition, that was in immaculate condition except for the battery being at 81% health, which is borderline. Their customer support was useless in just offering a return/exchange/refund.

      • +5

mate be glad they offered you return/exchange/refund option.
most of the times you gotta fight for that option.

    • How do you request for the receipt? Do they have a working phone number?

      • I think you can just send them a message on ebay. I waited to get the phone to see if they supplied a GST receipt with the phone delivery, but they didn't. I sent them a message on ebay and they sent me one via ebay messages. The receipt was basic, but it had all the details required for TRS.

    • +4

I bought 4 and they were all worse than described, only kept 1 as it was "good enough" and returned the rest.
Just your standard lying ebay seller.

      • what was wrong with them?

    • +1

Over a year ago I received a USA version Galaxy S10e from them because it was locked to AT&T it's impossible to update the firmware in Australia.

  • +1

This or Pixel 7 entry phone?

    • +6

France banned iPhone 12 as tests showed it breached EU radiation max limits. It's 10x the head radiation of Galaxy Note 10+ (not counting the other gadgets like eabuds, etc).
All this for only 64GB (or 128) today? My previous Note 8 has more memory + microSD with up to 1TB, S-pen & SpO2 sensor (more for less, unlike Apple less features is more $s ;)

      • +6

        It's now legal.

        It was a beat up.

        • +1

Yeah, it's not going to do any real harm, but make sure you don't use an iPhone 12 while eating a banana, you could asplode.

          https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-09-14/what-does-france-s-ip…
However, this represents no risk to human health, the chair of ICNIRP, Rodney Croft, said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and other international health bodies say there is no definitive evidence that radiation from mobile phones causes other adverse health effects.

However, it has called for more research.

How worried should Australian mobile phone users be?
          Not much.

The radiation from your phone is not going to harm you, Professor Ken Karipidis, assistant director of health impact assessment at the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency, told ABC News.

All imported telecommunication devices must be tested by suppliers underneath a requirement from the Australian Communications and Media Authority.

The Australian SAR limit is 4 watts per kilogram, the same as the French safety standard.

But even if phones were emitting the SAR level that caused France's ban, Professor Karipidis said there still would be little reason for concern.

"As soon as people hear 'radiation', they get scared straight away because they think nuclear, but radiation is not one thing," he said.

"The type of radiation that comes out of mobile phones are radio waves. Anything that’s wireless communication – phones, wi-fi, televisions, radio — produce these waves."

Professor Karipidis says that at very, very high levels, radio waves can produce a heating effect, like a microwave making your food hot.

"The radio waves you get from telecommunication devices are nowhere near that level," Professor Karipidis said.

"You need more than 20 [watts per kilogram] for excessive heating to occur. We set the limit at a very conservative level for safety factors."

        • +1

I wouldn't say it was a beat up, but it has been fixed

  • +5

This phone battery is rated really poor, not sure if refurbish makes it worst

    • +3

Refurbish surely won't make it better. Lol

  • +4

I bought one of these last November for $499. The phone was in good physical condition with 84% battery health which isn't great but I have a feeling iPhone batteries plateau at the low 80s for a long time so Apple doesn't have to replace them under warranty. I say this because I have another iPhone 12 that I bought 3 years ago which has been sitting at 84% for about 1½ years.

  • +18

I'm gonna be that guy and say $400+ for a 3-and a half year old phone that you're going to have to spend an additional $169 (Nice) just to get the battery replaced shortly after.

Not really a good deal despite the great software support.

  • +2

No doubt the physical part of the phone will be top notch. Past experience with batteries on these Refurb iphones has been very mixed. Proceed with caution

From Green Gadgets for $966.42 ($919 with discounted gift cards) got GST invoice so can claim $112.62 GST via TRS. Will cost me $805.5

        • You clever dick !

        • Will need to declare it if bringing back into Australia though…

          • @jv: Yup or coughup the penalty

          • @jv: It will be with the wife on the way back ;)

            • +1

@jedimaster: They have dealt with this issue as they now state clearly on the TRS refund that you or somone else who carries the item for you must declare it on return, the even tell you which box you must tick on return form.

But seeing as there are two of you it wont matter, as if they stop you on return then can say it is within your duty free allowance which is $900 per person so $1800 for both of you.

    • You know you're meant to pay the GST if you bring the item back into Australia, right?

      • +1

Not if it’s under the threshold ($900 for adults and $450 for kids, and it stacks, so a family of 4 is $2700).

    • So you haven't even had time to assess the battery life

  • +2

I just bought a 13 Pro Max in ‘Excellent’ condition from Green Gadgets and it was absolutely pristine, not a mark on it. The battery was 87% health which I was happy enough with (not incredible, not bad), still way better life than my last iPhone even when new.

Working perfectly for the last month.

If you don’t like the condition you can send it back no questions asked.

    • Nice to know you got it in pristine condition. How much you bought it for and what’s the storage capacity?

      • 128Gb for $860. Was a tax deduction so basically works out a free changeover after selling my iPhone XS Max.

I would have been ok with a 12 Pro Max (performance wise, even my XS Max was still buttery smooth) but the combination of far lesser battery capacity, and a year older battery made that less appealing.

        • +1

Thank you for the update. I hope you enjoy your new phone for years to come.

    • +1

iPhone batteries don't last as long. My >2y older Galaxy Note 10+ has 86% battery health with >300 apps & 25W fast charging (given to my partner). My 14mths S23 Ultra has 100% battery with even more apps & use.

      • My experience is quite the opposite

        • I used AccuBattery to keep 20-80% of battery range. Now & use Samsung 85% auto turn off & frequent optimise app to remove hyperactive apps. The S23 Ultra lasts up to 2 days if I charge 100% (sometimes).
In the Apple store, they told me iPhone batteries don't last as long as in my Note 10+ & S23 Ultra is much better.
There could be some bad apples with Samsung ;)

      • My experience is the opposite. Had iPhones since the iPhone 4S and not had a battery ever cause me issues. I keep phones minimum 3 years.

  • iPhone 13 mini for $550 from same seller. Same processor as the 14. Pretty good bang for buck?

    • Under $500 for "good" condition.

If you like small phones, then yes that's a very good deal.

  • +2

These phones are now old and pretty much on the brink of requiring a battery replacement, which isn't cheap and not good if getting aftermarket. You've been warned.

  • +3

It's sad that this is what those who are stuck into apples ecosystem have to deal with. You can get amazing new android phones for this price.

    • +1

You can get amazing new android phones for this price.

Not everyone wants or likes android phones though.

      • +2

That's not their fault though, they should have options. Apple is anti competitive.

        • +2

          Apple is anti competitive.

          Most people don't care.

          They still prefer iphones.

        • +1

          they should have options.

          They do, and choose iphones.

          • +1

@jv: Indeed, the rest of my family do this. Then I get asked to take all the holiday photos because I have a Pixel.

      • There's that many of them that surely most people could find at least one they like. Unless they are part of the apple cult that is.

    • +1

Stuck? I very much choose this ecosystem. I tried a flagship Android for a few years. I would gladly pay extra for an iPhone and iOS. Integrates seamlessly with my other devices. iMessage, AirDrop and shared clipboard alone are enough to keep me choosing Apple. I use my Windows PC and Android TV only when I need hacked or pirated apps

    • -2

I can't though. I need large phones (iPhone Pro Max size) so the following are my options and none of them have dropped this low:

      • Google Pixel 8 Pro
      • Google Pixel 7 Pro
      • Google Pixel 6 Pro
      • Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
      • Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
      • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
      • Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra
    • Did you come to an Apple ozb deal to tell us to buy android? No deal!

  • +1

Last time I bought an "excellent" condition Iphone from ebay (different seller). The phone came with NO marks however the screen had been replaced. I could tell easily because the "True Tone" option was missing. The good thing of ebay is that you can return easily without any problems.

    • +1

Thanks for sharing - this is a good check to do for people when ordering refurbished.

    • +1

This can’t be done easily from the iPhone 11 onwards. No generic screens can be used without a warning in the settings. Not only that, even a genuine screen also has the warning unless the new screens chip is programmed by Apple to that iPhone. How fun…

  • +3

Add another $120-140 for a new battery after a few months. Or even now depending how much you value battery life.
Would rather go for something like Redmi 13 pro for now and save up for maybe 17 pro max with anti reflective display?
Honestly after experiencing it, there is no point in buying a new high-end phone without anti reflective coating.
    It's such a game changer.

Just heads up with buying refurbished iphones from ebay. I bought an iPhone 12 pro max last year which arrived in an excellent condition however the touchscreen just stopped working after 3/4 months after the purchase.

I had a terrible experience getting it remediated as ebay wouldn't help and told me to talk to the seller and the seller was taking like a week to respond to questions. After like a month of back and forth I was sent a replacement iphone which also had issues connecting to the mobile network. All in all Id never buy a refurbished iPhone from eBay again.

  • Bought a refurbished S22 plus last year for my dad. Phone was like new with no issues. Although the included generic cable and usb charger I will not use at all. It caused overheating. Other than that, they have good return policy.

  • Previously ordered an iPhone 12 mini through them. Condition was labeled as "as new" but had dents on the frame, but they were happy to exchange it for me.

  • +1

I purchased a couple of iPhones from these guys and they have been rock solid.

  • Pretty happy with this seller overall - 2 of the 3 phones I've bought from them for family under Excellent condition were almost brand new physically, with battery around 85-90% (though 1 of them was had a south Korean carrier's firmware but was in English and worked perfectly).

However, the s22 Ultra I got for mum was nowhere near as nice and you can tell the phone had been dropped a few times without a case. To their merit, they responded quickly, I sent the phone back and got a refund straight away in the span of a week.

  • +1

Copped an iphone from these guys - charging port stopped working at the 8 month mark but they were still happy to exchange. Thumbs up from me

  • good price

My 12 struggles and freezes a lot especially when taking photos. Can’t believe they’re still being sold new.

    • +1

My 12 mini flies (i got it a year ago brand new from the famous Amaysim sale).

    • +1

What's your battery health? iPhones slow down and start getting wonky below 80% Or maybe you should try resetting and restoring from backup if the battery isn't the problem. My 3-year-old 12 is still running fine with no issues.

    • should not be any problem, iphone 12 antutu score is 621K, even for today, iphone 12 performance is better than 80% of the smart phone on the market.

  • +1

I would not waste my time to try my luck.

  • I bought a brand new Pixel 6 and an "as new" condition M1 Macbook Pro refurb. Both are excellent devices. Highly recommended.

  • bought a 12 128gb only a month ago or so. Beautiful condition, and phone is running perfectly.

  • +1

Just received a “good condition” 12 mini with new battery and it looks like some one used it to play hockey with.

The frame is absolutely beat up with scratches and dents, as for “refurbished “ I highly doubt anything was done, the speaker and buttons are full of dirt and there is still a hair sticking out of the frame.

Oh, and the screen is also loose? In the frame like if you push down it rocks in the body.

  • +1

Just received an excellent condition iphone 12.

These are the only 2 marks on the phone - just the front bottom edge

    Battery health is 80%

  • any plus model with bigger screen and battery?

  • Bought an "excellent" condition 64GB iPhone 12. Arrived in two days via express post. Packaged very well. Incredibly minor scuff on case. Almost non-existent. Max battery capabity listed as 88%. Very happy. Your mileage may vary ofcourse
