What has been refurbished on these units?

    • +23

Almost certainly nothing - refurb is just becoming the same as used these days.

      • +5

        refurbished: a euphemism for used

    • +1

They just wiped it clean with a cloth

      • Do they at least hold it up fog it with their breath before wiping it clean?

  • +2

Any deals on the mini version rep?

  • +1
    • +1

      That's a 12 Mini, this is just a standard 12?

      • +7

Shit, thought it said mini - might need to go OPSM

        • Nah, shoulda gone to Specsavers.

          • @ethanio12345: I am a simp for RayBan's. However I buy them from the UK and delivered to Australia as I am a huge fan of Zeiss lenses.
$240 delivered for a top quality pair of Rayban Clubmaster Optics with the best German Lenses.

    • I only see a $20 code - does it show the correct code on checkout?

      but anyway this is cheaper.

      • I am eBay Plus - PLUSB1XXXXXXXXXX is the code prompted

    • Thanks @AircraftFreight.

    • +9

yikes - thats what I'm trying to upgrade from

    • +5

In my experience you start getting performance issues and early shutdowns in the low 80s. Really not much of a buffer.

I'd definitely be factoring the costs of a new battery from Apple in the price.

      • -1

I have the exact same model as the phone for sale in this post at 79% battery health I've yet to have one random shutdown

        • I think it really depends on the phone, but my 7+ had a 68% battery life and it surprisingly ran perfectly (other than the battery). Only thing I ran in to was the camera app not letting me turn on torch because of low voltage (only happened once and my battery was like 4%)

    • +6

It’s annoying these refurb phones don’t have new batteries. Around 85% is close to end of life.

      • +3

thats right 82% = dead iirc
phone is programmed to keep showing 82 even after it degrades further for Apple to avoid warranty claims

        • +1

My iPhone battery shows 78%, it's well and truly stuffed. It shows 'service' and when you click on it again it shows the %

        • +2

do you have sources that I can read futher about the 82%? genuinely asking

          • +1

@Jasongood: someone on this site mentioned it. Could be conspiracy

          • +2

@Jasongood: When it hits 80% the phone says the battery is cooked and needs servicing. so 82% is essentially cactus

        • I had an iphone 6s that did this but at 83% my current iphone 12 showed 86% for ages and then dropped quickly to low 80s and now is at 79% after 3 years

    • Site under the grading info says :"For Apple iPhone 8 models and older, 85% is the minimum battery health allowed under this grade. For iPhone X and over, 80% or over battery health is acceptable."

So its 80%+ battery. Factor in a new battery.

      • Apple says anything above 80% is fine. My real world experience says otherwise.

      • My iPhone 12 is at 79% health and the battery life is absolutely terrible I have a charger in my car so I haven’t been bothered to get the battery replaced as I use it on charge a lot.

  • Noice, at least the Refurb ones come with a Charger

  • +2
    • +1

      Looks like for 64GB.

    • +1

If you actually spend the time to look for a 128 GB model in good condition with 85% battery health, you would see that that costs $100 more

  • -1

I know nothing about iPhones is this cheap?

    • +4

3 years old and used, for an iPhone it's cheap, but whether it is value or not might be a different question.

    • +1

If your budget is $500, I doubt you'll find a better phone. You'll get software support until 2027 which is longer than most android phones released last year.

      • thanks

        • You might be better off waiting for the new SE as you’ll get much more software update support.

      • It's a shame they're not selling new iPhone XRs anymore. I picked up one of the last ones JB hifi stocked for like $600.

  • +3

Review: I bought 2x "like new" but refurbed iphones from them in the past 2 months. Great experience. Very responsive on messenger and whatsapp. Phones arrived in good condition as expected (better even).

  • +3

“7 Days change of mind returns“
Makes it less of a gamble with the battery.

Battery is guaranteed 85%. This is standard.
My last refurb iphone (not from these guys) was actually 95%.

If you get an 85% consider returning it as performance will soon start dropping.

  • +2

iPhone 12 was banned in France for exceeding head SAR radiation :(
The lowest radiation on Note 10+ (10x lower than iPhones; unfortunately, I had to upgrade to S23U for the superior camera& 8K, but gave it to the wife ;)

    • +3

Well yeah that happens when you change the parameters of the radiation test.

    • +2

im sure you will also never fly on a plane again either to minimise your radiation exposure

      • -5

What a dumb, dumb comment! and if you have to ask why, then that will answer your question.

        • +2

x-ray and ct scans are sooooooo safe thats why radiologists have to hide behind concrete & lead

            • @[Deactivated]: So we should ban frequent flyer programs as they incentivise increased exposure to ionising radiation

        • +2

Flying will expose you to higher levels of ionizing radiation, which unlike non ionizing (e.g mobile phone networks and WiFi), can in fact cause harm.
So whining about radiation which will not harm you yet ignoring radiation that could is very hypocritical and illogical!

    • +1

      That’s been fixed

    • Non Ionising radiation is not a health concern outside of thermal burns at high power, any claims otherwise are pseudoscience.

    • France only cares about radiation when it might affect France.

  • +5

    Might wait for iPhone 13

  • This is a fair price honestly

  • -1

    original box?

    • Refurbished never do. Not even Apple does with their refurbished program.

  • +1

This will be an Old battery and a 3 year old USED phone.

  • Not a deal

  • Anything with more storage? ((profanity) paying for icloud)

    • +1

I'm all for giving Apple less money, but am honestly a big fan of the icloud storage product for a few bucks a month. The automatic sync for photos and backups every day, and having access to everything across devices is nice. Couldn't imagine losing thousands of photos/memories because my device was lost/stolen with no backups.

      • +3

True, I suppose we can always just become turkish

        • +5

          That would be a delight!

  • +6

How can you possible have a 'Refurb' with 80% battery and screen scratches. That's not refurbishing, that's just sorting.

  • I bought this phone new on the Amazon $797 deal late last year.

Fabulous very fast phone, don’t be put off by the age of the thing. For the vast majority of users the phone is a rocket.

Now “refurbs” are a lottery, factor in the cost of a new battery ….. from Apple

    • 3 generations behind the latest and greatest. Yeah with the way phone technology is going, not a huge difference between this and the latest and greatest. I personally would want something newer and keep longer. I get if you only have $500 to spend options are limited if you must have an iPhone.

  • Where are people getting the 80% battery from?

According to sellers website the Battery is guaranteed minimum 85%.

  • 250$ maybe deal. Since last deal was 370$ish for new last year

    • I only have seen the iPhone 12 Mini brand new goes at that price point last year.

  • Does it come with a GST invoice?

  • can i have a purple color one

    • This is pretty sad.

      • not as sad as ppl who spend hours writing comments

  • +5

Mods: A better description might me [Used] instead of [Refurb] as sanitizing the product does not make it refurbished.
If it had a New Battery it could be considered [Refurb]

  • Bought a "refurbished" iPhone 12 Pro off eBay end of last year. Battery was at 82%. Noticed it had a bad drain issue, even without using it I could see the percentage drop before my very eyes. I suspected it may have had water damage at some point, as that was exactly what I experienced with a previous iPhone with water damage, it couldn't regulate its power.

Sent it back to the seller as it had "12 month repair or replace warranty" so I expected to get something back that actually worked. But after a week I simply got a message on Ebay that they refunded me. Bit annoyed but I figured they couldn't be bothered fixing it and would just try and sell it again to the next sucker. Refurbished should mean any errors with screen, battery, connections etc are replaced and brought back to new.

  • +1

Theres nothing refurbed about 85% battery or minor damage. To me refurb is parts get changed out where necessary. Otherwise its just 'used'.

  • +4

Great to see the store rep doesn't answer questions about how this has been refurbished after posting the deal.
Don't expect to see good support after purchase if that's the case.

  • Out of Stock guess i missed out will have to look for the next best iphone deal

  • +1

In regards to “refurbished” , thats an ongoing issue everywhere , not just this seller. Its a meaningless term that’s become a euphemism for “second hand”.

That said , these guys do give a clear indication of battery quality and accept change of mind returns. So they actually seem pretty reasonable.

    sold out now anyway
