  • Dual SIM: nano + eSIM

    A plus.

Look out for Notebookcheck review, yet to be available.

    • Any idea how many eSIMs it can store? I believe phones only allow 2 SIMs at once, so you can probably use 2 eSIMs at the same time.

      • +1

Only one esim can be active at the time. you can store more thn 4 esims (how much more … no idea)

          From: https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-s23-series/dual-e…

The S24s are the only Android phones apart from pixels that have dual eSIM support.

That's very strange and very disappointing. I use 2 eSIMs on my Pixel simultaneously. I thought this would be a good phone to go back to if I were to use Samsung again. I guess I'll have to stick with the Pixels. ☹️

            @BadGiraffe:

use 2 eSIMs on my Pixel simultaneously

            Reason & must-have?

            • @ab c: I travel a lot, so I have 2 eSIMS. True, I don't need them both on at the same time, but when I go to smaller country towns, having the 2 SIMs on helps when I lose connection on the main one. I use the failover option or whatever it's called.

I guess I use eSIMs just because it's available on the Pixel. If I go back to another phone maker that doesn't allow simultaneous eSIMS, I can just get a physical SIM for one of them.

          • @BadGiraffe: This might be a misunderstanding?
I have a Galaxy A55 and use two eSIMs. Two connections can be active at once (nanoSIM/eSIM or eSIM/eSIM), so trying to enable a third prompts to turn another off one first. It's also got the same option for automatic failover.
You can then choose which of the two to use for any combination of calls, texts and data. I've had my phone set to use one eSIM for outbound calls and texts and another eSIM for data, but still received texts to both eSIMs without changing the option.
I've got 7 eSIMs stored, and the option to add more is still there.

            • @Whacka: On an A series? That link is inaccurate and very misleading then. Thanks for that.

I do miss my A53. I'll consider this one. Maybe not this time. I'll wear my Pixel out first.

    • AU-model A36 vs A35: improvement includes,
      a.8Gb ram
      b.Dual SIM: nano + eSIM
      c.45W wired charging: prioritising speed/convenience over battery-longevity
      d.6 yrs Android updates
      e.others?

      Likely more discounting to come…

Don't you hate bias/paid reviews that's every where & in everything we consume ?

i wish samsung has a smaller footprint phones like s25 in their A-series which are under 6.2"

  • +5

No expandable storage anymore, so disappointing

  • +2

Meet the new model similar to the old model !

    • +5

How does make this a bad deal though?

      • +4

People are obsessed with pressing the neg button on deals with no good reason

    • -1

Those who love to neg say something about themself…wonder what that is ?

Large storage need: video, downloading movies etc, pls consider carefully, eg seeders limit upload-speed, you've many large torrents & movies IN-complete, hence take up space.

Outlier: what happen if you're in the MIDDLE of Android-update & there's NO-storage for system to work with…can it brick your phone? https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/moto-g54-5G/Moto-G54-5g-XT2343-…

  • I am using A52s now and was waiting to upgrade to A56.
But now without SD card slot, I think pixel 9a maybe a better choice.

    • +1

Pixel 9a is not comparable. 128GB is RRP$849 and 256GB is $997. These are both under $500. It does not have a microSD card slot either.

      • Samsung a56 RRP is $799. Both without SD slot. There are comparable.
That's why I think P9a is a better choice with an extra 1 year of update etc.
I don't have to buy it now, My a52s is still going strong. Just need to wait for the best price maybe EOFY.
        I bought my A52s at around $420 so I think $499 + $30 is still too expensive.

        • +1

Samsung A56 RRP is $699. Not comparable.

The A52s 5G had an RRP of $649 in 2021. This is a discount on a model released one week ago.

@shxhshzhz: Oops I made a mistake by trusting Google search too much.
Looks like the $799 price tag refers to the 256GB version. lol
Anyway, for $100ish more, both without SD slot, P9a is definitely a much better choice.
Last year the P8a was dropped to $350 by trading in a random old 3G phone and also here, that's the kind of deal I am waiting for.

            • @AsukaST: Pixels have one more year of support than Samsung and they get updates faster than any other phone maker. That's one benefit of going on to a Pixel.

But I do miss my A53. Samsung have extra bells and whistles that people don't like, but I found some of them very useful. Bixby Routines is one thing I really miss.

            • @AsukaST: this is interesting - trade site closed?

  • Annyone know the battery cycles these samsungs are rated for, i reached out to support 3 weeks ago, but they did not reply back twice.

  • I was waiting for this to upgrade my A53, got a new s24+ direct from Samsung for $690 instead. The A series seem to be around 3yrs behind the S series performance wise

    • @ScottyDont may i ask how did you get the S24+ for $690? Is that via any promotional portals edu or gov samsung portal and did you have to add any more discount vouchers etc??

I just bought an A56 5g (256GB) for $639 via Samsung online store. I would cancel it for a S24+.

      • Hey mate, it was from the February Samsung Secret Sale
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/893813

I wrote in that one a breakdown but got it wrong, I thought non return fee was $60 but it's only $30 for a $1 item

        Breakdown was this
I got the 256GB version so it was
        $1049
        -$150 trade in
        -$100 live chat voucher
        -5% app discount
        =$759
        -$100 AMEX
        +$31 non return fee
